I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

ps had an amazing baby shower, was soooooooooooooooo spoilt, bubs got far too much and christ knows where going to put it all Shock

most have been friends fr years and know by the time bubs is born would have been ttc for 11yrs, plus the 5 private ivf, so bubs is a miracle, and should have given me an easy pregancy lol

LucyHMK · 27/02/2017 20:33

What a lucky club we are, Lucinda! Henry is good thanks, other than having a cold which means he wants more breast feeding than usual, not good for the queasy. It has on the whole largely gone now I've started giving him more formula. I'm now insanely hungry. I must stop eating so much before I look like I'm pregnant again!!

Blondes my boy is a miracle baby too 🙂

LucyHMK · 27/02/2017 20:41

Ah, I just saw what you meant. Showmethewayhome my son is 10 1/2 weeks & I had to give up the idea of exclusively breastfeeding as I was getting sicker & sicker. I think my HG was unusually bad though. I was sick just hundreds of times a day at one point (ondansetron got it down to a few dozen), my hair fell out, I have liver failure & I have to see a specialist in a few weeks about my bone density as they suspect I now have osteo. I actually only took a pregnancy test because I was being so sick (I lost a baby the month before to a ruptured ectopic & was told I needed IVF, so was more than a bit of a shock). Again, like Lucinda says, this isn't usual, hopefully yours will go soon. It's not worth worrying over 🙂

LucyHMK · 27/02/2017 20:41

Oh, and like Lucinda says, I lost a lot of blood at my c section & then got a streptococcus infection in my uterus. Not ideal!

LucindaE · 28/02/2017 09:49

Lucy Great advice to ShowMe . My goodness, that is the infection that used to kill so many women, wasn't it? Thank goodness they treated it effectively. You were one of the most ill on this thread. As for me, I had infected stitches and blood loss, not comparable for seriousness to yours, but maybe a factor in the Hyperemesis hanging about. Really, most people are fine and soon eating back on all the weight they''ve lost in pregnancy.
Blah I hope you have got a bed,my goodness?
How is everyone?

OP posts:
BlahBlahBlahEtc · 28/02/2017 10:23

So... I got a bed and iv's from 6 pm all through the night. The anti emetics have barely worked, I'm still being sick but just after eating now. I have 2 ketones still. The doctor I saw was an asshole (excuse the language) he's discharging me on ondensetron (I was on that and metachlopramide and it stopped working which is why i'm here) and that's it. He said morning sickness.. yeah MORNING SICKNESS, doesn't last past 12 weeks so all I have to do is keep drinking and I'll be fine. Never mind the fact I COULDN'T DRINK because everytime I did I threw up. Sorry I'm angry and upset now. There was 2 resident doctors, 2 nurses and a trainee all stood over me and I just felt intimidated into accepting what he said. So mad at myself.

HaichM · 28/02/2017 12:03

Blah: refuse to go. Say you've changed your mind and you want to see another doctor. Your health and baby's comes way before their intimidation/asshole tactics (he defo sounds like one).

Though no where near as bad as many here, I'm having a rough two days. Have slept only 2-3 hrs the past 2 nights so symptoms going haywire. Major headaches and dizzy spells/light-headedness meant I spent most of yesterday in bed but still couldn't sleep. Hot water bottle and paracetamol did not help at all and seems to be going along similar lines today.

Have midwife appointment in a few hours and I can see myself having a cry and a vent. Hopefully I can hear a heartbeat to reassure me as still not loads of movement, or a bump, or weight gain and 18 weeks now (I know that's probably early but I was defo bigger by this point last time and lack of sleep is making me worry more. I was looking at maternity clothes earlier as there's a sale online in a few places and I am probably going to get some (might as well) but a large part of me was thinking what's the point, everything still fits the same, and another was jealous of all the bumps. I want evidence of baby growth and that everything is progressing and I want it now, even though I have a scan in 2 weeks, and it makes me feel like a pathetic idiot because I'm sure it is all fine and baby does still move enough for me to feel now and then.

On a plus note it's DS' parents evening tonight and those are usually good.

Waves to everyone and hope things are improving. Blah especially take care

Hgmother · 28/02/2017 12:34

They've already discharged me. He even said it was my fault because I didnt keep drinking even when I felt sick. He called me silly :/

BlahblahBlahEtc · 28/02/2017 13:12

Sorry that was me again. For some reason it keeps reverting back.

SleepymrsE · 28/02/2017 13:22

Just thought I'd pop in and cheer everyone on... can't believe how quickly time is flying, DD is 5 months next week!! Waves to lucy. Thankfully my sickness went after 24 hours post birth however I also had to give up breastfeeding after developing hive like rash every time my milk let down. My body just doesn't like all the hormones associated with babies! I'm very much enjoying my food now and weigh more now than I did a week post birth.

Hi to lucinda, LT, blondes and all the others who were around when I was suffering the horrors of HG. This thread was such a lifeline, I often point people in this direction if they are suffering.

LucindaE · 28/02/2017 13:47

Blah That is truly awful. And this was a consultant? Your own fault? I'm truly dismayed. Don't be angry with yourself. It is very hard to fight your corner effectively when you are feeling awful.
I am only glad you got fluids overnight. For some women on here, at this stage they can go in and out when they meet medics like that, who discharge you too early when you are still partly dehydrated. I know they are short of beds, but that isn't the point...I wonder if Pregnancy Sickness Support on 024 7638 2020 might be able to offer some advice about additional meds? Sorry to have forgotten; have you got heartburn? If so, easing that can really help the amount of sickness.
HaichM Much sympathy. Sorry you to hear of painful stomach, head and insomnia. It does one good to break down now and then. I do feel for you , envying the bumps. You will get one - but probably later than average.
SleepyMrsE How lovely of you to call in to encourage others. Now LightTripper and Blondes top the list...

OP posts:
LightTripper · 28/02/2017 14:17

Blah I have no useful advice but just want to echo the others in saying how awful that Doctor is. I can't bear to think of the damage he is doing to women in our darkest hours. Unfortunately although most doctors are wonderful you do occasionally meet one of the misogynist God-complex ones and it feels like you're 6 years old being told off for something you didn't even do and you have no power to resist it. Could your OH or a friend make a complaint on your behalf when you are home (or at least flag it to the hospital patient liaison group or whatever they call it)? There is just no excuse for treating an ill person like that.

I read a really disturbing article a couple of days ago about how much later women get offered pain relief in hospital than men do for the same/equivalent complaints. Sometimes the world (and particularly the medical world) is still a horribly sexist and patronising place.

All fine here. Have come down with a cold which is annoying with induction booked on Friday, but I've come to bed to make my DD's costume for World Book Day (and snooze...!) Hoping if I can get a few restful days I won't be too bad by Friday. I remember the gas and air giving me a bit of a sore throat last time so really don't want to start off with one!

SleepymrsE · 28/02/2017 14:46

Good luck for Friday LightTripper

LightTripper · 28/02/2017 14:51

Waves to SleepyMrsE!!

LightTripper · 28/02/2017 14:51

Thank you!!

Melleebacca · 28/02/2017 17:49

LightTripper - Friday yay! You must be counting down the hours almost! Good luck on the cold, hopefully it clears.

Blah - that's so awful of that doctor. Goodness. How far along are you now? Do you have a supportive midwife? I was told that if I needed fluids, to get admitted and demand to see an OB and a dietician before getting discharged as it gets you in the system faster for more specialist care. But that could just be NZ.

Haich - I only "feel" pregnant for the 3rd trimester. It takes till then for me to get a bump, and for the sickness to wane enough that I talk about pregnancy rather than being sick. I also only got clothes a size bigger to wear for the last few weeks rather than specific maternity clothes, which was nice on the budget but I would've loved some nursing tops. 2 weeks till your scan isn't long, and hopefully you will be reassured then. Stay positive!

Blondes - your baby shower sounds amazing. Hopefully you were able to keep a wee bit down.

Daffodil397 · 28/02/2017 18:02

Hi all,
Wanted to say hello, been thinking about you all but haven't managed to post until today. Just got s few mins before I have to pick the lo up.
Sorry haven't had time to catch up properly.
Just quickly, blah so sorry about that awful and I think professionally negligent doctor! You are likely to have to have another trip in now to sort it out properly I guess. It's awful how they can be so blinkered and just want to get rid of patients sometimes.
Don't know if helpful, but when I was in and it looked like I wasn't going to be admitted despite medication not working yet and me still chucking up, my mum who used to be a nurse helped me prepare to speak to the dr, said they need info in quantities so they can't dismiss it- I was quite forgetful at that stage but we cobbled together something like - kept only 150 MLS down in last 2 days, 3 weeks since kept a meal down etc. Might be useful to prep with dp/friend so you are ready to fight if you have to again. So sorry you've had this experience. Flowers
Update for me..week 16 and my vomiting seems to be getting worse not better. Might not help that dd had sickness bug and think me and dh have it mildly, it's maybe given my nausea some encouragement that it just didn't need- and my tiredness is still so full on, I'm sleeping st night and through day and lying down after every little thing.
Went to mw in a bit of a state last week after rowing with dh and she said she thought I should be signed off work for a couple of weeks- felt such relief! Called in today. Boss not happy bless him but I have to keep telling myself that if I could go in I would. Looking forward to week of rest. My brain is already trying to line up jobs that I could do so I need to keep scaling down my expectations. I made a bad patient, got no patience!
Anyway just to say hi, waves and pats of encouragements to you all xxx

LucindaE · 28/02/2017 20:36

Daffodil Welcome back. Sorry that sickness has got worse again recently. I hope it is a hormonal surge. I am so glad you have been signed off from work. Great advice about taking detailed notes about amount of liquids taken in, and an advocate.
LightTripper I so agree with all you say! Your advice and support is always so good.
Blondes I missed that about the baby shower. I am glad it went well. Such fun. Everyone must be so delighted to welcome this long awaited baby.
SleepyMrsE Lovely to hear from you with such nice words. I hope you'll call in from time to time to keep up with old friends.
HaichM I hope you had a better night last night?

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 28/02/2017 20:37

@tripper. Whoop for fri. How exciting.

@blah. So wrong how you are being treated :( def ask for new doctor or go to triage

@mel. Yes kept all good down at babyshower

Tho did have the exorcist last night. 😢😱Df said it was coz I put extra butter on mash potato

I said I have butter on an egg and bacon sandwich and ketchup and fine !!!

@sleepy. Wow at 5mths. Few weeks left for me and can't wait. Ready for bubs to come

@lucy. Miracles are lovely. ESP as think you said wasn't ivf

@daffodil if gp says sign off work then do it and don't eel
Bad

@haich. Kwym about not feeling anything and worrying etc esp if have a few days of not being sick

I used to say haven't been sick for a few days and now worry about bubs and then have a few days of violently sick and reassured

fourcorneredcircle · 28/02/2017 22:54

blah that doctor sounds awful. I am so angry on your behalf. I second asking an advocate for support dealing with. Doesn't have to be a man necessarily, just someone calm, reasoned and informed. Got anyone that could help?

Light Friday! Oh my goodness!

GTT tomorrow... DH and I have taken bets on what time I start throwing up bile. If I don't eat, I'm awful. I'm like a first trimester normal MS woman in the respect now that nausea can often be curbed by a not so little nibble on something.

If anyone would like to enter the sweepstakes (bragging rights are the only prize) I've gone for 8:30, he's gone for 10:00 "or whatever time they give you that drink"

Melleebacca · 01/03/2017 05:40

Four - good luck with the yucky drink. My money is on you puking minutes after the blood is drawn :)

I finally got told the results of my 8w blood draw and my iron levels were really good, so hoping that's what helping the sickness a bit more this time around. When did everyone start getting energy back after the vomiting eased? I've had 5 vom free days in a row, and trying to eat more but I feel exhausted almost continuously.

Melleebacca · 01/03/2017 06:16

Ok, spoke too soon, only 4 vom free days and then 4 days worth of vomit today. Not quite exorcist style but not far off.

MardyBum2017 · 01/03/2017 12:14

Hi all.
Just checking in. I'm 15 weeks now.
Ondansetron has been really helpful. Been taking it a week and a half now and it has cut the sickness right down. I'm typically still retching and feeling nauseous all day but only seem to be losing my evening meal.... and breakfast sometimes! I also just feel a bit more human! I can function in terms of showering, preparing meals etc! Wonderful!
Planning on returning to work next week, after 8 weeks off with majority of that spent in bed! Really hoping the pressures of work won't make the HG return- anyone any experience/advice on this? Also dreading needing to be sick at work... one staff toilet on a busy ward, leaving sessions with patients etc! Eeek!
On another note, a urine sample I gave during hospital admission last week has shown UTI however I have none of the usual symptoms - anyone else had this? I have to give another sample to GP to confirm before discussing antibiotics.
Wishing everyone a better day xx

HaichM · 01/03/2017 13:11

Lucinda and Mellee: thanks for the reassurance. Baby is of course all fine and has gone back to moving and kicking more. I was like you last time Mellee with regards to mat clothes but I went 2 sizes up as I went sideways as well as forwards. I picked up a pair of jeans, a couple of tops and a dress all for under £10 each in the sale and with my normal stuff that is loose or has a bit of give, I'm probably sorted until 3rd trimester.

Mellee: Within a few days of nausea starting to decrease I had a bit more energy but not any real boost, but then I do have the vertigo and stuff making life difficult too.

Lucinda: I stayed up later last night but didn't really sleep any better. Had one lie down today where I might have dozed off, probably going to have another one in a min as still all fuzzy headed.

Four: good luck!

Blondes: oh no! Hope today is much better

I sent an email to manager outlining my situ and saying I have no idea if I'm fit yet or if I could have a reduced timetable. I then got a letter saying I have an attendance meeting next week to discuss things so we'll see what happens.

In other news, the landlord rang last night and said he's putting the house on the market so we need to find somewhere new and do it quickly. Yay!

Waves to everyone. Hi again Daffodil and Mardybum

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/03/2017 15:31

@MEL. I was the same. Few good days then sick again

@four. I somehow managed to keep it down for the two hour tho gagging and literally as blood taken I was severely sick in reception. In car park on way home and went to bed for afternoon as felt so ill :(

Fine the next day x
