I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

reebok It sounds like a good idea to get as much support as possible so you van rest. I hope your scan goes OK. Glad you're less dehydrated. Take care of yourself.

I told dd that the doctors were very pleased with how well she was looking after mummy. She was pleased as punch. It made up for me saying I was just popping to docs and coming back 30 hours later.
On the plus side I kept down lunch and dinner yesterday, every cloud!

eallison88 · 15/03/2016 09:25

squeezed so glad you're able to keep some food down, hopefully a sign of better things to come.

Reebok · 15/03/2016 10:19

Contractions coming every 5 or 6 minutes again.

SleepymrsE · 15/03/2016 10:40

Oh Reebok, I hope you are being looked after? Are you still at your mums or back in hospital? Thinking about you and bump.

MotherofPearl · 15/03/2016 10:45

Reebok, please ring maternity triage, or get someone to take you to hospital! Thinking of you.

squeezed · 15/03/2016 10:52

reebok I agree with the others, always better to get things checked out Flowers

eallison88 · 15/03/2016 11:57

reebok that must be worrying. I can only echo others' advice to ring maternity triage. Thinking of you

mrsmonkey14 · 15/03/2016 14:18

reebok so sorry to hear that - glad you were being looked after by your mum, thinking of you as guessing you're going back to hospital. We are all thinking of you and are here when you need us.

icklekid · 15/03/2016 14:48

Just coming on to see how everyone was doing and sorry to hear contractions going again reebok lots of rest which presuming you are in hospital is inevitable!

squeezed I'm sure dd is just glad you are home!

eallison new job sounds exciting, something different to focus on after all this HG pain!

Well day 2 at work was much more intense however made much more managable by going to bed at 9pm last night and ds sleeping until 6am! I realise for many people this would be early - for ds it is a miracle! (If this is your first pregnancy I'm sure you 20 month old will sleep much better than mine Wink )

1moretime · 15/03/2016 16:47

Hi everyone.
I rang my GP surgery yesterday to ask for a Doc to call me if possible. I wanted to ask how long it takes for promethazine to start working as I had awful day again yesterday. I spent the afternoon crying again. Poor hubby comes home & im either being sick, asleep or crying!!!
Anyhow doc rang me & said it coukd take a few days for them to get into my system, he was really good & asked me few questions over the phone. He told me to try Gaviscon - I was like eh I don't have heartburn it's being so sick I can't handle. He explained that stomach acids play havoc especially when pregnant & by trying it could settle my stomach.
He says if no better though I do habe to go back.
Anyhow last night hubby went for me some gaviscon. I had some before bed & this morning ....I don't know if it's a coisedence or not but iv felt the best I have in a while. Iv had breakfast this morning cereal...took one of my tablets then gaviscon. Ate 2 slices of toast around 11. Got dressed went to mums for a bit. She made me chicken & jacket potato with a little salad. I managed about 2/3 of it. Been sucking on hard boiled sweets too. Touch wood no Sickness!!!
Have any of you found gaviscon helped you? Is it this that's helped settle my stomach do you think or the tablets finally kicked in?
I have noticed today tho my left upper abdomen is really sore, feels like when you have a bruise & you touch it & it's tender. Think its from all the renching? Xx
Hope you are all well. Xx

SleepymrsE · 15/03/2016 17:35

Glad you're feeling better today 1more, it could be a combination of the medication working and the gaviscon. I've suddenly started to get heartburn... had it from about 20 weeks last time and had loads of gaviscon. Well done with all the food.

I've stayed on the sofa again today but in pjs. Feeling really tired and headaches. Checked temp earlier and slightly raised at 37.8 so took a couple of paras. Can't seem to distinguish if I feel crap because of HG, if I've got a virus or it's a combination of both!

Hope all is ok reebok, thinking of you. Hello to everyone else.

eallison88 · 15/03/2016 17:39

1more it's likely to be a combination of gaviscon and the promethazine finally kicking in. An awful lot of us HG fighters end up on a combination of meds fit heartburn and sickness. I pretty much mainlined gaviscon throughout, with some other heartburn meds too. I found sainsbury own brand antacid tablets were brill as well (and much cheaper!). I'm so glad you were able to eat today!

ickle I'm glad you're managing and that your daughter slept so well last night. Try and be as gentle to yourself as you can be!

squeezed · 15/03/2016 17:54

1more So pleased that you're feeling better. Interesting how the gaviscon could be helping.
Ickle Well done DS for sleeping well.
reebok Thinking of you Flowers

Doctor has signed me off until my annual leave kicks in. Strict instructions to rest and put my feet up to try to stop baby coming too early. It's bittersweet because I wanted to say goodbye to clients, but I'm already feeling more relaxed.

eallison88 · 15/03/2016 21:04

squeezed;I'm so glad you're going to be able to relax and look after yourself properly no.

MotherofPearl · 15/03/2016 21:19

1more, hope the improvement lasts. I can't keep Gaviscon down, really hate it, but I think there's definitely a link between stomach acid and the vomiting. Sometimes I vomit plain acid and it's so painful, really scorches the throat. My remedy of choice is Rennies and lots of them! As Amys says, their chalky goodness really helps! Strange because I can't stand anything else that's minty.
I hope Icant is alright, we've not heard from her for a while. And hope Reebok is being looked after too.

mrsmonkey14 · 15/03/2016 21:31

Hope reebok is ok. squeezed glad you are out of hospital and resting, shame you didn't get to say goodbye to clients (can you email instead?), hope you can enjoy the remainder of pregnancy. Spoil yourself if poss! I had a preg massage at home on Monday and it was amazing. I slept really deeply for 3 hours afterwards!
1more I'm afraid even the thought/mention of gaviscon makes me retch, but pleased it works for you! Certainly acid plays a part in vomiting for me, I'm on ranitidine for acid. I don't get the heartburn pain, just the acid vomming.
ealli I think it was you that had the comeback for 'helpful' suggestions about ginger etc, thank you! May steal... Someone the other day mentioned the sea sickness bands... Fortunately it was over text so I was able to respond politely whilst rolling eyes.
I too am sick (pardon the pun) of being asked 'are you feeling better now'. In fact I hate being asked how I am at all. I know people are being kind and caring but it gives me rage, quite irrational I know. What does everyone reply?? I'm already dreading being asked by the world and his dog when I return to work. Do you just say 'fine thanks'? 'Pretty rough'? 'Oh you know, vomit-y' ?!! Was pleased to overhear DH getting a bit annoyed with MIL saying 'mrsmonkey prob isn't going to be better until the baby arrives so stop asking if she's better now!!'
ickle great to hear your return to work went ok. Don't overdo it! Sending deep sleep vibes to your little one. DD is sleeping well but has a cough so wakes a few times a night at mo, she doesn't need me to get up fortunately but I'm always wide awake as soon as I hear a peep from her...
No vomit today but not been able to eat since midday or I will be sick. So knackered!
Hope everyone is ok. One day at a time... Hugs to all. Thinking of lucinda and her mum too.

Reebok · 15/03/2016 21:45

Hello all, thanks for your kind messages. Back in hospital and been in tears all day. This pregnancy has been horrendous between the hg, reflux, bleeding, bullying at work and finally just when I think I'm going to be able to relax...early contractions. Been on the monitor again all day. Baby wasn't moving again in morning but started up again once on monitor. Contractions increased to 3 in 10 minutes so they kept me in...but now back to every 5/6 minutes. Cervix is thankfully still closed...waters haven't gone. No sign of a uti and ketones are ++...I had managed to get them down before being discharged and have been working hard to drink but it's clearly not working. Can't even drink fizzy stuff to bring ketones up as reflux been awful. I don't know how much more I can take. I thought I deserved a break especially after my second mc in the summer but wasn't to be. Sorry again for the rant.

Squeezed glad you are on bed rest. Please do absolutely nothing!

How's icant?

Welcome to all newbies and sorry you have to be on this thread but it is a lifeline. Apologies not to respond to all posts. Love to you all x

Reebok · 15/03/2016 21:46

Ps love to Lucinda....and amys thinking of you. Hope things can be resolved with oh. X

icklekid · 16/03/2016 03:05

reebok you definitely do deserve a break. Glad you are getting monitoring and hope contractions continue to slow

mrsmonkey I share your frustration of constantly being asked. I've just started saying sickness has decreased from before but still not great. I've also been honest and said I don't expect it to improve any more in the hope they might stop asking /expecting me to get better!

1more glad you are getting some relief. I found gavison tablets much more effective than liquid last time. You can get it on prescription (both liquid or tablets) so if helping save yourself a fortune!

squeezed glad your signed off and can rest properly now

sleepy it's probably both so take care to bring that temperature down and don't do too much. Pushing yourself when also ill won't help.

Well I'm wide awake 3am with a runny nose and feeling very nauseas. Did too much at work yesterday so need to leave strictly on time today and make sure I sit down. There are lots of teachers off sick so we had loto if supply and therefore some very unsettled children. The frustration is I can't help many of them because they are prone to become violent and I can't put myself at risk. One more half day and then my dad is coming to help with ds rest of the week so should be able to rest still. Had a relatively good day sickness wise yesterday until the eve then more violently sick than had been for a long time. Think I preferred little and often to constant and violent in short period. Was left feeling very unwell.

squeezed · 16/03/2016 08:03

reebok I hope the contractions continue to slow. I think I was missing them previous as I just though baby was putting pressure really low down. Keep ranting away. We're so lucky to be pregnant, but it is hellish having HG and I for one have what has developed into a pathological hatred of people having easy pregnancies.
mrsmonkey A massage sounds good, I might have to try that. I really want to go swimming but can't find a local pool with a slope entry.
I also get annoyed with being asked how I am, especially because the response is never "oh so much better". I just say not great, but not long to go, even though 9 weeks feels like a lifetime!
Ickle I find that having a cold makes me so much more sick. Sorry you were sick again. Do try to take it easy.

As I'm no longer at work any more and can rest, I'm hoping food will stay down better. I'm going to try to eat vegetables because these have been difficult so far. Really hope that having a better diet might help the baby.

SpecialStains · 16/03/2016 08:28

Hey all. Reebok I'm so sorry to hear you're having such a rough time. I hope things improve for you. You'll be on maternity leave with your gorgeous little baby soon! And food will taste good again, and you can have a proper drink.

Flowers for everyone suffering. Keep on keeping on!

It's my Wednesday day off again (I'm feeling very part time ATM!).

So, i'm doing fine with food and drink ATM, but still had ketones of +1/2 and very acidic urine last night (no glucose present). Yesterday I ate a cereal bar, a cupcake, cheese sandwich, salt and vinegar crisps, raisins and a homemade (very bland) veg Thai green curry, with quorn chunks and white rice. Drank adequate amount of fluids. Energy expenditure was walking to and from work (2 miles each way) and standing all day (8.00 - 6.30). That sounds like enough calorie/fluid intake - how can I still have ketones? I am physically very tired from yesterday.

Sorry for lack of personal mentions, still stuck with phone internet. :-/

mrsmonkey14 · 16/03/2016 08:40

reebok I hope today is a better day. It sounds rotten. I have a theory that horrid pregnancies = angelic babies though. Glad to hear cervix is closed and hope you are getting good sympathetic treatment. Can you try any relaxation techniques, whatever works for you - deep breathing/listening to soothing or uplifting music, lavender oil etc? It must be very stressful

ickle are you sure you should work today - please take care. Sorry you had bad nights sleep. I know what you mean about the violent vomming - mine is like that now. Not sick every day but when I am violent is exactly how I describe it.

squeezed an at home massage is to be recommended if you can find someone on your area - I found one specialising in pregnancy massage through our local Facebook mums group. She was actually a midwife! Good luck with the veg but don't stress if you can't manage. Consultant told me it doesn't matter. Can you manage a preg vitamin? DD survived on my 'pregnancy diet' last time, although I do wonder if her love of toast, cheese and potato is a coincidence?!!

Have to speak to work this week and feel nervous about it, I don't know why. I think it comes back to my worry that I don't have the 'right' to be off, even though I know deep down I'm unwell and have to rest for sake of baby.

Waves to everyone, one day closer to baby.

SleepymrsE · 16/03/2016 08:44

Morning all, glad to hear you're being cared for in hospital reebok, please take it easy. You too squeezed.

ickle hope you manage to get through today, sounds like you're pushing yourself too hard. A good rest for the rest of the week once you finish today.

I had a rubbish nights sleep and feeling down and teary today, had bad news from a uni friend last night. She went for her 20 week scan yesterday to find there was no heartbeat. Obviously heartbroken for her. I have no words to comfort her. Despite feeling like crap with HG, I feel so lucky to be pregnant although will probably worry myself silly until the scans are done, thinking what effect the medication might be having on bean.

mrsmonkey14 · 16/03/2016 08:49

Oh sleepy your poor friend. I hope you are alright. Try not to worry about your baby (I understand totally though), HG babies do really well. It is very difficult when we have reminders that we are lucky to be pregnant. I have very close friends experiencing infertility / recurrent miscarriages and I feel heartbroken for them, but also it creates a division between us because I try not to mention how I am / the fact I'm off work etc as they feel I should just be grateful for having a baby (which of course I am, but it doesn't mean the pregnancy is easy to cope with).

icklekid · 16/03/2016 14:16

Hi ladies I think you are probably all right and I have pushed it a bit much this week. I feel incredibly part time at the moment and am very grateful that I got a 2 weeks 1/2 days sick note so next week will be short days too. I am enjoying being useful and back at work but it is stressful. Not long until Easter...

sleepy really sorry to hear about your friend. It does put things in perspective, as long as I feel awful I know baby is still fine. I think I started feeling movement today too- 16 weeks is early but not unimaginably early for a second right?

mrsmonkey unfortunately my first pregnancy was tough with some sickness for 9 months and then awful spd and I got a colicky very hard work new born. On the plus side I have very low expectations for this baby!

special sounds like you are doing well with food and drink. Think sometimes it takes a while for body to adjust when ketones have been high. Your certainly doing a lot better than I am!

squeezed good luck with the vegetables- what are they again?! Enjoy maternity leave.

reebok amysmummy eallison and everyone else I have forgotten still thinking of you all!
