I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Hi ladies promised lucinda would keep popping in whilst she was absent and have done a rubbish job so far! I blame this newborn and toddler! However if it helps I still feel far better than I did all pregnancy despite sleep deprivation so it will all be worth it!

special good luck for today fingers crossed that pink castle will be home by this time tomorrow! Have they said about starting a drip at any point?

rae I know the work/ sicknes battle is a bit on going but do make the most of your boss being nice and try and work from home when possible. Being able to do an hour then rest for a bit will probably make you more productive in the long run.

LT sorry I know I've missed lots of the thread are you having amnio to determine risk? Have you heard of the harmony test? It varies in cost but is very accurate and non intrusive so no risk.

sleepy thinking of you in this heat especially!

Right best go before toddler gets bored of thomas!

SpecialStains · 15/08/2016 08:16

Hello all, still nothing. A few very mild tightening showing on the monitor, but all very anti climatic atm! Had a pessery in for 24hrs, now going to have gel inserted. Let's hope it does the trick. Hospital and midwives are fantastic!

LightTripper · 15/08/2016 10:30

Hello ickle: I am having something called "SAFE" - it's like Harmony but they do it at St George's Hospital in Tooting so you don't have to wait for them to send the blood to America and should get results in 5 days (theoretically!) But it's a blood test just the same: so not definitive but will give me either an extremely high or extremely low risk and then you only need to do CVS/amnio if you get the high result, just to confirm. Hopefully they'll be rolling this out across the NHS soon, but at the moment I still have to pay for it (cheaper than Harmony though to that's another plus!)

I'll put my DD in after Wednesday if there is still something there, as my reassurance scan moved my dates by a week but I suspect this one may well move them again! I'm roughly due late Feb/early March.

I've actually just been reading an interesting book my sister gave me called "expecting better" and apart from having a great title it says that in fact the risks that get quoted for amnio/CVS are based on very old data, and these days the m/c risks for either procedure are probably more like 1/800 or better even, because of better scanning technology than when they originally started quoting figures like 1/100 or 1/200. But anyway, hopefully won't need to go down that route!

I've been quiet as I've been feeling quite a bit less sick this weekend - haven't thrown up since Thursday. I'm hoping it's just the cumulative effect of the pills and getting more rest, or maybe just a normal decline - I was always told the placenta should take over at some point around now and make the sickness better but it never seemed to work that way for me! Anyway, still salivating like crazy and still have massive sore hot boobs by the end of each day (and, to be fair, still feel sick all the time - just not as sick as before!) - so hoping this isn't a bad sign and just a natural decline. Anyway, I'll know soon enough.

Thinking of you today Special. I was induced with my DD: they used the gel straight away and it was less than 24h until I was back in hospital, and about another half day to actually give birth. I did have my waters broken and the drip in the end, but it was all still fine and totally worth it to meet my little pickle!

Hope you had a good trip Lucinda and hope everybody else is fine!

SleepymrsE · 15/08/2016 16:15

Sorry to hear you are still struggling with work rae, I bet you are on count down to maternity leave too now. I have 14.5 working days left (over 4 weeks)!! Having a massive clear out of my office today which despite killing my back is quite therapeutic!

light will be thinking about you when you have your scan. I know this time I was much more paranoid about results of NT etc compared to my first pregnancy. I think you know more second time round which is good in some ways but not in others.

ickle hope things aren't too hard with DS and DD... You and mop are my guru's - I feel I may need a different support thread once baby arrives... How to cope with toddlers and newborns.

Thinking about special, hope baby arrives soon!!

Anyway, thought I would share the good news... No diabetes and no liver probs! Hurrah. Iron levels not really improved so more bloods in a couple of weeks and we'll see if I have another infection after tomorrow's sample has been dropped off.

MotherofPearl · 15/08/2016 18:58

Hurrah Sleepy, that's great news that you've been given the all clear on the GD and liver fronts. You must be relieved. Hopefully no infection either. Glad you're on the last leg until mat leave starts.
Light, interesting to hear about this new test and about the more up-to-date information about amnio/CVS risks. Sounds very reassuring. Wednesday not too far off now. Meanwhile glad to hear the sickness has eased off somewhat. How old is your DD?
Hopefully things are well underway now for poor old Special.
Cheery waves to Ickle!

icklekid · 15/08/2016 21:34

Looking forward to hearing good news from special soon. So close now...

sleepy honestly anyone who copes with toddler and hg can cope with toddler and newborn. I've found the whole experience much more manageable than I expected after first time round. Also accept all offers of help and never feel bad!

light sounds like you should get clearer results quickly and then at least know what to expect which is half the worry sometimes

Waves back to mop whilst ignoring dd stirring and thinking if this is an acceptable bedtime!

LightTripper · 16/08/2016 07:34

I was already asleep ickle so definitely an acceptable bedtime!

Vomming is back. That will teach me to worry about symptoms getting better Hmm

My DD is 2 MOP. Very cute but starting to get quite naughty, especially at throwing things. Every time we tell her off she says "but you can throw balls!!". Really hope she's not going to grow up to be a politician! Grin

Hope everyone is doing OK. One more day to scan. I'm hoping if I'm over 11 weeks they'll be able to give me an NT measure so I can get a bit if warning or reassurance while we wait for the genetic results...

Hope everyone has a good day x

RaeSkywalker · 16/08/2016 10:20

Mother trait hunk they can't hold it against me (make me have a disciplinary, or use it as a factor in deciding a redundancy, etc)- so that's something!

Light sorry that the sickeness has returned- though even a temporary reprieve is something to be celebrated I guess. Hopefully it's the start of an upward trend. Good luck for the scan tomorrow!

Sleepy I'm so pleased that your test results are clear 🎉🎉🎉 what a relief for you. I'm starting mat leave 2 weeks before I'm due, but will put holiday on the front of it if I have any left. Hoping to save another 2 weeks and finish a month before.

Special thinking of you!

I've given in and taken today as annual leave, so vegging out on the sofa. We have friends coming to stay tonight with their DD, and we're out with them tomorrow- so I need my rest! I also need to tidy the house but will do that this afternoon I think.

MotherofPearl · 16/08/2016 18:48

Light, 2 is a very sweet age (although brings its challenges too, that's for sure!). I bet your DD is going to be very excited when you tell her about being a big sister! Sorry to hear the sickness is back, but as Rae says, even a pause is helpful. Will be thinking of you tomorrow and keeping everything crossed for a successful scan.
Rae, I hope you spent today resting up and not tidying the house! Enjoy the visit from your friends - if you're feeling up to it, a bit of light socialising can be a good distraction.
Hope everyone is managing in this heat. I've had a lovely day out with the DC but feeling hot and exhausted now.

SpecialStains · 16/08/2016 19:23

Hello all, thanks for everyone sending me good vibes. My ds was born this morning at 7.45am weighing 6lbs12oz. He's lovely! Was a long and painful labour with so much vomiting they had to stick me on a drip, but the tea and toast afterwards was amazing.

I feel dazed and spaced out now.

SleepymrsE · 16/08/2016 19:42

Yay, huge congratulations special. Sorry to hear labour was long and hard but I suppose it's a fitting end to a long & hard pregnancy. Hope you aren't too sore and that recovery is speedy. Enjoy those wonderful newborn cuddles. There's nothing quite like them. Good weight too esp considering everyone was worried about size. Bigger than my DS who was only 6lb3oz.

Good luck tomorrow light, I'm sure everything will be ok but doesn't stop the worrying tonight. Hope you manage to get some sleep.

I've been doing more sorting at work today and must be in full on nesting mode as just sorted & cleaned half the kitchen cupboards too. Feeling tired now so I think bath & bed are in order. The rest of the cupboards can wait until later in the week.

Hi to everyone else, hope you've had a restful day rae. Also, worrying slightly about hues as not heard from her for a while.

MotherofPearl · 16/08/2016 19:54

Oh Special, I'm so relieved! Many congratulations to you! As Sleepy says, that's a good weight. Sorry to hear you had a hard labour, but so glad you've finally been able to enjoy that long-awaited and bloody hard-won tea and toast! Flowers
Sleepy, sounds like you've been very energetic in your clearing out and sorting! You're right that we've not heard from Hues for a while, or Happy for that matter. Hope they're OK. Enjoy bath and bed.

happydays00 · 16/08/2016 20:16

Congratulations special how lovely! Hope the recovery is as swift as possible for you and enjoy every minute with your ds!!

Good luck tomorrow light - fingers are firmly crossed for you.

mop thanks for your concern, I'm here - still suffering but doing ok. The pills have reduced the vommitting to about twice a day but still suffering with bad nausea and have had on and off migraines in this heat. On the plus side I've definitely felt less drained, which is a welcome change! Saw the midwife yesterday and heard the heartbeat and the baby having having a real wriggle so feel buoyed up from that visit!

Waves to everyone else tonight.

LightTripper · 17/08/2016 07:09

Hello all. Just a quick one as have to get up for the scan but wanted to say congratulations!! to Special!! Sorry it was a tough one but so glad it is all over for you and you are having newborn snuggles!

Thank you to everyone else for the good wishes! I'm feeling OK. Had a stress dream last night with work colleagues and Jeremy Corbyn in (?!?!) but this morning I'm mainly feeling excited. I think I'd be unlucky to have another MMC and although my trisomy risk is relatively high it's not absolutely high IYSWIM, so I'm trying to think positive. Feel a bit like before an exam I have revised for, rather than one I haven't!

Anyway, will check in later and let you know. Thanks for all the support.

icklekid · 17/08/2016 07:19

special huge congratulations Flowers so pleased it is over for you hope you and your ds got some sleep last night! Enjoy eating and hope sickness is totally gone!

rae hope you feel rested and can enjoy today

happy glad sickness has reduced sorry to hear about migranes. Hearing baby heart beat always cheered me up and helped me to get through the following few days feeling more cheerful!

LT Thinking of you and your scan today fingers crossed for positive news later will make sure I check back! My ds is 2 aswell- it is such a fun age but say the word no to him at the moment and things go flying! We're spending a lot of time outside Wink

sleepy I never really had a chance to nest but please do break it up and don't try and do to much- does delegating have the same effect as long as it gets done?

Mummymulb16 · 17/08/2016 10:39

Can someone please tell me how long the tablet under the gum and upper takes to dissolve I have had it on for 30 mins and it's still there Sad

LightTripper · 17/08/2016 10:46

Sorry Mulb I never had one of those ... that sounds quite long though, must be annoying! I wonder if drinking something first would help?

Just to let everyone know the scan went well. We saw our baby and the NT was low, so although we have to wait until next week for the full test results it's looking as positive as it could just based on the scan. The sonographer also put my dates back to where they were so I am officially 12 and a bit weeks pregnant, not 11 - yay! One less week of throwing up to go ... thank goodness.

Hope everybody else is doing well xx

happydays00 · 17/08/2016 10:48

Thanks ickle think it just reminds us that it will all be worth it!

hi mummy , for me the pill is dissolved after about 20-30 mins but sometimes a small part of it (or sticky substance) is left there for a lot longer. My advice would be try to forget about it and try and carry on as normal, I also put a mint at the other side of my mouth and this has helped a lot. It seems to dissolve a lot faster this way. Good luck!

SleepymrsE · 17/08/2016 12:10

Fab news light, you must be relieved. And lovely to see bubs wiggling around I bet.

MotherofPearl · 17/08/2016 13:32

Light, I'm delighted for you, that's great news! Must be a weight off your mind!
Happy, sorry to hear about the migraines. They seem to be particularly prevalent amongst HG sufferers; I'm sure there is a link.
Mulb, I had Buccastem for a few days, which is one of the dissolving ones, but I think like Happy, it was usually mostly gone after about 20 mins. I suppose I sometimes just rubbed it off with my tongue after a bit. I never really found they did much good anyway.

happydays00 · 17/08/2016 13:40

Congratulations light , missed your post earlier. Fantastic news!!

Did anyone find any of the pills completely stopped the sickness? Mine has definitely reduced but wondering whether it's worth me trying something else or whether I should just be grateful for the improvement and think there's only 3 months or so left to go?!

RaeSkywalker · 17/08/2016 16:49

Amazing news Special! Hope you're feeling ok!

Happy a good appointment can really lift your mood can't it. Really pleased for you. About the sickness- mine is mostly gone whilst medicated, but the nausea is still pretty bad.

Mummy mine took flipping ages- I recon about 30 minutes?

Light great news! Horray!!

I'm exhausted. I did spend a long time sorting the house yesterday and been out for a bit today. I'm so tired I want to cry! Our friends might stay an extra night, which is lovely, but does mean I'm having to put a brave face on things. DH isn't fooled though...

happydays00 · 17/08/2016 17:07

Oh rae can't you leave them to it for a bit so you get some rest?

Difficult I know, but I went to visit my DP's family a few weekends ago and paid the price until at least Wednesday the following week. Try and get some rest Smile

RaeSkywalker · 17/08/2016 17:12

DH keeps telling me to nap but I don't think I'll be able to relax properly. Was planning to go for a swim later- not sure if it'll be good (help me sleep) or bad (final nail in the tiredness coffin). Glad I'm not alone though happy- I think we'll have to get our heads around not having overnight guests until the baby is here and things have settled a bit. I've got work tomorrow too 😁

Mummymulb16 · 17/08/2016 18:03

I have only judged started with them today and at first thought they were good bu have had neither one this evening and I still feel sick! What do I do next? I'm on my second lot of anti sickness tabs
