I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Hi mummy, it can take a while to find the right meds or combination of meds. I tried them all (with the exception of the under the tongue one) and still ended being admitted for hydration. The combination of ondansatron & cyclizine has worked the best, and did reduce the sickness drastically although not the nausea unfortunately. I'm still on 4-5 tablets a day and sickness is ramping up a bit more with 7 weeks to go.

LightTripper · 17/08/2016 18:39

I'm taking Cyclizine and Metoclopramide Mulb. That takes me down to one vomit a day from what I suspect would otherwise be 3+, and also means I can work until about 3, whereas before I was struggling from 12.

What have you tried so far? I have found sometimes they take a few days to build up. Also early on my sickness was getting worse faster than the pills were making things better...

MotherofPearl · 17/08/2016 19:08

Happy, sadly I don't think anything totally eradicates the sickness, although for me Ondansetron made a huge difference, with ranitidine for the acid. As others have said, nothing seems to take away the nausea.
Mulb, can you remind me how many weeks along you are now? It's worth persisting until as Sleepy says, you find the right meds for you.
Rae, it's so tough feeling you have to put a brave face on it when I'm sure you just want to collapse in a heap on your sofa in your pjs. I eventually banned houseguests during my pregnancy, as it was too draining and always makes a lot of extra work. I hope you're not cooking for them? Let them eat take out I say!
Sleepy, hope you're not still clearing out your office?!

LightTripper · 17/08/2016 19:50

Bit of a weird one, possibly nothing to do with sickness, but last couple of days have noticed dark red and grey little flecks/marks under my eyes and in the creases at the outside. Anybody else had this?

Suspect it might be just from vomiting as my eyes always water and really strong when I throw up, but I don't remember it from last time...

SleepymrsE · 17/08/2016 20:21

Can't say I noticed them light but as I wasn't really paying much attention to my skin (let's be honest if I managed to shower once every 3 days it was a success, and don't think I brushed my hair in over 3 weeks). I'm sure it is probably related to little veins popping from vomiting esp if violent.

I actually moved office today mop so pretty much sorted. Too many people about today to do too much, as they tell me off. Seems strange to think I'm only going to be located with my new team for a few weeks, seems pointless getting my desk set up with my photos etc. Got a half day at work tomorrow and a child free weekend (teacher grandma is having DS) so can alternate between nesting and resting. Considering packing the hospital bag after the arrival of baby ickle so early. Or is 33 weeks too early? Don't think I did it with DS until 37 weeks.

SleepymrsE · 17/08/2016 20:24

Hope you're coping ok this evening rae, I would just make my excuses and head to bed early. Friends wil totally understand you needing your bed and rest. Luckily it is very rare that we have overnight visitors and when we do it's usually close friends/relatives who would understand. Hope you make it through the day tomorrow. Maybe organise to work from home on Friday if your diary allows? This would mean you could have a little lie in, stay in your pjs all day and have a sneaky lunch time nap.

RaeSkywalker · 17/08/2016 20:44

Mother no, I'm really lucky and DH is doing all that. I'm just realising how many things I do now to get myself through each day (quiet time, having a lay down, etc)- and I can't do any at the moment! It is lovely to see them though.

Light I agree with Sleepy- sounds like little capillaries bursting when you vomit?

Sleepy hope you are ok after the office move. I think I will speak to my boss about working from home on Friday- though it will depend on how busy tomorrow is! 😁

Just went for a (very) little swim. I think I needed the time alone so I'm glad I went, but it's definitely bed time now!!

MotherofPearl · 17/08/2016 22:51

Light, I remember having those - tiny red dots on the skin around the eyes - as the others say, it's tiny burst blood vessels from vomiting. Charming eh?
Sleepy, glad you'll have a good chance of rest this weekend with your DS away. I don't think it's too soon to make a start on your hospital bag. May put your mind at rest to know that it's sorted.
Rae, glad you enjoyed your swim and that your DH is entertaining your visitors.

LightTripper · 18/08/2016 07:40

Sleepy that sounds awful! I'm very lucky I'm only a bit queasy in the mornings, which is always when I notice these things. I can understand if you're feeling dreadful 24/7 you don't even look in a mirror to notice. Our lifts at work are mirrored with really harsh lighting so I am always shocked to see myself. So glad I am 12 weeks now. I'm hoping with the pills I might stop vomiting sooner than last time... Maybe only a few more weeks to go. I hope so.

I think you're all right, it must be burst blood vessels and then the grey is probably little bruises around older ones. Joy. But was a bit worried it might be drug related so good to know it's "normal" in some sense!

SleepymrsE · 18/08/2016 08:02

Horrendous night last night, up and down through the night to be sick. Every time I tried to settle back down I would cough or burp (tmi) and bring up small amounts of sick in my mouth. Urgh! Maybe the last few energetic days have taken their toll. Least I can have a nap when I get home from work at lunch today.

Hope everyone else has a good day.

happydays00 · 18/08/2016 08:26

sleepy I had a similar night! Maybe it's the heat too? Either way, just awful.! Hope lunch comes round quickly for you, I'm sure you are exhausted!!

I have a spa day today for my mum's birthday, lovely in theory, but terrified I will ruin it for everyone by breaking the melodic music tones and relaxing atmosphere by running to the toilets retching Envy

Mummymulb16 · 18/08/2016 08:34

I'm 7 weeks and I have tried cyclizine and not the one that goes under the lip and gum. I seem to vomit at every smell it's so annoying and I can't stand drinking anything even plain water I managed some cola yesterday even though I shouldn't but I needed something !

icklekid · 18/08/2016 08:40

sleepy and happy so sorry to hear about your horrendous nights not fun at all 😥 - sleepy make sure you do rest after you get home. happy I went to a spa day in peak hg suffering and was better than expected. They had a slumber room- worth seeing if the one your going to does?

light sorry to hear about red and grey dots / blood vessels pregnancy is so not glamorous at all.

rae you time sounds vital- and one of the things thats hardest with a newborn (and a toddler who follows me to the loo! 🙈) early bed times are the way to go!

mummy I think the feeling sickness can be hardest to get rid of and as long as you're hydrated some dr are less keen to keep trying drugs. How debilitating do you find the nausea?

Right need to get 2 children and me up and dressed in 30 mins...wish me luck!

icklekid · 18/08/2016 08:40

Crossed post mummy flat coke was amazing for me! Don't feel bad if it helps..

happydays00 · 18/08/2016 08:55

mummy agree that flat coke was a huge help. And sucking on mints. As for the smells, no advice there I'm afraid - everything had me running to the toilet. Just know it gets better and try to take comfort in the fact this it's extremely unlikely your super sense of smell will stick around for too long.

MotherofPearl · 18/08/2016 09:09

Mulb, 7 weeks is still early days, so potentially quite a few more weeks of sickness (sorry). Because of this I'd really suggest that you go back to the doctor and ask to try something different. Are you keeping hydrated? Do you have ketostix? As Ickle says, if coke is what works for you, drink it and don't feel bad. If you can't bear any liquids how about ice cubes? Some people can tolerate the juice from tinned fruit (peaches especially). Do keep us posted with how you're getting on.
Sleepy, sorry you had such a shocking night last night. At least you have a quiet weekend to recuperate.
Happy, equally sorry about your rough night. Hopefully the spa day will be relaxing for you.

Mummymulb16 · 18/08/2016 09:23

Can anyone recommend any drinks that have no sugar or sweetener in them ? For some reason after drinking anything sugary I tend to throw up so o seem to have a big aversion to sweet things !

LightTripper · 18/08/2016 10:03

Mulb second the others about trying something else with your GP. It's worth investing in pursuing your Doctor now as it may get a bit worse and you possibly won't feel up to it later (sorry).

Re: drinks I also find sometimes flat coke (straight or diet) goes down OK when other things won't. I also quite like citrussy things as I also can't face very sweet flavours. Last p/g I've just remembered I drank quite a bit of Rose's lime cordial - pretty weak but it was enough to slightly counteract that horrible taste in your mouth, and although I'm sure it does have some sugar the bitter/sour of the lime helps make it not "sickly sweet" - may be worth a go?

Otherwise maybe skimmed milk? I found that good in last p/g but somehow can't face it this one. I find it so annoying, a lot of the things that helped me last time (e.g. crisps) I just can't bear the sight of this time. Not sure if that is because my brain associates them with being sick last time - probably.

LightTripper · 18/08/2016 10:05

Just saw your latest Sleepy - so sorry you are having a hard time that sounds really tough. Is there any scope to take it easy for a day or two?

God that is a long way away...

Mummymulb16 · 18/08/2016 10:15

Thanks lighttripper yes I am finding everything that didn't work last time doesn't work now! Alll could drink last pregnancy was milk and cold water but now I can't stand either! I might take some of the meds this morning and see how I go I really just don't have an appetite for food nothing appeals to me!Hmm

LightTripper · 18/08/2016 10:27

The other thing I've had a lot of when I can't face water is water melon. It's not as sweet as normal melon and has a lot of water in. Might be worth a go? My OH has been finding them very cheap on our local fruit & veg market recently (2 whole small ones for £1!)

Mummymulb16 · 18/08/2016 10:56

I have some prepared melon downstairs but only like the white ones what are they called as might send hubby to buy a whole one ! I just want something to drink and not make me sick

LightTripper · 18/08/2016 11:11

Canteloupe maybe? Those are the yellowish/golden ones. Or honeydew are the more greenish ones.
