I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Ruby - you're amazing. I can barely move when nauseous let alone work and vomit together.

I made it 2 and a half weeks without vomiting and then lost dinner all spectacularly tonight when I thought I could finish my burger. Hard to remember limits when trying to stretch my stomach again. Probably didnt help that I had my ondansetron pill 2hrs later than I should've.

Hope everyone is having a vomit free weekend.

LucindaE · 19/03/2017 09:42

Oh dear, Melleebacca - much sympathy. The stomach really shrinks, and when one thinks how it does with a stomach bug of just a few days' duration, it makes sense.
RubyReins You are very brave tottering into court. Do the judges know that you have been sentenced to Hyperemesis Grin? Pomegranate juice - that's fascinating, shades of Persephone; I hope it didn't reappear.

Haich Lovely scan pic, both of mine have been wriggly babies too- scams always takes ages! But have always taken it as a reassuring sign.

Lucinda I made it to Newcastle (and back) safely thank you. Although it was a very long drive and my daughter was awake for most of it. I had to sing a lot of nursery rhymes, my voice is a little husky as a result this morning! It's 5 hours to Newcastle from here, so trying to do it at daughters bed time seemed the best plan- be only problem being she decided not to sleep and has thrown her sleep pattern way off. But I had a really lovely time seeing my friends and sickness was pretty manageable thankfully. How was your weekend?

Hi to everyone else- I hope you have all had good weekends. Xx

LucindaE · 20/03/2017 09:18

IAmSerious I am so glad you had a nice time in Newcastle. Fancy managing to sing and drive - and you are under the weather? I take my hat off to you.
One of those dropping, breaking and putting my foot in it sort of days for me on Saturday; but I shouldn't whine - I don't have Hyperemesis! How is DD?

Hi everyone. Sorry for radio silence, I've just been battling on. Unfortunately had my second admission yesterday as I couldn't get my ketones down at home. Annoying that it was a Sunday as I had to go to a and e rather than straight to the hyperemesis unit. I've got a temperature and possible UTI too. Although that wasn't clear cut enough to treat apparently. They've called me in for a scan today. I hope everything's alright.
Hope everyone's doing as well as can be expected.

LucindaE · 20/03/2017 13:07

Fluteytootey Sorry to hear that - I hope it's your last admission for this. Have they changed your meds? I'm surprised they couldn't diagnose the UTI there and then. Much sympathy.

Hi Flooty I hope you are doing ok, sorrybto hear you are not well. Sending positive vibes.

Lucinda, DD is doing ok thank you. We have another hospital appointment for her tomorrow so we will see what's said. She's been extra cuddly with being a bit under the weather so I'm getting lots of lovely squishy hugs. She's also finding my jokes hilarious at the moment (the only person on the planet who does!) so I'm getting good giggles. All helps to make it easier.
Sorry to hear of tricky Saturday, there do seem to be days where at all goes goes wrong. Fingers crossed for a smoother week for you. Xxx

littlepooch · 21/03/2017 17:28

Wow I am in awe of how much some of you are suffering and how you keep going. Hats off to you.

I went back to work today, I was supposed to go back yesterday but just couldn't I was sick and weak and my mum dropped my DD to nursery and made me go to bed. I am working from home as I just cannot do the commute and just doing what I can. I think they would like me to do small amounts rather than being signed off completely. I managed to do some work this morning but then had to go back to bed as I think weirdly the laptop was making me feel even more sick and headachy. I'm seeing the midwife and consultant tomorrow for my 16 week check up, I will mention it to them I guess but I don't suppose there is much she can do, but good for her to know.

Thinking of everyone on this thread even if I am not able to post much.

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/03/2017 17:40

Sorry to hear some of you are back in hospital /urine infection

Surviving here tho sick sun and mon

And whole legs are now tree trunks. Literally same size up and down :(

Put on 2stone in 2w. Mw said just fluid and will go down once bubs is here. Hope so

Can only waddle in elastic skirts and slippers as too fat /swollen for maternity leggings and normal shoes

LucindaE · 21/03/2017 20:10

Blondes My goodness, you poor thing. That sounds so awful. Sad
I am sure the swelling will go down when you give birth, but its dreadful your legs are suffering so.
littlepooch Poor old you, too. I am so glad you aren't trying to do that commute. Is it worth getting a note from the dr saying that you are too ill to work more than a small amount each day just to cover yourself?
I am glad your mother made you go to bed.
Fluteytootey How are things today?
IAmSerious It is so sweet when they love your silly jokes, isn't it? My DD was the same - doesn't think I am a great wit now, though, sadly...
It has been so quiet here after the last few days, after being frenetic for some weeks.Confused

OP posts:
IAmSeriousAndDontCallMeShirley · 22/03/2017 07:31

Little don't over do it, tempting as it is, as it will only push you back. If you need to be off work then you should be. I found even on reduced hours the stress of not doing 'all of my job' added to my problems. I didn't go back until 18 weeks I think.

Blondes Very sorry to hear of the ever expanding legs and Ricky few days. We need this baby here sharpish to get you back to yourself!

Lucinda Yes, I'm sure it won't last, but for now I shall enjoy being bee favourite comedian.

It has been very quiet on here this week. I do hope everyone is ok.

Quick update on my daughter- we got told yesterday that she will need surgery on 3rd of May. I'm gutted for her, we had been really enjoying our time away from hospital. It's also cutting things rather fine for the arrival of this one! That was the week they were planning on inducing me, so will need to speak to my consultant about moving it a week back. I will want to be there for my daughter, and a new baby will make that very hard.

Hi to everyone. Xxx

littlepooch · 22/03/2017 09:42

Morning all.

I need some support or at the least for you to calm me down and give me some advice.

I've had to call in sick today as I'm feeling terrible. I can't get a doctors appointment today so can't get a sick note. But am I right that pregnancy related illness can't count against you? I'm feeling very low and anxious that work are going to be cross. I feel like there are other women in my team who are sailing through without having taken a single day off and there's me, struggling and constantly needing time off.

MotherofPearl · 22/03/2017 10:33

LittlePooch, firstly, try not to feel guilty, hard though it is. Your health - and your baby's - are both much more important than work. Try to ignore those annoying lucky women who sail through with no problems. HG is an incredibly debilitating illness. You need to cut yourself some slack.
In practical terms, my understanding is that you only need a doctor's note after being off for 5 consecutive days. Less time than that and afaik you can self-certify. If you are going to be off for long periods (which is the reality with HG) then it's best to get your GP to sign you off for 2 weeks at a time. Mine then extended by 2 weeks each time via a phone consultation to save me going in. Could you set up something like that? Sorry you're going through this horror. Flowers

IAmSeriousAndDontCallMeShirley · 22/03/2017 13:28

Hi Little sorry to hear you are feeling so poorly.
As the lovely MoP says, please try not to feel bad. You can't help it and you really do need the time off. Sadly we are not one of those lucky women who sail through and that's that.

You can indeed self cert for 5 consecutive days or fewer, however I always got my GP to back date my sick notes so that I had a record that my sickness was pregnancy related.

As for HR issues, yes it's true the pregnancy related sickness doesn't count towards your Bradford score. They also can't use it to trigger sickness management policies. So don't worry, you really are quite well protected.

I hope you manage to get some rest today and feel brighter. It's really a rotten thing this HG- be kind to yourself. X

LucindaE · 22/03/2017 13:39

IAmSerious All luck with the surgery. That seems a good plan, to defer the induction, if you are not suffering too badly. I do hope the surgery will be very helpful for your DD. It is a precious time when they think you are a genius - you are right to enjoy it to the full.
littlepooch You've had great advice already from IAmSerious and MotherofPearl but i just wanted to add that I so agree that it is not your fault, and you mustn't blame yourself, and you mustn't push yourself too hard or you will only get worse. If those other women suffered from this and you were sailing through a healthy pregnancy, they would be taking time off like anything.

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 23/03/2017 07:11

Shirley hope surgery goes well

And yes pregnancy sickness can't be used against you as sickness

Any chance the doc can do a telephone app and you ask for sick note and get someone /uou collect from surgery

Melleebacca · 23/03/2017 07:20

Anyone had issues with low blood pressure while pregnant?

Mine is low normally, but drops lower when I'm sick/pregnant. It's 85/52 at rest at the moment, and the doctor is worried about organ function. I'm still in bed most days so I'm not fainting or anything.

Littlepooch - I was off till 24w with my first, probably could've pushed and gone back to work earlier, but tiredness and stress brings on the HG.

Waves to everyone, and expecting a baby announcement any day now Blondes - good luck!

Lemondrop09 · 23/03/2017 10:58

Anyone here vomited blood? I had a bad day yesterday and threw up quite a bit of bloody last night. It was a bit alarming

LucindaE · 23/03/2017 11:49

Mellebacca I have lowish blood pressure normally, and mine went down to 82/51 once, but nobody has ever theatened me with organ failure - so I'd love to be able to advise, but I didn't know there was a connection until it dropped even lower. I did find it seemed to pick up a bit after drinking Lucoazade or full sugar coke. I hope someone else can give the best advice.
Lemondrop If there was a lot of it, it's always worth having it checked, but generally it is from the throat from excessive retching.

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 23/03/2017 18:44

NO baby yet

Yes been sick with blood but was after drinking oj to make bubs move for 23 repeated scan

Was very sick with it and think was just sore throat blood iyswim

Fine the next day

But always weight checking out if worried

LucindaE · 23/03/2017 20:34

Blondes Cheering you on...
Lemondrop I meant to add- if the blood is brown rather than red, they do treat that as an emergency...

OP posts:
Lemondrop09 · 24/03/2017 12:33

Thanks Lucinda. It was mostly brown but the GP didn't seem to bothered Confused Just been told to keep an eye on it

CastleFeck · 24/03/2017 12:36

Just calling by to say Hi,

Sorry for those suffering, wishing you better times asap.

Blondes, you're so close now! Good luck.

I'm 36wks now, plodding on.

LucindaE · 24/03/2017 12:40

Lemondrop, Goodness, I am a bit surprised that the GP didn't at least wish to give you a check up. Of course, I am not medically trained, and I don't want to spread alarm and despondency, and it's good the GP wasn't anxious, but the last person who vomited brown blood on here was taken to hospital by ambulance with siren wailing, so do keep an eye on it - not as if your exactly likely to ignore it. I hope you haven't had it again?

OP posts:
LucindaE · 24/03/2017 12:44

Castlefeck Cross posted. Plodding on is literally the case, at that stage. How do you feel, or dare I ask? Are things still not too bad?
