We've got through a whole thread! Hope it's ok that I took the liberty of starting a new one.

Newbies, if you've had fertility treatment and found that it actually worked, this is the thread for you! We're a supportive group of women battling everything from scanxiety to unexplained bleeding, and we generally can't believe this is really happening for us!

First thread is here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pregnancy/2584015-Pregnancy-after-infertility

Good for you. You can't be at work if you feel the crap. What do you do? Can you rest today?

loopylou1984 · 12/08/2016 10:58

I'm an administrator in a busy office. It's impossible to hide my trips to the loo and staring at a screen all day doesn't help the sickness. I can rest today if I stay home, but can't relax as am waiting for her reply. A lot of this sickness is down to having barely eaten I'm sure but I'm trapped in a viscous cycle.

HopefulKate1980 · 12/08/2016 11:04

God that's tough. Sounds random but I've found cheese helps my sickness. Little and often. Again it's easy to say but I know what it's like when nothing seems to be helping. Hope she replies and is understanding. Does she know you are pregnant? Xx

loopylou1984 · 12/08/2016 11:16

Yes, and she know the circumstances. DH seems to think this will mean she is fine with it, but she has previously told me that they'll expect me in every day at some point.

Cheese - okay, worth a try!

stealthbanana · 12/08/2016 11:30

Poor Sammy. With twinnies remember your hcg levels will be extra high this all the nausea. Maybe cook some plain rice and then just have a couple of mouthfuls at regular intervals? And do make sure you keep your fluids up even if you're not eating. I found fizzy water and appletise far more palatable than flat water when i was feeling rough in first tri.

Thanks Stealth. I just feel useless. Other people seem to just carry on, and here I am crying into my lunch. Even another 4 weeks of this seems unbearable. How does everyone cope with work?

HopefulKate1980 · 12/08/2016 12:05

Don't feel useless lovely. It's so normal.

Work was tough for me with the tiredness but thankfully I went on holiday at 9 weeks when the nausea really kicked in and work was slowing down before then anyway. I was v lucky. If we have a good scan (please please) I'll be going back to work as 12 weeks and hopefully I'll feel better then.

If I'd been at work during my vomiting marathons over the past two weeks I would have called in sick. Feel for you.

Remember though it's illegal to discriminate against you when you are pregnant. Once you find the food and tricks that work for you, you'll be able to cope better I'm sure. xxx

loopylou1984 · 12/08/2016 12:48

I'm only 8 weeks today and am terrified that it's going to get worse over the next couple of weeks. I wish I could take holiday, but someone is already off so I don't think it will get authorised.

Thank you, it's just tougher than I expected.

stealthbanana · 12/08/2016 13:46

Honestly sammy if I could have taken sick leave I would have but I don't have that type of job. I also have the benefit of being able to completely set my own schedule - I could choose to work from home on v barfy days, cancel meetings, lock my office door and lie down on my sofa in the middle of the day etc. The quid pro quo of not being able to take time off. Don't feel useless, you can only do as much as you are able - it's definitely not mind over matter!

Even now I've realised I just have to slow down a little as I simply don't have the energy levels I had before.

And if you're feeling really rotten once again I'd encourage you to ask about antiemetic medication. That's what it's there for, and it really does help xx

Hey guys has anyone had a slight cramping at 10weeks but no blood?
I had an early scan yesterday and the baby was doing well. Heartbeat was 180bpm but today I've been getting these cramps. Is this normal or should I speak to my midwife?

FlowersFlowersFlowers

loopylou1984 · 12/08/2016 14:49

Stealth I'm worried about the drugs and the effect on the babies. I also feel like I should do without as I'm not actually being sick.

Debie - I'm sorry I'm not there yet so can't comment, but I hope everything's ok. Xx

HopefulKate1980 · 12/08/2016 15:11

debie I can't help either I'm afraid. I'm 10w3 and the only cramps I've had were earlier on around 8 weeks. Call your EPU if you are worried. From what I'm read on here, I think it's v normal to have cramping due to stretching etc... Try not to worry xxx

Borisisback · 12/08/2016 15:17

Sammy - if you are sick you are sick - Sod work call in. I think we all go through a stage wondering how we will survive abd how anyone copes with being pregnant and work / life. It's hiddeous but it passes.

Debie - I had horrible cramping for a couple of days at 9 weeks - really painful. I didn't have bleeding though. If you are worried call your doctor / midwife. If you have pain and bleeding go straight for medical help. Xx

stealthbanana · 12/08/2016 16:07

I had lots of cramping at around the 10w mark. It's your uterus stretching. If there isn't any blood I think it's fine.

sammy the drugs are safe. Many of them have been used for decades. They are there to make you feel better - there's not a hierarchy of how bad you objectively need to feel. There's a thread somewhere in this section about using drugs to quell nausea (without vomiting) - you should have a read.

FYI I'm not trying to push you into taking anything, if you feel it's not right for you that's fine. Just encouraging you not to worry! Flowers

Sammy - I've pm'ed you

loopylou1984 · 12/08/2016 16:36

I've seen it Boris, and replied.
I know it's for a good reason, I just wish I had some breaks from the nausea so I could eat an actual meal!

Stealth - I didn't take it that way at all. Thank you for the reassurance. I think I am going to have to see the doctor, I have lost over a quarter of a stone already. I'll take a look at that thread too. X

mowglik · 12/08/2016 17:00

Hi all - just tentatively coming on to this thread, I've been lurking but not joined in yet. I'm 7 weeks following my first IVF cycle but not had my viability scan yet which is on Monday. Bit scared as I don't have many symptoms but am hopeful for Monday!

Hope everyone else is going well, sammy congrats on the twins read on another thread - hope the nausea eases for you, it sounds really tough but they say MS eases off at 12-14 weeks don't they!

mowglik · 12/08/2016 17:03

Oh also, my sister had to take anti-emetics for both her pregnancies as she had severe HG and she considers it a godsend. At the first sign of nausea and vomiting in her second pregnancy she went to her GP for them and she found her second pregnancy a lot better than her first

stealthbanana · 12/08/2016 17:09

sammy yes weight loss is not great and it probably also means you are dehydrated which is also not good. Take care of yourself and definitely discuss with your doctor. There are a few different types of drugs and everyone responds differently to them so don't be afraid to push for something that works for you. I think many doctors take the view that we are meant to be "gestational martyrs" whilst pregnant and it's just not right xx

sammy sorry to hear you are feeling rough though great news on the identical twins. Exciting times!
Second that on the anti nausea tablets, I was prescribed with OHSS and took for a week. Perfectly safe in pregnancy so definitely worth speaking to your GP about what's right for you.

Stealth your weeks are flying in, you won't find it until the big day!!

Hopeful Zenzie genghis and everyone else, hope you are doing ok and muddling through these tough few weeks.

10 weeks today woohoo! Still queasy but having a few good days amidst the bad so there is light at the end of the tunnel 😀

loopylou1984 · 12/08/2016 18:56

DH took one look at me and rang the doctors. I have anti nausea meds now and instructions to go to the hospital tomorrow if no better as there are ketones in my urine which is apparently a sign of early starvation.

Good luck for Monday Mow! We're at pretty similar stages, I'm 8 weeks today! Xx

loopylou1984 · 12/08/2016 18:56

Wizzi - good to hear there is an end in sight!

HopefulKate1980 · 12/08/2016 19:37

sammy so pleased you are being treated! You poor thing. What are ketones? Hope you feel better soon.

Good to know the end is in sight wizzi!! You give me hope. When is your next scan?

Welcome mow!!

Xx
