I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

I was the same in my last pregnancy - thought it was something I had to put up with and also couldn't get time off work to see the doctor anyway, and decided to hide it from work until 20 weeks Confused I threw up every day until I gave birth.

ImogenH97 · 26/11/2016 09:56

Peaceloveandbiscuit and blondeshavemorefun I am sorry to hear you have both gone through this horrible ideal I wouldn't wish it on anyone, how did you manage to cope??

user1477229112 · 26/11/2016 09:59

Hi Imogen I'm on my second pregnancy first with horrific hg really recommend early intervention with meds as soon as possible get yourself to gp. If you get dehydrated it end in a hospital admission, the only way I coped was long periods off work and medication none of the usual morning sickness tricks worked for me x

LucindaE · 26/11/2016 10:02

Sorry to hear about more Public Puking episodes, peaceloveandbiscuits .
I hope you and fourcorneredcircle are feeling better today.
Blondes Ha, Ha, so right about tmi. No restraints on here.
Imogen Do think about seeing a dr if it's really bad and do keep an eye out for dehydration - preferably by investing in those magic kesostix from a chemists - if you can't get in enough liquid it can spiral out of control fairly quickly, and ironically one of the symptoms is that you don't know how ill you are as you become a bit confused.
Waves to all. I'll be opening a new thread today. I do hope that all of Mother Hen's chicks find their way over!

Morning all. Scan all good.
One very healthy, very active 12 week and 3 day baby in there.
Although I have to admit to thinking "will you just bloody lie still, you're making me sick" BlushBlush
Got sick on the way there and she did say my bladder was empty but it didn't matter.
Weirdly, I've felt ok since then.....
Managed to eat a proper meal last night and it stayed down.

So fingers crossed I might get a healthy few days.

Sneezypeasy · 26/11/2016 10:56

Aaah! The effort of a shower followed by a trip to GP was clearly too much for me yesterday - was sick last night and again this morning. Feel really rough, but ketones still fine.

Thanks Lucinda, luckily I can listen to radio, radio 4 is keeping me (somewhat) sane at the moment.

Congratulations on your scan boobs glad it went well.

Welcome Imogen, sorry to hear you are feeling so awful, I agree with all the others, get yourself to your GP next week and be honest about how ill you feel. Congratulations on your pregnancy though - it helps to remember there is a happy reason for all of this, especially in these early weeks when we have no scan pictures or little kicks to remind ourselves that there is a baby there!

MotherofPearl · 26/11/2016 11:13

Sorry you're still sick Sneezy. R4 is a godsend isn't it? I usually have it on, and it kept me good company all the way through HG.
Boobs, congratulations on a good scan! Hope the improvement lasts.
It's my DS's 5th birthday today, and I have family staying, with more descending this afternoon and tomorrow, so am going to be a bit distracted, but will look out for the new thread so I can place-mark.

TwoDrifters · 26/11/2016 11:37

I listened to back-to-back Just A Minute episodes throughout my pregnancy. So much so that MiniDrifter still responds to Nicholas Parsons' dulcet tones even now! Grin

However, recent Clement Freud revelations have somewhat marred the whole experience for me. Not sure I can continue to listen to the older episodes Sad

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/11/2016 11:47

nichito · 26/11/2016 11:53

Hello everyone,

Need to vent. I'm about 9 and a half weeks and suffering from hyperemesis, just like my mother did!

It has varied in intensity but a bog standard day is crippling nausea from the moment I wake up, some midday vomiting (no let up from the nausea of course) and some extreme vomiting in the evening, usually a dozen or so times until it's all bile. On bad days, fluids won't stay down. Have dropped weight pretty swiftly.

Have been tried on cyclizine and prochlorperizine (Stemetil) with zero success, so arranged a call from the GP to discuss other options.

And what did the useless heap of toss say?

"Have you tried ginger biscuits?"

And, even better:

"Try to keep things down."

Which of course infers that if you're vomiting incessantly, one possible explanation is that you're simply not making enough of an effort.

I was and am so incensed that he's lucky he escaped with his life, TBH.

I walked around on a fractured femur for half a decade, I am about the furthest thing from a drama llama that could feasibly exist in this respect. And they are very well aware of this. They've even commented on eerie levels of pain threshold, stoicism etc.

Why do they treat us like children as soon we're pregnant? Sad

ImogenH97 · 26/11/2016 12:04

Nichito we can get through this together, worst feeling in the world but being in a support group is amazing gotta keep thinking their is something good at the end even tho we can't see an end at the minute.
Blondeshavemorefun I am really glad you were asleep and seem to be still having a rough time just think your nearly there now not long until you get that little one out so you know the gender?
Sneezypeasy thankyou for your kinds words and your advice that really did touch me.

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/11/2016 13:50

Imogen. No the little bugger refuses to turn and reveal self. Had 4 scans now from 20w to observe as also need to measure heart

Back Monday and I have had stern words with bubs to say roll over 😁😁

23w so 17w to go. Maybe 16w

Nich - didn't you know ginger stuff helps morning sickness - not bloody hg 😡😡😡😡

We understand your frustration

MotherofPearl · 26/11/2016 14:24

Nichito, that is why threads like this exist! So many HCPs are living the dark ages when it comes to treating pregnancy sickness. Please look at the Pregnancy Sickness Support website for lots of detailed information about medication options. Many find Ondansetron the best.
Ginger! FFS! It drives me crazy and I'm not even pg anymore!

ICanTuckMyBoobsInMyPockets · 26/11/2016 14:35

Someone at work, I have no idea why, I didn't ask for advice, said "have you tried ginger biscuits?"

I remained silent. I just raised my eyebrows.

"Yes I suppose you probably have at this stage, huh huh. Anyway, must dash, lots to do"

She's lucky I didn't swat the coffee out of her hand.

ICanTuckMyBoobsInMyPockets · 26/11/2016 14:36

We're going to need a new thread soon!

peaceloveandbiscuits · 26/11/2016 15:41

TwoDrifters I know exactly what you mean re JAM. Clement was one of my favourite players.

LightTripper · 26/11/2016 16:32

Welcome Imogen and Nichito! Sorry to see you here but it did keep me sane through the worst times, it's an amazing group.

Nichito it's good we don't know who your GP is or we would all be outside with pitchforks. Do you have other GPs at your surgery you could talk to? Or do try the PSS phone line at the top of the thread as Mother of Pearl said. They have a list of helpful practitioners.

Really glad to see you had a good scan Boobs. Waves to everyone else.

LucindaE · 26/11/2016 18:57

Before opening new the new thread (and then trudging off to Buckinghamshire for a few days) I just wanted to say -
Nichito Welcome. Goodness, what idiotic comments from your GP.
I hope that is 12 heaves , not 12 separate vomiting sessions? How are liquids staying down? Are you checking for dehydration - I don't know if this is your first Hyperemesis pregnancy or not, so I have to ask. Do you find the juice of tinned fruit, flat coke or ice lollies any good?
Blondes Good luck with the party.
ICanTuck Great news about scan.
TwoDrifters Lovely to hear from you. Interesting what babies can hear in there.
MOP Happy Birthday to DS! Star
Waves to LightTripper Imogen and everyone.

Can I join you ladies.

I've been reading sporadically and one of the ladies from the same antenatal group recommended posting here.

My first post is going to be a self pitying one.

I've been really unwell since Thursday evening, violent vomiting (I'm used to vomiting, as still taking anti emetics, but this was a whole new level) which ended up with me being admitted to hospital where I was given an injection of buccastem.

This was meant to stop the vomiting for at least 12 hours but the reality was I ended up being sick again less than 3 hours after the injection. Each time I was sick I ended up wetting myself which was highly embarrassing and added to the indignity I was feeling.

Fast forward to this morning and I started to suffer with diarrhoea which was tinged with fresh blood and painful stomach cramps. So it was back to hospital where I have narrowly escaped being admitted to be rehydrated via a drip.

I'm so over this pregnancy already and not even in the third trimester yet. I only managed 2 days at work this week as had been signed off due to pelvic girdle pain for the previous 2 weeks. I went back to work on Wednesday only to have to call in sick on Friday. Actually Dh had to call in on my behalf as I was so ill I could barely string 2 words together.

I feel utterly miserable and keep bursting into tears. I feel like I've become a shadow of my former self and guilty because I barely spend anytime at all with my 4 year old son or dh.

LucindaE · 26/11/2016 19:29

NoisyLittleLion Welcome. Poor you. You'll find lots of support on here.
Have you invested in keostix to keep an eye on that dehydration - available from any chemists? Sips of flat coke, ice cubes, ice lollies, and the juice of tinned fruit plus sips of chocolate milkshake and Elderflower water have helped women on here in trying to take in liquids.
What meds do they have you on now? Sorry, I seem to have missed that.
I'm also sorry that I have to usher you over to a new thread, as there' s no room left on this.
I hope this link comes out...

This thread helped me during some of my weakest moments and I just had to write to share my story.

My Hyperemesis started at 6 weeks, and escalated to me being taken to the hospital 9 days later. I was given Cyclizine (which did nothing for me) and Metoclopramide which helped with the most intense nausea but caused very strange side effects (not being able to sleep, muscle spasms).

The reason I wanted to share my story is because I was convinced the Hyperemesis would last for months because of all of the stories I have read, and mine disappeared at 9 weeks! I still get nauseous throughout the day and I make sure my stomach is full throughout the day. I can finally walk, shower, and have even made it back to work.

I feel for each and every one with you because I understand the suffering this causes and the need to give up. I was in so much agony that I was considering terminating the pregnancy!

Please do not give up and Hyperemesis can ease up quickly!!! I'm 10 weeks now and would say i'm 80% myself again. One day you will wake up and be able to eat, drink and everything will go back to normal!! xx

LightTripper · 28/11/2016 13:54

Hi dimples - thanks for your story - it just goes to prove that every case is different! So glad you are feeling much better now. This thread is nearly full, so if you want to chat more you can find us here:

Sulkypatsy · 18/02/2020 14:22

Hi ladies, I've read some of this thread, I guess I'm posting in the hopes of getting some advice and solidarity with others suffering, I'm 9w6d, been horrifically sick since six weeks. I out up with it as best as I can but I'm totally shattered the past two days. My GP has given me stemetil, not very effective, I often just throw it up. And now cariban to take in alternate doses with the stemetil but I'm still sick. Today I was puking so hard that I've wet myself, I'm just totally defeated, I had got sick and pee on myself and was so weak and tired that the thought of showering made me cry. I can't face eating anything, I've no desire even though my tummy is rumbling, but even when I force myself to eat it doesn't help. Even when I'm not vomiting I'm intensly nauseous and have a horrible headache. Can anyone suggest anything that helped them? I'll try anything.
