We've got through a whole thread! Hope it's ok that I took the liberty of starting a new one.

Newbies, if you've had fertility treatment and found that it actually worked, this is the thread for you! We're a supportive group of women battling everything from scanxiety to unexplained bleeding, and we generally can't believe this is really happening for us!

First thread is here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pregnancy/2584015-Pregnancy-after-infertility

Weirdly I think codeine is fine in 2nd trimester - do you have any? Random but true.

I would definitely park in mother & baby spaces when heavily preg - no brainer!

Didn't take the ibuprofen in the end. Going to get some heat patches today for my neck to see if that helps. Will get some codeine in!

GenghisKahnSchmitz · 29/09/2016 07:31

Drink I hope your headache has gone? I suffer from migraines, though amazingly have only had one since being pregnant, though I've had lots of headaches. They suck, so lots of sympathy for you (and I have also only been allowed to take paracetamol so far but am interested in the codeine).

Thanks for the suggestions about the meds - the pen has partially been used and runs out mid 2017 so I guess I'll give it back to my doctor to dispose of.

MPP I'm not under the nhs but I had scans at 5 wks, 6 wks and then 12 weeks. It was a very long 6 week wait.

Good luck with your sweep today HP - come on baby!

How rude of them Boris though the lesson I am taking from your story is to always buy kitkats at the supermarket.

GenghisKahnSchmitz · 29/09/2016 07:32

Oh crossed posts. Good luck with the heat patches and codeine!

hellotreeshellosky · 29/09/2016 09:33

NHS website says no to codeine in pregnancy. No to ibuprofen after 30 weeks but occasional use before this unlikely to do harm. There is some other advice on there about headaches in pregnancy.

Hey all.
I hope you don't mind me joining. I'm 6.6 weeks pregnant after 3 years of infertility, I discovered I was pregnant the week before starting IVF.
I went to the epau last week because I had spotting and bad cramps. They did manage to see baby and the heartbeat so I felt incredibly lucky. However I received a letter from them saying that they saw an area of separation below the sac, so I'm back to being a nervous wreck.

Hi again Lucie, how are you feeling? Good luck today HP.
I hope everyone else is doing well too.

Blocksta74 · 29/09/2016 10:13

Hi all I hope you don't mind me joining this thread. I am 8 weeks today after 4 years ttc and 4 IVF treatments. This journey for me is such a roller coaster. I have started a new thread in case someone is going through something similar.

Our scan on Monday 7+4 weeks showed 4.8mm and a very low heart rate. She didn't bother calculating the bpm. She had arranged for another scan for Monday coming where I will be 8+4 at the EPU. I'm not holding out much hope and preparing that there might not be a heartbeat :-(

I still have some stmptoms like a thick set tummy, bigger and slightly tender boobs and sometimes a dizzy like I'm going to pass out feeling. I'm just wondering if this is all due to the progesterone I'm taking.

This is so stressful, I thought just getting pregnant was the difficult part but it looks like I might have to prepare for a miscarriage. At 42 I'm now trying to come to terms that we may not be blessed with a little one.

If anyone can give me any hope or send me positive vibes I will be greatly apreciated. I've read up and it looks like it's a 50/50 chance.

HP07 · 29/09/2016 14:08

Hi Friends and Blocksta, welcome to the thread. :)

Just got back from my sweep. It was successful this week! Horaay! I'm 1cm dilated and soft cervix. Still has a bit of length but could be enough to get things going. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed! Yippee! It was quite uncomfortable this week as again the baby's head was really far forward and she said it was really tricky to reach.

MPP81 · 29/09/2016 15:35

Haha, Vixx the idea of you starting to strip automatically for the midwife made me smile! I suppose we get so used to taking our clothes off for these random people!

Hmmm, I'm becoming more and more tempted to book another private scan after reading everyones comments. I might speak to DH later and see what he thinks.

Glad everything is looking good Hellotrees!!

Drink and Blondes thanks for your comments about the progesterone. I'll definitely taper off and see how it goes. Why is everything about this so nerve wracking??!! Drink I hope the heat patches help your headache.

Hi Friends! Lovely to see you here, though I'm sorry you've had worrying news from the epu. I hope you are ok.

Welcome Blocksta, though sorry also for your worrying scan. I don't know anything about your situation to offer advice I'm afraid, but I am thinking of you and have everything crossed for a positive outcome. xx

Yay for the succesful sweep HP. Won't be long now hopefully!!

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/09/2016 15:50

Friends. Wow. Amazing you fell before ivf - fab you heard heart as usually don't before 7w - hope you get reassuring news from doctors

Block - took me 5 private ivf to fall - so know how hard the struggle is :( sorry to hear baby heart is slow. Don't give up hope yet x

Hp. Yah for sweep. Hurry up baby

Vixxfacee · 29/09/2016 17:35

Come on baby HP!

Welcome newbies :)

MP it is so automatic from clomid cycles and the ivf!

Stressful day for me. Baby hasn't moved for 2 days. I tried everything but couldn't/can't feel anything. Went to the day assessment unit earlier and they found his heartbeat but said I'm so early sometimes you won't feel anything!
23 weeks today. I was feeling positive but I am back to worrying again!

Hope everyone else is good.

Blue2014 · 29/09/2016 18:54

Vixx - I'm 30 weeks now and have only been able to feel baby every day from 28 weeks. I think we will just worry at every stage though!

Welcome to newbies, I'm sorry you're both having a hard time right now, hoping for the best for you both

Hi to lurkers! Smile

Vixxfacee · 29/09/2016 18:56

Blue before 28 weeks how often did you feel movement? I have periods where I'm positive and days like today where I'm upset and can't see how this can possibly work out!

Blue2014 · 29/09/2016 19:30

Really quite little Vixx, I didn't start to feel him at all until 22 weeks and I really had to focus to feel that.

Even now when I feel him it's strong but it's not constant. My midwife gave me a leaflet on monitoring movement but only after my 28 week appointment. It's says to monitor movement consistently from 28 weeks and get used to your own patten. Mine is usually really quiet in the morning so I'm trying to panic less whenever I don't feel movement for the first hour or so in the morning.

I've also learnt ice cold water will make him wiggle a little if i do get panicked (but only for the last 2 weeks)

Vixxfacee · 29/09/2016 19:34

Thank you Blue. You have made me feel better.
Each chapter brings a new worry. When does the relaxing and enjoyment come!

Blue2014 · 29/09/2016 19:36

Relaxing and enjoyment? I'm not sure we get that SmileFlowers I'm less crazy than I was but not completely not crazy!

Vixxfacee · 29/09/2016 19:39
Grin
HP07 · 29/09/2016 21:09

Relaxing and enjoyment come in about 20 years time when you have raised the baby and sent it off to uni! ;)

Jenbot78 · 29/09/2016 21:38

Hello all and to the newcomers. I am also fairly new to this board, 8 weeks tomorrow. Pregnant after 3 years of infertility and two IVFs. What a tough journey we've all had!

Had scan yesterday at 7 weeks +5, all seems well so far. Couldn't believe it when I saw it, very emotional.

The stress doesn't leave though does it?! I have an underactive thyroid and this needs to be monitored really closely in pregnancy. Unfortunately there has been a major issue with the labs that deal with blood testing in the whole of Leeds where I live. This means that they are not processing any non urgent bloods so I have been waiting for over two weeks but still no sign of my results. The midwife says it's fine to wait this long, I quoted the NICE guidance which says otherwise but it didn't seem to register!

I ended up paying for a private test. GP thinks I'm mad but when you've spent thousands of pounds and a lot of emotional energy to get to this point what is another hundred quid?!

Friends and Blocksta sound like stressful times your end. Sending good wishes...

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/09/2016 21:49

Jenbot. Totally agree I've paid for blood tests privately as you say what another £130 when spent thousands

Vixxx try and not worry tho easy said. Sure I will worry every day till bubs is here

Blocksta74 · 29/09/2016 22:36

Thank you all! I will keep you posted on how Monday's scan goes. Fx I have a fighter in there.

Smurfy1981 · 30/09/2016 18:14

Welcome to all you lovely new ladies, lots of positive thought being sent ur way. I have had a pretty rotten week- struck down with a D+V bug late tuesday night and only just starting to feel human today, it was horrific 😡

stealthbanana · 01/10/2016 08:57

smurfy Flowers that sounds horrendous. Hope you're on the mend.

Wouldn't self prescribe codeine but it is definitely safe to use under doctor supervision and has been studied - see eg www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3214255/

27 weeks today! Grinding through those weeks. Don't think the stress ever leaves. 24 weeks was my last milestone (to viability) and now I'm focusing on getting to 30w. Oh to be a normal person and just expect the baby to arrive no problems!

Developing awful rib pain on my right side - my physio thinks it might be costochondritis. Am hoping it is that and not pre-eclampsia, gall bladder issues or any of the other terrifying stuff that rib pain seems to signify! It comes and goes but it terribly painful when here. Anyone else had it?

OP posts:
HP07 · 01/10/2016 09:10

Yes, yes Stealth. I had horrible right sided rib pain back in the summer and was referred to the physio who gave me some exercises to try and they helped a bit. I still have a very sensitive area under my ribs and I think it's where my skin and muscles have stretched so much but it is nowhere near as bad as it was. On my wedding anniversary in June we stayed at the hotel where we had our reception and I was awake almost the entire night because the pain was so bad I couldn't lie down. The physio said where I am petite and my bump is very much at the front it is pulling everything apart just a bit more than you would expect. Hope you feel better soon.

stealthbanana · 01/10/2016 09:47

Ah! Sorry to hear you suffered too hp. I'm also carrying small and with bump only in the front so perhaps that's it. I also broke a couple of ribs on that side 12 months ago so am wondering if there's still some weakness there that pregnancy is exacerbating. Gah! This is all so undignified.
