I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Hello I'm still here.. Just about hanging on.

jel I really hope you can get help soon. I wasn't able to read everyone's replies but if no one has suggested it yet (unlikely!) the PSS charity is amazing if you give them a ring.

Hello to everyone

LucyHMK · 30/09/2016 12:01

It was worse than that pre drugs, blondes - I'm okay, honestly. The weirdest thing is that the drugs stop me from feeling sick, I'm still quite sick, but the constant nausea has lifted. I think that's worse, personally.
They keep checking; I don't need fluids. I've figured out that drinking & eating as soon as I'm sick keeps it down for a while. Sipping water throughout the day doesn't work for me at all.

Freshbreadandfaith · 30/09/2016 13:11

jel how many doctors have you seen? Can you see a different Dr? Mine gave me ondansetron from week five when I had just started sickness especially as I had a hg history with previous pg. A friend of mine started taking meds the minute she had a positive test!

LucyHMK · 30/09/2016 13:41

Ondansetron isn't usually prescribed pre 12 weeks as it's not known how safe it is in the first trimester & metoclopramide is usually the starting drug (although ironically I don't think that's safe in the third trimester). I've been on drugs since early on - week 5/6 ish? However I was sick from week 2 - so basically as soon as I was pregnant. I've been on Ondansetron since my second trimester started.
Definitely agree that you should ask for another opinion. The nausea is debilitating.

Blondeshavemorefun · 30/09/2016 13:53

lucy sounds horrendous if that's you in medication. Can't they try something else

Agree the constant nausea is worse then being sick. Once I'm sick I feel better and then eat and drink again

LucyHMK · 30/09/2016 14:19

I don't think so, Ondansetron is their final resort drug. I'm okay, honestly, I'm used to HG now I think. It's only on hot days that I really struggle.

LucyHMK · 30/09/2016 14:21

Is it shallow to say the bit that upsets me the most now is the hair loss? The patch is really big now 🙁 Stupid HG.

happydays00 · 30/09/2016 15:47

No lucy I can completely understand! My teeth are really starting to decay and it's becoming quite obvious on at least 2 of them! I'm most upset about this because I've always had nice teeth (since enduring braces as a child) and I've always told myself that HG was temporary - just get through a day/week/month at a time; whereas losing a tooth (or hair in your case) seems much more permanent!

I know we were joking about hair pieces and the similarities to Trump but have a look at easilocks website - they have some really good hair pieces. I use the clip ins for special occasions and always get a lot of compliments about how long and thick my hair looks (if they saw it in its current state , ha!)

jel2014 · 30/09/2016 17:03

Hi all. Scan today and there is beautiful bubba cooking nicely which has given me a boost. Feeling a bit better today. Eating cream crackers like nobody's business and forcing food down as soon as I feel sick. So helping. Just not sure how I do that whilst at work. Going back to see the dr next week. Spoke to sis in law who is a gp and she said she'd prescribe. So hoping for a better few days surging on cream crackers! Thanks for all the support

MotherofPearl · 30/09/2016 18:45

Thanks for updating us Jel. Lovely to hear good scan news, it always helps to be reminded about what the sickness is for! Hope the cream crackers stay put.
Fresh, I do remember feeling utterly exhausted in the third trimester, but don't remember the heavy limbs. Maybe worth mentioning to your midwife?
Sleepy, that baby best start getting ready to vacate the premises! Am I right that your due date is just a week away? Enjoy your quiet weekend with DS, although I'm sure you'll miss him.
Lucy, I'm very sorry to hear things are so bad. Think it's totally understandable to feel down about your hair; I'd be the same. Any chance they can try you on steroids? That's usually the next step after Ondansetron.
Blondes, the salivating is awful isn't it?! One of the worst things about HG (and god knows there's plenty if competition for that title!).
Autumn, nice to hear from you but sounds like you're really, really struggling. Sorry. It's so crap. Flowers for you.
Happy, so to hear that you may have to wait it out. Every day longer feels like a torture. As you say, maybe things will start naturally early on their own. Fingers crossed! The teeth thing is difficult. I think I mentioned on here a few weeks ago that my dentist was horrified by my post-HG teeth. I'm having the holes and what he called 'acid erosion' from the voms repaired next week. Dreading it. Can you manage to use a mouthwash? That can help when you can't brush.
Hope I've not rudely ignored anyone. Thinking of you all battling through, as ever. Cheery hello to Lucinda!

LucyHMK · 30/09/2016 19:12

happy I think I'll take a look if it gets any worse. I have perfected the cover up pony, but if it gets any worse I'm out of options.
Re the teeth, I was told not to brush straight after being sick & to rinse with water instead. I brush after 10 minutes or so as apparently the acid is bad together with brushing.
jel excellent news. I have a 4D scan on Sunday, it's lovely to see them.
mother I wish, I have bad osteo & can't take too many steroids. Was on them before & my bone density went down 83% so I'm avoiding if I can.

Blondeshavemorefun · 30/09/2016 22:14

Happy days. My dentist picked up on my teeth enamel the other month. :( tho he said brush ASAP after being sick if possible

Jel. Fab a bubba there and even better sil will preserve for you

Pearl. I can cope with the salviatating - wish the constant nausea would go

SleepymrsE · 01/10/2016 10:10

Morning, to all those talking about dentist fears, I had my appointment earlier this week. I have a bit of recession but nothing as bad as I feared. I am to go back once I've had the baby and she'll do a good clean and polish on them (didn't want to try anything while I was still feeling sick). The dentist did however give me a leaflet on dental care during pregnancy... It says 'the use of a small toothbrush can help if brushing the back of teeth causes a problem with feeling sick. Don't brush teeth immediately after vomiting as this can cause damage to the teeth. Rinsing with water can help. Try and wait at least 30 minutes before brushing'.

Hope this helps!

Still no blinking baby. With DS I was just about to give birth at this point in my pregnancy. So much for second babies arriving before first babies. Hopefully this just means it's going to be a chilled out baby! Off out into town with DH for a date day, wander round the shops and lunch (albeit a limited choice of what I will eat). Hopefully baby won't make us wait too much longer.

LucyHMK · 01/10/2016 11:20

Are you past your DD, Sleepy? Exciting that you've not got long left. Relax & get a bit of extra sleep in if you can.

Agreed re the dentist recommendation, I was told the same. You don't want to brush the acid into your teeth.

LucindaE · 01/10/2016 11:30

Jel I am so glad SIL will prescribe. Do invest in those kesostixs to check for the early stages of dehydration, though, says bossy Mother Hen.
Autumn Sorry you feel very bad. Don't hesitate to come on to moan. That's what this thread is for!
happydays SleepymrsE and others with tooth worries. I did find kids' strawberry toothpaste and a kids' toothbrush helpful. I found adult strong mint sickening. Sometimes I did what a dentist had done, and gave myself a diluted bicarbonate of soda mouthwash. I'm sure I would have been advised not to do that in pregnancy, because of the high salt content, though. It's odd; I found tea made with freshly picked mint soothing, but I did have a run in with a snail I accidentally included Shock.
Blondes Had to laugh at your monkey remark! Can you stand sucking boiled sweets? I used to swear by barley sugar I got from an old fashioned sweetshop, but that does possibly increase the saliva. You can't win!
Freshbreadandfaith Sorry you have suffered so over the summer. We did have a couple of heatwaves here in Mid Wales, but there was a lot of overcast weather and a fair bit of rain as ever, more suitable for suffferers than it has been elsewhere.
Lucy I really feel for you over hair loss. Of course, it will all grow back when baby is born, I hear you either have no hair loss - in which case, it all comes out at once afterwards - or lose a lot during pregnancy. Sorry, I have forgotten who suggested a link about real hair hairpieces but it sounds good. I take it that's fifty heaves a day - heaven forbid that it is fifty separate occasions. That's awful, and haven''t they consideerd adding cyclizine help?
mummymulb16 I wrote a message for you, and now can't read my own writing; that is bad!
Waves to lovely MotherofPearl and everyone. Apologies if I've rudely overlooked anyone...

SleepymrsE Forgot to say, much sympathy over pains and still feeling ill while baby waits to make a grand entrance...

SleepymrsE · 01/10/2016 13:39

lucy due date is 1 week away, but I had DS early so everyone had convinced me this baby would be early too. As I suspected, it seems to want me to suffer for as long as possible.

Back from town, enjoyed a nice lunch with DH even if I only managed half of it. Didn't stay for too long as I was suffering bad pains low down in my back / top of my bum. We even had to stop in one shop for DH to rub it really hard - God knows what other people thought! Off to the docs shortly for my flu jab. Such a rock and roll lifestyle.

LucyHMK · 01/10/2016 15:02

Sleepy it's all rock'n'roll here too! Whoop! Hope the back ache eases. I'm hoping my boy stays put until 39 weeks as I have a c booked. Fingers crossed.

Lucinda sadly not. I think counting that would be depressing! Wednesday I had quite the tale of woe; I was sick at about 4 am, 4:10, 4:30, 5, 5:30, 6, 6:10, 6:20. Then I thought it was a good idea to head downstairs at about 6:30 to feed the cat. I opened her pouch of food & the smell was too much & I threw up all over the kitchen floor, then in the sink. Poor cat is still traumatised from when I was sick on her in June & then had to hose her down in the garden, so I've been given a bit of a suspicious wide berth since Weds! Ha! If I don't laugh at this point, I will cry!

LucyHMK · 01/10/2016 15:03

Oh & the Cyclazine didn't do anything for my sickness at all, but it gave me headaches so I stopped it.

LucyHMK · 01/10/2016 15:06

P.s. Just washed my hair, see what I mean about the placement? 😫😫😫

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/10/2016 15:25

Please tell me that isn't your hair?

I did try preggo sweets off eBay. Very sour sweets but kinda stopped sickness feeling for a while

Happy to suck stuff

And no problem brushing teeth with normal toothpaste. I love mint stuff at mo

LucyHMK · 01/10/2016 17:14

That's my (lack of) hair. No joke. Wish it were.

Thanks, HG 😭

RaeSkywalker · 01/10/2016 18:34

Hi all, just popping on quickly to say hello!

I've had a tough week- I'm shattered and had to come home early from work on Thursday as was so sick. I've booked Monday and Tuesday off to go for a spa break with my mum, so am hoping to get some rest! Spent most of today sleeping.

Sleepy sorry to hear no baby news yet. I hope little one makes an appearance soon! Lucy I totally understand why you're self conscious. How far along are you now?

I'm so sorry to not reply to everyone- I'm going to bed again now but will try and get online again and catch up properly soon!

Thinking of you all Flowers

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/10/2016 19:04

Bless you lucy 💐💐

happydays00 · 01/10/2016 19:15

lucy I completely understand and don't think you are being shallow at all! Embrace the pony tail until this HG hell is over!

rae nice to hear from you but sorry to see you've had such a bad week. I've really found that the 3rd trimester exhaustion has made my nausea/sickness so much worse, I really hope your spa break helps you. Flowers

Just a short post from me tonight, thinking of you all as always
