Hi Girls

We found out on Good Friday that we're expecting our first child and we won't be telling our parents for a few weeks so for now I thought it was worth starting a thread so I've got a place to get excited about all things baby with people due at a similar time - without chewing DH's ear off about it constantly. Bless him he's excited too but I seem to want to talk about nothing else right now which is hard seeing as we're the only ones that know our little secret!

My EDD is 2nd December according to the NHS website which makes me 4+5, and I've got my first doctors appointment this Friday. I understand they won't really do or say a lot but think they'll refer me to the midwife? Or do I do that myself?? Anyway, I'm excited!!!

Hope everyone's feeling good and upbeat, looking forward to some due date buddies to chat to Smile

Glad it's not just me! I'm going shopping for maternity clothes this weekend too, didn't have them until I was about 12 weeks with baby 1

Rugby01 · 06/05/2016 09:29

Hi youngoldmum - yes I also have a distinct belly now and I have three weeks til the scan and til k can tell anyone. I think it's cos I'm usually quite small and it's shows up quicker. I did read you show quicker with your second though?

berkshiregirl2016 · 06/05/2016 10:01

Morning ladies,
I've had a lot of tugging/pulling sensations, but don't worry, it's completely normal. Our bodies are changing so much and it's really weird. I have to stand up very slowly as it gets me otherwise. As long as you don't have real pain/bleeding I believe it's ok.

Youngoldmum, I'm usually a 14-16 and have lost half a stone with vomiting, but I'm so bloated that things aren't fitting across my belly properly anymore. I know from friends that when you've had one before you start to show much earlier too.

Helbelle75 · 06/05/2016 11:39

Yep Youngoldmum, I'm a 10 as well, always had a lovely flat stomach (worked hard for it!) and have a distinct bump. I suspect it's bloating and water retention though. Luckily I wear quite floaty dresses, so it's not hugely noticeable yet.

Vb87 · 06/05/2016 15:26

My boobs have grown loads so that and a bit of a round tummy, unfortunately I look fat rather than pregnant lol

berkshiregirl2016 · 06/05/2016 16:10

Vb87 I know exactly what you mean! I've always been busty and looked it, but now my stomach almost sticks out further than they do! I kind of just want to go straight to a proper bump so that I don't just look podgy and it's obvious that I'm pregnant.
Hope everyone has a restful weekend and enjoys the sunshine x

Vb87 · 06/05/2016 20:53

Anyone know of any pregnancy friendly alternatives to a glass of wine? Having a bit of a stressful night and need help calming down Sad

lovewatchingrainfall · 06/05/2016 21:56

Vb87 you can get alcohol free wine not the same tho. I have gone to having a glass of Sholer in a wine glass. It looks the same and makes me free better. Plus they now do it in a champagne bottle got a tad excited in Tesco today.

Hope all are okay. DH cooked an amazing roast today however the smell in the house has made my nausea so much worse Sad

Rugby01 · 06/05/2016 23:40

Hi all. Must try the fake alcohol idea. Really miss it! I've been an emotion wreck today. Went to a works do tonight and got so frustrated at not being able to do things/needing to go home early as knackered, but not being able to tell anyone WHY. it is draining and I feel like they all think I'm just lazy and crap. I want to scream 'it's not cos I'm lazy!! It's because I'm pregnant!'
I'm even crying at small things. It so strange.

berkshiregirl2016 · 07/05/2016 07:14

Morning ladies, I haven't found an alternative to wine itself, but Becks Blue is great (and I'm not usually a beer fan). Also, alcohol free fruity ciders are good. If I remember correctly Kopperberg had one in Waitrose. Think it might be time to stock up with summer finally approaching!
Rugby, it's so hard and frustrating isn't it?! I can't bear the smell of cleaning products at the moment so my Mum came over and cleaned my bathroom the other day! Keep telling myself it's all for a good reason and it will get easier. Hope we can all enjoy our pregnancies very soon.

Will anyone else be travelling during their pregnancy? We're going to southeast Asia for a fortnight and my Dr is fine with it as I'll be 14 weeks when we leave, but I'm worried about things like suitable mosquito repellent.

Helbelle75 · 07/05/2016 07:30

I'm going on a school trip to France in a couple of weeks berkshire and then to Greece with DH two days after I get back. It was always going to be a hectic time, as currently preparing year11s for their GCSEs and do examining work as well. I'm hopingwhatthey say about getting your energy back at 12 weeks is true!
I'm looking forward to going away, but I'm a bit apprehensive about the food. I've never been a picky eater, so it's a bit alien to me to have to watch what I eat more carefully.

Rugby01 · 07/05/2016 08:19

Hi berkshire and helbelle - sounds like nice travels to do! Smile I know what you mean about forced pickiness with food - I bought some mascarpone sauce and pasta with blue cheese the other week for dinner then realised I shouldn't eat any of it!

I am going to Germany on a school trip in July so I hope I will have the much-talked-of energy of the second trimester then!

Helbelle75 · 07/05/2016 08:44

Do you teach languages rugby?

bumbleclat · 07/05/2016 08:58

Just wanted to share that whenever I eat citrus fruits my nausea subsides.
I have a whole lemon and lime squeezed into a pint of water and that really helps as does grapefruit.
Currently basking in trying not to worry about lack of nausea but I suppose I am just in bed.

Rugby01 · 07/05/2016 10:52

bumble - thanks for that tip! I know what you mean - we worry about nausea then we worry if it's gone... !

helbelle - I teach Humanities... It's a historical trip! What about you?

Hopefully we can all start celebrating 12 week our scans soon... Whose got theirs first?

bumbleclat · 08/05/2016 17:17

I too am excited to have my scan date and so pleased that the teaching week is so busy bacause it feels like I dip my toe in on a Monday morning, get sucked into the waters, spun around at 100 mph then it's Friday again before I know it and I'm spat out on the shores of the weekend again!

Sore boobs and nausea subsided but I think I've just changed my food behaviours, Im just eating raw bits and bobs from fridge and crackers. I test to see whether I'm still nauseous by telling myself Im going to cook a hot meal- that sure brings it back again :)

I hope you've all been enjoying this vitamin D fix today :)

Minispringroll · 08/05/2016 18:05

Have managed to mark all of my books today, although marking Maths books made me feel unusually nauseous. (They didn't even do that badly and it was only two lessons worth...so, in my class...about a page per child.)
I'm feeling unbelievably tired and had to have a nap yesterday and today. I'm not sure how I'm going to get through the week. Additionally, I've also got a horrible cold...runny nose, sore throat, cough.
I've then had another nap outside in the sun, which was lovely. I needed that. I am, however, now in real need of some proper holidays. Two days simply don't cut it for me. I wish I could just curl up at home and sleep until the summer holidays. We will possibly go to Lanzarote or Gran Canaria for the summer. We were meant to go canoeing in Scotland, but I don't think that would be the most appropriate choice at this time. Grin

My mum is desperate for me to tell my nan because she really struggles to keep it a secret. Have convinced her that I will tell her after the next scan, if all goes well. My parents would like to come over for Christmas this year - and bring my nan - but I think we need to see how I feel at that point. (We usually fly over to Germany to be with family.) All going well, we'll have an early Christmas present and baby would get spoiled already at the tender age of 2 weeks. Grin

Kajlo · 09/05/2016 06:00

Hi Everyone, Zooming in again, after beeing zoomed out for a week.. work took over my life, oh how I wish I could tell them I'm not unsociable and find them all boring (as yawning all the time) but actually pregnant!

On the alcohol free booze front though, Waitrose sells Torres Natureo (probably not spellt like that) which is an de-alcoholized wine (the white one is fab) - that said, it's still got 0.5 of alcohol in it, but Im told that's ok if its only a glass. Tried it, loved it. If I wasnt gluten free there's a fab beer called Nanny (or something like that).

Yikes Christmas will be interesting when everyone knows... our families are in three Nordic countries and France, which means they will all expect to stay over. In a three bedroom house, with a baby and two exhausted parents. I'm trying to come up with strategies for a polite 'no thanks'... perhaps the offer of a tent pegged in the backgarden might fend them off...uy! ;)

Helbelle75 · 09/05/2016 09:52

Hi everyone, what a lovely weekend! Baby bean and I have spent a lot of time in the garden, planting lots of lovely vegetables for the summer. Sadly, DH works in retail so was at work all weekend.
I teach MFL Rugby - the only French teacher in my school. It's quite a challenge.
Kajlo definitely suggest the tent idea! Otherwise it sounds like a busy Christmas for you - maybe suggest they come in shifts, or just stay in a hotel.
It's killing me not telling people. I'm so unlike my usual bouncy energetic self that I feel everyone must think I've had a personality transplant! Although I do think a lot suspect - lots of glances down at my tummy recently. Which is also looking different as I'm really bloated.
Have a good week

Vb87 · 09/05/2016 16:41

Ladies, alcohol free kopparberg is on offer in sainsburys. Perfect for these hot summer evenings!

December due date buddies!
Rugby01 · 09/05/2016 18:15

Hi all. It's getting closer to our 'we can tell everyone' mark! I am sort of dreading it at work though.

helbelle what a lovely picture of your weekend you paint. Sounds great, all that planting. MFL is tough - esp with all the oral exams so well done! Hope things ease off for you and other teachers on here now it's study leave time. I also think people are suspecting - esp the older wiser colleagues...

kajlo - wow what a Christmas you will have! I hope you can source enough tents!

vb thanks for the tip on drinks! Looks like perfect solution.

minispring - hope you haven't actually been sick on any maths books yet - though that would make for a nice excuse for not doing them on time. I understand the frustration of not telling people esp close family. It's really hard! Time seems to go so slowly! Three weeks til I can tell anyone!

Youngoldmum · 09/05/2016 21:41

Bump has grown even more! I look like I did when I was 4 months gone with baby #1 and I'm only 8+5 Shock
Having to wear baggy clothes to hide it!!

44PumpLane · 09/05/2016 22:33

Oh no- that must be very hard having to try and hide a bump. :(

I keep going back and forth about telling people- we're off on a big family holiday in June and it'll look odd if I'm not drinking (though those koppaberg look identical to the alcoholic version so think I'll invest in some of those). My parents wouldn't tell anyone else but my other halfs parents would undoubtedly slip up and then suddenly the whole family would know.
There has been some heartache in the family around lost babies over the past few years on my husbands side so that's another reason I don't want them to know. I don't want people to feel like we've had it so easy, or if it doesn't work out I don't want to have to explain. But on the other hand I'm desperate to tell someone so I can whinge about it! Lol.

Like, has anyone else's digestive tract just slowed right down?! It's so awful, I feel so heavy most of the time as I'm not going to the bathroom! I'm seriously tempted to start fibogel daily!!!

Kajlo · 10/05/2016 07:33

Helbelle I saw some glances at me yesterday at work which makes me believe some of my colleagues suspect too... yikes! There is definitely more of a tummy on me too plus incredibly bloated so I'm down to my fat-me trousers!

Vb I will definitely give Kopparbergs a go.. though I am Swedish and therefore Kopparberged myself to death as a teenager... a 18-year break should do the trick!

Hiding things from family is really hard, but I totally get you 44, my inlaws would tell the world too. I had to hide it from my dad last weekend and it was pretty hard as he knows I like a nice glass of vino (said I wasn't keen), brisk walks up hills (was panting like an old dog) and I've got energy enough for all the DIY in the world (fell asleep on the sofa at 2 pm). Perhaps try to pass yourself off as the designated driver? Or blame migrane attacks? Being on antibiotics? And definitely bring some Kopparberg.

lovewatchingrainfall · 10/05/2016 10:02

So I'm off to my first MW appointment today at 8+1. Don't know why I feel so nervous, to make it worse I have to take my toddler as DH is working and nursery wouldn't let me drop off an earlier as they said it would upset her. So no nursery today. Nausea is still really bad slept for 4hours yesterday while DH had the day off his only one this week. Felt so rough.
So bloated too it's awful. Feeling very sorry for myself.
Also any advice how I could hid the bloating/bump in three weeks we are going to a BIG family wedding and I will be 11weeks then and would not have told anyone. It's afternoon wedding so will be bloated/showing by then. x
Hope everyone is okay. x
