We've got through a whole thread! Hope it's ok that I took the liberty of starting a new one.

Newbies, if you've had fertility treatment and found that it actually worked, this is the thread for you! We're a supportive group of women battling everything from scanxiety to unexplained bleeding, and we generally can't believe this is really happening for us!

First thread is here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pregnancy/2584015-Pregnancy-after-infertility

sammy glad you have seen someone. Ketones are basically your body starting to eat itself so do take the drugs (and don't stop when you start to feel better - otherwise you'll relapse!). Rest up Flowers

Stealth - I'd it usually a cumulative thing or should one tablet have the same effect?

HopefulKate1980 · 13/08/2016 14:48

Bless you thanks hello

Welcome home from holiday! Where did you go? We are in Croatia but all I can think about is my scan on Wednesday (11w1). Aargh!!

blueroses my heart goes out to you. Hope you are finding some comfort in the love of family & friends. Lots of love and thoughts xxx

Smurfy1981 · 13/08/2016 21:51

Aw sammy poor you, i found it awful enough witht the sickness inhad, but no where near as bad as you- i am 15 weeks today and think i am now over that- occasional dry boalk but thats it !! Been away for my maternity bra today- the lady in mothercare was sooo nice and helpful. Welcome mow. Hope u are relaxing on ur hols kate xxx

hellotreeshellosky · 14/08/2016 08:37

Kate France for a week and then a festival, was lush. I went to Croatia years ago, would love to go again. Wednesday is not long to wait, three more sleeps!

Glad you had a good experience Smurfy. There is a pretty awful review of mothercare bra fitting on the Better Bra Campaign blog! This time around I've decided I ain't giving up my wires for anyone!

stealthbanana · 14/08/2016 10:05

sammy - I think it's cumulative in the sense that (a) once you have ketones in your urine it takes awhile for your body to get better so you need to keep taking the meds to let it recover and (b) optimally it's better to stay well rather than let yourself get worse, then when it gets really bad take a tablet, then feel better, then repeat cycle (iyswim). Without sounding too much like a schoolmarm, really the best thing for you and babies is to be getting consistent nutrition and hydration, and if you're not eating 4 out of 5 days that's not happening. So I think most people recommend taking them consistently through to at least 12 weeks. I took mine constantly through to 13 weeks and they were a lifesaver.

Question for you lot - is anyone planning a babymoon last-gasp type holiday? We are planning on having a week off in October - I'll be 29 weeks (all being well). What I really want to do is go somewhere properly lush like the Maldives, but am guessing that's not v sensible in terms of being close to hospital if something goes wrong. Any ideas?

Borisisback · 14/08/2016 14:26

Stealth we will do a long weekend away in a European city. Nothing more adventurous. We've travelled a bit whilst pregnant, the insurance is fine for pregnancy related issues but I think not for generally not for delivery complications so do think it through.

stealthbanana · 14/08/2016 14:32

I'm not so worried about insurance as my health insurance covers me WW and for all pregnancy/delivery stuff (it's a gold plated US policy that has been a lifesaver through IVF and pregnancy - it covers everything, even acupuncture, massage and pre natal vitamins!). Am more thinking of if something goes wrong how quickly can I get to a decent hospital - but then perhaps I'm overreacting?

I am torn - boris your plan is much more sensible but I just know I'll be desperate for some sun!

hello that sounds gorgeous!! And thanks.
V nervous.

stealth your insurance sounds amazing! Is that through work? My bupa through work basically gives me naff all.

The Maldives sounds perfect. My best mate went to the Caribbean when she was around 6/7 months pregnant and was fine. But of course it's all so personal. As long as there is a decent hospital nearby I'd feel reassured.

Xx

loopylou1984 · 14/08/2016 15:57

Obviously you have to consider Zika now too. We have a week off at the beginning of November and are now thinking a cosy cottage somewhere with the dog! Xx

loopylou1984 · 14/08/2016 15:59

Thank you stealth - I'm keeping them up at the moment and feeling a lot better :). Xx

Grumpelstiltskin · 14/08/2016 16:57

Stealth- also currently considering some winter sun in Oct. Am entirely unhelpful re suggestions (though in a similar way I've always rather fancied the Turks and Caicos Wink!) but will be interested to hear what you decide upon.

Sammy glad to hear the meds are helping you feel better.

Good luck for next week Kate!

stealthbanana · 14/08/2016 20:15

Yes Zika is a real pain! We were actually booked to go to Tulum (long before this pregnancy became reality) but obv have to cancel that now. But really painful - the Caribbean was basically made for babymoons but most of it is Zika riddled. Bermuda is allegedly still ok (not sure why?) so that's on the list.

grump a good friend of mine has a house in the t&c and it is stunning! But zikaed sadly.

So far on the list we have Bermuda, Oman, Maldives or Ibiza. Any other bright ideas?!

sammy hope you're feeling better x

Kate no scan now until 2 Sep so I will be 14 weeks then almost ...pushed for late as possible for the dating scan (even though I have had several early scan). Ball ache is that I have to see a Dr every time as I'm a 'special case'!! The nurse the last day said it was the worst case of OHSS she had ever seen, bloody hell I just want to enjoy my pregnancy for a while now.
Best of luck for your scan!!

sammy poor you, hope you are feeling better and the tablets are kicking in.

Very jealous of everyone with their sun holidays, we are bloody broke after £10k IVF so will have to hang tough for another few months. Maybe a sneaky winter city break.

Stealth highly recommend Dubai in October, weather perfect temp and healthcare (all American system) is world class, there's a private hospital with A&E on every corner. Would probably avoid any small island resort as you can't guarantee the care but that's just me!

mowglik · 15/08/2016 00:12

stealth I would love to do a baby moon but the whole Zika thing scares me. We will probably end up doing a uk break (if all goes well). Maybe it's a better idea to go for a holiday after the birth? I went to Egypt when ds was 7 months and it was great, he had long naps in his pushchair while we had long lunches and dinners Grin

GenghisKahnSchmitz · 15/08/2016 02:05

Glad to read you're starting to feel better Wizzi and Sammy!

I'd love to go to Oman Stealth as I've heard such great things from people who've been there but have no idea about healthcare etc. We head back to Europe for Christmas and are also thinking of a holiday in Japan but will see how everything goes.

mowglik · 15/08/2016 16:11

Have just had my scan and one little bubba there with a strong heartbeat! I was worrying so much I was feeling faint at the appt but am so grateful it has turned out OK.

We had 2 blasts put back in, very glad we did that now as no way of knowing which one took.

Good luck to anyone else who has scans coming up soon Smile

Smurfy1981 · 15/08/2016 17:01

Aw thats lovely mow x

HopefulKate1980 · 15/08/2016 17:10

Congratulations mow!! Great news. How far along are you?? Xx

mowglik · 15/08/2016 17:42

Thank you Grin I am 7w5 atm - I was concerned about the lack of symptoms at this stage but the consultant said it was fine and to count myself lucky esp at my age which made me Hmm a bit (I'm 36)

GenghisKahnSchmitz · 16/08/2016 07:24

Your consultant sounds like a charmer! Great news about the scan though Mow.

Borisisback · 16/08/2016 10:12

Wtf is it with people's bump comments? Have any of you got a good response? I've had three people today asking me if I'm sure it's only one baby in there. How do you respond to that?!

Rant over

How is everyone?

Grumpelstiltskin · 16/08/2016 11:19

I got asked that today boris and I'm 13+4! BlushI just went with a cheery 'yes, we've checked' and 'it's just the carb bloat' (it blatantly is). But give me a few weeks and some more tactless morons and I will inevitably be much grumpier.
If you wanted to shut them up I guess you could always sweetly ask when THEIR baby's due...

Lovely news about your scan mow, such a relief to see a hb!

Kate is your scan tomorrow?

HopefulKate1980 · 16/08/2016 16:02

Hi grumpel yes it is. I'm not sure what to do with myself! I can't think about anything else today. We got back from holiday a few hours ago and already the fear is creeping in. I'm still suffering with sickness but I've heard that some people still get symptoms even though their baby has stopped growing so that is niggling at me.

I haven't had any bump comments yet as I've been on holiday so haven't seen anyone but there is definitely one there, although it's obviously a beautiful conbo of wind, bloat, water retention and drug induced puffiness!!! I think if anyone from my family sees me, especially towards the end of day, they'll suspect something is up...

boris remind me how far along you are??

mow cheeky consultant!! What did he mean? Are symptoms worse the older you are? I'm 36 too but haven't heard that!

X
