I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

I increased my odansetron on advice from the GP and managed to get through a whole day yesterday without vomiting! So no more blood yet.... will certainly be keeping an eye on it though.

Btw, my EDD is 30 September Smile

Melleebacca · 24/03/2017 16:58

Lemon drop - well done! What's your current ondansetron intake? I take an 8mg tablet twice a day, but can max out at 3 times a day. At 15w, I started having non vomiting days, but I still get really bad if I'm late with taking my tablets.

Lemondrop09 · 24/03/2017 17:10

I'm on 4mg up to 4x a day. Also on promethazine 4x a day. I've been trying to cut down, which I thought was working then suddenly had a really bad day. I know it's supposed to be safe, but I still worry. So I guess I need them a while longer. Tend to get by on 2 a day, 3 on a bad day.

Melleebacca · 24/03/2017 17:28

Lemondrop - try not to cut down until you've had a good few non-vomiting weeks.
In my first pregnancy, I was a bit more erratic with my meds because we weren't sure of the risks and it meant I was sicker for longer than this time. I plan to wean myself down to one ondansetron a day after 20w, and will probably be on one a day until well into the 3rd trimester (went to 34w last time)

LucindaE · 24/03/2017 18:46

Lemondrop09 I've added you to the list.
Melleebacca I hope you are doing OK?

Thanks Lucinda

Yes, I expect you're right Mellee. I've taken 2 today but not feeling good this evening, so just taken my third. Maybe I should be more consistent - I had just thought/hoped it was getting better. Also I'm sure it's cobtributing to my terrible constipation which is a big factor in me wanting to avoid taking too much.

Melleebacca · 24/03/2017 20:00

Lemondrop - definitely the ondansetron causing the constipation. I'm on 2 x laxol tablets a day to keep me "regular". You can also try lactulose. But get on top of the constipation sooner rather than later.

When I was pushing out my DD, I do recall saying it was a lot easier than being constipated. 😂

LucindaE · 25/03/2017 09:38

Melleebacca Lol! (wink). I see you never lose your sense of humour, even in the delivery room...
Lemondrop09 There are also those jelly suppositories, which many swear by, but they won't sell them to you if pregnant, though they use them in hospitals for pregnant woman, so you have to send anyone else for them.

WAddles in. STill not over the drawbridge yet ......

Luckily no one else too near me in dates. I would be very pissed off if hit overtaken now

My over 40's/ivf group have all had their babies early !!! I am last :(

I was due first on 30/3. Then someone on 31/3 and two think 4:5 April and all went into labour naturally and are mummies and I'm not !! 😡😢

Never cut down on medication. Makes you ill. And then tablets need to veg back into system again ....,,

Lemondrop09 · 25/03/2017 14:38

I've been taking kactulose intermittently, will make an effort to take it regularly and drink more water. I keep thinking that after all this, labour has got to be easier! I sat on the loo at 3.30am crying with constipation a few weeks back when I was so dehydrated they couldn't get blood out of me (but also wouldn't put me on a drip!). Also they'll only let you labour so long before intervention, where as HG was go on for months. I'm seriously less concerned about labour now and just happy that it'll be in end of pregnancy lol!

CastleFeck · 25/03/2017 16:43

Thanks Lucinda. This is the best I've felt all pregnancy. I stopped the sickness meds 2 weeks ago and apart from v v mild occasional nausea I'm sickness free. The heavily pregnant bit is a walk in the park compared to HG.

Blondes awh sorry you're the last in your group, you are a mummy already you just haven't got to change nappies yet!

Melleebacca · 25/03/2017 17:21

Lemondrop - I took lactulose if nothing had happened for more than 2 days, any longer time and it was just too painful. Also licorice helps the constipation, and is the only sweet thing I can manage (after 14w only tho). I had the same mindset as you last time, labour pains only lasted 12hrs, and pushed for 20mins. Was much easier (esp with meds) than being sick for months.

Blondes - she's just picking her own date. She won't be much longer. Then you can dance over the drawbridge.

Castlefeck - glad to hear you're surviving without meds. Keep resting.

Lucinda - in my own mind, I was hilarious during labour. Probably a bit too giddy that it was going to be over. Kept telling the doctors who stitched me up that I was planning on watching greys anatomy that day, not planning to be on it. Gas & Air makes me a hoot! 😂

HaichM · 25/03/2017 20:22

Hi everyone

Blondes: I hope you're not waiting too much longer

Mellee: I would have laughed at that.

Lemon: I need to be more regular with the lactulose as well so I know if I should try something else. I've weaned down 1x ondansetron but constipation wise nothing has improved.

Me: nausea is generally only mild now but headaches and vertigo still main issues. Have started my phased return so we'll see how that goes. Get my results next week about vitamin deficiences as still really tired a lot. Appetite has been quite good the last few days and I swear baby is bigger than the banana Mumsnet weekly emails says it should be. Very active which is reassuring. Currently suffering from toothache, which isn't helping, especially as I have anxiety issues with the dentist on a good day. Hoping it's just wisdom tooth pain and nothing more serious. We're starting our application for a mortgage next week (had one agreed in principle) so fingers crossed.

Take care everyone. Night night

LucindaE · 26/03/2017 12:31

Blondes Oh no, about being last on your ivf group list! I hope it's not too long.
Lemondrop09 I am dismayed that they wouldn't put you on a drip when you had collapsed veins - why was this - was it impossible? Yet surely this happens often, with severe dehydration?
Melleebacca I think that is funny too. Gas and air is clearly the thing.I had unfortunately, no idea that you couldn't eat/drink sweet things - you must have found my list of suggestions annoying - only crisps, chips and Blondes cuppa soup would be possible, and ice cubes...Soda bread, I remember.
HaichM Aagh! Sad headaches, vertigo, and toothache? That is a highly unpleasant combination. Good luck with the mortgage.
I hope everyone is coping, and things are looking up for IAmSerious and others...

Bubs Is starting the eviction process :)

24hr pessery and now play the waiting game

Melleebacca · 26/03/2017 18:50

Blondes - good luck! Hope it's cruisey sailing all the way to the castle, and that the sickness evaporates immediately.

Lucinda - I have a rampant sweet tooth, but from DDs pregnancy, I found sweet things burn too much on the way back up, so this time around I have unwilling tackled the latest diet craze and quit sugar. Had a hot chocolate with marshmallows and the sugar burned on the way down which was awful. Frozen coke did help at the beginning though. Diet is mostly chips, crisps and crackers at the moment. Only 21w to go!

LucindaE · 26/03/2017 19:16

Blondes Ooh, exciting. FlowersStarGrinBest of luck. I am out of touch with the new methods - 24 hour pessary?
Melleebacca I am glad the frozen coke helped back then. Crisps and chips indeed...What would one do without them?

MotherofPearl · 26/03/2017 19:27

Ooooh, good luck Blondes. I had DD2 just a few hours after the pessary induction, very short labour. Hoping you have the same!

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/03/2017 21:03

I say pessery but it's more a tiny bit of paper

Stuck high in cervix. Bloody hurt. That stays for 24hrs. Then removed and cervix checked

Then 6hr one. Possibly that twice. Then try and break waters. If that's managed then can have a drip

Hopefully labour will start then and contractions

Going into labour naturally is much nicer !!!!

Lemondrop09 · 26/03/2017 21:34

Lucinda, it seemed nobody wanted to put me on a drip as somehow I've never had ketones in my urine. Despite being obviously very dehydrated in other ways, without ketones I wasn't considered "dehydrated enough" Hmm I think the problem with extraction was that my blood had become very thick?

Ended having all my blood taken at my 12 week scan as the midwife simply couldn't extract what they needed at by booking appointment.

Thankfully since being on the odansetron (which I really had to stamp my feet at the GP to get) I've been able to keep fluid down and now far more hydrated.

Lemondrop09 · 26/03/2017 21:35

I'm really jealous of everyone at the top of the list who will have their babies soon lol! I'd like to go to sleep for the next six months and just skip that part. So exciting that some of you will have your babies soon (and be HG free as an added bonus!) Grin

Melleebacca · 26/03/2017 22:18

Blondes - that sounds like an awfully drawn out process. Fingers crossed bubba gets the hint.

Lemondrop - I told hubby the only way I could ever consider the possibility of more children is if I got put in a coma for the whole pregnancy.
Ketones are fickle things. I don't get them unless I keep nothing down for 24hrs. So have only had them occasionally this pregnancy, but still had chapped, peeling lips and other dehydration signs.

Lemondrop09 · 26/03/2017 22:28

I can relate. The way I'm feeling right now, this baby is going to be an only child..... Maybe I'll change my mind in a few years, but I definitely in no rush to do this again.

Anyone find HG makes you more anxious? I'm so worried about something going wrong, obviously because that would be awful anyway - but also because a) I've been through so much and b) I don't want to go through it again, makes me even more scared of something going wrong. I know it's silly but I just want to skip to the part where my baby is here safely and I feel better.

Melleebacca · 26/03/2017 23:15

Lemondrop - cant help you there. My anxiety drops while I'm sick, because I know baby is taking EVERYTHING, and I worry more about what will be left of me.

Also, DD was going to be an only child, but somehow I came to the conclusion that I could put myself through it again. But I have a lot more understanding for only child and also couples who choose not to have kids. HG pregnancy is the worst.

IAmSeriousAndDontCallMeShirley · 27/03/2017 07:48

Good morning all, and how exciting to see that Blondes is hopefully about to start her merry skip over that drawbridge.

My vomiting has returned (32 weeks), but at nowhere near the levels of those awful early weeks. I feel like what I'm experiencing now is more inline with morning sickness than HG. I'm very queasy 1st thing and throw up bile until I manage to eat. Then just have the odd ransom vom later in the day. Fun fun, but very pleased it's not like it used to be!

Despite the sickness I had a lovely weekend. We took DD out to lots of fun places, planning to cram in lots of nice things before the surgery date- mostly to keep my mind off it.

Waving to everyone and hoping for good weeks all around. Xx
