We've got through a whole thread! Hope it's ok that I took the liberty of starting a new one.

Newbies, if you've had fertility treatment and found that it actually worked, this is the thread for you! We're a supportive group of women battling everything from scanxiety to unexplained bleeding, and we generally can't believe this is really happening for us!

First thread is here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pregnancy/2584015-Pregnancy-after-infertility

Oh Vixx, just so pleased for you! And good luck to Smurfy.

We've decided not to find out the sex. The information is already available if we want it, through the genetic screen, but er might end up with a planned c section in which case we want some surprises!

Think I had my very first flutters the other day, very early at 14+4. But with my first pregnancy I felt them at 16 weeks so it's plausible. And it's really unmistakable!

Strength to you with ongoing sickness.

stealthbanana · 14/09/2016 07:58

vixx congrats! Welcome to the boy club. Sorry to hear you're feeling sick still, it's just the worst isn't it? I threw up 3 times yesterday. Gah!

smurfy good luck for today!

Hope everyone is enjoying this gorgeous weather!

I'm waiting for my first twin midwife appointment at the hospital, eek! Not really sure what to expect, so like an idiot I'm all nervous about it.

I'm fed up with feeling sick now (12+5) and that's on anti sickness meds. I think I'd be in hospital by now without them.

MPP81 · 14/09/2016 12:09

Hello all!

Apologies for the absence. We moved house on the 2nd and only just got our broadband back last night.

Sammy so glad your scan went well. I think with fortnightly scans, you will def have to get used to the scanxiety! Good luck with your midwife appointment!

Smurfy sorry to read about your fall. I hope you are ok. You must have been quite shaken up.

Congratulations on your little girl, Hellotreehellosky.

HP07 wont be long now!! Good luck!!

Blueroses I am still thinking of you xx

Ghengis glad your 12 week scan went well!!

Vixx Congrats on your little boy! :-)

AFM, I had my viability scan last week. Everything was where it should be, and we saw a heartbeat which was quite a relief and made me a bit teary. Tiredness is my only symptom - I'm shattered constantly!- but I seem to have escaped the morning sickness so far. I had my booking in appointment with my midwife on Monday, so nothing to do now but wait for my 12 week scan date.

Waves to everyone else!!

Itsme247 · 14/09/2016 13:05

MPP awesome to see you here too :) pleased your scan went well x

Smurfy1981 · 14/09/2016 13:05

Well thats scan doneA and all is fine and dandy with our "little BOY"!!!!

Itsme247 · 14/09/2016 13:06

Sammylou I have no idea what the midwife appointments are all about, do report back! Also, had my booking in appt last week - any other singleton pregnancy a being treated as high risk because of IVf?

Vixxfacee · 14/09/2016 13:12

Thank you stealth Smile eurgh cant believe you were sick that amount of times!

MPP glad your scan went well. Fantastic.

Congratulations smurfy. Another boy to add to the group!

Itsme247 · 14/09/2016 13:56

Congrats Smurfy!

stealthbanana · 14/09/2016 14:59

So many boys! hello your little girl will have plenty of potential suitors in the future Grin

I think they do say that IVF skews a bit more towards boys - no idea why

mpp thrilled the viability scan went well for you!

itsme - no, in fact the doctor made a point of saying that IVF was not a reason for high risk in and of itself

OP posts:
Borisisback · 15/09/2016 10:43

It'sme - Im not high risk, despite this being an ivf baby and my age.... I think there are too many if us ivf mums-to-be!

Itsme247 · 15/09/2016 11:30

That's annoying, I have a consultant appointment (as well as all the normal midwife ones) because their little booking form red flagged me because of IVf as a risk factor. Can guarentee I'll turn up and it'll be a waste of everyone's time. Urgh :( more time off work!! I took less time off when I was doing daily scans for IVF!

Itsme247 · 15/09/2016 11:34

To be honest I doubt my little doctors office is that equipped for out of the ordinary. I have spina bifida occulta (and my auntie had it too, but worse and died) and when I first started trying I went to the doctors to get 5mg of folic acid, point blank refused and said there was no evidence of hereditary neural tube defects and the normal amount would be enough. Sure enough, no-one else picked up on it so I thought i was fine until midwife said "oh so you'll be on 5mgs then" well no actually, and it's a bit fucking late now! So the only thing I can think it being is the folate absorption being hereditary? (Which I'm hoping isn't a problem with me, now I'm actually pregnant already) and everything will be fine on the scan.

Grumpelstiltskin · 15/09/2016 11:42

Itsme I was also initially given consultant-led care because of the IVF (and a somewhat gippy thyroid) but all the other booking-in checklist stuff suggested low-risk. After initial consultant 16 wk appointment I'm now back to midwives only. Think they just like to check you out initially as IVF can sometimes be an indicator for slower fetal growth - and in my case they've recommended baby aspirin to help support growth and blood flow going forward. But yes, bit of a PITA!

Great boy news, smurfy! Lots of boys on this thread now (more if sammy's initial scan prediction is accurate!)

Smurfy1981 · 15/09/2016 11:51

I am consultant led- because of ivf

Blue2014 · 15/09/2016 12:21

I'm consultant led because of IVF and age (37). Means extra scans and appointments but also ten bloody Fragmin injection (which I'll be asked to start from Friday) you'd have though IVF-ing would have got me used to needles by now but no Hmm

My little one is also a boy

Vixxfacee · 15/09/2016 12:34

I had a consultation appointment at 13 weeks. Pretty pointless as she just went over blood test results from my booking in appointment.
She then offered me an induction at 40 weeks (she said she offers this to all ivf pregnancies). Then she discharged me and said there's no risk. I will be doing the diabetes test in a few weeks though due to being pcos.

Itsme247 · 15/09/2016 13:23

Do they induce at 40 weeks because you know for exactly how long they've been in there for?

Blueroses99 · 15/09/2016 13:50

Like Grumpel, I was high risk due to IVF until 16wks when I was downgraded to low risk but prescribed a low dose of aspirin. There was no difference in my treatment plan until after 24wks, which obviously I never reached, so at least I know that I wouldn't have had extra appointments etc if they had left me at high risk. I don't really know why they changed me though, and it's a key question for the consultant appointment I have next week. Confused

MPP81 · 15/09/2016 14:58

Thanks everyone!

Smurfy, congrats on your little boy!! :-)

Itsme, at my booking in appointment, I was also told I will be consultant-led, as the IVF makes it a high risk pregnancy. It seems as though different places have different ways of doing things.

Blue2014 · 15/09/2016 17:06

They plan to induce me if I go over 40 weeks too, purely cos of IVF

Vixxfacee · 15/09/2016 18:07

Are you going to take the induction?

Borisisback · 15/09/2016 18:29

Blue we are the same age, also Ivf pregnancy. But I'm not being induced early nor do I get extra appointments or injections. Love the consistency of care.

Itsme I also have close family issues with spina bifida and had total contradictory advice about folic acid. I was told that I didn't need the higher dose as Id been taking the suppliments for years.....

Blue2014 · 15/09/2016 18:30

I'm not massively happy about it but I think I will, got a consultant appointment to discuss it tomorrow but on the balance of things I'd feel too awful it I said no and then something went wrong. I had initially said no. I'm hoping he makes an arrival just in time instead!

I also don't want to take the Fragmin and don't really think I need it but it's been such a hard slog getting to the point of actually being pregnant I feel obliged to do it all 'just in case' Confused

Blue2014 · 15/09/2016 18:32

It's crazy isn't it boris, I know my trust are hyper sensitive to IVF but on the plus side it has meant extra scans and I don't mind that bit of extra reassurance. I moved house whilst pregnant and my old trust had nothing in place for IVF pregnancies only 30 mins away from each other!
