I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

LightTripper Silly me, I forgot to type in that part of my message 'Good luck for Friday' and you really deserve an easy time. Exciting.
fourcorneredcircle I hope all goes well at the GTI test. I don't like to join you in saying 8.30, but you have insider knowledge on exactly how you feel if deprived of a snack. Sad
MardbyBum Nice to hear from you again. I am glad that Ondansetron is helping, but Mother Hen says you don't really sound well enough to rush back. That would be severe pregnancy sickness by most standards, even with Ondansetron, so...I suppose if you work on a ward, it is impossible to have a staggered return or part time or easy duties? I hope someone else can advise you about a UTI without symptoms. I am prone to cystitis but I always have very noticable symptoms.
Blondes and Mellebacca I hope no more exorcist style vomits...
HaichMOh dear, an attendance meeting and notice to quit. Poor you. I hope he doesn't manage to sell the house for ages. I hope you don't try and rush back to work...
Apologies if I've rudely ignored anyone. We haven't heard form Rubyreins in a while...

Well, we all missed our sweep stake guesses. 6:30! Not been sick that early for a few weeks now. Can't say I'd missed it! Gagged my way through the drink and managed to keep it down. As usual both pre and post bloods were a nightmare as I have rubbish veins. Had to send for an anaesthetist! Ah well, all done now. And they said if they hadn't phoned by 8:30 I was in the clear. So, hopefully signed off with consultant next week back in to midwife lead.
26 weeks today Shock I can't quite believe where the last 22 weeks have gone down the plug hole, mainly

IAmSeriousAndDontCallMeShirley · 02/03/2017 11:21

Just a quick check in from me. My husband sent me this a moment ago.
Might help someone suffering to seek more support, good to see it reported.

Hello all.

I had HG with my first pregnancy and these threads were a great source of support. I'm now 16 months post birth and still feeling nauseous some days - I have no interest in food at all, I'd live off tea and bland toast if I could. My sense of smell has never gone back to normal and food aversions never went. Im wondering if this is physical or psychological? Has anyone else had this?

I'm also feeling exactly as I did when I was pregnant last time but haven't had a period post birth yet! The chances of being pregnant must be tiny, surely?

Did any of you have the nausea come back post birth? I'm wondering if my hormones are gearing up to start my periods again or something?

LucindaE · 02/03/2017 12:44

fourcorneredcircle So glad you survived the test - Sad about dismally early bile run. Good news that all seems well.
IAmSerious Thanks so much for that link. Good to see.
Antidae Welcome back to an old friend. What was your user name sixteen months ago? I hope you haven't felt as bad as this all this while- have you been breast feeding - I suppose that would be why your cycle has taken so long to return. A very few women - trust me to be among them - have suffered after birth, and it did seem connected with breast feeding, and some of us were ill with infections and blood loss, which was a factor. I was being violently sick for two weeks after the birth, then it was only mild. Lucy has been quite ill, but she had a dangerous infection and had one of the worst cases of Hyperemesis I have known Some of us still felt sick on and off when feeding, but you are very brave if you have lasted so long feeling bad. Besides, you must be run down as it's draining anyway. That really must have been so awful, and this is so little understood that I should think you must have suffered from a terrible lack of sympathy. I don't want to alarm you - but you couldn't have conceived, by any chance, before your cycle returned?

Anyone got radio 2 on?

CastleFeck · 02/03/2017 13:11

Hi everyone.

Four glad you survived the ggt and passed too. You're so close to tri 3 now!

Blondes wow it's nearly pink castle time. Are you on Mat leave yet?

Thanks for the thread as ever Mother Hen Lucinda.

Just popping by to say hi as I've been listening to J Vine on radio 2 who has done a section on HG. Good to get some publicity for how serious hg is. Maybe that Dr was listening.

Also offering words of hope. I'm 33 wks now and after a return of nausea and sickness in the 20s I'm finally finally feeling better. Wishing you all a speedy improvement.

Melleebacca · 02/03/2017 18:08

Anatidae - this is probably not what you want to hear....my DD weaned herself in November and I had wild HG symptoms for two days. I assumed it was the sudden change of hormones as no one else in the house got sick. Took a pregnancy test and it was negative. Went on my merry way with no cycle, yet expecting it every day, decided to visit doctor in the new year if it hadn't returned. Felt nauseous the week before Christmas, with a couple of other pregnancy signs, so took another test which turned out positive. My last cycle was before my daughter was conceived.
If you're unsure, take a test, if negative, go to the doctor and see if there's another reason for you to be out of whack so long after pregnancy.

fourcorneredcircle · 02/03/2017 18:57

castle interesting about radio 2, I didn't hear it but this article appeared today too www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2017/mar/02/pregnancy-sickness-can-kill-why-are-doctors-so-uninformed?CMP=fb_gu is the 02/03 HG day?!?!

Anatidae · 02/03/2017 19:09

Hi Lucinda, I was skiptonlass. I was sick previously from a few days before the bfp to the birth. It was an horrendous experience and i think it's left me with a spot of ptsd or similar 😳 I'm having therapy, just started, so hope that will help. I also have damaged teeth and throat. This thread was a huge source of comfort to me

  • I do want another baby (I must be mad!) so if I have conceived it's ok - I've not been able to face alcohol among many other things and I've been taking folic acid so I'm covered! I am very very run down though. I don't think I've recovered physically or mentally and that does worry me.

If I am pregnant I am going to be forewarned and make much more fuss to be treated appropriately- the hands off approach when I was so so sick was awful. I still feel enraged thinking about it.
Hope all you lovely ladies have a nausea free evening!

Anatidae · 02/03/2017 19:14

Congratulations mellee Grin

I took a test today and it was negative- I'll try again in a week or so.

LucindaE · 02/03/2017 19:15

four Thanks for another great link.
Mellee Good advice...
Castleck Happy news. Thanks so much for that bit of encouragement for those seeing no light at the end of the tunnel/grotesque Hyperemesis snakes and ladders board game.
I hope people have not been sliding down too many snakes today.
Blah How are you coping?
Our lovely LightTripper is all set to go tomorrow. Best of luck.
Flowers We are going to miss you. You've been wonderful. Try and find a spare minute to say how things went...

Anitidae SkiptonLass! Welcome back. I remember you well. Whatever the cause, I do hope something can be done about the nausea, that is so miserable. Given the ignorance that surrounds this scourge, I'm not surprised that you feel angry about how you were treated. It can take a good long while to be able to forgive the ignorant remarks/dismissive medics, etc etc.

OP posts:
LucindaE · 02/03/2017 19:21

Anitidae That damaged throat sounds awful. I never heard of that as a lasting thing, besides this resurgant nausea. Poor you.

OP posts:
Melleebacca · 02/03/2017 19:39

Anatidae - I'm now 15w, and in my opinion the second time around is so much harder mentally. I've been on ondansetron since I got the bfp, so the sickness didn't get as bad, but mentally it's awful. Especially the feeling of letting my daughter down. I didn't expect to get pregnant so fast, so try to be as prepared as possible for the bedrest before it hits. Good luck! Xx

fourcorneredcircle · 02/03/2017 20:31

And another one!

www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-39142661

LightTripper · 02/03/2017 23:10

Thanks for the good wishes! Due in at 9 tomorrow. I'm hoping it won't take as long as last time as they won't let me go home once I'm in, so could be a boring day if it takes a long time to kick off! My friend was allowed out to a local cafe so hopefully we can at least do that. Really glad the end is in sight though... I'm as ready as I'll ever be!

Will definitely pop back with news but may take a while, so don't worry if you don't hear for a bit!

Glad to see HG getting a bit of press/awareness. It's shocking how many people have no idea (including doctors!) I really liked the emphasis on the Radio item on the importance of emotional support /even just plain sympathy and acknowledgement that it is shit. It's about 30 minutes in if anybody else wants to listen...

LT xx

CastleFeck · 03/03/2017 02:29

Good luck light tripper, xx

LucindaE · 03/03/2017 10:23

All good luck, LightTripper. You are a veteran then. I never knew they let you out to a cafe- fancy that. I hope it all goes wonderfully and straightforwardly.
Caitlin Dean, who gave the Guardian interview, runs the Pregnancy Sickness Support website. She's a nurse, I believe. The Hyperemesis world is truly a small one.

Daffodil397 · 03/03/2017 16:20

Ooh I'm a bit behind the times, but thinking of you lighttripper!
Hope the wait isn't too long, and the delivery of your beautiful baby goes smoothly and your hg goes out of the window where it deserves to be!! Bring on the chocolate and all the food you used to love! Wishing you a very happy time with your new little one. Xx
Hi anitadae if you are joining the crazy bunch of us who are doing this a 2nd time, welcome!! Gosh it sounds like you suffered a lot 1st time round, and are still feeling the effects which just does not seem fair. This is probably stating the obvious but have you had a look at iron levels? If you had hg and still aren't feeling like eating much you could be a little low? My symptoms are a bit better this time round if you get a +ve test and that's reassuring at all. Like you although I did not want to do hg another time I did still have a hankering for baby no 2. Wasn't quite planned for me either but I feel very lucky in between feeling resentful about the symptoms!
Hello to lucinda blondes' mellee, shirley 4cornered anyone else I've rudely missed. blah how are you doing?
haitch wow I felt for you reading your post. I hope the meeting at work goes well. I hope they get that hg is a medical condition and they need to accommodate you and not make things difficult.
And what crappy timing re your landlord. Hope that goes as smoothly as possible, that you find a better place for your family even.
We're also looking at a house move as my dh has just got a job a couple of hours away. When I've got enough energy I'm kind of panicking about it. All will be well, though, I'm sure we'll look back at this time and laugh...!
Xx

Mammabear13 · 03/03/2017 18:57

Hi again everyone,

Sorry, I've been reading along on the whole, just lacking energy and brain capacity to type much! But hello to you all. The last 10 days have been awful, typically following a few days where I thought I had turned a corner, and not sure whether I'm heading up or down!

On the plus side I was very thankful to have my scan today and see that bubs is doing well. Took our 3 year old and she loved it, was nice to have a special moment with her, where I wasn't throwing up for a change! Not that it lasted long, they took some bloods and I was promptly sick after that. I am thrilled to finally have been given a due date - 7th September - especially as it puts me ahead a week of what I thought and with hg it's always nice to skip a week Smile (With my daughter they put me back 2 weeks, I had to keep counting as I was, couldn't cope with the mental stress of an extra 2 weeks!)

Hoping for a swift entrance to the castle for lighttripper and ladders for the rest of us

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/03/2017 21:28
