Morning All!

Sorry to hear about the spotting MrsMc ? I hope it is nothing. As firststar says it is not long until Friday now ? hang in there. No pain is a good sign, as is the other signs of your pregnancy. Look after yourself ? I know you said on another thread you can?t take anymore time off, but take it as easy as you can and I?m sure your DH is looking after you as soon as you walk through the door at night.

Firststar ? I?m jealous. I want my own Doppler at home!! When I was pg with DD, I had a neighbour who was a midwife, so whenever I was concerned, I popped down to her and she had a listen for me ? no such help this time (although it is obviously still early), but when I get further along, do you think a toy stethoscope will work??!

Must get on with some work ? Conker, Crieff hydro sounds great!! No holidays booked for us until Easter, when we go skiing and I won?t even be able to do any of that!! Hopefully the weather will be good though, so I can get some sunshine.

Take care all
x

Sorry about the spotting MrsMc - Its so annoying that its come again just as you were relaxing. In a couple of days you'll see the little bean and I'm sure it will re-assure you. No pain is definately a good thing.

Conker, Crieff Hydro sounds great - I know a few people who have been and say its reallly good. The weather is nice again up here (Edinburgh) today - a wee bit chilly but sunshine and blue skies. Hopefully it will stay that way. Where do you live?

Honeyapple Wow - backpacking in Aus during your last PG - I hope you didn't have too much sickness while you were travelling. You are so right though Honeyapple, we do take a lot of medical intervention for granted during pregnancy. The problem is scans are almost addictive!. Hopefully its my last one tomorrow (hopefully as in the consultant will not want to see me anymore as everything will be OK) but having had 5 in the last 2 months I think I'm gonna have withdrawal symptoms!

Greedy - St Lucia!!!!! Thats amazing. How old are your kids? Its somewhere DH and I keep wanting to go to, so I'll be really interested to see what you think and if you kids enjoy it - I'm sure they will have a ball!

We are off to Centreparcs on the 5th March for a week... Am really looking forward to it. My DH works for a big airline so we've taken advantage of cheap flights and tried to go on long haul holidays over the last 2 years but I think DS has been too young really. So we are staying local and I can't wait!!!

Hope everyone else is doing well. PMSL at the image of Fettle and a bright toy stethescope stuck to her stomach. Give it a go!!!! You may need to your DH to tap the table in a rhythmic heart beat type way to make it work though

greedyforbabies · 20/02/2007 13:19

chooster - my kids are 2 and 3.5! they are quite well travelled already, but this is our first LONG flight with them! it could well be a complete nightmare of a holiday, but if we dont try it we will never know!!!

honeyapple - you are right about the scans.............but HOW did people ever used to cope!!!! my mums GP got her dates all wrong whenn she was pg with me (and shes a bit dippy so didnt have a clue!). she was due to be induced cos he thought she was 2 weeks overdue, but when she went into the maternity ward they sent her home and told her she was only about 7 months gone!!! i know that sounds hard to believe, but that is what she swears happens! she always had a very irregular cycle, so i guess thats how it got mixed up!

so who is first to pop on this thread then? is it bodders?

greedyforbabies · 20/02/2007 13:20

we are off to centerparcs in june chooster - its the perfect place for kids isn't it! have you been before?

conkertree · 20/02/2007 14:05

ooh all this talk of holidays makes me want to pack up now and head off - have two weeks in may booked off, but nothing arranged yet. want to have a last trip with dh before we become three, but really cant decide where to go on a very limited budget. no st lucia for us unfortunately - sounds fantastic to have that to look forward to.

crieff is a good start though for a few days. we live near kilsyth and dh works for the church of scotland as a youth worker so gets cheaper rates - great for a few days away.

centreparcs is great too - i went when i was about 16 but my sister went in september with her 19 month old (as was) and he had a great time, although i do wonder if she enjoyed the messy play etc just slightly more than him. he did however see a dead bird for the first time there, and dead ended up being one of his first words. you'd ask him "where are the birds" and he'd say - dead. people who didnt know him well started to wonder what my sister had been teaching him. it got to the stage that if anything was on the ground it was dead. seems to have grown out of it now, but very funny at the time.

laughed a lot at the toy stethoscope too.

greedyforbabies · 20/02/2007 14:28

can you use normal stethoscopes? has anyones midwife used one before? mine always used apinnard in the past

greedyforbabies · 20/02/2007 14:30

whoops! a pinnard! is that what they are called ? the trumpet thing!

i have got my own stethoscope and the thought that i might be able to use it and hear the HB when i am further along is very exciting!

MrsMcJnr · 20/02/2007 14:33

Ah ..that's right Conkertree - Crieff Hydro used to be dry because of the religious connection didn't it? - not anymore, not that that's of much interest to you at the mo!

I live in West Lothian, I think Kilsyth is just outside of Glasgow? am I right? - good to know there are others in Scotland, not just me and Chooster

conkertree · 20/02/2007 15:57

yes thats right mrs mcj - only down side of the deal is that dh can be called upon at any time when he is there to conduct morning prayers and the like - which they would probably regret if they did ask him - but luckily he's never had to so far.

i never thought of myself as someone who needed alcohol to have a good time, and i still dont, but it is rather a thought going to places that we go to regularly, when one of the things i really liked about going is the long afternoons sipping wine etc. but i know its not for long and there will be many other years to do the wine side of things.

there are a few scots on our due in august thread. there's a whole thread of people north of the border but i've never been on cause it seemed to have been going for ages before i joined.

talking about the scan thing - if i'd gone to glasgow, would only have got one scan at 12 weeks, but since i'm going to stirling, i get another one at 20 weeks - dont know how they decide - but yes agree that we take a lot for granted since our parents would have just had to wait to feel them kick.

PinkButterfly · 20/02/2007 16:31

MrsMcJ - sorry to hear your spotting has returned. I know how frustrated you must be. Not long now until your scan and I'm sure you will see that everything is fine. As others have said, no pain along with the spotting is v. positive. Oh, and think you have forgotten ... I am a Scot too (just outside Glasgow).

Greedy - think it's me who is "popping" first. My EDD is 24th June but am having a scheduled c-section around week 38-39 so my baby girl should be with us sometime mid-June (I will find out exact date at end of April.)

On the subject of the pinnard thing - I heard on a baby documentary (from a qualified midwife) that a toilet roll tube lets you hear heartbeat just as clear as the manual tool they use!!!??? Obviously the mother couldn't hear (unless she was a contortionist (sp?) but I might let dp and ds's have a go.

MrsMcJnr · 20/02/2007 16:46

Sorry Pinky I had forgotten you were up here too, sorry!! PMSL at the toilet toll - must get my DH to try that at some point in the future!

Bodkin · 20/02/2007 16:52

Cor, just caught up with everything - have probalby missed loads as skim reading, but it looks like there are a few celebrations to be had... Greedy - that's ace about your scan - bet you're glad you had that shag now, otherwise you would have missed out for nothing! And St Lucia!!!! !!!

Honeyapple - Congratulations to you! That's fab news.

Congrats to KitKat and PinkB - a boy and a girl - how exciting.

Greedy - think that I am the first to pop technically, but Firsty or Chooster could easily pip me to it, you just never know.

MrsMc - sorry to hear about more spotting, but otherwise your symptoms sound fine. I think it is normal for boob sensitivity to decrease a bit after the inital "ow bloody hell that hurts" I have never had very strong symptoms with either of my two pgs - we are just lucky that way! Anyway, by tomorrow afternoon we'll have broken the back of the week (so to speak) and then your scan will be nearly here.

Just been to see a very good friend in Bristol for a few days - she has a DD the same age as mine, and a DS who is 7 months who is adorable, so while I would love another girl, her little chap has got me all exited about the possibility of a blue one this time.

Hello to everyone else that I've missed.

Bodkin · 20/02/2007 16:55

Sorry PinkB - just crossed with you.. .. looks like you'll definitely be first up then!

honeyapple · 20/02/2007 17:17

Just cooked about 50 pancakes and only managed to get 1.5 for myself! The .5 was only cos my DD suddenly felt sorry for me when she tucking in to the last one!

Chooster- It was with my first PG that i was in Australia- I conceived whilst picking apples (well not literally when picking apples ) It is completley unbelievable to me now that I didnt see a doctor at all until i returned to the UK- but then i was young and a bit bonkers! I bought that What to Expect book when i was out there and that served as my doctor and midwife!

I am hating not telling people in RL about being PG. But DP is determined that we shouldnt mention it until 12 wks. The problem is everytime I see his mum she asks me outright if i am PG. I cant really lie to her though can I? We are off to a wedding on the 1st April and i wont know anybody as its DP work colleague... and i wont be boozing...not really looking forward to it at the moment.

I wish I had a holiday booked too! We went to centreparcs in march about 4 yrs ago. It was bloody freezing! TBH It wasnt quite how i had imagined it to be... not quite the get away from it idyll that i had hoped... I wouldnt spend too much time in the dome bit- only for swimming (stinks of chlorine!)- We did have a lovely time though! Oh dear, I sound a bit negative... We really did have fun! (Eating there was pricey too!- whoops!)
DD was only 4 mths old and DS was 4, I think it might be better for older kids because then they can do more of the activities.

PinkButterfly- I'm nosey, why are you having a CS? It must be weird to know the day when you are going to see your baby!

PinkButterfly · 20/02/2007 18:21

Oh that's ok Honey Apple. I had a scheduled section with ds1 as he was breach, 8lb 12oz and I am only just 5ft and a size 6 so they didn't advise I try to deliver him. DS2 was offered a cs but opted a trial of labour. Despite trying every trick in the book and also a couple of sweeps I went 10 days overdue then went into labour the day before I was due to have another scheduled cs (they wouldn't induce for fear of scar rupture so if labour didn't occur naturally then it's was a cs). Labour didn't progress and after 24 hrs I was only 1cm dialated. Baby was distressed and myconium (sp?) in waters so we agreed another cs. Another 8lb 12oz ds. This time round we have agreed just to go with cs. I am actually quite looking forward to having a definite date this time especially with having 2 other kids to organise care for etc.

honeyapple · 20/02/2007 19:11

Gosh pinkbutterfly- You have been through it! I can see why you've gone for a CS! It must have been horrid with no2 going through all the labour, only to have to have the CS...Will number 3 be the end of babies for you?

Chooster · 20/02/2007 19:33

Wow pinkbutterfly - thats 2 big boys you've had. Lovely you are having a girl now .

I'm sure your kids will be just fine on the flight Greedy... My DS was much better than we could ever have hoped even though he was very excited. I just bought him quite a few new (cheap!) toys and wrapped them up as he loves unwrapping presents. Then he just worked his way through them over the space of a few hours. You can always take walks up and down the plane and look for a friendly old lady who would just love a small child as company!

Its the first time we've been to centreparcs and I think we are just really excited because its going to be so much easier than our other holidays.

Hope everyone is doing well....

Mmmm, pancakes - I'll maybe have to try some myself.

PinkButterfly · 20/02/2007 19:36

To be honest Honey Apple I haven't had bad experiences really. My first cs wasn't great - my wound was infected and had mrsa bug in it so I took a while to recover which was why I really would have rather not had a second cs but the second one was a breeze - sectioned at 3am and up in shower before lunchtime, out hospital in two days, recovery really quick. I had geared myself up for it being worse than the first but was complete opposite which is why I feel so fine about just going with cs this time round.

Yes, this is last baby for us. We had actually decided after ds2 that we were all done, gave away all our baby bits and were looking forward to the end of babydom but here we are ... my new moto - "never say never"! Think that's why I am so delighted that we are having a little girl as I really didn't think we would ever have another child let alone a icle pink one and I was fine with that - don't think I realised how much I really quite wanted a daughter until I found that we were having one - bring on all things pink and butterfly related!!!!!!

honeyapple · 20/02/2007 20:22

It is lovely having a girl (and lovely having a boy of course!)- Mind you my DD drives me MAD with her pink obsession! I can't wait for her to grow out of it. I think she feels that pink shows that she is a girl, and she is v proud of being a girl...
so most clothes have to be pink or at least purple. Definitely NO brown or black or dark blue! I dont remember ever being so opinionated about what I wore... scary.
OMG- and the jewellery- she has 10x more than me!

MrsMcJnr · 20/02/2007 20:28

I'm catching up on what you've all written whilst getting more and more annoyed by the second, some infuriating teeenagers are kicking a ball against my fence and all I can hear is thud thud thud - grrrrrrrrrrrrrr! tell you, if that ball comes over, it's mine, all mine.

BabyMadwithBump · 21/02/2007 09:27

DH would love a girl, I'm not bothered my boys are so loving and kind, so another boy would be just as great! MS is back feel sick almost all the time again, and I'm being sick too and more so when I drink WATER "DH said must be a girl, hehe," well we'll see! I cant believe how fast it's going by Im 16+5 today and a bump to show for it, which i said to DH last night I'm going to have to charge him a parking fee at this rate, he's never off my bump, but he just said he'll start charging me DIY fee .
