I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Anna123 sorry, that message should say words to the effect of: 'doctors only prescribe them when the risks of not taking them outweigh any minor statistical risks of takng them'... Silly me!

whoate Interestingly, the awful diet that people follow on here does often feature Macdonalds. Is it that they add a lot of salt and sugar even to their salads, I wonder, as it is salty and sugary foods that seem most bearable?

Annaa123 · 20/01/2017 17:24

Thank you Lucinda, that's made me feel a lot better about it, I'll have a look at that link :) I was feeling so guilty for having to take tablets, worrying I'd put my baby at risk, but as she was only one doctor out of 3 I'd spoken to, it seems maybe she was being over-cautious and not very tactful in her wording

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/01/2017 21:19

Jaffa. In early weeks really fancied salty chips aka mac Donald's and drove miles out of my way to get them

I have bubs 4d scan tomorrow at 30/2. Kinda excited seeing her again but also ahhhhhh at alien baby 😂😂

Melleebacca · 20/01/2017 21:39

Blondes - had 4d scan with DD at 30w. Less alien like, more baby like. Enjoy.

LucyHMK · 20/01/2017 23:29

Hi everyone! How are you all? Have there been any more babies? x

Pip1982 · 21/01/2017 12:10

Just to join in on the Ondansetron conversation, the consultant and dispensing pharmacist both said that I should only take if the other two drugs were ineffective- so the packet states 3 a day but I've been told to only take if I need to. They've said that was more about not wanting me to take all 3 though, not any particular danger with the Ondansetron.

LucyHMK · 21/01/2017 12:54

I took Ondansetron until about a fortnight before Henry was due & he's absolutely fine.

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/01/2017 13:39

All good with 4d scan. Bubs looks adorable. Can't wait to meet her.

30.2w and weighs 3lbs 8oz 💓👶🏼💓

Def less alien like then 16w

blondes that's a gorgeous photo!

I've just come to warn everyone that no matter how good you think you might feel, a 20-minute pregnancy yoga video is a very, very bad idea. Very bad. 🤢🤢🤢

I was hoping it would give me some energy and help me feel less achy from being in bed all the time. Sad

LucindaE · 21/01/2017 17:27

Blondes Lovely photo. Very sweet.
SociallyAcceptableCookieOh dear, about that pregnancy yoga class. Sorry to hear that. I hope you managed to reach the loos?

Pip That is interesting about their not wanting you to take that third dosage often. Is it because they have you on several meds, did they say?
LucyHMK Several babies indeed. Nice of you to call back in. How are things and I hope your hair is starting to grow back? Interestingly, I was ill with a chest infection and puking for a a while back in October. A few weeks later, handfuls of my hair started to come out. I lost about half of it, but as it was diffuse, no bald spots; however, it looks awful; had to have it cut.
I hope everyone is (relatively) OK, and that IAmSerious is relaxing at home in non yukky trousers...

Lucinda: atm I seem to be maintaining at the 10kg loss mark. Quite a few people have said it's noticeable, especially around my face but I can't see the diff in my face. Can see the difference in the fit of my clothes though.

Cookie: thanks for the warning. I'll hold off on the pregnancy yoga and jogging for now. I hope you've recovered.

Blondes: great photo! A nice reminder that you're in the last part of the relay and the lovely prize at the end.

Jaffa: go with whatever you feel the urge for. Macdonalds doesn't work for me at all, and all kinds of potatoes are suspect at the mo. My HG is not really interested in eating them and they don't really taste of anything atm which sucks as I'm usually a massive lover of all things spud.

No cravings here. A lot of the time I have no idea what I fancy or want to eat and a fair few times I don't really feel like eating but force myself to.

Today has been alright for me. Overslept this morning but guessing I probably needed the rest as still not sleeping loads at night. Treated myself to a manicure which was enjoyable even though some of it has caught or smudged, particularly as the technician is someone who also didn't enjoy being pregnant and so was appropriately sympathetic. We took DS to the marvel universe live show and he loved it. Watching his face during it was amazing and was a real high point of the week/month really. Didn't enjoy the walking round Meadowhall so much after but I've eaten today with no massive nausea spells and managed some actual drinks so that's all plusses. The big dizzy headache I'm getting now though is not so fun.

Hope the majority of us have managed some good food and some rest this weekend, or more enjoyable activities.

LucyHMK · 21/01/2017 20:53

Lucinda, sorry to hear about your hair. That's miserable - I sympathise!
My hair is coming back in patches. Very fair & fine though. My eyebrows are back though, yay!
I've had a tough few weeks. Naive, I know, but I assumed that the HG would go quickly & it hasn't. Henry is 5 weeks + 2 now & it's just beginning to ease. I can use my hands again but couldn't at first. I couldn't lift him at times. All the pregnancy weight I managed to gain has gone & the result is a bit shocking. I think I'm down about 4 stone. My collar bones look horrific & you can see all of my ribs. Henry struggled to feed as I barely have any milk. Quite common when you're very ill apparently. I'm still mix feeding as I stopped being able to keep down water again & just couldn't eat. Have been able to keep food down for about a week & desperately trying to eat more calories to up my milk supply. HG is a total b*tch, isn't it?
Which babies have I missed?

Sociallyacceptable - I managed to keep up the yoga (despite getting a bit of a reputation in class! 😷), it's worth sticking with if you can as it definitely helped ease the more painful aspects of the end of an HG pregnancy.

Waves to all 👋🏻

Annaa123 · 21/01/2017 21:50

Lucy and pip that's comforting to know :) I guess as pretty much every medication is not recommended for pregnancy, they have to cover themselves when prescribing it. Ondansetron is pretty much the only thing keeping me going at the moment!
Blondes - that's a lovely scan photo!
I had no idea this carried on after birth! Not sure what I was expecting to happen though, maybe a miraculous recovery as soon as baby is out? Really hope you feel better soon Lucy!

SociallyAcceptableCookie · 21/01/2017 22:45

Lucy you poor thing! I also had no idea HG could carry on after birth. I hope it gets better soon.

I didn't go to a yoga class. I just did it at home so loo was within reach but I set myself up to feel awful for the rest of the day instead of better like I hoped.

I went to DH's work party tonight and it was such a nice venue and dinner and party but I've had to come home. I get really anxious about being sick in public places, especially nice ones. I'm proud of myself for going though.

Pip1982 · 22/01/2017 06:18

LucindaE They said it was because they didn't want me to take all 3 too often, and the first 2 should be effective.... I've managed to only take it twice so far as the mix of Cyclizine, Metaclopromide and thiamine seem to be working OK. I'm only being sick once in the morning atm, although I do feel like it's still a constant battle.

Melleebacca · 22/01/2017 07:09

Lucy - OMG! You've been dealt a tough deck. I remember a mention last time of someone who suffered in the post partum. Maybe Lucinda can help with remembering how long they suffered for.

Blondes - gorgeous pic! Not long now till you can squish those cheeks yourself.

Cookie - I only went out for dinner once when preg with DD, was way too scared of puking in someone else's bathroom. You're impressive for dealing with the dinner!

Waves to everyone else. Sorry, a bit too blah to refresh my cloudy memory.

Feeling bad today, but I guess this is a good day because I haven't puked once. Loads of heaving tho. And constipated up to the eyeballs. It ain't coming out either end🤢🚽

Melleebacca · 22/01/2017 07:12

Pip - I was given metachloropromide and ondansetron last time and was allowed to use them both at the same time. Must be too much going on with all 3.

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/01/2017 09:24

Cookie. Have no desire to do yoga. Sorry made you feel ill

Haich - don't you use gel? Impossible to smudge /chip? Glad you enjoyed the show with eldest

Lucy. Sorry to hear still suffering. You must have had hg very bad to lose 4st 😢💐 but glad your baby boy is doing ok. Hope milk comes in more. Try to leave 2.5/3hrs between feeds rather then demand so takes full feed iyswim or try pumping to increase. If using formula then that's fine as well

ANNA. They have to say not tested on preg woman to cover theirselves but from what I've read and people I've known - anyone on drugs for hg their babies have been fine

Sadly body let me down yesterday. Was sick at scan but only as had so much water

But lost lunch after scan and went out for dinner for df dd birthday (24) and had lovely meal but lost it as well. Nice disabled loo tho 😂

Complete waste of £60 !!!!

Feel fine today so obv a blip .....

Keep looking at pic of bubs. Can't believe I'm on the homeward bound stretch now. 9/10w to go

Thinking back at the early weeks /months how crap I felt 😢😷 and now lying in bed feeling bubs kick

Can almost understand why people have another one ........

Tho I won't be lol

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/01/2017 09:26

Tho still hold the prize for not pissing myself yet 🌟🌟😛🌟🌟

Pip1982 · 22/01/2017 10:30

lucy I really hope you feel better soon, you've had it so hard! The fact you're still breastfeeding at all is amazing IMO so whatever happens your little one will have had those nutrients anyway. I hope everyone's Sunday proves as unsickly as possible! X

LucyHMK · 22/01/2017 11:34

Blondes there is no chance in all the world that I will do this again!! I love him dearly, but throwing up thousands and thousands of times is something I'll never ever forget. Particularly the cat incident! Ha 🙈
I never wet myself either, well done!

SociallyAcceptable if it is any consolation, I was sick at Buckingham Palace during the queen's 90th birthday party. They were so nice about it (thanks, Kate!). They let me carry around crackers in a ziplock baggy & a bottle of water. I went to give them to the police at the door & mentioned why I had them & one said 'like the duchess? Oh, we remember, you keep it on you' - judging by their faces I am not the first HG mama to vomit in BP!! She is my hero for doing it twice.

Anna I ditched the rest & took the Ondansetron. It was the only thing that helped at all anyway. Please don't worry about bubs, if they give it to the woman carrying the future king of England, you can be PDS that it's safe.

Thanks, Mellee & Pip I'm breast feeding, pumping & formula feeding about every 3 hours - it is miserable 😢 He has reflux & can keep down breastmilk the best so I'm desperately trying to increase it. Hard work.

Hope you're all okay today.

SociallyAcceptableCookie · 22/01/2017 12:05

Lucy that is such a nice Buckingham Palace story!

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/01/2017 12:24

Bless you LUCY. I rem the cat story. Was funny (sorry) I feel lucky that I haven't suffered as much as some but the first 4/14w grim. Then improved slightly. And again at 20w then have blips every few weeks

Tried cutting down medication and sick so staying on 3 cyczline a day

Reflux - is a bugger. Is he on medication? Ranitidine helps or omeprozole (sp) try cutting out dairy while bf. That often helps tho if formula has it in it prob won't do much diff you cutting it out

Well done for pumping and bf 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

LucindaE · 22/01/2017 13:12

Lucy and Melleebacca Just dashing on to answer your question. I am so sorry you are suffering after birth; yes, unfortunately that occasionally does happen - but it honestly will go away in time.
Of all the women on these threads for all these years, I have only known about five or six who have suffered for more than a day or two after birth. Guess who was one of the unlucky tiny minority? Yes, Mother Hen. Why some do I don't know - it does seem to be connected to having suffered badly throughout, with me as an exception, because I was much better by fifteen weeks.
It does go away in the end. Breast feeding did seem to trigger it in several of the cases sand those awful iron pills they put you on in you've had significant blood loss. It is very hard to bear because frankly, nobody believes you. They think, how can one have pregnancy sickness after giving birth.
Some women have found that the only way to get rid of it is to give up breast feeding onceameer was one of these.
I always find it a difficult balancing act. If I tell people there is a very small chance they will be still be ill for a few weeks after birth, it can be almost too much for them to bear. If I don't prepare people, they end up ill and with nowhere to turn as most sufferers tell the story of eating again normally within days, if not hours of the birth, though many find their stomachs have shrunk.
Are you still breast feeding?
Back soon.
