I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Gro bag not fry 🙄

RaeSkywalker · 10/10/2016 21:49

Light I am suffering in cold misery tonight too! So groggy. Grumpy because can't take anything. Grrr.

Serious poor you. I actually think that the nausea can be worse than vomiting.

Sleepy I am so pleased for you. Did you feel instantly better? I can'5 imagine eating normal again! Mat leave doesn') start until the 7th of November. Baby is due on the 20th. I have lots of holiday to use incase HG peaks again though. So sorry to worry you all!

Fox poor you Sad being admitted was the best thing that happened to me, it stabilised the HG. I hope you get some relief soon.

Blondes bring sick in the shower is the worst! How are you now?

RaeSkywalker · 10/10/2016 21:50

Blondes hearing the heartbeat is magic isn't it!

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/10/2016 22:59

Yes sick in shower must be the worst

I'm a coop carrier bag girl 😱😉 or toilets

This evening I was sick. First time for days and relived as know baby is ok

So lovely to hear heart again , think it's 3rd time

FoxMulder · 11/10/2016 09:48

Thanks everybody, I'm Defford calling PSS today. And getting out of bed. Already been sick once today.

FoxMulder · 11/10/2016 09:49

*deffo

LightTripper · 11/10/2016 12:37

Good luck Fox, let us know how you get on.

And hope your cold is better soon Rae. I have sucked the odd locket when my throat has been really bad, as they seem to be just sugar - but they don't really do much and leave a horrible taste in my mouth so I'm not sure it's really worth it.

Really glad you heard the heartbeat Blondes! Less happy to hear about the being sick. Hopefully soon the sickness will be gone and you'll be able to feel baby move for the best of both worlds.

NerrSnerr · 11/10/2016 14:23

Hello can I join too? I'm 13 weeks and have had sickness since about 6 weeks. I have been signed off work for the last 4 weeks and am on cyclazine but It's not working as well anymore and I have already been sick 4 times today. Just so fed up, I have no idea when I will be able to go back to work as I can't drive further than about 3 miles without having to pull over and vomit. I'm going back to the GP on Thursday to see if there's anything else they can offer have a cry.

MotherofPearl · 11/10/2016 18:34

Sorry for falling behind! Lots of new joiners I see.
Welcome Nerr, and sorry to hear you've had such a rough time. Don't worry about how long you need to be signed off for - you can't work in that state. Good to hear you're going back to the GP to ask for different meds; there are lots of options.
Fox, how did you get on with ringing PSS? Hope they could give some guidance about what to do next.
Serious, how are you now, after showergate? When I was suffering I'm afraid I went days without showering, and took about 2-3 baths a week instead. Even just dragging myself into and out of the bath felt like a huge effort and left me exhausted.
Blondes, nice to hear about the heartbeat, although sorry the sickness has come back. Although often a few good days in a row is the start of an improvement, even if you do still end up having the odd bad day.
Rae, you poor thing, I really do feel for you. You must be nearly on your knees by this point. Just a few weeks until the start of mat leave: hang in there, you have been heroic getting through it and still making the effort to support others when you're feeling so dreadful.
Sleepy, thanks for your kind words. I'm afraid my babies have all been the same: they all ended up co-sleeping next to me. I follow all the safety advice but I know it's frowned on and not for everyone. It's worked well for us though (and I love having DD2 snuggled up near me!).
I hope everyone is managing OK today. Big waves to Lucinda, Light, Happy and anyone I've sadly neglected.

IAmSeriousAndDontCallMeShirley · 11/10/2016 19:09

Hi mother shower gate was awful. But I have rave it since.y hair needs washing daily or it's gross! I often feel bad in the shower, perhaps it's the heat or tilting my head back?

I have continued to feel extremely rough. Just about managing to choke the cyclazine down, which is helping a bit but not enough.
We had a hospital appointment for my daughter today and the GP couldn't accommodate me around it sadly. So trying again tomorrow. It's one of those practices where you have to call at 8 each day for appointments.

Can i ask you all another question? How long did you need off work (if at all..) due to HG. I have been off for a week now and expect that I'll be off for the rest of this week too. I have a 2 hour commute and stressful full-on job and am just too sick to even get there let alone be any good at work.
I also haven't told my boss yet (I only came back from mat leave a month ago). I wanted to tell my boss in person why I'm off, but it's getting awkward now having to be all vague. What would you do in my position?

We are also undergoing a massive restructure and I'm worried I will be disadvantaged if hey know. But hard to hide when you are this sick...
sorry for the ramble. Xx

NerrSnerr · 11/10/2016 19:17

Thank you mother. Reading back through this thread has been really helpful, I was poorly in my last pregnancy but can't remember how long it went on for.

Iamserious I am in my forth week off work at the moment, i can't drive far without being sick and I'm in no state to work. I told my manager early as I had to run out of some meetings.

LucindaE · 11/10/2016 19:48

Nerrsherr Welcome. Sorry you feel so foul. I'm glad you are going back to ask for more meds. As others' say, there are several alternatives. Did you have it as badly in your first pregnancy? As you're a veteran, you won't need advice from me about ice lollies and kesostix. I hope it eases for you soon.
You are in the thick of it at the moment, almost nobody suffers as badly later on as in the first part.
Rae I so agree that you are great the way you always give support, though exhausted, probably overdoing it and feeling terrible. And now you have a cold! Much sympathy.
Blondes Sorry, I missed the puking in shower episode. I had to smile at your 'I'm a Co-op bag girl myself...' line. Glad you had reassurance about heartbeat.
Foxmulder Did you get onto PSS? How are you?
IamSerious I'm not sure what to advise about what to tell your boss- but I do know they can't by law discriminate against you for being off with a pregnancy related illness.
LightTripper How are you today? redjumper autumn Lucy and everyone?
Waves to lovely MotherofPearl.

MotherofPearl · 11/10/2016 19:48

Serious, I was off work for all of my first trimester, from about wk 6 when the sickness began, until about wk 12/13. It was pretty much this time last year (DD2 is 5 months old now). After that, the only reason I could go back was that I could work from home a lot. I only needed to go in about once a week, which was lucky as like you, I have a 2 hour commute each way. But I'm an academic, so my hours are pretty flexible, which helps. I told my boss straight away, but asked her to keep it confidential - other than having to tell HR. I really don't think it's possible to work with HG, at least not until the very worst phase has passed. You just need to rest. I'd advice getting your GP to sign you off for at least the next 2 weeks, and then see how you go. As and when you do go back, HR should offer you a phased return, and should have a conversation with you about how to make work manageable for you, e.g. can you do some days from home? can you use annual leave to book one day off a week to rest? The PSS website has some good info for employees and employers.
I hope you get to see your GP soon. Are you testing for ketones? If no luck with GP, do you have an EPU nearby that you can self- refer to? That would be best, ime. Sorry for essay-like response!

IAmSeriousAndDontCallMeShirley · 11/10/2016 20:05

Thank you Nerr and lucinda, I know I'm not well enough to go in. But the guilt is getting to me. I hope you feel better soon Nerr- sounds like you are having a dreadful time of it.

mother thank you for the detailed reply. It's a total minefield. I think I might be best to talk to my boss on the phone and explain sooner rather than later. So hard when you don't know when you will feel and better or find the right Meds.
I think my local hospital has an EPU, by its all rathe complicated as I have been referred out of area for all antenatal care due to a heart condition. So local hospital is part of a different trust.

I have ordered some ketostix to keep an eye.

Do coop make particularly sturdy bags? Wink I have been using airline sickbags (a godsend!) for when I have to venture out on the car. X

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/10/2016 20:18

Tripper. - lost lunch today 😢 but yah bubs is ok

Neer welcome. I've got the puking in the car down to a tee. Bag on lap and driving as there up on motorway and nowhere to stop /pull over easily

Coop 10p bags No holes / boning worse then being sick and removing bag and on lap /knees .,,,,.

Serious - not needed time off work BUT only as work nights so can cope with that as spend in bed till noon/1pm keeping still and quiet

If I had a day job then probably would have had 6/8w off as felt so crap no way I could have got up at 6/7am and worked

Coop bags are the best as big so all sick easily gets in the bag - driving etc

Try and make a toilet but not always possible

R.E.M. Leaving pizza express and walking to my car and thought shit Gonna be sick - so pulled out coop bag from handbag and puked in it along high street

Classy bird me 😂😂😂😂😂

LucyHMK · 12/10/2016 01:15

Hello all.

I'm having real problems posting on this thread so have been lurking away.

I've been sick everywhere too, frequently in the shower, but I think the winner still has to be on the cat. Poor thing. IKEA freezer bags are my favourite as they fold small. I was sick at Buckingham Palace in one of those! Ah, lovely!

I'm back to feeling pretty rubbish. Still on full meds but feeling worse. Only have a few weeks of work left, thank goodness.

To answer the work question, I've had two separate full weeks off, but that's it. I've worked at home on days where it's been really bad.

Welcome to all the new people. Big dork that I am I was very excited by the Xfiles reference there, good name!

Hope everyone else is asleep & not also wide awake trying not to vomit 😥

FoxMulder · 12/10/2016 09:38

Glad you like the name Lucy Grin I couldn't believe no one had taken it before me!

PSS said I should go to the GP straight away to test for ketosis and see about being referred to hospital for steroid injections. I've spoken to the doctors this morning and she has said to drop off a urine sample (DH will do) and that she is talking to the pregnancy team and will call me back.

I'm on my 3rd week off work. Awkward because I haven't told my boss I'm pg and they'll be guessing because the last time I was off work was the last time I was pregnant.

CastleFeck · 12/10/2016 12:36

Hi everyone.

Screens not agreeing with me so only a quick hello. Every time I've reduced my meds I've gone back again and needed 3 metochlopromide a day.

I'm 13 weeks, feeling better am, worse pm and up half the night.

LucyHMK · 12/10/2016 13:10

The problem I have with skipping doses is that I'm quite unwell for about 48 hours afterwards. I'd only recommend doing it if you know you'll be able to take it a bit easier the day afterwards as it's not nice. I skip a dose every fortnight now & last time I wasn't horribly ill straight away (the effect is usually quick), but I was unwell for the next few days.

If it's any consolation to those that have just joined & may have read what I've written; being as ill as I have for as long as I have is very unusual. Most cases of HG go by around 20 weeks, so try not to panic. You'll be surprised with what you can handle once you get used to feeling/being so sick. I can now cope with being sick & working full time, it does get easier to manage, I promise. Still sulking about the alopecia though!

One important thing to mention to those that haven't read it already is to avoid teeth brushing after you've been sick for about half an hour. Just wash your mouth out with water. You don't want to brush the acid into your teeth.

Blondeshavemorefun · 12/10/2016 13:57

Lucy. Poor thing. Sounds extreme. Glad mines mild compared to many on here

Mild is enough !!!!

Fox hope you get injection

I've got ketones testing strips at home now to keep eye on it. I'm usually 2 is

Castle. Keep on 3 a day if seems to stop sickness

Gp told me 14/20/40w improvement.

I seem to be in the 14 camp

Tho sick last two days but I have dropped down to 2 a day for a few days

So gone back to 3

Just off for 16w scan. Can't wait to see and hear bubs again 💓💓

IAmSeriousAndDontCallMeShirley · 12/10/2016 17:44

Good evening all.

I had a very confusing GP appointment today.

She told me I can't take the cyclazine and the under lip tablets together. Other GP had said that was fine?

She also said I couldn't have injection today because I had already taken cyclazine and you can't have both? Again, not what previous GP said.

She's asked me to come back tomorrow as clinically dehydrated and she wants to give me injection. If ketones are up then she sending me in for fluids.

So confused! Have others been given these combinations? Worried about the fact I mixed them a few times to try and get some fluid down me. Hoping I haven't done any damage. X

LucindaE · 12/10/2016 20:28

Iamserious As they are both meant to be safe for baby, I find it hard to believe that you could have done any damage there. Maybe they meant an overdose for you? It might be worth ringing the surgery and stating your worry just for reassurance, or for advice or the PSS number above; I'm sure they can reassure you as one doctor thought it was OK.
Blondes How did scan go? Did you say your ketones were back to three, that's not good? On recepticles for Public Puking, bins were my specialty, as they didn't have lids on the ones in my then area of London then. Lucy Cat's often get it! One women on one of these threads puked on her OH's shoes.
Lucy You deserve a medal for battling in to work when so ill. Sorry you are still suffering.
foxmulder I am glad your GP is taking it seriously.
castlefeck Sorry to hear of those awful nights. Remind me what meds you are on?
MotherofPearl Very good advice about work.
Sorry if I've ignored anyone.

LightTripper · 12/10/2016 21:40

Nappy bags are also very handy for being sick in. Fold up really small, no holes, tie handles, super cheap!

LucyHMK · 12/10/2016 23:50

This particular line of conversation is making me chuckle - 'recommended bags for public puking'. It's a good job I can still laugh about it all!

Unlike someone 😿 It's her own fault for liking such stinky food, I think. That and the time where she ate the sick and watching it made me sick on her. Worst morning ever. Grim creature!! Honestly.

I have to see the dentist tomorrow, though I don't feel like I've done any damage, and I've been really really good about not brushing. Fingers crossed. The whole no hair, no teeth thing does not sound like an attractive combo!

Lucinda remind me to tell the boss that 😉

Blondes your doctor makes me laugh, 14/20/40 weeks - so any point in the pregnancy then?! Nothing like a vague platitude to make you feel better there... blinking better go away after 40 weeks!

LucyHMK · 13/10/2016 08:59

Teeth are okay! Have to have X-rays two months after the boy arrives to check them in more detail, but nothing on the surface causing problems 👍🏻
