I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Thanks for the sympathy everyone - I gave up at work today and came home. I'm going to blame the WC vaccine for making me feel extra shit.
Here's hoping that tomorrow is better.

Shirley sorry to hear about the work situation - doesn't help really, does it. Re: the can't be discriminated against thing, I believe this also means that you should be allowed to interview before you commence mat leave - and that they can inform you if you were successful after interviewing other candidates. Worth raising if you want to try and cling on to a job there?

Mellee floor picnics are one of my favourite memories of childhood meals - feel no fear :)

Lucinda My turn to offer you sympathy, I hope the last of your migraine clears ASAP, migraines are awful. Flowers

MotherofPearl · 15/03/2017 19:25

Shirley, thanks. Grin I'm glad to feel I was any help. The worst thing for HG is stress and lack of sleep, so your current circumstances must be really exacerbating things. Still, 30 weeks is great progress!
Someone was asking about omperazole for the reflux and acid? I used rantidine myself (as Lucinda said, it helped with my dreaded post-work kitchen sink acid vomits!) but lots of HG sufferers find omperazole even better. Strangely DD2 has had dreadful ongoing reflux (neither of my other 2 DC suffered from it) and is now on omperazole for it. It's certainly improved things for her!
Ruby, because my presence on here has been rather sporadic, I think I missed that you were back and pg again! I remember you from last time, and your stoicism (and humour!).
Big waves to everyone, especially Lucinda (sorry to hear that you've had one of your nasty migraines) and Blondes, who is just approaching the finish line! I trust you still have your trusty Best Bladder badge from earlier on?!

IAmSeriousAndDontCallMeShirley · 15/03/2017 20:21

Thanks all for the lovely supportive messages. Just on my way home now after a mammoth day.
My plan is to go straight to be when I get in. Bliss. Xx

hallypie · 15/03/2017 20:49

Hi everyone,

I'm currently 9 weeks pregnant with DC2 due October . I had hyperemesis in my first pregnancy controlled with hospital visits for iv fluids and cyclizine. When I found out I was pregnant this time my doctor gave me a whole load of Cyclizine to try get on top of the sickness in the hope of avoiding getting to the point of needing to go to hospital and being so unwell this time round. I was just looking to see if anyone has been struggling with taking the medication and how they got round this? I was fine for a few weeks but literally cannot physically take the tablet without it making me gag and then be sick. I know i'm at the hardest few weeks and need to just struggle through, my hyperemesis does trail off at 12 weeks, it never goes until baby is out but the constant 24/7 nausea gets better but I just didn't imagine the antisickness tablets would be a stuggle to take. I'd really appreciate any words of wisdom :)Thank You

fourcorneredcircle · 15/03/2017 21:28

Hey Hally, welcome to the club nobody wants to join... pull up a bucket.

Re: gagging on cyclazine. Yeah, tastes really bad and the slightest taste of it made me gag too. In the early weeks I used to have a Cornish wafer by the bed which I'd put half of in my mouth about 6am when husband got up and allow to go mushy. I'd then slip the pill in to the biscuit mush and swallow. Worked for me - I'd often fall back to sleep without throwing up once I got up at 11 it often went tits up mind at least I'd had one dose and had a fighting chance of getting some liquid down later.

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/03/2017 21:35

Daffodil. Thank you. Legs and ankles so sore but nothing I can do. Have them raised and also Soak in cold water

Roll on drawbridge. I would almost say edema is worse then hg ......

Glad dd doing more days at nursery. That will help

Lucinda. Hope headache /Migraine has gone now

Mother. Yes I can still say proudly that I haven't pissed myself yet 😂😂😂😂

😇😇😇😇😇😇😇😇😇

Tho came close a few times when trying to get up Stairs with ankles that don't bend .... but thankfully still clutching my badge proudly 😍😍

Hally. Welcome - I'm
On cyczline and I space them out 3 times a day

I find if I take the first one when I wake up for a wee 3:4:5am then go back to sleep it really helps. Then have one at 1pm and also 9pm

Always take them even if feel better

I have some spare if anyone ever needs any as my gp gave me a double prescription

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/03/2017 21:36

And agree the taste is rank so always wash down with water before taste hits my throat

MotherofPearl · 15/03/2017 22:24

Hally, sorry to hear you're suffering badly. I'm not sure about different forms of cyclizine, but some of the other meds used to treat HG come in 'melt' form. You can get Ondansetron melts (which dissolve quickly on the tongue, no water drinking needed), and prochloperazine (e.g. Buccastem) comes in a tablet which you dissolve on your gum line. Might one of these help?
Shirley, hope you're getting some lovely rest.
Blondes, the real test will be if you can hang onto your medal after baby is out! Pelvic floor always takes a beating, ime!

hallypie · 16/03/2017 09:55

Thank you so much for your suggestions. I'm going to try hiding it in some food and then if that doesn't work think it's back to the GP for one of the melt options. I think I've tried every type of squash asda have to offer with it they all taste so gross and not wanting to resort to fizzy.

It's so hard isn't it like I feel I should be the happiest person in the world but at the same time I've never been so ill in all my life it's so emotional!

Heartburn247 · 16/03/2017 11:21

Hallypie - Cyclizine are not coated but Ondansetron is - such a difference not having that bitter taste as soon as you put them in your mouth. I don't have a solution different to what the others have suggested. You poor thing :-(
Hang on-what about swallowing with a mouthful of jelly? Or ice cream?

LucindaE · 16/03/2017 13:29

hallypie Welcome. The name 'halley' rings a bell from before, but I don't know if you were on here, and it was spelt with an 'e' . As you are a veteran, I am sure you don't need advice from me about flat coke and the juice and fruit of tinned fruit, etc, or investing in some kesostix to check for dehydration. I am glad it gets a lot better for you as early as 12 weeks. You've had great advice about taking the cyclizine with a sweetner.
Thank you everyone for kind wishes over migraine.
Blondes Here's some StarStarStarStarStarStar for the Non Pee-ing When Puking Award. Sorry to hear of legs;if they delay your getting upstairs like that, maybe you'll need OH to carry you up!
fourcorneredcircle Sorry you had bad side effects from the innoculation. I hope today is better. You are still battling into work - very brave.
Daffodil397 Mother Hen says don't overdo it in case the sickness returns, but I am so glad you feel well enough to go back to work.
That is so funny about drinking a can of beer - albeit non alcoholic!
I'm not suprised you were defensive - who wouldn't be when you can be sure some people seeing that would get completely the wrong idea and say, 'That's why she was so ill - swilling beer on the sly!'
IAmSerious I hope you had a really good rest. Much needed.
Heartburn Good advice.
MotherofPearl Always lovely to hear from you with great advice as ever.
Apologies if I've overlooked anyone/ cross posted. That Pink Castle in the clouds is one day nearer....

hallypie · 16/03/2017 14:03

LucindaE- no not been here before under this name so all advice welcome :)
I've tried taking Cyclizine with diet coke today as i just couldn't swallow anything with food. Eventually managed to take it but dreading next dose. Midwife has given me prescription for kesostix so can at least keep an eye on dehydration.

I didn't realise Odansetron were coated i think i might have to go and ask for this instead its going to just be that little bit easier to take. Thanks guys really appreciate the support :)

Melleebacca · 16/03/2017 17:23

Hally - I'm on ondansetron. It does dissolve in the mouth, but my ones are raspberry flavored, so I knock them back really quickly with water. I love raspberries normally, but now if I'm a little too slow, it comes right back up.

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/03/2017 18:13

I had a little treat today

Bump painting

IAmSeriousAndDontCallMeShirley · 16/03/2017 18:35

Blondes your bump is beautiful! A perfect baby bump you lucky thing.
I think I just resemble a hippo....

Thanks all, got to bed at about 11 only to be woken at 2 by my daughter having been sick everywhere. It took and hour to clean up and resettle her. Then over slept as a result! Doh! So a mad dash to work.

On a positive note I have a day at home with my daughter tomorrow so a small lie in when compared to my work days. Then off up to Newcastle to see a good friend (going to drive up at my daughters bed time and hope she sleeps...) for the weekend.

Waving to everyone. Xx

littlepooch · 16/03/2017 19:22

Hello all just checking in to see how everyone is doing. I had a couple of better days, but maybe I overdid it as bam today now I feel awful again. My sick note runs out so will be due back on Monday and I'm really nervous. I feel like I should try to see how I get on but really I just want to hide away at home.

blondes I love your bump painting - such a fun idea and something to look back on!

LucindaE · 16/03/2017 19:34

Blondes I so agree with others - a lovely bump to decorate. Very artistic work.
Melleebacca Oh dear, that sounds awful; aritificial fruit flavours to medicine can be awful. I think the blackcurrent taste of that hydrating powder is awful, what's it calle, Diarelite or some such thing...
IAmSerious Poor you and DD. I hope drive to Newcastle goes OK - is it a long one? You sound very active.
Hallypie Ah, in that case, some like diet coke, others say full sugar helps the nausea better, left to go flat, and the tinned peaches and pears and the juice, and sips of chocolate milkshake (maybe soya), ice lollies, ice cubes, soda water, Dr Pepper, Elderflower water, cheap ice cream and jelly and nibbles of crisps, and cuppa soup, and slices of melon or melon pulverised and frozen into cubes and cuppa soup are some of the things sufferers find they can bear. It is worthwhile to get keostix just in case things take a serious turn for the worse, but lets hope not.

OP posts:
LucindaE · 16/03/2017 19:36

littlepooch Cross posted. Don't rush back if you feel the fatigue will make you worse. Those good days are almost always a sign of more to come, but don't make yourself have a relapse. Fatigue makes this much worse, and the exhaustion of commuting, etc, can be really too much.

OP posts:
Lapin387 · 16/03/2017 19:50

Briefly delurking: re. cyclizine: I find having a mouthful of water first, holding it and quickly floating the tablet on top and swallowing can often mean it doesn't touch my mouth/tongue at all so I don't taste it/ gag on it.

HaichM · 16/03/2017 19:58

Hally: I take ondansetron with a biscuit. I'm someone who struggles to take tablets anyway, so the chew a bit of biscuit, pop in tablet and chew a bit more before swallowing works for me. Manage both my anti-sickness and anti-vertigo that way. Mine don't have a flavouring to them though. Mellee, I'm not sure i would have coped if they did.

Littlepooch: I can say I have similar worries and I've been off for weeks and weeks. I get so tired by the end of the day and week but I'm going back once this sicknote runs out. I put it off before and hid at home as you say as didn't want to rush back and relapse.

20 week scan went all clear, though baby would not stop moving at all so picture is blurry and it took a long time. DH felt it kick for first time last night too so he's really chuffed and I finally have a bit of a bump so I am too. Had bloods taken to test for deficiencies so we'll see. Mental health midwife thinks I'm being too hard on myself and expecting too much, which I probably am but it was nice to hear that someone thinks I'm doing what I should be and doing it as well as I can. Had a nice time with DS today, even though really tired, and he's impressed me with how much reading he's done for me and how well. We've done our chores and cuddled with half a film.

If I can get to this point when it doesn't seem that long ago I was feeling really bleak about the whole thing and really struggling, then I hope it can help others keep going.

Best non-nauseous wishes to everyone. Blondes: love the bump painting and the idea of it

Melleebacca · 16/03/2017 21:44

Haich - think different brands of ondansetron have different tastes. My dads ones for chemo have no flavour. Lucky him.

Blondes - lovely bump painting. Really special day for you. Almost down to counting the days. Eeeee!

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/03/2017 07:49

@shirley - trust me mine isn't a perfect bump - it's all
In the positioning. Take my hands away and flops ☺️

Poor dd. Hope feeling better and safe drive tonight

@pooch. Can you get another sick note?

The only way I managed to work through preg is coz I work nights and felt ok ish late eve but from 5/6am be incred queasy and often would literally leave a clients home and throw up in a trusty coop bag in my car sitting on their drive - and on way home

Get to bed 7am ish and then sleep /lay quiet and still to 1-2pm to be able to cope

If I did a day job I would have been signed off

@haich. Lovely scan
Pic and yah for hubby feeling baby kick.

@mell. Thanks and yes 13days or less. Whoop x

If anyone wants a bump pic let me know your area and my lady will ask in her group who is local to you and give contact details

It's a lovely memory and didn't want a naked pic of bump and me so a good compromise 💓👶🏼💓

LucindaE · 17/03/2017 16:41

Blondes You still deserved a medal for making it in to work to vomit on the way back.
HaichM ...And that's a lovely scan picture. The profile seems to be very clear - I do love those little noses. Mother Hen entirely seconds your midwife - you ARE doing as much as you can. Getting through this is very hard.
Lapin and everyone - good advice.
Unpleasant weather out there anyway, for those stuck in bed/on the couch. The sort of weather where you see the daffodils and some sunshine, and then a cold wind/shower of ran hits you in the face, and you wish you'd put on more clothing...
Apologies for those rudely overlooked.

Hi MOP! Thanks! Bit of a surprise...

Yep still battling in court. About to wade through a folder of papers. I know how to do Saturday nights. I have my trusty bucket handy. Drank some pomegranate juice earlier so I fully expect a dramatic Game of Thrones esque expulsion when next the urge takes hold...
