I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Blondes - have so much fun!

Twinkle - my hubby subscribed me to audible which costs $20 a month and you get one audiobook a month, I believe. The app was pretty good. Or you could go old school and get CDs from the library.

Today is the first day since early Jan that it's just me and DD. I've got the iPad charged and the TV at the ready. Hoping we are both still happy by the time hubby gets home.

HaichM · 26/02/2017 17:04

Fingers crossed Melllee. Have a good day and take care

LightTripper · 26/02/2017 17:57

Twinkle if you don't mind not having so much choice there are quite a lot of readings and plays on the BBC radio iplayer. It's a separate app from the TV one. If you go on the Drama menu they have quite a lot of different stuff (I think anything broadcast in the last 30 days).

LucindaE · 26/02/2017 18:20

TwinkleLittleStar1 Welcome to the thread nobody wants to be on! At least everyone is very helpful here. I have heard good things said about that combination on here - that the Stemetil really helps the nausea and I believe the meto. helps digestion speed up which helps a malfunctioning stomach - but it doesn't help everyone. . If it still doesn't seem effective in a day or so then there are plenty of other combinations they can try. Ondansetron is the one they go for last because of expense mainly - but it doesn't seem to do much for nausea. How are you finding the magic sips of flat full sugar coke, ice lollies, ice cubes, the juice of tinned fruit or the fruit itself, Dr Pepper, sips of chocolate milkshake (maybe soya if you can't stand dairy) or cuppa soup? Have you got kesostix in readiness form a chemists for the early stages of dehydration.
Melleebacca I hope all went well with DD today. Awful about a burning chocolate Shock
HaichM Congratulations on chocolate bar!
MuvvaWifey77 The numb tongue seems to be a common side effect, and some do say it makes them feel iller. The acidity is miserable, and often lingers when the Hyperemesis has beaten a retreat - I believe Omeprazole - I think that is the spelling- is agreed to be a good for haertburn. To be honest, I just didn't find Gaviscon touched it for more than half an hour. I'm glad you are having some good days.

Hi all. Sorry for being a lurker! I am reading most of what's being said.
Things with me are crap..as per usual. My partner told me off today for being useless (well he didn't use those exact words but that's what he was getting at) I dont blame him for that. Things have been amazingly hard for him since I got hg. I'm back to not keeping water down so it won't be long before I'm back admitted to hospital. Just hope they let me out and don't keep me in! Best wishes to all of you! And super congrats for those who are nearing the end and get to snuggle their squishy babies soon Bear

Twinklelittlestar1 · 26/02/2017 19:08

Hi ladies, thanks for the wonderful advice. I'm managing to eat but not much and not much in the way of nutritious foods! I reckon I'm managing about 1000 calories a day (slightly more but after being sick that's probably about it) which I know must be better than some but if this is long term should I be concerned? Is there anything I should get to supplement my diet?

HaichM · 26/02/2017 19:23

Blah: have you tried alternatives to water? A lot of us don't manage water. I'm currently on cranberry juice.

Twinkle: vitamin supplements?

Hgmother · 26/02/2017 19:28

Yeah I've tried it all, when the midication stops working like this nothing helps :/ thanks for the suggestion though, I love cranberry juice !

LucindaE · 26/02/2017 20:41

Blah Really sorry to hear that. Things will get better. They do for almost everyone. They may yet find a combination of meds that helps. Cyper pats on offer.
Twinkle You've had great advice, but I know some women on here have been able to bear those milkshakes with added vitamins, sometimes offered in hospital.

ShowMeTheWayHome · 26/02/2017 20:46

Does anyone know if HG stops as soon as you give birth? Or does it take time afterwards, and if so how long?

Many thanks

Melleebacca · 26/02/2017 21:22

Showme - depends. My HG gets better throughout the pregnancy with just mild nausea at the end, then within hours of giving birth I'm all better. Others do have lingering HG after birth, but I think it depends on hormones etc.

Blah - you really have it tough. In order to avoid admittance, go to the hospital before you get too bad.

Twinkle - baby is taking everything it needs from your supplies. I think it took me till the 3rd trimester to be able to have 2000 calories a day. Pre natal vitamins are generally a good mix of what the baby needs.

Melleebacca · 27/02/2017 06:59

Survived day with DD. Even made dinner, it's a family quiche recipe so prepared it early and put it in the oven when required. DD and I did most of the prep sitting on the floor, but it was still a huge accomplishment. Been in bed since 4pm though. Definitely corner turning - yay

LucindaE · 27/02/2017 09:09

HGMama Hello and welcome, if you are new. Am I getting in a muddle, or are you one of the regulars posting under another name? I couldn't find that part of the discussion - probably me being obtuse.
Melleebacca That is wonderful! Well done on surviving the day and the quiche. I am sure DD enjoyed cooking with you. May you have many more such days!
ShowMeTheWayHome Welcome. Ah, this is the question I feel bad about answering! For the vast majority - maybe 98 per cent? - the Hyperemesis goes either immediately after the birth for within a day. For the very unlucky few it can linger. It does go - be assured of that - but some do suffer from feelings of nausea with the letdown reflex and curtail breastfeeding sooner than they would otherwise because it is frankly miserable. As Melleebacca says, goodness knows why; it must be hormonal. It does seem more likely to happen if you have been very ill and suffered throughout - ie, Lucy and OnceAMeer or with Slippers on the first thead, several years ago - or being ill with an infection after blood loss can bring it back, it seems -I really didn't suffer badly compared to most, and was better but for residual heartburn and occasional vomiting from that by week 15, and it didn't really kick off until week 10 with me - but I did have it for two weeks after birth badly enough to have difficulty with producing milk, and then it became just a mild feeling of nausea when feeding. So, I wouldn't worry! Out of all the women on this thread - hundreds, over the years - only about six have reported suffering after birth.
Hope everyone is OK this morning.

Bloomin'heck I'm such a dummy, I blame dehydration (I wish I could, I'm just generally a clutz lol)
HGmother is me, I changed it for a sensitive thread and forgot.

BlahBlahBlahEtc · 27/02/2017 11:55

Can any one tell me how many mg is 3+ keytones? Is it 80? Hospital said they won't see me unless I'm 3+ but my keytone strips are in mg (helpful huh)

LucindaE · 27/02/2017 13:27

Blah Don't worry about pen name, easily done! About that measurement, I can find no sensible way of converting it given online. I would phone up the maternity unit or the doctors. If it is the equivalent of 3+ you unfortunately will need to go in. If you feel very light headed, unfortunately that is a sign.
Have you got a headache, blurry vision, dry skin etc? All bad signs.
Do keep us informed.

OP posts:
BlahBlahBlahEtc · 27/02/2017 13:33

Yeah, everything. I think I need to go in again. Dammit. Thanks for your help again Flowers

LucindaE · 27/02/2017 14:41

Blah You poor old thing. You will feel a lot better for fluids, though. Much sympathy. Things will get better.

Hi all, just been catching up to see how you're all doing & thought I'd say hi.

Second the Wonder Weeks app regimentation. Henry just came out of his second leap, it's so accurate.

Twinkle if you have an iPhone there are some great podcasts for free. I love Get It On by Dawn O'Porter, Letters to my Fanny by Cherry Healey, The Pool by The Pool UK, Ctrl Alt Delete by Emma Gannon, & Hey it's okay by Glamour magazine. About to start My Dad Wrote A Porno - supposed to be very funny!

IAmSeriousAndDontCallMeShirley · 27/02/2017 15:51

Lucy I can highly recommend my dad wrote a porno. It's hilarious and oh so very wrong! X

LucyHMK · 27/02/2017 16:20

Ha! I've downloaded it, it's definitely on the list!

fourcorneredcircle · 27/02/2017 17:34

Hope you enjoyed your shower blondes Smile

blah how you doing?

Not at work for the next few days due to various appointments including the dreaded GTT on Wednesday. It's nice to gleefully plan what I will be doing when not in the hospital rather than just try and get through another day. Think I might buy some baby stuff...
Now that the cyclizine is back in my system properly the vomit has tailed off. Mostly just wretching now. Which is ver ver attractive!

BlahBlahBlahEtc · 27/02/2017 17:52

Hey, been here in a&e for 2 1/2 hours but managers been out telling everyone that doesn't need to be here to go home because there's no beds. It has been heaving today so I'm not surprised. She said it's gonna be a long wait to be seen. Even with vomiting, 4+ ketones and low blood sugar! Oh well!

LucindaE · 27/02/2017 18:33

BlahBlahBlahEtc Sorry to hear that. That is a very high level of dehydration, but it's awful you have to wait. They have begun the fluids when some women were waiting - but I suppose it's a general lack of spare facilities. Poor you. Much sympathy.
Waves to all. Those sound like great entertainment ideas.
Lucy How are things? Glad baby is well. I hope you are feeling better yourself, and the nausea has largely gone now? I mentioned you below as one of the unlucky few who suffered after birth - along with me and a few others...
