I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Mummymlb16 Sick twice is unpleasant. How are the liquids staying down? Did they suggest the 'open door policy' they have recommended for others? Do keep an eye on those ketones, says Mother Hen. Don't be discouraged. Things wil almost certainly get a lot better better, even if The Scourge never entirely goes away.
I Can't Lovey to hear from you with such a nice message. Time passes quickly, after the birth...Just seen icklekid's post. Snap! A bit of synchronicity...
SleepymrsE I hope BH not too uncomfortable today. They can be painful...
HappyDays and MotherofPearl Those Virtuouso Vomiting Espisodes are awful. There's an autumnal nip here in Mid Wales. I hope it's not too hot elsewhere.
LightTripper Actually, that was a rather tactless comment of mine about the wedding, as I should have sensed the longing in your post. But you will go to many more, and be able to eat and strange things like that.
icklekid Lovely to hear from you as ever.

Not at all Lucinda! Please don't worry. I'm glad I didn't go. I wouldn't have coped very well at all xx

RaeSkywalker · 25/08/2016 07:40

Hi all, sorry for the radio silence: it's not been a great few days- I'm so tired!

MOP glad you're feeling better! Light I'm so pleased that you survived the weekend. I hope that th holiday prep is going well.

mulb Horray for ondansetron! Here's hoping it does the trick. Just look out for the constipation 😁

happy I'm not sleeping well either- how did you do last night?

Icant lovely to hear from you! This thread has been a lifeline for me too.

RaeSkywalker · 25/08/2016 07:41

mulb just saw your latest message- I still feel constantly nauseous, but am being sick rarely now- a few times a week maybe?

Hope everyone is coping in the heat!! Flowers

happydays00 · 25/08/2016 09:54

rae I am absolutely exhausted, another very broken nights sleep last night.

For all of you with other DC - how are you doing this?? I find the idea of caring for another when I feel like this incomprehensible!

mulb how are you doing now you're home? Has the nausea eased at all?

I'm back to the doctors tomorrow to hopefully get a more effective drug. The consultant has recommended ordansetron in my notes as the next step so hopefully the doctor is willing to comply!

SleepymrsE · 25/08/2016 10:51

happy I won't lie, it is hard dealing with HG and another DC. A good support network is great, with DH and all grandparents being very supportive and taking on additional childcare duties. Very early nights help too. Fingers crossed you get a better nights sleep tonight and that the doctors are willing to prescribe ondansatron.

rae I was wondering if you were ok as things had been quiet. I think it has helped me lots by reducing the no of days I work. Would it be feasible to use some leave to take a day off per week until you start mat leave?

light I hope you aren't doing too much at work, I def did too much when I was sorting stuff for my office move.

Days annual leave today and although I was up early, I feel I have achieved loads already having run lots of errands (including booking dentist appointment) and most importantly I have booked in for a pedicure on my first day of mat leave on 13th Sept. Can't wait! People keep saying my bump has dropped which I guess is a good thing but still getting heartburn so not sure it can have dropped that much. Meeting one of the mums from nursery this afternoon for a cuppa, she's due in a couple of weeks and has had a rough pregnancy too so I'm sure we'll be able to have a good moan together!

Hi to everyone else.

LightTripper · 25/08/2016 11:15

Last night was special wasn't it?!? To top it off, was woken up several times by a fox doing something noisy in my front garden. Something noisy turned out to be ripping somebody else's bag of rubbish open and spreading it all over the garden. Joy. Good thing my sickness is less bad in the morning, but it was touch and go nonetheless.

Here's hoping it cools down a bit from here: today looks like it should be a bit cooler, and then some rain this evening!

I am currently binning everything in my office, which is very satisfying, though I should really be doing some actual work.

I so agree with you re: part time Sleepy: had a 4 day week last week, another one this week, and only working Tuesday and Thursday next week - all seems much more doable than full 5 day stretches.

LT xx

MotherofPearl · 25/08/2016 22:02

Just nipping on to wish everyone a cooler and less disturbed night tonight. Will have a proper catch up tomorrow.

Mummymulb16 · 26/08/2016 06:08

I'm still sick about twice a day but its normally when Inhave drank too much after eating. In finding fluids an really hard in trying ice lollies and sipping throughout the day but not getting near enough be. Anyone else struggling with fluids?
Hope your all well doing well xx

happydays00 · 26/08/2016 12:44

How are you all doing today?

mulb I'm not struggling specifically with liquids but generally just sipping and nibbling on things so I'm guessing if I drank a lot I would possibly be sick too?

Oh I am wishing for winter to hurry up! The heat and mugginess is making things particularly unpleasant! The good news for me is my GP has prescribed Ondansetron, the bad news is they might not get it in before the weekend so my fingers are crossed that I don't have to go trekking round pharmacies tonight to find one that has it already.

I have some friends staying for the weekend, which I was looking forward to but DP now needs to fly home for a relatives funeral so feeling extremely worried how I'm going to cope hosting!

MotherofPearl · 26/08/2016 18:22

Mulb, I always found liquids harder than (beige HG-friendly) food. It can help to sip tiny amounts from a straw. Or try liquids that are either very cold or very hot. Reebok, who used to be on this thread, swore by sipping boiling hot water. Or what about ice cubes? With the Ondansetron you also need to watch out for constipation. Ah, the joys of HG eh?!
Happy, I'm worried for you about this weekend with house guests on your own! How well do you know them? Can you put them off? They'll need to understand that you can't do much. Can you order them take out, or get some ready meals in? Might they be happy to watch films on the sofa with you? Remember that you are ill enough to be prescribed Ondansetron, a drug originally given to cancer patients to fend off the side effects of chemotherapy, so they have to let you rest. Hope you manage to get your hands on some Ondan tonight.
Hope everyone else is coping OK and not too exhausted: Sleepy, Rae, Light and anyone I've stupidly omitted.

Autumnsunshinebaby · 26/08/2016 18:37

I want to start by saying hello and that I feel like a complete fraud posting on this thread but I am really really struggling and don't know what to do. I am 6.5 weeks and have crippling nausea. I've not been sick but I am almost dizzy with the nausea. I can pretty much only eat one specific variety of crisps. Ginger, lemon, mints etc don't help, travel bands don't help, nevasic cd isn't helping. I can't go on like this. Cyclizine provides a small small amount of relief. I'm struggling to get through each day and can barely look after myself let alone my 3 year old. I'm getting this nausea 24/7. Any tips?

RaeSkywalker · 26/08/2016 18:39

happy I am so pleased that you've got ondansetron now. How are you getting on with it? Hope that you take it easy with your guests visiting. Order them takeaway and make sure you rest!

Sleepy good point about annual leave. The problem is it's so crazy busy! I have booked Tuesday off next week though, I need a rest. Great idea about booking a pedicure for your first day of mat leave!

Light I think that your wish for a cooler night might not happen! I'm melting here! Hope things are better where you are.

Mother great point about ondansetron! I haven't thought of it like that before.

I'm glad it's Friday, it's been a long week. Had a meeting which went really well on Tuesday- I've been prepping for it for months so it was a fairly big deal in my little world! I'm feeling a bit better about how I'm viewed at work now. Going to have to work a bit over the weekend but definitely need to take it easy- I'm probably do a couple of hours on my laptop each day.

RaeSkywalker · 26/08/2016 18:43

Autumn, sorry- cross posted with you. Sorry you're so poorly. I find the nausea harder to cope with than the sickness.

Are you managing to keep your fluid levels up? I think that if you've been on cyclizine for 48 hours or more and it's not helping, you should go back until you get something that works. Emphasise how this is impacting your quality of life. Did you have bad nausea with your 3 year old? (just asking because I'm interested). I found sucking ice cubes, having cheap ice lollies, and eating small amounts of dry Rice Krispies helped a little when I was at my worst.

Autumnsunshinebaby · 26/08/2016 19:03

raeskywalker thank you. Do you think I can get a prescription from the midwife at my booking appointment on Tues? I'm not sure how I'll get through until then but the GP will be shut til then. The thought of having to venture out to the out of hours doctor fills me with dread.

I had nausea with my last pregnancy but I coped with crackers and lucozade. This is a whole other level. I am drinking.... Mainly sipping lemonade because it's fizzy and cold. Water from the tap is NOT GOOD! Do you know how much cyclizine I can safely take in pregnancy? Is it 3 times a day?

SleepymrsE · 26/08/2016 19:08

Really quick one from me, it's been a hard day. Had really bad night last night with reflux, sickness & sore hips/back. Then looking after DS today (the highlight of which was when he poo'd in his playhouse - he was naked from being in the paddling pool - and I had to ram my 34 week bump into a small smelly space to clean it up) and the heat has left me totally wiped out and feeling very rough. Had a meltdown before DH came home and DS came and gave me a big hug and told me 'it's ok mummy' which obviously made me cry more! Had to leave DH to sort DS since about 5.30 when he got home so I could lay on the bed. Managed some bread for tea. Hoping I can get a good nights sleep tonight.

Sorry to th woe is me message, glad to hear work has gone well rae, but please rest up this weekend.

Hi to autumn, as rae says you should go back to the docs to try a diff med as there are a few to choose from. Unfortunately most will only take away the sickness (or reduce it at least) but doesn't do too much for the nausea. Def worth trying a different one though esp as you are struggling to look after you DC. Do you have childcare support. Most of us with little ones have had to rely on family & friends to help out lots.

Hi to everyone else that I have very rudely missed. So tired, nauseous, swollen and sore.

Autumnsunshinebaby · 26/08/2016 19:26

sleepyMrsE I'm sorry to had to endure poo+playhouse +heat combo feeling so awful. Even the thought of it makes me feel ill!

I don't have any childcare help until my husband gets home from work. We live hours away from family and I've not told friends about my pregnancy so I can't ask them to help. I'm so glad it's the weekend now.

RaeSkywalker · 26/08/2016 20:38

Autumn I don't think that midwives can prescribe. I know that OOH is a nightmare- I got really bad just in time for Easter and had 3 trips there over the long weekend! Glad to hear that you're managing to have some fluids, though it will be easy to get dehydrated in this heat. Please keep an eye on things and seek help if you need to. It might be worth ordering some ketostix so that you can monitor ketones in your urine. I think that 3+ is when people usually get admitted for IV fluids (not 100% sure though).

Oh goodness Sleepy you're having such a hard time of it recently! Hope that tonight is better. Is your DH around over the weekend to entertain DS so that you can rest?

happydays00 · 26/08/2016 20:50

autumn welcome and so sorry to hear you are feeling so dreadful. As sleepy and Rae have said , keep going back. I tried 3 cyclizine a day and it had no effect for me unfortunately. I find that sucking on mints helps a little, perhaps you could try that until you can get back to a GP? Even now, if I do not suck a mint I am sick every 20 - 30 minutes.

sleepy sorry to hear you are struggling as well! The poo/playhouse fiasco sounds unpleasant to manage even if not pregnant! Like I said before, I am in awe of you all looking after other DC whilst suffering from HG!

mop I know, I'm worried too. I know one very well but he is bringing his new boyfriend with him and I'll be meeting him for the first time. My DP is so fantastic at looking after people when they come to stay I'd be panicking slightly even if I wasn't so sick. I have spoken to my friend tonight to give him the heads up and he says there's no pressure and they'll entertain themselves if I'm struggling. Eurgh. Still dreading it slightly!

light how are you holding up? Still melting?

Waves to everyone else, so sorry if I've forgotten anyone, I feel beyond exhausted tonight!

MotherofPearl · 26/08/2016 21:20

Welcome Autumn. You've already had great advice from the others, but I wondered if there were any smells that help to soothe the nausea a little? I know Lucinda found a tissue with drops of lavender oil on it helpful, and I got a great tip on here which really helped me which was finding a mouthwash you can bear (in my case Listerine Cool Citrus!) - I'd rinse my mouth with it to ease nausea, and then sometimes even just taking a sniff from the bottle would help quell the nausea. I really do feel for you - the nausea is so dreadful.
Sleepy, I'm sorry to hear about poogate! Sounds horrific! And generally you sound very ground down. I hope you can have a restful weekend. Can your DH look after DS to give you a break?
Rae, glad to hear work is going well, but like others I'd caution against doing too much at the weekend - you need to be putting your feet up after your busy week.
Happy, glad you've warned your friends and sounds like they'll be understanding. Don't push yourself to entertain them, you've got to put yourself first.
Gosh, I sound awfully bossy everyone, sorry! I just know that after meds, rest is the best thing for HG (and nausea).

Autumnsunshinebaby · 26/08/2016 21:35

mother of pearl such a good idea thank you. I'll find something that helps!

RaeSkywalker · 26/08/2016 21:38

Autumn forgot to add that I think that the maximum dose of cyclizine is 3 a day (1 every 8 hours).

happy hope you get a good sleep Flowers

Mop good point, I will have a long lay in tomorrow morning before I attempt to do anything- and if I feel awful, I won't do anything.

Was absoloutely terrified about the baby earlier, it went really quiet for a couple of hours. Had an ice lolly and now it's going nuts and I'm grinning like a loon. Phew.

happydays00 · 26/08/2016 21:44

rae I've been meaning to ask - how are your itchy legs? Has this eased a bit?

RaeSkywalker · 27/08/2016 08:32

Better thanks happy! I've basically stopped using any moisturiser on them (I was using a sensitive, unfragranced one before so I'm still baffled by how they were so bad). They are still very itchy, but better than they were, so I'll mention it to the midwife when I see her next week. She'll be taking bloods anyway so hopefully those tests will pick up any problems.

Hope everyone is ok today!!

Autumnsunshinebaby · 27/08/2016 09:16

Thanks rae I had been prescribed them for something else and just checked with my gp I could take them now but wasn't sure if the dose would be the same.

I think I'll probably head off this wonderfully supportive thread now as I don't have HG, just appalling nausea so I feel a bit of a fraud posting here. Thanks so much for your help. Autumn x
