I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

picksie I would take another test, as you should be getting a positive result by now I would say.
Fi first morning urine for strongest result.
If no joy and you are still unwell see the GP next week. X

MotherofPearl · 19/11/2016 13:00

Welcome back Iamserious, although sorry to hear you've had such an awful few weeks. You've really been through the mill. Your obs consultant sounds very wise about medication for pregnant women. Do you mind me asking about your jobs? That sounds exhausting; is there any way you could scale things back?
Picksie, as others have said, best bet is to head for your GP and ask for a blood test, which will give you a definitive result.
Peace, so sorry your DS is still suffering. Really the last thing you need. Hope you manage to get some rest this weekend.
Four, you sound really low. You have all my sympathy: HG is the very worst. I hope it won't sound glib to say this, but would it help to think that this time next year you'll have your beautiful baby, who'll already be several months old, you'll be back to normal, and full of the excitement of your baby's first Christmas? It was thinking ahead to specific times in the future and looking forward to them that really helped me, about this time last year. You will get there.
Hope everyone is having a restful Saturday.

Sneezypeasy · 19/11/2016 13:39

Thanks Blondes, I think you may have inadvertently found me a silver lining - I am so dehydrated that I don't wake in the night for a wee (ketones fine though, so not that bad).

Iamserious I think you may be right, I tried to take pills on an empty stomach, will make sure I eat a little breakfast before taking them tomorrow.

I have managed to eat and drink this morning and keep it down so far. I don't think I have full HG, but still mostly in bed with the nausea.

Just having a rubbish few days with vomiting alongside my usual nausea, 10 weeks now so hoping this is the peak.

DS is really struggling with me not being well, I feel like a terrible Mummy.

LHReturns · 19/11/2016 15:03

Hi all!

Sorry for silence...busy time with my mother here for a week (she lives in Caribbean and believes morning sickness is largely in the mind. She may be killed in the next few days).

Shirley hi there! I am now 12+2 (had my 12 week scan two days ago which was lovely and confirmed another boy - yee hah, that was my ideal dream).

Anyway I have made all the same mistakes this week. Started to feel much brighter especially in the morning. Started really playing with the Ondansetron (in vain hope of reducing the constipation) and has really set me back. Was up vomiting three times last night and feel awful today.

My other mistake is having taken advantage of feeling a bit better to actually DO some stuff (met a friend for late breakfast after scan, took DS to Waitrose, played in the garden with dogs). I would never have tried this before - and now I am also paying the price. I don't seem able to do very much if I want to keep on top of this.

I hope there are better days to come. My current plateau is not anywhere near acceptable.

Hello Sneazy - really DO take comfort knowing it is VERY unlikely to get any worse now you have hit 10 weeks.

Four sending you big hugs - you and I started here at the same time and I see you as my HG buddy. This is such a marathon isn't it? I don't know how we have even made it this far.

Hugs to Blondes, your cheeky baby, and your teenage bladder. BIATCH. You wait until you have had a baby then let's get you on the trampoline.

Wishing you all a lovely (or manageable) weekend.

Sneezypeasy · 19/11/2016 16:09

Thanks LH I will try to keep reminding myself if that, 10 weeks has been worse than the dreaded 9 weeks for me, but hopefully will ease soon.

Sorry I have been a bit miserable today, I completely forgot to congratulate you on lovely scan picture and news that you are having a boy!

CastleFeck · 19/11/2016 17:40

Hello all,

those of you in the 10-12 week bit, it does slowly improve I've found. I've done the same with doing too much. Had a few days feeling great in week 15, did insane things like cleaning and shopping then spent days feeling like total crap as I'd done too much.

Lh would be interesting if you used HG as a defence in a murder trail, hope you don't need it.

Peace and Four hope you're both feeling better tomorrow.

Argh can't remember anything else, but send everyone gentle non vommy thoughts.

CastleFeck · 19/11/2016 17:40

Trial even

peaceloveandbiscuits · 19/11/2016 17:44

Was sick twice today, and generally nauseated, but no idea whether this is the stomach bug or just my usual?! I figure I would feel really unwell if it was the bug, and wouldn't have been able to go to Sainsbury's this afternoon even though it almost killed me.

LucindaE · 19/11/2016 17:54

Picksie Sorry to hear you feel unwell. I can only echo the others in urging you to take a test. If it is positive, and you do develop bad pregnancy sickness, do come back for support.
IAmSeriousAndDon'tCallMeShirley Lovely to have you back.So sorry we lost you. Sorry to hear of sick family and your being in hospital. Cyber hugs on offer. Can you possibly cry off being on call, maybe with a sick note? It sounds too much for you to handle atm. Those tinned peaches are a lifesaver!
Blondes Good advice about another way to take melon.
LH Returns You must try and emulate a Victorian pregnant women of the 'genteel classes' and lie on a sofa in a flowing gown Grin. I so agree about Blonde's enviable 'teenage bladder'! I have never been able to do Star jumps without a few drops escaping since giving birth Blush.
fourcorneredcircle It is such a lonely condition. Again, I can only echo others in saying that it is so miserable to miss festivities in the festive season, but this will seem like a distant nightmare next year. Then, it'll be baby's first Christmas! You probably expect too much of yourself, too.
SqueezyPeasy I f you can see the tablets in the vomit, it's usually safe to take some more. Much sympathy that you feel so foul and lets hope that things gradually start to improve soon. Your LO won't remember this period of comparative neglect; and he'll have a companion, which is a priceless gift.
peacelove It's so hard to say what is what with this. Sympathies on a grim day, and congratulations on making the supermarket. I hope poor LO is a bit better too.
castlefeck There is always that tempation to overdo it. Hope you feel have recovered from overdoing it.
Waves to MotherofPearl and LightTripper and everyone. Cyber pats on offer to anyone at the worst stage/feeling really down.

LHReturns · 19/11/2016 18:10

Squeezy my obstetric physician who has been specifically treating my HG says if I am sick at any point within an hour of taking my meds, I should take them again. I have found that timing is everything!!

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/11/2016 19:22

Be grateful you don't wake for a pee 😬 I may have a good bladder but think it's years of working nights and peeing at 3am once fed baby - that wakes me up at home as well on nights off

Tho most preg woman wake up in the night for a wee so maybe you are dehydrated and should drink more

Or set alarm on phone 3/4am and have tablet by bed with a glass of water. Swallow and gulp and go back to sleeep and mornings should be easier

Lh - I believe hg and sleep deprevation is a good alibi /reason for murder 😂

Apart from that I'm proud of my teenage bladder 😇

IAmSeriousAndDontCallMeShirley · 19/11/2016 19:33

Ooo- a busy day on the thread. I took my daughter to a birthday party which was great- but I'm now completely wiped out! Still I managed not be be sick on or in front of anyone today so I'll take that as a win!

MoP and Lucinda. I work for the NHS as an Ops manager. So I'll be the general manager on call. You have to sort out any disasters (which are frequent and varied). Last time I had a flood, sewage leak, power cut, CT failure, A&E crisis, Ambulance divert, all the phones went down, and we had no beds... I'm praying for a simpler week!
My manager is pretty keen that I do the on call, and I would feel pretty bad if someone had to do extra- as it's not a pleasant job. So keeping everything crossed for a quiet week all round!
And yes yes yes to the Ines peaches- they are nectar sent straight from heaven.
Have been reading through both of your advice for others- it's always so lovely and spot on. Smile
Hope that you are both doing well?

LH my goodness you have a brace mother, mine would be 6 feet under if she even whispered anything like that...!
Huge congratulations on the scan, and amazing to know it's a bit for early. Really exciting news Grin
I know what you mean about trying to do too much- it's such an easy trap to fall into. When you feel a bit more normal you want to get back to doing normal things.

sneezy I hope you continue to improve, it's so hard when you have another little one to consider. Be kind to yourself, you can only do what you can do- and it won't always be this bad. You'll have good days too. Flowers

Waving to everyone else and hoping you have all had good starts to the weekend. Xx

LightTripper · 19/11/2016 19:43

Hello all! Just popping on to wave and send hugs. Business trip went well, though had some very early nights and glad to be home. Having a slightly retch evening which is annoying, but just about to cook supper while OH puts DD to bed, so hopefully that will help.

Hope everyone who's been suffering has a slightly easier weekend!

LHReturns · 19/11/2016 20:17

Totally second Blondes with the middle of the night alarm to take a tablet before the morning hell hits. I don't need to set an alarm because I wake writhing in nausea at some point between 3am and 5am. I immediately take a tablet (or two) and eat a banana. I then have some chance of getting back to sleep.

'Wake to eat a banana'. If I said that to any other audience they would think I was absolutely barmy.

RobberBride · 19/11/2016 20:21

LH congratulations on the scan and NIPT results, that's fantastic news!

Thanks to Happydays for the tip about the gel headbands, my headaches have been more bearable this week thanks to them.

People liking really cold fruit and melon - you probably know this, but most supermarkets do frozen fruit. This www.tesco.com/groceries/product/details/?id=291855764 has melon, mango, papaya and pineapple. I leave some out of the freezer for about 40 mins, so it is still really cold but not frozen solid. It helps on bad days.

Sneezy weeks 10 and 11 were the worst for me. I'm at the end of week 12 and there have been entire hours this week when I have felt like a human being. I even biked (!) to a pilates class (!) today and only felt sick after 40 mins. Thankfully it was a pregnancy pilates class, so very gently and ended at 50 mins.

Like everyone else, I regret it if I do too much. Regretting the pilates class now!

fourcorneredcircle · 19/11/2016 22:14

A little bit of a better day today, thanks for all your kind words. Flowers I will try and focus on next year... it's a long game :)

I tried frozen fruit today (I'd forgotten I had some frozen fruit in!) mango and melon. Very nice... and the first successful fruit intake in six weeks! Thanks for the idea all.

PowerofThree · 20/11/2016 14:30

Hello, how is everyone doing? I hope that some of you are feeling some relief from the symptoms. I have been on antibiotics and cyclizine for 5 days - seemed to be getting better on Friday but then felt dreadful yesterday. Have been to OOH GP who did a test which came back negative for a UTI so he said I should stop the antibiotics and prescribed metoclopromide. Took the first tablet of that but still vomited afterawrds. Not sure what to make of it as have one dr saying that the nausea and sickness is unlikely to be pregnancy related and blaming a UTI and one saying it is pregnancy related. All the time, I am failing to keep meals down and losing weight - though thankful I am managing to keep liquids down. I'm supposed to be going away next Saturday as well - one of these group tour type things so that isn't going to be fun at this rate...

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/11/2016 14:34

all good here, finally enjoying being pregnant ......

havnt been sick since last sat so 7days , whoop,so am shattered

im still dithering whether to drop a pill and go to 2 cyczline as seems im over the worst but everytime i do im then sick again

CastleFeck · 20/11/2016 15:42

Power sounds like pregnancy sickness,it's been going on a while hasn't it?

Blondes fab news on your improvement. I switch between 2 and three tabs a day depending on if I need one at 1ish. Otherwise I take them at 6am and 3pmish.

I've had three pretty good days. Only a bit of retching if I haven't eaten. I'm still glad when every day is over though. This is a bit like labour except it's days not contractions.

LucindaE · 20/11/2016 17:15

Blondes and Castlefeck Congratulations on improvement, and long may it continue!
Iam Even so, I do think - sure MotherofPearl agrees, that you aren't well enough to deal with such a workload; it sounds stressful enough at the best of times! How are things today?
RobberBride That's a good frozen fruit tip!
HappyDays That sounds a good idea. My own migraines didn't improve with cold - my osteopath recommended first cold then hot compresses, but it didn't help much; I'm glad it is helping others.
fourcorneredcircle It is indeed a long haul and I hope you seem some improvement asap.
PowerofThree Sorry that you are getting such conflicting advice. I'm glad you are retaining liquids. Do do as I say, not as I did, and go back to ask for more meds if the cyclizine isn't helping much with the nausea, making an appointment with the dr who believes it's pregnancy sickness. I 'm certainly not medically trained, but I have had UTI's on many occasions, and have only known them to cause nausea when the infection is really bad and you are feverish and it reaches the kidneys, so I can't help thinking the dr saying it's a uti is wrong.
Bossy Mother Hen says do invest in some kesostix just in case things take a turn for the worse and you need to check for dehydration.
Waves to LH Returns and everyone.
Apologies if I've cross posted, rudely ignored anyone...

Sneezypeasy · 20/11/2016 18:07

Not had a great day today. It was DS's birthday party this morning, I managed to sit up on sofa for whole thing, was nice to see friends as haven't spoken to people for ages. Plus DS had a lovely time, which was most important thing.

But I lost my breakfast beforehand, lunch afterwards and then got so upset in the middle of the afternoon that I cried myself sick. So haven't kept anything down at all today, even medication.

At least I know that my lying in bed all day has actually been helping me to keep food down.

Going to speak to GP tomorrow, though they seem pretty reluctant to give me anything stronger.

Sneezypeasy · 20/11/2016 19:08

Just checked for ketones, ketosticks went dark very quickly, somewhere between ++ and +++, couldn't decide which, DH thought +++ but that was way after 15 seconds.

Do I need to do anything now or just tell GP tomorrow?

I can't seem to find any information about what to do if I do find ketones in urine.

LucindaE · 20/11/2016 19:24

Sneezypeasy Unfortunately, 3+ ketones are usually the level at which they admit for fluids. Might be worth phoning your out of hours for advice as you are so near that level?

OP posts:
babyand · 20/11/2016 19:41

Hi guys

I survived the two toddlers Friday but completely wiped out since. So so tired. The nausea is still pretty bad but I know it would be worse without the cariban.

I'm useless with names but I was told last week in hospital that 3+ ketones require fluids.

Hugs to everyone feeling crap. All I have said all weekend is NEVER AGAIN!! And I really mean it. If god forbid something goes wrong this pregnancy my lg will be going it alone!
