We've got through a whole thread! Hope it's ok that I took the liberty of starting a new one.

Newbies, if you've had fertility treatment and found that it actually worked, this is the thread for you! We're a supportive group of women battling everything from scanxiety to unexplained bleeding, and we generally can't believe this is really happening for us!

First thread is here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pregnancy/2584015-Pregnancy-after-infertility

Good luck sammy and hp xx

loopylou1984 · 09/08/2016 10:22

Thank you everyone for the well wishes, we saw 2 lovely heart beats!
They are identically so one embryo didn't make it, but the other one split.
I think I'm in shock. Xx

Borisisback · 09/08/2016 10:32

Oh sammy! How anazing. I'm sorry for your lost embryo but amazed at yiur identical twins! Big congrats to you. Xxxx

nightandthelight · 09/08/2016 10:38

Congrats Sammy so happy for you!

GenghisKahnSchmitz · 09/08/2016 10:39

Sammy - congratulations! What wonderful news - absolutely thrilled for you and your DH!

Beansprout30 · 09/08/2016 10:53

sammy you probably don't remember me from bumsnet but I just wanted to say a huge congratulations! And Twins?! So pleased for you x

Grumpelstiltskin · 09/08/2016 11:07

Sammy Oh wow! Identical twins! GrinGrin So, so happy for you and DH! I guess that the loss of one emby also explains the bleeding and hopefully puts your mind at rest at bit. Amazing that you have the two heartbeats.
(Also somewhat amazed that a scan can tell at 7 wks that it's definitely a split embryo and not your second one- yay for technology). Hope you have a wonderful happy day. Xx

Smurfy1981 · 09/08/2016 11:56

Wow thats amazing sammy soo pleased for u xxx

Zenzie · 09/08/2016 12:12

Oh my goodness Sammy! Such news! I'm so thrilled that everything is going well and healthy - twice! Just so pleased for you. Imagine if both embryos had implanted - and divided

Fun times here - I've been quite unwell the last couple of days, culminating in nasty shivering sweaty fevers and all-over aches. I spoke to my specialist yesterday who said to see a GP today if still no better. I still felt a bit rough so I went, but there seems to be nothing untoward. I'm glad - I suspected it could be a UTI (though with very few symptoms) and apparently they can be a problem in early pregnancy - including leading to preterm labour. I'm feeling much better today, thankfully, especially with a 3-year-old to entertain.

eskimoflo · 09/08/2016 12:12

Just popped on to say a massive, massive congratulations to Sammy. I haven't posted much on here since my early days. but I've been lurking. Sammy you deserve this so much- it was definitely your turn! Grin Grin Grin Much love x x

loopylou1984 · 09/08/2016 17:20

Thank you everyone! DH and I are starting to get our heads round it. I think my mum is a bit worried about me as I'm not a very big person. Xx

loopylou1984 · 09/08/2016 19:42

I have a progesterone question. My nurse told me I can stop taking them now that we have seen the hesrtbeat(s)... Does this seem right? Before today I was under the impression that I'd stop at 12 weeks.

HopefulKate1980 · 09/08/2016 20:04

CONGRATULATIONS Sammy!!! Such amazing wonderful news. Wow. What miracles life throws our way! You must be over the moon! Congrats.

I was told I'd stay on progesterone until 12 weeks too. Maybe double check. How many weeks are you??

Sorry to hear you are feeling crap zenzie.

We've been on a roadtrip today in Croatia and I was sick by the roadside on three separate occasions. 10w today. It's driving me insane but long may it continue if it means the little one is growing!!

Lots of love to everyone.

Wow identical twins sammy!!! Wow wow.

Xx

stealthbanana · 09/08/2016 20:11

sammy your nurse is wrong! You should stay on progesterone until the placenta takes over, which happens between 10-12weeks. Given that too much progesterone isn't an issue, most women seem to stay on it until 13w (I certainly did). You should double check that things don't happen differently for twinnies Grin but i doubt it.

sorry to hear you're feeling rough kate and zenzie. Enjoy Croatia Kate!

Right, I'm off to tell my boss I'm pregnant. Wish me luck!

That's what I thought. In my post scan haze I missed my lunchtime one, but have just taken my night time one early. I hope I haven't risked anything?

Borisisback · 09/08/2016 20:27

Actualy (sorry) the scientific evidence (I'll try and find the source) does show that you can stop the progrsterone at the point you are at, and even before, but most clinics don't. But sammy Id keep taking it for reasurance.

Borisisback · 09/08/2016 20:31

One of the studies re progesterone/
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0054147/

loopylou1984 · 09/08/2016 20:31

She said to wean myself off, so cut down to two a day this week, then one a day then stop. I have s repeat prescription from the GP though so I think I'll keep going a bit longer anyway.
Thank you Boris, I was panicking!

Borisisback · 09/08/2016 20:34

Or read it here: www.crd.york.ac.uk/crdweb/ShowRecord.asp?LinkFrom=OAI&ID=12013011491

I can't find the other studies

But as I said I'd keep taking the progrsterone as if you don't, and something happened you'd always wonder 'what if'

Borisisback · 09/08/2016 20:36

Sammy I had side effects of stopping the progesterone (at 10 weeks) definitely wean your body off them slowly. I have spare ultrogestan packet(s) if you needed them.

stealthbanana · 09/08/2016 20:54

Ah! Thanks Boris. I stand corrected. I was always told 10 weeks was the earliest.

OP posts:
Grumpelstiltskin · 09/08/2016 20:56

Sammy I used my last pessary yesterday (hooray!) at 12+3. Concur with the others that continuing progesterone till 12 weeks is seemingly the usual clinic advice and that if it were me at your stage I'd want to keep going just in case.

Hope your full disclosure went well, stealth! Any bump yet?

Smurfy1981 · 09/08/2016 21:53

Ladies i was given enough to last me until
My 7 wk scan, then had 2 left- was told to take them then that wa sme finished- ive not used anything apart from folic acid and multi vitamin

loopylou1984 · 10/08/2016 07:22

Oh really smurfy? I'm glad I'm not the only one who had this advice. Are you with a CARE facility by any chance?

Boris - what side effects did you have?

Borisisback · 10/08/2016 07:29

Sammy I think I had horrible headaches and stomach pains. I went cold turkey off the pills but should definitely have eased myself off them slowly.
