I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Lol, that was meant to be 'cocoanut juice' not 'cocoa juice'!

Hi Lucinda,
We still don't have the results. They are going to do a scan of her abdomen looking for abnormal growths. They say it will either be an abnormal growth, and endocrine disorder, or a blood disorder. But will take time to find out. They whole thing is complicated by her syndrome and anatomy not being completely normal as it is.

I have had a few fainting episodes, and my helpful GP said 'try not to faint as the baby will be deprived of oxygen'. Ah yes thank you Dr, I have complete control of course.... have taken to the sofa this week and trying to relax.

Hope everyone is well. Any new of an arrival?! Xx

fourcorneredcircle · 22/02/2017 14:25

ImSerious "try not to faint" wow... your Dr. went to med school to have the right to dispense that advice... glad to hear you have your feet up this week :)

Lucinda hmmmm dr. Pepper... just reading that made my mouth water, thanks! gets coat

MamaErmintrude · 22/02/2017 15:42

Well ladies I'm thrilled to say that MamaBaby arrived at 4am weighing 7lb 2oz Smile it wasn't the easiest entrance to the pink castle but she's here and she's amazing Smile so keep it up ladies, you can and will get there... I'm trying to figure out how to post a photo from my phone but seem to be struggling Hmm

Mammabear13 · 22/02/2017 16:16

Congratulations MamaE & well done what wonderful news! Hope you settle in well with her and that she brings you much joy Flowers

LightTripper · 22/02/2017 16:25

Hello fourcornered - your comment on blackcurrant made me remember that in my first pregnancy I drank a lot of lime cordial - could be worth a try? This time I couldn't bear it - I think it's quite common that once you've thrown something up a lot it's very hard to eat/drink it again while nauseous so you have to keep chopping and changing...

Also to second everyone saying that really seems like HG Muva. My GP put HG on a form this time, despite having very little weight loss because I got pills early enough that I was keeping at least a couple of meals a day down. But my understanding was the "definition" for HG was based on weight loss when untreated. As Lucinda says, the best advice now is to start treatment early (so it's more effective) - which means if the treatment works there might not be much weight loss even if you would have lost a lot of weight without pills.

On the gender thing I'm sure I've read in the past it's worse with girls than boys. But I had a girl first, and now am pregnant with a boy, and I'm sure that my sickness was worse this time until I found pills, and would have been worse than last time without the pills (as it's lasted longer and ramped up more at the end, which didn't happen to me last time).

Welcome to all the other new people. Seems like not so long ago I was at the bottom of the due dates list and now I'm at the top! Hang in there. It feels ever so slow to begin with and just getting through one day feels like a marathon, but then the horror days pass and you get into "the slog" and time passes a bit quicker xx

LightTripper · 22/02/2017 16:26

Ooooh Mama just saw your post - amazing news!! Welcome to the world MamaBaby - and be good for Mama, she needs a bit of a break now!

LightTripper · 22/02/2017 16:28

And Serious, as to "try not to faint"!!!!!!

I hope you get your DD's results back soon and it gives you some clarity and some solutions. Are you all in hospital until then, or are you able to get home?

Hollyhop17 · 22/02/2017 16:31

Congratulations Mama, really happy for you! Apologies for being so silent recently, after my setback I felt quite depressed. I am pleased to say I am definitely on the up. Appetite is starting to come back, I am back at work part time and even managed a painfully slow jog on Monday! I am 19 weeks today. I just wanted to throw a little light out there for those in the grips of HG. I never thought I would feel better and although I am still sick, this is now a few times a week rather than several a day. The nausea has largely gone, but either way it is slightly easier to cope with. Lots of hugs to those still suffering, I hope it eases for you too and congrata again to Mama :)

Melleebacca · 22/02/2017 17:23

Mama - congrats! So happy for you at the pink castle. I hope the HG resolved immediately and you feel great again. Enjoy your precious wee bundle.

Four - I totally get the change of safe food and drinks. Apple juice seemed to help with my first pregnancy, but can't touch it this time around. My cupboards are literally full of foods 'mel once ate but can't eat anymore'. And my freezer of frozen coke which I've gone off of.

Serious - hope everything with your DD resolves soon. And what stupid fainting advice. No one chooses to faint. Some doctors!

Holly - you're doing amazing! A jog even! I don't think I will be able to walk the dog until 24w, and he's blind so doesn't even move very fast! 😊 I hope you keep improving.

Muva - that sounds like very bad HG with that level of vomiting! I hope ondansetron helps you. It takes a few days to build up in the system. And get constipation help right away, because it gets bad, especially on a full dose. I'm on 2 x tabs of laxol a day, and it's only just enough to keep everything moving.

Slogging through here. Dreams are definitely more full on this pregnancy. Just had one with a big fight with hubby in it so not liking him this morning, even though he's done nothing wrong.
MMH has taken me on, I have ante natal depression from the HG so they're keeping an eye on me. They correctly identified that my drug of choice is food and having that removed from my life on top of being sick is causing my sadness.

Melleebacca · 22/02/2017 17:32

And on the gender theory - I had a girl last time around, and have had an almost identical pregnancy, even down to the heart rate so hubby has decided it's another girl. But the people in my family who have had HG had an equal split between girls and boys.

LucindaE · 22/02/2017 17:52

MamaErmintrude What lovey news! And a perfect size. Sorry to hear brith wasn't easy. Flowers Star CakeGrin. I do hope you can show us a photo.
IAmSerious That is distrubing news - impossible not to feel stressed about it. Cyber pats on offer. I'm speechless about the silly advice from the Dr. It vies with the 'You really should try not to be sick' which women on here have often been told.
fourcorneredcircle All luck with the Dr Pepper.
LightTripper All so true.
HollyHop17 That's wonderful news; jogging! Thanks for coming on; that will be so encouraging for those who have just started out on the horrible Hyperemesis Nightmare Board Game. You manage to drink half a pint of water - one square forward. Bile run; two squares back. It makes me think of Snakes and Ladders; my family had an old board with a pink castle at the end on the finishing square; that's how I came to imagine the fabulous pink castle...

Hollyhop17 · 22/02/2017 18:57

Thanks for your lovely messages Lucinda and Melle! I've had such great support from this thread I wanted to, in some small way, try and give back.

Melle, sorry to hear about your fight with DH and the ante natal depression. I suffer from a mental health condition and that definitely made HG worse for me. It was all I could think about and fixated on how I felt. Food is a big crutch for me too, so I can totally understand. Hugs.

Whoever was told to 'try not to faint' I sympathise. A GP told me when I told him I was being sick 10/15 times a day 'well you're pregnant, what did you expect'. Another told me to stop crying as 'it only makes things worse'. There is only 1 GP at my surgery I will see now!

CastleFeck · 22/02/2017 19:31

Congratulations MamaE amazing news, hope you are feeling ok?

Mel sorry you're struggling with Antenatal Depression as well as HG. It's such a slog.

Amazed at the jog Holly, well done.

KikiA · 22/02/2017 20:41

Hi all,

I hope everyone is surviving! I wanted to ask a question... I can only apologise if TMI, but I'm having terrible constipation because of my Ondansetron, and appreciate that this is the norm (however rotten)! However, I haven't managed to go properly in a week and my nausea is back with a vengeance this evening (despite the addition of the miraculous prochlorperazine)... can constipation contribute to sickness? I'm struggling to understand how I suddenly feel so awful when I have been managing fairly well so far this week? HELP!!

Thanks.. x

Melleebacca · 22/02/2017 21:01

Kiki - I find constipation makes me feel sicker, there's enough going on in there without getting blocked up as well. I feel for you, a week is a long time. I recommend lactulose (you can buy it over the counter at the pharmacy just don't mention pregnancy).
But don't be disheartened if you fix the constipation issue and still feel rotten. HG recovery is two steps forward, one step back. I had an okayish week last week and an awful one this week. Exertion, tiredness etc all make HG worse.
Good luck

KikiA · 22/02/2017 21:22

Thanks Mellee,

Well I just did a horrendous puke (bled from tonsils, throat and nose.. even managed to squirt bile out of my nose). I went through the absolute pits last week, but has been miles better since I also started taking prochlorperazine.. just hoping it fades enough for the meds to totally take care of the rest. God, it really is awful!! Yes, have just taken some lactulose but have avoided as it gives me horrendous tummy cramps and gas... poor sonographer could be in for a treat tomorrow as I have my 12 week scan 😖! Wish me luck!! Thanks so much for the reply! X

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/02/2017 22:39

@muva@ I'm on cyczline and was so sick early preg we thought had identical twins as only had one embryo back in

fourcorneredcircle · 23/02/2017 08:47

Mama congratulation on the birth of babybear SmileWineFlowersCake. Go and eat ALLLLLLL the foods Wink

Kiki ah, the exorcist puke, we've all been there. I had to call my mum to help me clean up after I ahem, redecorated the hall... it just comes from nowhere, doesn't it? Hope you don't have too many more.

blondes your toes are very pretty (lady garden too, I'm sure). I can see what you mean about swollen feet though. Is it painful or just annoying?

Enjoying Cold, but flat, dr. Pepper here. DH thinks I'm mad...thanks for the idea Lucinda

MagnumAddict · 23/02/2017 15:22

Bless you Blondes! My ankles looked like that towards the end when I had ds and for a week or two after! I remember looking at my ankles a few months down the line and thinking wow they are so slim Grin

Big Congrats on the new arrival and hopefully the end of any sickness!!

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/02/2017 15:50

@four. Just ache at ankle joint as when walk all puffy so no bending if that makes sense so each step hurts

But hey I have nice toes 😂

Try to study lady garden in mirror but can't see much under my bump. Refuse to take a pic ........

@magnum assume feet so go down eventually. Don't want like this for the next 4:5w

IAmSeriousAndDontCallMeShirley · 23/02/2017 15:54

Mama Congratulations! I'm over the moon for you. Welcome to mama baby! I hope you manage to post a pic. Love a squishy newborn! I hope she's being good for you and you are enjoying whatever food you fancy. Xx

Holly- your GP sounds like a charmer! You should def be sick on them if you get the chance... We have one great one at the surgery I go to, but others have been very hit and miss.

Oo Blondes those ankles look sore. Mine were like that last time, couldn't wear anything but flip flops. I had a tingly leg balm from John Lewis that was amazing and helped a lot.

Lucinda thanks for the kind words. We are still waiting for news but have been allowed to do so as outpatients. So enjoying some mummy daughter time.

Waves to everyone! Xxx

Melleebacca · 23/02/2017 16:59

Blondes - I've heard that to prevent fluid retention, you have to drink heaps of water. I didn't swell with DD, so have no personal experience to go on. Few ante natal friends did but they said it went down quickly.

For those first timers, I recommend paying for the 'wonder weeks' app. Most babies go through development leaps at the same ages and the app explains when and why. DD is just about to go through her last one (thank god), and is getting really clingy and annoying in prep for that.
