I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

rae well done! How do you feel now? Glad you made it to the services, last time I had a long journey we had to pull over on a busy A road for me to be sick. A real low point for me I felt!

I have to travel to Ireland for a my future SIL's wedding in a couple of weeks and I'm just dreading it! I find that any amount of travelling now just drains me - possibly from constantly fighting nausea? Does anyone else find this?

Think the lack of sleep is a combination of the heat, HG and just generally feeling a bit agitated!

Waves to all

RaeSkywalker · 22/08/2016 13:01

happy I'm really tired today. But at work and powering through! I agree with you about travelling. I think to a certain extent it's normal pregnancy stuff, but we've got HG draining us as well, and we aren't eating properly to give us energy. Hope you manage to get some decent sleep soon Sad

Does anyone else get really itchy legs? Mine drove me mad last night, I had to have a cold shower at midnight! They've been bad most nights, but not as bad as that. I'll mention it to the midwife when I see her in a couple of weeks, but I'm guessing that this is 'normal'?

Hope everyone is ok today Flowers

MotherofPearl · 22/08/2016 13:21

Rae, not to scare you but probably worth discussing the itching legs with your midwife or GP ASAP. It can be nothing but it can also be a symptom of cholestasis, which is a pregnancy-related liver condition. I only know about it because a friend at work had it. Typically appears in 2nd or 3rd trimester. Probably it's nothing but I'd get it checked out I reckon.
Sorry to post and dash: have been a bit unwell since last night with a stomach bug! The irony!

Mummymulb16 · 22/08/2016 14:13

In hospital as I had lots of ketones in my urine! They have injected me cyclizine even though I said I have tried it and it doesn't work! So going on drips now and waiting to see if there's anything else ! GP said ondanstern should only be prescribed as a last option! So I don't know what I will get !

MotherofPearl · 22/08/2016 14:31

Mulb, sorry to hear you've been admitted but tbh it's the best place for you. IV cyclizine is often more effective than the oral form, so fingers crossed it helps break the sickness cycle. Try to speak to a hospital consultant about Ondansetron - they know a lot more about it than GPs. Good luck and hope you're feeling better soon. Flowers

happydays00 · 22/08/2016 14:45

rae I had very itchy thighs and inner arms. Was tested for cholestasis and tested negatively but I do think you should run this by your GP ASAP. If it isn't cholestasis, I can recommend E45 cream and Clarins body oil to soothe the itching. I still get chronic itching every now and again but the lotion and oil definitely helps.

mulb sorry to hear you have been admitted but as mop says, you're in the best place and hopefully they can give you something to help you soon. Keep pushing them!

Hope everyone else is ok today!

icklekid · 22/08/2016 15:36

Sorry ladies both dd and I have awful colds so feeling sorry for ourselves...

mulb you may find hospital consultants more willing to prescribe ondansetron- many on this thread found that and then just get repeat prescription from gp. Was certainly the case for me

rae as others have said give midwife or gp a call. Better safe than sorry!

mop hope your stomach ache feels better soon

As for feeling tired think is often common in pregnancy especially first and third trimester however for those with hg it is permanent. Everyone keeps saying how well I look with 3 week old (very little sleep) and a toddler and I think its the contrast from being so poorly pregnant! You will get there ladies!

LightTripper · 22/08/2016 19:07

Sorry to hear you are so I'll Mulb. Hope the hospital manages to sort you out xxx

RaeSkywalker · 22/08/2016 19:50

Mother thank you- I thought that choleostasis was just itchy palms and soles of feet. I'll call the midwife tomorrow to see what they think. I wonder if I'm anaemic because I'm bruising really easily at the moment (legs are covered in them), and my boss said that itching can be linked to anaemia as well. Hmm.

Mother sorry you're poorly- it seems so cruel that you're being sick again! Hope you're bearing up ok.

Mulb I really hope that they listen and get you on something effective. Hopefully a kind consultant will get you on ondansetron: my GP made a massive deal about it, the consultant prescribed without a second thought (I had 4+ ketones).

happy thank you for the tips about creams! I tried calamine lotion last night but even that seemed to irritate my skin- hence the late night shower. I will try anything at this point but promise I will call my midwife too.

ickle sorry to hear about the colds. Hope you're getting in lots of cuddles with your DD and DS and managing to get some rest.

At work today the woman I sit next to, who hasn't commented on my illness at all, completely out of nowhere went "you must be so desperate to get your pregnancy over with!" I'm taking this to mean that I must look particularly unwell today Grin

LucindaE · 22/08/2016 20:01

Mummymulb16 So sorry you have got so ill. I was worried about those ketones below. It's not nice to have to go to hospital, but hopefully you will soon feel a lot better after being on a drip and they will take medication more seriously. It's bad that so often people have to be admitted before they are really taken seriously.
HappyDays Much sympathy over the Public Puking Performance - at least on an 'A' road the traffic would be moving too quickly for people to stare for too long!
Rae Glad you made it,both on the trip and to the services.
icklekid Lovely to hear from you with that encouraging message.
MotherofPearl Great advice as ever. Sorry to hear that you have a stomach bug - a horrid reminder.
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.

SleepymrsE · 22/08/2016 20:03

Although it is unpleasant, hospital really is the best place for you mulb. I expect the hydration & IV meds will break the cycle for you. Plus I suspect consultant will prescribe ondansatron. Def ask about it when they see you. They could even try that IV before you get discharged. Also ask about open door policy. When I was admitted they basically said if I continued to be as sick to just ring them and they'd admit me again and get me hooked up to the drip.

rae agree with others that it is worthwhile getting checked. They'll prob do the blood test that I had to check for liver probs. Itching can also be linked to another pregnancy condition which isn't dangerous but is very annoying. My friend had it during her third trimester. Only remedy is delivery. My legs often itch but think that's down to legs being swollen and tight. The warm weather hasn't caused that to happen has it? When are you 28 weeks? You should get some more bloods done then to test for anaemia. That's when they picked up my problem.

Sorry to hear both ickle and mop are feeling poorly too.

I'm doing ok. Feeling sick and heartburny which is no different to usual. Shame the omeprazole doesn't appear to be working anymore. Midwife appointment next week but I doubt they'll be able to do anything further. Lots of braxton hicks. I had them with DS but they def seem more frequent this time round esp if I need a wee, walk too quick. Hopefully it's my body slowly gearing up. Don't think little one is getting itself into position yet as its all over the place. Head, bum and limbs everywhere.

happydays00 · 22/08/2016 21:16

rae we seem to have suffered similarly- my thighs were also covered in bruises from where I had been scratching but I put this down to the clexane injections (blood thinners). My bile acids and ferratin levels were too high but I think once these levelled the itching reduced! Hoping you get some comfort soon!

I'm aiming for an early night tonight and hoping for a good nights sleep.

Night all

MotherofPearl · 23/08/2016 09:19

Morning All,
Thanks for concern; bug seemed to be a 24 hour thing so all fine now, thankfully.
Mulb, how are you today? Are you still in hospital? Hope there's been some progress on the meds front?
Rae, sorry to hear you may be anaemic on top of everything else. Let us know what the midwife says about the itching legs. I guess your colleague's comment was pretty accurate - you are desperate to get your pregnancy over with, like anyone with HG!
Happy, did you get your early night and good sleep? I hope so. When is your GP appointment?
Sleepy, sorry to hear the omprezole has stopped being effective. I wonder if there's anything stronger you can try? Braxton Hicks, though uncomfortable, are a good sign of things getting ready, as you say! Really not much longer for you; very exciting!
Ickle, sorry to hear you and DD have colds. Summer colds are awful.
Light, how are you feeling at the moment?
Hope everyone is coping, especially in this heat. Today is set to be boiling I think.

LightTripper · 23/08/2016 10:09

Hello MOP Sorry I failed to notice your tummy bug but glad it's better now!

I'm OK. OH had a really nice time at the wedding. It was absolutely beautiful (quite a few pics on FB) - the groom rowed the bride across the lake to the reception, with all the cliffs behind lit up and fairy lights in all the trees - very romantic! And there were more people there that OH knew than he was expecting. I think he had a proper relax which he is very bad at and really needed, so I feel pleased he went without having to look after me and DD. I had a lovely time with my Mum (it was her 80th birthday last week but she is amazing) and Dad and my lovely S and BIL and their DD came over for lunch to my Mum & Dad's on Sunday so it was a big family get together. I managed to make a tart for it on Saturday a.m. so got to feel I was contributing a little bit at least. I don't think I would have managed the wedding at all well, so even though I had a relatively good weekend health wise I don't regret not going.

I actually had really good days sickness wise on Friday and Saturday - was able to do bathtime and story with my DM just being back-up. Sunday was much harder and yesterday I was throwing up again by 6pm ... am I allergic to London? Or the thought of London?

Feeling a bit nervous as I've only got 5 working days left now until holiday and quite a bit to get done. If I was well I would breeze through it in a couple of days, but I have a horrible feeling I'm going to be cutting it fine (even if nothing new emerges over the next week, which it usually does, especially as we come into September and people come back from their holidays!) And we are also moving office while I'm away, so I need to tidy up/throw lots of stuff away.

I'm going to do a "to do" list on my whiteboard (a bit like making a revision timetable at school rather than actually revising ... but it's a start).

Hope everyone else is doing OK. I suspect I am suffering much less than all of you so I feel bad complaining. It's nice having somewhere to go to do it though. You are all very much appreciated.

LT x

Mummymulb16 · 23/08/2016 10:34

Thanks for your lovely messages guys. Yes I am still here still have ketones in urine. I feel better and doctor said they r going to give me ondanstern so hopefully they will do the job! I reall don't want to stay another night tho.moos my lil girl Smile

LightTripper · 23/08/2016 11:14

Oh brilliant Mulb - so glad you're going to get the Ondanestron - many people seem to find that a game changer so hopefully it will be for you too! And your DD will then hopefully get a much happier Mum back home again, so a couple of nights away will be a price well worth paying for both of you!

SleepymrsE · 23/08/2016 16:42

Pleased to hear you're going to get some ondansatron mulb. Hopefully you'll be home soon.

Sorry to hear you're struggling again light, I can't say I would want to be working in London with HG esp with all this heat/humidity. Try and take it easy where you can.

Glad to hear you're better mop. I think you're right about the braxton hicks. But I've had even more today. They aren't painful but very uncomfortable. Even contemplated timing them earlier but I know from contractions with DS, the real things are flippin painful. Feeling v tired and hot and sick.

LucindaE · 23/08/2016 18:57

Mummymulb16 That is happy news about Ondansetron. I hope this is the beginning of a turn for the better.
LightTripper That sounds a lovely wedding - who thought up that great idea about the groom rowing the bride over the lit up lake?
You sound as if you are overdoing it a bit. Mother Hen says cluck cluck, take every opportunity to let people wait on you.
Rae SleepymrsE and HappyDays and all with itchy legs - that sounds awful, even if the explanation is a benign one. HappyDays I hope you had a good night?
MotherofPearl I am glad you are feeling better again.
Hot again. I hope all are coping in the returned heat.

happydays00 · 23/08/2016 20:52

mulb great news! Have they let you go home yet?

light how did you get on at work? Did wonder how you were coping today? Can you at least avoid the tube for your commute?

rae how are you holding up?

sleepy not surprised you are feeling hot and tired.- roll on the Autumn!!

My sleep is still quite sporadic, seem to wake up a lot in the night and then can't get back to sleep so wake up feeling exhausted, not ideal. It is so hot again today - I don't hold out much hope for a good nights sleep tonight either! Can't wait till it's time to snuggle up in pj's under a nice duvet!!

Waves to mop and lucinda and anyone else (my brain can't cope with anymore names it seems!)

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 23/08/2016 22:46

Just popping in to say hello! Dexter is now 4 month's old - it really has flownby. Wondering who's had babies?
Looking back I now realise how wonderful and supportive this thread was during my pregnancy, I often think of you all. So thank you motherhen for setting it up.
Lots of love x

MotherofPearl · 24/08/2016 08:46

Icant! So lovely to hear from you! My DD is 16 weeks old today, just a couple of weeks younger than Dexter. Often remember how badly you suffered - you, Hues and Kalidasa are in the record books for this thread! Hope you're enjoying every second of your time with both your DS. How is your health generally now?
Mulb, I'm so relieved to hear they've agreed to give you Ondansetron. Let us know when you're home and how you're getting on with the meds. Enjoy being reunited with your DD.
Waves back to Happy! How was your night? I have similar memories of being sick on the side of an A road in my first HG pregnancy! I was on my hands and knees in the grass thinking 'this really can't get any worse'!
And Sleepy, you sound understandably fed up too. Did you get any sleep? Very hot and sticky here.
Light, the wedding in Greece sounds specularly, but I think you're right not to have gone. Sounds like you had a lovely family weekend instead, Good luck with moving offices - sounds like what Sleepy was doing a couple of weeks ago. Don't overdo it with clearing out and packing up.
Hope Rae is OK both sickness and itching legs wise. Wishing everyone a bearable day.

MotherofPearl · 24/08/2016 08:48

spectacular, even Blush

icklekid · 24/08/2016 09:43

Waves at Icant but refuses to believe it has been 4 months since you were here! Then again dd is 4 weeks old so nearly a month old! Terrifying how time flies with babies yet drags with hg!

LightTripper · 24/08/2016 09:53

Hello all! How are you doing today Mulb? And Sleepy - did the BH let up or still annoying?

All fine here. Had a good productive day yesterday, less sick. Hoping today will be another one like that as I need the time really. I also need to sort out a recommendation letter and leaving gift for my nanny.

Luckily I don't have to use the tube, no. I live in Hackney so there is no tube, and when I'm well I can walk in - but at the moment I'm taking the bus. Usually it's pretty good though today I had to let a few go to get a seat. Never mind. Nice day and not feeling too bad so far so I'm going to try to break the back of a couple of jobs today.

Hope the heat isn't too painful for everybody xxx

Mummymulb16 · 24/08/2016 17:06

I'm good. And finally home. The meds are doing but I have been sick twice tho, I stil feel nauseated does anyone else even tho they r on meds? I feel better like 60% better I guess it will take time . Hope your all feel ok as best as you can given the heat. X
