Morning ladies,

Bit if advice, I've got a slightly cold nothing major and if it wasn't for the breathlessness I'd be able to cope, however I'm struggling even with getting out of bed??
I'm only 20 weeks so it's not the baby, but reading online it says a lot of women get it in 2nd trimester. I can't remember it with my first & with my miscarriage the breathlessness happened 2 weeks after the baby died, but before I knew which I know isn't the issue here as had consultant Wed & she heard heartbeat fine, plus I can feel wiggling.

However yest & today, it's a struggle to do anything. Do you think I should be bothering the doctor? I'm not wheezing so don't think it's a. Best infection, but having to take double breaths??

INeedNewShoes · 06/01/2017 08:48

Sah - sorry you're feeling unwell.

Do you feel like your lungs are much smaller than they used to be so you can't take in enough air?

I had exactly this for a couple of weeks before Christmas and I found that it would pass as long as I managed to stay calm about it. Having said that, shortness of breath can be a sign of anaemia so if that might be an issue for you it might be worth contacting your GP.

fuzzywuzzy · 06/01/2017 08:49

Sah could you get a GP consultation over the phone? If you tell him your symptoms he could maybe suggest what to do?

Also try steam for opening sinuses, Vicks and drink lots of warm liquids. And frankly rest as much as possible, pregnancy makes you feel more rundown anyway.

Sah1987 · 06/01/2017 09:02

I might try to get one, my friend said it's normal I'm just panicking- which is making it worse. God I'm a hormonal mess. X

Badgerbird · 06/01/2017 12:00

sah that sounds unpleasant! As others have says best call gp but yes sometimes breathlessness is a sign you need more iron. I get a bit breathless and find the weird blood pumping round body sensation very strange indeed! Hope you can get it sorted.

nasch and lynsey that doesn't seem fair to get that far and suffer from sickness. I hope it eases for you both very soon and you managed to get a good nights sleep.

My friend brought round a bag of baby clothes for me that she has finished with, very kind of her however it's almost like I'm in denial??! We haven't bought 1 thing yet, I'm 20 weeks so feel there's plenty of time. I look at my tummy sometimes and go "are you really in there???" I'm guessing it's just self preservation but I'd like to feel more connection SadMaybe when I can feel her wiggling I will....

fuzzywuzzy · 06/01/2017 12:16

Badger I feel that too almost like I'm in denial right now just in case.

Put the baby clothes away for another ten weeks or so and then get them out when it feels real and you know it's definitely happening.

I felt a more clear poke this morning definitely not wind, felt like such a relief, turned 20 weeks today and have anomaly scan this afternoon.

Up till yesterday I was really trying not to panic myself as I couldn't feel anything clear like movement. Was shocked and relieved this morning. But it feels so unreal and I keep wanting more movement to confirm it has happened and I didn't imagine it.

LynseyH · 06/01/2017 13:26

So sorry a few of you are also struggling. This cold/flu bug is hitting a fair few people so maybe you have that sah but get checked out incase. It's rotten to be ill and pregnant together.
Not drinking water dino as the taste makes me feel more sick but keeping up with fluids via tea (decaf!) And cold drinks. I had a Google on the angelcare monitor at asda, the same one I bought is still showing at around £14 more than what I paid so not upset! I got the exact one that whatser recommended. I feel better just knowing I have it ready.

Midwife called in on me today (I was going to call her anyway due to feeling so rubbish) she has referred me for another growth scan as still not measuring big enough. When I had the kidney scan last week, they said baby has dropped slightly on growth but nothing to worry about, now this Confused can't have the scan til next week though as they leave it 2 weeks between growth scans. Although the last scan wasn't actually for growth, they still plotted it. Also now got protein in my urine so possibly have a water infection, midwife said that could be to blame for feeling off colour but not to worry about pre-eclampsia as blood pressure is fine...phew!!
Now just waiting to see if I need to go for another CTG trace as they like to do them if scans are further than 72 hrs away. What a roller coaster!!

INeedNewShoes · 06/01/2017 13:49

Lynsey - gosh nothing's straightforward, is it!? Sorry that things are so up and down. Good news about your blood pressure though!

Sorry if this has already been covered recently but can anyone suggest anything to relieve a sore throat? I'm about to have a cup of tea with honey in it but I'd appreciate any other suggestions.

I have no other symptoms whatsoever so I don't know what I'm dealing with - could be the start of a cold or could be a reaction to a scented candle I was given for Christmas and had lit on Tuesday. Its been a few days now though and its starting to piss me off!

LynseyH · 06/01/2017 14:00

newshoes my blood pressure rarely changes, even under stress I have only ever had low pressure, not high. Strange isn't it! I worked out earlier, this will be my 8th scan with this baby! That does include a reassurance scan, sexing scan and a 4d one though lol. The others were my 12 & 20 week one, 2 growth and the kidney fluid scan.

I can't help as such but I find if a sore throat is threatening or set in, having a halls soothers sweet as the very last thing you do before sleep helps more than you'd think. The bit of medicine they have in them works when your sleeping whereas in the day your swallowing more and they are rubbish then!

LynseyH · 06/01/2017 14:01

Oh forgot to add, I had a sore throat before Christmas, was convinced it was the start of a nasty cold but it actually amounted to nothing. I just felt a bit heavy and achy with it but pregnancy can do that anyway!

INeedNewShoes · 06/01/2017 14:12

Thanks Lynsey

Badger - until I started feeling my baby wriggling on a daily basis I was pretty much the same as you. But now with multiple reminders every day that there's a baby in there that needs preparing for I am feeling more positive.

I'm 22 weeks now and made my first purchase last week - a baby rocker (reduced to £19.99 from £70 so it had to be done!). I've also gained a playpen from Freecycle.

Just do things when you're ready. I refused any offers of baby things from friends before my 20-week scan.

Naschkatze · 06/01/2017 16:43

Oh, busy here today!

Dolerite ha, belly button is very flat and the top of it is starting to poke out... is it possible to get to the end without it popping out?!

Sah Sorry you're unwell, it's rubbish when pregnant. Hope you feel better soon.

At least they're on top of it Lynsey and keeping an eye on you and baby.

Hope the scan has gone well Fuzzy.

MoonlightMojitos · 06/01/2017 17:17

Urm, my belly button already came out... it wasn't very deep before I was pregnant to be fair but it came out a few days ago. I'm only 19 weeks :(. It really grosses me out and makes me feel all funny when it rubs on my top or whatever.

Thanks ladies, this time next week we will hopefully find out if everything is ok and if it's a girl or boy!

badger and fuzzy were all very close in dates and jpeg is a few weeks ahead. That's nice! Hope the scan went well fuzzy.

Sorry so many of you are feeling crap. I remember how horrid I felt with a cold at the beginning, it's horrible feeling so crap and not being able to take most the usual stuff and it's definately so much worse when pregnant! I've managed to avoid any more illness so far, fx.

LynseyH · 06/01/2017 17:30

My belly button started off poking out nasch but is now a full on outie! Did with my boys too but went back in everytime too!

What's everyone's view on paracetamol? Is it out of bounds for us pregnant ladies nowadays?

ImGonnaSingTheDoomSongNow · 06/01/2017 18:56

Hello all, I posted a little while ago but have been absent over Christmas etc.

Paracetamol is pretty much the only painkiller that is ok as far as I know newshoes! And for a sore throat try gargling with salt water, or if it's really bad TCP - absolutely disgusting but will kill any infection lurking there.
I've been furiously googling painkillers as I have the most horrendous back and hip pain and am dying to take ibuprofen and can't Sad
I'm only 9+4 and I feel like I am carrying a massive bump already, and in pretty much constant pain. Saw the GP today and she was useless, just said take regular paracetamol (pointless as doesn't touch the pain) and try deepheat.

Has anyone else had hip/lower back/rear pelvis pain in first trimester?

Am also mega bloated from iron tablets so look about 5mths already and feeling thoroughly shit.

ImGonnaSingTheDoomSongNow · 06/01/2017 19:12

Oh and Sah get your iron levels checked re the breathlessness as that's what sent me to the dr and I was anaemic when tested.

Whatsername17 · 06/01/2017 19:13

Paracetamol is absolutely fine. They gave me IV paracetamol in hospital which was amazing! I finished work today! I'm so happy! Really hope little miss doesn't keep.us waiting!

fuzzywuzzy · 06/01/2017 19:15

Need I had to take paracetamol as I had horrendous migraines at the beginning of my pregnancy if I took them early enough the migraines didn't take hold. I don't like taking anything but paracetamol is allowed and I take it if I have to.

For sore throat try gargling with crushed paracetamol. But I'd go docs in case it's something that needs antibiotics (why suffer?).

Imgonna I've had lower back pains from about 12 weeks, I've been diagnosed with SPD, im starting pregnancy Pilates classes this weekend and I've been referred to physiotherapy thro my GP. Midwife at 16 weeks check told me to just take paracetmol till pain got unbearable and I refuse to do that.

Also work has got me a balance ball chair to sit on which really really helps.

Mojitos thanks for asking, baby looks healthy and she's a little girl! I cried dp blinked really hard lol. I thought I was having a girl I dreamed I gave birth to a little girl. Dp wanted a boy as he has five sisters, I was worried he might be disappointed but he looked elated and tearful. Today I am so so so grateful after five miscarriages this is one of the best days ever.

MoonlightMojitos · 06/01/2017 19:47

newshoes I've had a headache nearly every day for 2 or 3 weeks now and been taking paracetamol as the midwife advised at my 16 week appointment when I asked.

Congrats fuzzy how amazing :) so glad all is ok 💗

Gingerbreadmam · 06/01/2017 19:48

Aww fuzzy thays lovely news!

I had terrible back and leg pain in my last pregnancy. Didnt end up taking anything for it but will definitely give paracetamol a try this time if it happens.

Alb1 · 06/01/2017 19:52

Sorry to see so many feeling unwell on here today, and lyndsey that all sounds very stressful, at least they are keeping a good eye on you and the baby though.

Thanks to everyone for being so nice the other day, I havnt been able to get hold of the bereavement midwife but I have booked a scan for Sunday morning at a proper medical place (rather than the cheaper scanning 'boutiques') to get some reassurance. Phoned the community midwife today to chase up my consultant appointment as I still hadn't heard anything and I'm at risk of missing the specialist fetal heart scan needed at 20 weeks as the consultant has to refer me for it, and my midwife phoned back to say it was a good job I asked because the hospital had lost all my notes again so I was never going to get my referral Sad I have such bad luck with them loosing my notes! Luckily they booked me straight in though so that's all sorted now.

Glad your scan went well fuzzy

purpleviolet1 · 06/01/2017 20:04

Aw that is so incredibly wonderful fuzzy! Really happy for you.

28 weeks today. Can't decide if I'm experiencing reduced movement or if the baby has just changed position. I can feel movement but seems lighter. If I concentrate I can feel subtle movements. Could be facing the other way. Will keep an eye.

The middle of my back is in agony. I've never experienced back pain here before. Any recommendations? It's driving me nuts. Thinking of putting one of those heat pads on it

It's been a week since I've had my cold now. Still a bit congested but generally better. I took paracetamol, boiling water with honey and black seed oil, also rubbed my threat with black seed oil and sucked on soothers. Rubbed Vicks on my chest and temples at night. Xx

Whatsername17 · 06/01/2017 20:07

Congrats fuzzy! Alb that is awful that they lost your notes! My belly button is that cavernous usually I could get as big as a house and it wouldn't pop out. My scar from my teenage belly piercing is a full inch above what looks like my belly button now which just goes to show how deep it is usually!

ImGonnaSingTheDoomSongNow · 06/01/2017 21:48

That's lovely news fuzzy hooray for good days! Grin
purple I hope all is well with the movements, like you say it's most likely baby has just changed positions.

The only thing working for my pain at the moment is a hot water bottle which is easing the ache somewhat. So I might have to get some of those heat pads you can stick to yourself as not really practical to walk round with hot water bottles strapped to the hips!

Midwife said to call her after 12 week scan (booked for 26th -so nervous) and she will refer me for physio but she can't do it before, I guess incase it's bad news? Which I am steeling myself for and trying not to let myself get too excited or think about future babyness.
