Pregnancy After Infertility IV

Pregnancy after infertility or fertility treatment can be a scary place, from scanxiety to unexplained bleeding to other random symptoms.

We are a supportive group of women across all stages of pregnancy who are used to being on the wrong side of the odds and still can't believe it's really happening.

Kizzle yes this is my first (2nd cycle of icsi), interesting what you and Chocolate have said about measuring ahead will definitely speak to the midwife about it. It's confusing me no end having the two dates! We want to go down to London (I'm in the north west) but coordinating cheap train tickets, cheap hotels, visits to relatives and avoiding the weekends we are booked up is hard work.

Hedgehog I agree my 20 week scan feels like ages away

kizzle · 10/02/2017 21:56

Custard hopefully you manage to squeeze in some time away before the baby's here then.
Hedgehog definitely checked my dates. I'm 15+2 & due August 2nd.

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/02/2017 22:11

Grumple. I feel the same. Then everything feels an effort. Getting up from sofa. Putting socks on. Bending over etc

How many weeks are you?

Custard. The kicks and movement are amazing and lovely and reassuring but sometimes bubs is so active it gets sore or she's always bouncing on my bladder 😂

Smurf 💓 mw and consultant both said a sweep doesn't really work till good week over due as cervix isn't ready to be opened iyswim

Rose. Glad all ok at 20w scan and we next countdown is 24/26w and you start to feel kicks and cervix a good length

Chocolate. Mine was under 3mm. It's not till think 22mm they worry so sure all is fine

I was 33w yesterday so roughly 6ish to go as won't let me go last 40w

Hedgehog. Glad headache gone and I suffered so badly last year in the sun. Have hg and was sick and hated the heat and felt crap and stayed inside - normally I love the sun 🌞🌞🌞🌞 so was hard and weird for me

Interesting about measuring ahead - I Sen to be growing a porker. Was just under 5lbs at 31w when average is 4ish

Christ knows what bubs will weight at 34w scan

GenghisKahnSchmitz · 10/02/2017 23:28

That's interesting about the measuring ahead and what they said to you Chocolate. I've consistently measured 2 weeks ahead from the 12 week scan but my doctor (who also did the fertility treatment) wouldn't change the due date.

Great news about good scans!

I hope everyone has a lovely weekend.

loopylou1984 · 11/02/2017 07:25

Just a very quick post to say the twins were born by c Dec last night around 7.30. They are small, and twin 2 is on CPAP to keep her lungs open at the moment but they are doing well.
I just need to get out of this bed and down to see them!!!! Getting desperate! Xx

Oh Sammy Huge congratulations on the safe arrival of your little girls!
I hope you can get down to see them very soon. X
How are you feeling in yourself? Did you manage to get some sleep last night? Must feel like such a whirlwind!

Chocolate fantastic news on your update! So pleased that your last scan went so well- when are you due to have your NHS one?
Also great that your cervix is standing firm and that you are being closely monitored. Your doula sounds fab- might just give that fennel tea a try!

Kizzle Congrats on your mini break win- that's fab! It will be a lovely break from reality before baby arrives. We have booked to go to the Canaries over Easter for 2 weeks for our 'babymoon' Cannot wait to get some sun and chill out.

Blondes not long left for you now! And baby is such a great weight already Shock That's great news.

JustTrixie · 11/02/2017 07:55

Congratulations Sammy! so happy to hear that your twins have arrived safely and are doing well. Hope you get down to see them very soon.

Thanks for the new thread Blueroses

Blueroses99 · 11/02/2017 07:59

Congratulations Sammy, that's wonderful news. Hope they keep growing and thriving so you can take them home soon Flowers

Welcome Kizzle. I'm very close to you too, 14+5 today EDD 7 Aug. Fuerteventura sounds amazing, well done on your win!

Blondes it's going to be a long 6 weeks if you're feeling uncomfortable now! Bubs seems very active! Have you finished work yet?

Grumpel nearly there! Baby grumps will be here before you know it!

Custard have you tried a pregnancy pillow to help you sleep? When I'm restless I hate it but on a normal night, I wrap my legs around it and it's very comfortable. I am measuring about 4 days ahead but my hospital doesn't change dates as they believe IVF dates are more accurate, like Genghis says.

Smurfy aww you've got baby smurf too comfy in there. I second Hedgehogs advice (well put). You're being induced next Wednesday?

Rosebud glad you're doing well and had a good scan (excellent cervical length!). I wish we could all shake off the anxiety though!

Chocolate good to hear your cervix is holding steady, I wouldn't worry about brief scans though, it just takes seconds to measure. Love the comments about TALL baby, are you or DH tall?!

Hedgehog so glad you've shaken off the headache.

I've just realised I'm something of a veteran, been on since the first thread almost a year ago! I'm in my new home now, it was quite disconcerting staying with my parents for so long so I'm glad to be here now. I will be on my own during the week so will take the opportunity to rest up, I'm so looking forward to it!

Thank you ladies for the warm welcomes. I feel part of the family already! & it's nice that a few of us are so close in dates.
Sammy congratulations on the birth of your twins, hope they are keeping strong in there and growing and they don't keep you waiting too long to go and see them!

Busy weekend at work for me, oh they joys.
Have a good weekend ladies.

lucieloos · 11/02/2017 08:55

Oh Sammy that's amazing news! Congratulations!!

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/02/2017 09:48

@sammy. Fab news. Congrats on safe arrival of your twins girls 💓💓

@blue. Yes gave up officially a few weeks ago but as I'm se I can do odd day of work so if agency rings for emergency stuff I will do it

I also bored. Nesting slightly and yes feel stuffed fromBub bless her

Enjoy your new home

HopefulKate1980 · 11/02/2017 10:24

Morning ladies

I've just popped on as have a spare 5 minutes (mat leave is so busy!) and have seen that Sammy you have had your precious little twins!!! CONGRATULATIONS! Such wonderful news. Wishing you the most magical time getting to know them. xx

I am 36w4 now. Baby is measuring just over 6lbs and I have had lots of cramping for a few days which I presume is everything stretching down there ready for his arrival.

I have a baby shower today but afterwards I am going to log on and read all your news. So many of us reaching our due dates!!! How did it come to this? After everything we've been through!! It's amazing isn't it? I'm not religious but I feel blessed everyday.

xx

Custardandcream · 11/02/2017 10:35

Sammy congratulations! Fingers crossed you get to see them soon x

Blueroses I'm using a normal pillow ATM, but I think my sil is lending me hers when I see her next week. Enjoy your new home

Grumpelstiltskin · 11/02/2017 12:58

Huge congratulations Sammy on the safe arrival of your little girls. You're a mum! Hope you get to spend lots of time with them today and you're feeling ok in yourself. FlowersFlowers

Chocolateandwineplease27 · 11/02/2017 15:43

Amazing news sammy!! Big congratulations - hope you're feeling OK xxx

AHedgehogCanNeverBeBuggered · 11/02/2017 17:44

Hurrah for sammy! Great news, congratulations! Flowers

kizzle I messed up my dates, I'm actually 14+4 today, definitely due 8th Aug!

blueroses we're due one day apart! Where abouts in the country are you? I'm currently in London but will be moving to Derbyshire before the birth.

Sara237 · 11/02/2017 18:10

Sammy Congratulations on your girls! Woah you've done it! Wonderful news so happy for you all. X🌻

Blueroses99 · 11/02/2017 18:24

Hedgehog I'm in SW London (anyone else around here...? I have a lot of time on my hands...) Ooh you're on the move too Grin

Kate lovely to hear from you, hope DH is still on the mend and you enjoyed your baby shower.

Sammy hope you're having lovely mummy time with your girls.

Hi to everyone else xx

kizzle · 11/02/2017 19:41

Hedgehog at least we got this sorted! Hehe... we're still pretty close though!

I'm from the West Midlands originally but live in a small town in Shropshire now.. anyone else from around my way?

MPP81 · 11/02/2017 20:38

Evening all! Sorry for the disappearing act! My appointment was a bit stressful (I'll get to that!), and then we went away as I had a lecture up in North Wales (about 3 1/2 hours from me) and we've just got back.

Sammy Huge congratulations on the birth of the twins!! How are you feeling? Thinking of you and hoping they go from strength to strength so you can get them home.

Congratulations and wlecome Kizzle. You are in good company here as we all know the feeling of extreme nervousness/googling! I'm also here after a very lucky successful first IVF, and still dont feel like its real sometimes! Fab news on winning the break! That sounds lovely and will be a nice distraction as things progress!!

Blondes I'm also getting the painful pokes now! They can be quite shocking when I'm unprepared! I'm also finding I have a numb patch on my tummy, to the left of my belly button, when my tummy goes hard, but google assures me this is just a result of the stretching, so I'm not worried about that one!

Grumpel One week to go!! I swear these last few weeks have flown by!! Hope you're feeling ok!

Custard I would also second a pregnancy pillow, preferably one of the full length ones. I love mine, to the extent that I even took it away with us this weekend. I probably looked a bit of a precious numpty lugging it into a travelodge but it was sooooo worth it!! On Christmas eve, I told DH I was going to sleep without it so we could snuggle up close just for one night, as it forms a bt of barrier between us usually, and after half an hour I was apologising and dragging it back into bed!

Ah Smurfy I bet time seems to be passing extra slowly right now. It wont be long though! Hope you're doing ok!

Rosebud Glad to hear you're well and that the 20 week scan was good! Also great news about your cervix! You'll be at that next milestone before you know it!

Chocolate Fab news about your scan and cervix also! My sister-in-law is a doula, which you'd think would be quite handy, but I dont want to feel like I'm imposing so I've never asked her anything even though she's told me multiple times to give her a yell if I want to. Interesting about the fennel tea. You'll have to let us know how it goes!

Hedgehog Haha, fantastic news on the alleviation of your headaches!! Glad to be of help!

Blueroses Congrats on moving into your new home! We stayed with my grandfather while waiting for ours, and while its obviously lovely to have people who are willing to have you, its very strange after being in your own home, isnt it! I bet you're thrilled to be in. I hope you're getting plenty of rest!

Kate Wont be long for you now either! Exciting!

Waves to anyone I've missed!!

AFM... Well, my appointment went ok, I suppose. I've been given a blood glucose monitor and metformin. I have to take two tablets a day and test my blood 4 times a day, to see how my levels are doing. Unfortunately, they havent come down at all since Thursday, despite meds and some massive dietary changes (which have led to me already losing weight - silver lining!) so I have to phone Monday to update them so they can tell me if I need to up my medication. If there's no change by the time I reach the maximum dose, then it will be insulin injections instead, which I'm really hoping to avoid. I have to see: the diabetes midwife and the diabetes nurse once a week for the time being, and the diabetes doctor and diabetes consultant as and when required, as well as my ordinary midwife. I have a scan on Thursday this coming week, and then scans every other week to keep an eye on babys growth. If we can get my levels under control, they will let me go as long as possible but wont go over 39 weeks, but if my levels keep being erratic or baby gets too big they will induce earlier, so it all just depends on how my blood looks now. They are looking after us well though, and its reassuring that they are keeping such a close eye on baby. Obviously thats the most important thing right now, but as a side issue, my levels were so high at the GTT that they suspect I was already diabetic before becoming pregnant and that the pregnancy has exacerbated this, though they seemed quite incredulous when I told them I felt perfectly fine and hadnt had any symptoms or anything. There's no way to know now anyway til afterwards, so I'l have the test again six weeks after baby arrives and go from there. Its all a bit much to take in, and all I'm concerned with right now is getting my son here safe and sound, and I'll worry about me afterwards. Trying to stay positive, but I'll keep you all posted!!

Grumpelstiltskin · 11/02/2017 22:02

Blueroses I'm SW London too- and of course currently hanging around aimlessly on mat leave! Wink PM me if you like.

MPP it sure does feel like these last few weeks have flown actually. So different to the beginning! Very odd when now asked due date to be able to say 'this Friday'!
It sounds like you have such a lot to get your head around and I hope your levels go down without you needing insulin but it does sound like they're taking good and careful care of you and the baby at least. Hopefully that's a tiny bit reassuring. Flowers for you.

GenghisKahnSchmitz · 11/02/2017 22:55

That's mad that they thought you already had diabetes MPP! Good luck with everything - it sounds like loads to do! I hope the medication does work and our levels go down.

Congratulations Sammy - wonderful news, and I hope you're doing well, and enjoying your time with your babies xx

I hope you enjoyed your baby shower Kate! I think I'll still be pinching myself even after the birth - it just seems to good to be true!

Kizzle I saw your other thread about flying - I've flown long haul into my third trimester and was fine despite also having a few doomsayers' opinions. Enjoy your break!

In non-baby news, we finally got a moving date, so I'll be 37 weeks..not really looking forward to the move but am looking forward to being in! We've only been waiting for this since I was 12 weeks pregnant..

Hello to everyone!

Zenzie · 12/02/2017 09:45

Hello all! I've been missing for absolutely ages but have still been lurking and following everyone's news.

Sammy, congratulations! I hope the twins are doing well. What a wonderful thing. Can't wait to hear their names, if you'd like to share them.

Fingers crossed to everyone due soon (or due last week!). On phone so can't do many personals, sorry.

Like Hopeful Kate I'm 36 weeks and I'm feeling it! C section is planned for a fortnight tomorrow (eek) and I just finished work. Lots of cramping and some pain, so I packed a hospital bag just in case. You never know.

lucieloos · 12/02/2017 16:07

Mpp, that's crazy that they think you may have had diabetes already. I hope they manage to get everything under control without the need for insulin. Which maternity pillow do you have? I've been looking but so many out there!
