I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Thankyou motherofpearl for the reflux meds advice xx

MotherofPearl · 20/08/2016 09:44

Rae, hope you're not paying too much this morning for your late night this morning? Can you put your feet up this weekend at least?
Happy, good news about finding the right size of pram, but sorry to hear about the meds fail. You're so right to persist with the GP until you get something that works.
Light, glad you have your parents helping out, and also glad that you have a nice family weekend planned, to take your mind off Greece. Hope you're not regretting not going? I think you made the right choice.
Sleepy, it seems so unfair that you're still being sick so late on in your pregnancy. Gaviscon is brave, I could never stomach it! But I chomped my way through boxes and boxes of Rennies! As Amysmummy said, it's that delicious chalky goodness!
Hope Notta and Mulb are doing OK.
I'm taking DS to a kids' show at the theatre this afternoon which I'm looking forward to. Leaving both DDs with DP! Hope he's going to be OK with the baby, who is EBF and hasn't tried a bottle yet. The show is only just over an hour long, so planning to give her a mammoth feed before we go and then hope she sleeps for the time I'm out!

LucindaE · 20/08/2016 10:51

icklekid It was great you were able to come on at all. MotherofPearl you must be the most admirably organized mother of a new born - is that because it's a third? And to take LO to a show too! I hope baby sleeps through. Great advice too over heartbur. for freshbread. That so adds to the sickness if not treated effectively, as you remember too well. I swallowed loads of Gaviscon - the doctor said there wasn't anything else - and it did very little good.
freshbread Lol about people thinking you are due!
Rae Hope you are OK?
happydays I am glad you are going to get different meds; sorry about bad nights, and I'm happy you are somehow feeling cheerful.
Lighttripper Never feel guilty about being looked after. Glad your mother is in good enough health to do some caring. I hope the celebration goes swimmingly. You'll be in understanding company, then!
Notta How are things?
Rae Did you get away with the late night? I hope so.
SleepymrsE Top of the list, as others say. That heartburn is awful. Really sorry to hear that stronger meds than gaviscon aren't working on it. Gaviscon can make one vomit up sinister amounts of foam, someone on here was alarmed a few threads back. Mother Hen flapped first to Bucks, then to North Wales as I had to do gardening in the place where my autistic spectrum brother lives, and the grounds were going wild apart from the orchard. Furious fights with rhodedendron (spelling?) and
brambles.
Apologies to anyone rudely ignored. Back soon.

Rae On milk and acidity, found that while milk briefly soothes it, seemingly it is acid enough to make it worse after half an hour, if that makes sense.

Hi all. Apologies for the radio silence.

After the c-section was cancelled 5 times due to scbu being full, baby was finally born on Monday weighing in at 4lb 12oz at 35 weeks. He came back onto the ward with me initially but his blood sugar dropped drastically and so we've been in scbu ever since. Things change on an hourly basis but he's doing really well at the moment.

With regards to the hyperemesis, as soon as I came back from theatre, that constant nausea and vomiting was gone. I was ravenous lyfli hungry and the midwives, knowing my situation, let me have a jacket potato, beans and cheese an hour after the section! It was the best food I'd ever tasted...and it stayed down! No sickness since either. It's absolutely amazing.

Anyway, I thought I'd update you all and when I get 5 minutes when I'm not feeding, I'll catch up on the thread. Good luck ladies and thank you Flowers

hues CONGRATULATIONS!!!! He is absolutely gorgeous and you must be so relieved and proud! Wishing you all the very best, lovely to hear from you FlowersFlowers

RaeSkywalker · 20/08/2016 15:09

ickle women's hockey, yes. Great result- can't quite believe it!! Hope you're ok.

happy glad to hear about the pram! I've just had to get a new car to fit ours in without taking the wheels off! Glad you're going back to the Dr- hope that they help you.

Light I'm so glad that you're getting help his weekend! Good luck with the tart.

Sleepy it's all about the beige as far as I'm concerned! I am loving cereal at the moment. This baby is being grown on a diet of chocolate milkshake, cereal and soup.

RaeSkywalker · 20/08/2016 15:12

Mop hope that the theatre trip goes well and that your little one sleeps whilst you're out.

Lucinda that's really interesting about milk, thank you!

Hues that is wonderful news. Huge congratulations to you- he is gorgeous. Relieved to hear that your sickness has gone too. You deserve some really lovely meals after all you've been through!!

Mummymulb16 · 20/08/2016 15:16

Congratulations absolutely Gorgeous . Enjoy your time and being able to eat too!

RaeSkywalker · 20/08/2016 15:17

I'm ok today- went to a 'yoga based' workshop earlier- which was actually very little yoga (probably for the best in my current state), but explaining a bit of hypnobirthing, relaxation and massage, and then a section trying out birthing balls. Feel quite relaxed now!!

I was going to do some work this afternoon but really can't be bothered. I think I'll head to bed for a nap, and maybe paint my nails. DH has started the baby's room, dismantling the current furniture and taking the doors off the built-in wardrobes. Exciting!!

The nausea isn't too bad after my late night, which has really surprised me. Yet normally when I get little sleep, the next day is horrendous! There's no rhyme or reason to HG sometimes...

LightTripper · 20/08/2016 15:57

Will check in properly in the morning but just wanted to say congratulations Hues he is so gorgeous!! After all you've been through I imagine you will probably be a bit up and down, it's a lot to get over. That potato sounds amazing! Congratulations again and just big hugs to you and your lovely family xx

LucindaE · 20/08/2016 18:31

Hues So happy to hear from you and that it's all over. What an adorable baby. So glad too, that like the huge majority of sufferers, despite the fact you were so ill for so long, you recovered so soon after the birth. StarFlowersBrewCakeGrin.
Rae I know; it's really odd about the acidic base of some foods and drinks you would never suspect.
Waves to all. Back soon.

Hues, congratulations, I'm just delighted for you! So brilliant that the sickness vanished so quickly, and now you can focus on recovery, and on your beautiful new baby. Flowers
Rae, that yoga workshop sounds nice. Hope you opted for napping and nails this afternoon, sounds just the thing for a Saturday.
Theatre trip went well thanks. Was lovely to spend some special time with DS, who until 3 months ago was still my 'baby' (although he is 4!).

Freshbreadandfaith · 20/08/2016 20:17

hues congratulations!!!

TwoDrifters · 20/08/2016 21:33

Just checking in to see how everyone is doing. Glad to see for some of you the nightmare of HG is over and the joy of your little ones having arrived is here!

MiniDrifters is now 7 months old but I still haven't forgotten how absolutely hideous HG is/was and when people ask me (as they all too frequently do!) when/if we're having the next one, I tell my DH "don't let me forget!!!"

Huge hugs for all those of you still suffering and an extra special star for LucindaE who I see is still doing her excellent job of mothering all and sundry! Smile

RaeSkywalker · 20/08/2016 21:46

Mop so glad that you had a good day with your DS. I painted my toe nails and then thought 'I'll just lay down and read for a bit'. Woke up 2 hours later! Hoping for a good sleep tonight- we're supposed to be visiting a friend 2.5 hours drive away tomorrow (they're a friend but it's more of a work thing for DH really, so needs doing)- it's been on the 'to do' list for a while so we've decided to just bite the bullet- I'm probably only going to get more tired the more pregnant I am. I hate car journeys, they make me really sick. DH has suggested that he go alone if I'm bad in the morning, so I think it will depend on how I am overnight. After this weekend I am tempted to say that I am only travelling small distances whilst still pregnant!

Two lovely I hear about life on 'the other side'. People are already asking me when I'll have another, which I think indicates a lack of understanding of just how traumatic and exhausting HG is. If I forget, DH definitely won't Grin

Mummymulb16 · 21/08/2016 14:55

I can't cope with this awful taste being sick every time I eat and having no appetite ! This can't be normal it's an illness and why it's not taken seriously pisses me off! I hate myself right night and can't cope anymore can someone tell
Me why doctors don't care? I have to keep going back for meds that just don't do anything !Angry

SleepymrsE · 21/08/2016 15:06

So pleased I came on here as I have just seen your desperate message mulb. So sorry to hear you're feeling so bad. It is an illness, you are right. Unfortunately it can take a while to get the right meds and most of us had to go through the motions. My GP was quite good in that we would try them for 48 hours and if no better then onto the next. However, even with all that it was only when I was admitted to hospital for the second time I had results. I had got myself into a stage of not being able to keep any meds down and therefore they were never going to help. The combination of being rehydrated and iv anti sickness meds allowed me to get on top of the meds. The consultant there put me on a combination of two meds as well which really helped. Do you have an out of hours clinic you could go to today? They may contact the pregnancy unit and get you admitted.

Hope others are doing ok? Even without DS ive been busy this weekend trying to get bits done that just never happens when you have a toddler! You nap sounds epic rae. I'm struggling even to nap at the minute, as soon as I lay down the heartburn kicks in and I just struggle to get comfy so end up just getting up.

Huge congratulations to hues, your DS is a cracker and I'm so pleased your sickness has gone.

Hi to everyone else!

LucindaE · 21/08/2016 18:24

mummymulb So sorry you feel desperate. I so agree with the excellent advice of SleppymrsE. What meds are you on? There are a variety to choose from. Dr's tend to hold out against the most effective - Ondansetron - because it is so expensive, but if sufferers get iller and iller they tend to give in. Would someone go with you as an advocate to back you up as it can be so difficult to fight your corner when feeling so ill. How are the ketones showing? I think that because it is by definition a women's illness, it is played down in a way it wouldn't be, if it was men suffering. But then I would say that, wouldn't I, being something of a matriarch? Grin
Rae Oh dear, it's not funny, but the image of painting your toenails and sleeping for two hours is so unlike your usual frenetic self - doing far too much - that I had to laugh. I'm glad you had a good rest. You deserved it!
TwoDrifters Lovely to hear from you. So it's been seven months, already ? Thank you so much for coming on to encourage others and the special star - over the August period, I think that should go to lovely MotherofPearl as I haven't been around much due to perambulating existence!
I hope everyone is coping today. Not too hot here. Dismal and rainy.
Watch me cross post with someone!

Hope you managed to get some rest sleepy

rae did you decided to do the long drive? Hope you managed ok if so. I really sympathise with the car sickness, did you suffer from motion sickness before HG? I was never one to be able to read whilst travelling in the back of a car but since becoming pregnant I really suffer even on a 15 minute drive up the road unless I'm driving, it's pretty tough!

mulb I'm so sorry to hear you are feeling so frustrated and down. It's bloody awful! Can you try another doctor tomorrow? Keep going back, there are lots of different options they can try and as someone mentioned already (sleepy I think), it seems a combination can work for people too. Good luck!

I'm struggling to sleep at the moment which isn't helping the sickness as am just exhausted all the time but managed to keep a few meals down this weekend so that's a positive I suppose. I'll be back to the doctors this week to try another antiemetic: so far, have tried cyclizine, Omeprazole and Prochlorperazine with no success. Fingers crossed for more luck this week.

Waves to everyone else - hope you've managed to enjoy the weekend

MotherofPearl · 21/08/2016 18:55

Just dashing on while I'm feeding the baby to sleep. Wanted to add to the excellent advice given to Mulb already. If your GP is unhelpful I would strongly suggest getting in touch with your local Early Pregnancy Unit, or failing that going to A&E. Hospital doctors tend to be much more experienced at treating HG, and much more likely to prescribe Ondansetron. They tend to use ketones as a measure of how bad you are, and anything of 3+ or more usually gets their attention and requires IV rehydration and medication. The IV treatment is really helpful at breaking the cycle of sickness, as Sleepy says.
Happy, good luck with getting a new meds regime this week. Btw, afaik omprezole is not an anti-emetic but treats acid reflux (which in itself obviously contributes to the sickness). I wonder if your GP would be willing to prescribe Ondansetron?
Sleepy, hope you've not been doing too many chores around the house? It's tempting when the house is child-free! My older two DC are off to DP's parents tomorrow and are staying for a few days. Will feel like quite a luxury just having the baby! Have a long list of stuff to do while they're away, but at least I now have the energy to do things.
Hang in there everyone; it's so tough but you're all doing amazingly. Keep on keeping on.

Apologies for duplicate post! Some kind of phone malfunction Blush

Mummymulb16 · 21/08/2016 19:23

Thanks for the advice ladies! I will try and go back I went last week Wednesday and got the one you put under your lip and gum. And I have tried cyclizine and omperazole for the reflux but nothing is working ! I will go back tomorrow all I can keep down at the moment is ice lollies, so feel I am getting some hydration. I just wish it wasn't a battle to keep going back and forth to get something that works i just wish they would give u something that works first time it's as if they just Palm you off with anything just so that you go away

RaeSkywalker · 21/08/2016 21:51

mulb you poor thing. It's awful feeling so ill and feeling that professionals aren't listening! I agree with others- I had more luck getting meds when taking DH and DM with me, they were able to explain how bad I was. DH emphasised how I am never unwell, and how worried he was to see me in such a state. This seemed to work quite well! Ondansetron has been brilliant for me, it's worth pushing for (though I only got it in hospital).

Thanks Lucinda. I obviously needed I'll good sleep! Grin

happy I managed it! So glad it's done. Was sick at services on the way home, but that's to be expected really. I was like you before HG- couldn't read in the car but didn't feel sick unless I did that. Are you struggling to sleep because of the heat, or the HG? Or both? Hope that you get on ok with the Dr.

Hope everyone is coping tonight Flowers
