I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Noooo ickle don't disprove my theory!! 😉 That sounds hard work. Clearly you will now have a 2nd 'easy' baby and my 2nd won't sleep! Do take it easy - even though your note clears you to work don't feel you have to go in next week if you're struggling.

Still thinking of those in hosp. I wonder how icant is doing.

Love to all

SleepymrsE · 16/03/2016 14:49

Glad you're done for the week now ickle, try and rest up this afternoon.

I'm ok, still a bit teary which is silly because it's not me that this has happened to but can't help but feel sad. Feeling really sick again today but sure that has something to do with not sleeping well.

16 weeks isn't too early for a second, in fact both I and DH felt DS kick at exactly 16 weeks when I was pregnant with him. He's always been a strong boy!

eallison88 · 16/03/2016 16:51

sleepy how desperately sad for your friend. And completely understandable for you now to be worried. Sending hugs. As mrsmonkey says it can be difficult at times like this as you are thankful to be pregnant, but it's difficult not to feel sorry for yourself or moan about how difficult it is

mrsamerican · 16/03/2016 17:00

reebok I had irritable uterus in my last pregnancy, and it was even worse than sickness to me. I had it for the longest six weeks of my life (until now, that is). I found it is worse when you are dehydrated and when bladder is full, so just keep trying liquids if you can and pee as often as possible. And do not eat big meals (though that is the case with HG anyway). You need to keep as much room in your pelvis as you can so that the pressure of bladder, food, gas, etc don't cause extra contractions (because baby's movement causes enough already). I found that putting my bum in the air on all fours often helped to slow them down as there was less pressure on uterus. I had them 3 minutes apart from 3pm-11pm every day from 32-38 weeks when I delivered DD. Also try raspberry leaf tea if you can get a hold of it. If you have no cervical issues, it shouldn't be a problem and can help some people to "tone" their uterus. I'm going to start it this pregnancy earlier as apparently IU makes a repeat appearance. I finally found one midwife who believed me and explained what IU was. She was in her 50's and had only seen it a handful of times, but she recommended paracetamol, nightly baths and 1/2 a glass of wine to help relax the muscles. I was shocked that she would say that about wine, but the last week or two, I was so uncomfortable that my husband said it was worth a try and it really did help (although I didn't have the HG so bad at that point, so it may not be an option for you). Poor you. I'm so sorry. No one deserves this much crappiness.

amysmummy12345 · 16/03/2016 18:03

Hi all, sorry to hear about your friend sleepy we are very lucky ladies indeed inspire of our sickness...

I had a 28 week scan today, baby is weighing 2lb 7oz already and looking very robust! It goes to show how well the babies great their nutrients inspite of how little we take in! I feel so blessed after our 1 in 5 chance of downs/Edwards/pateau every thing seems to look healthy and strong in our little one... Here she is posing for the camera Grin

eallison88 · 16/03/2016 20:13

mrsamerican what useful advice for reebok. Is something completely alien to me so want able to offer anything useful! How are you doing?

amys what a lovely picture. Glad everything is looking good. These HG babies do makes us mummies suffer but they do tend to grow big and strong!

mrsamerican · 16/03/2016 20:33

eallison88 I'm just trying to cope really. 11 weeks now and spending more time in bed than I want, but really sleeping and not doing too much is the only thing that keeps the nausea/vomming at bay. I'm still on ondansetron and cyclizine and I can tell when it starts wearing off and have to count the minutes till my next dose. My mother-in-law and I had a weekend in Bruges planned for the 15th of April, so I'm really hoping I have improved a bit by then. My booking in is on Friday and scan (plus telling DD) is only two weeks away, so I'm just trying to look forward to that.

I know HG means that baby is doing well generally, but I'm just terrified that I'll get there and there won't be a heartbeat or something and this will have all been for nothing. I am simultaneously wishing I could not be pregnant (although this baby is very much wanted) and terrified that I will miscarry.

eallison88 · 16/03/2016 21:53

mrsamerican I remember that well. It is so difficult, and just coping is a real achievement. It will get easier, I promise. The worries are normal, I think even with a'normal' pregnancy. Exciting about the scan!

mrsmonkey14 · 16/03/2016 22:08

Great news amys. Hang in there mrsamerican.
Feeling quite sorry for myself. Went to antenatal Pilates this eve (usually go on weekend morning and manage ok), made it through most of class with a bit of discreet retching, but then had to go to do horrible acid vom in toilets, alas it's a church hall type venue so fairly sure they could all hear, and teacher came to check on me. Felt so embarrassed as don't really know the other ladies. Burst into tears as soon as I got in the car. DH has work friends round this eve so when I got back I had to apologise for being antisocial and come to bed. Pizza and alcohol smell downstairs, bleurgh! Sorry for self pitying post.
Hope everyone is managing ok. Another day closer to our babies.

spandau1980 · 16/03/2016 22:29

Quick question who has or will have the whooping cough vaccine??
I didn't last time 2012 during epidemic
Can't decide
Seems ppl are linking it to still birth?
I'm so ill and wore out this has me worried sick can't make a decision

eallison88 · 16/03/2016 22:52

spandau I took everything I was offered and have baby everything offered.

mrsmonkey I think if my hubby had work mates over if be antisocial and excuse myself regardless! Try not to worry about your class this evening. Either they're pregnant and understand that pregnancy isn't easy. Or they don't and they're not with worrying about. You've got thru another day. Well done.

Restful night to all!

mrsmonkey14 · 16/03/2016 23:02

Spandau I also had whooping cough vaccine last time and will again. Is the stillbirth research from a reputable source?

mrsmonkey14 · 16/03/2016 23:03

Ps. Thanks ealli, wise words as usual x

icklekid · 17/03/2016 04:54

reebok if you do want to try raspberry leaf tea I have crazy amounts stockpiledo from last pregnancy which hardly touched as didn't go overdue! Message me your address and can post!

amysmummy lovely picture and I'm sure a huge relief that all seems well. I've got mine in a few weeks and looking forward to it if only because it means half way there!

spandau I had whooping cough vaccine last time after speaking to several doctor friends who unanimously agreed was not worth risk in not having it

mrsmonkey I used to do the same last pregnancy at pregnancy pilates am going to start later and hope sickness is more manageable this time (ha ha ha) it made a big difference to strengthening my back with spd.

mrsamerican I can so vividly remember being where you are. Crying every night (normally in the bathroom on the floor) because I couldn't cope and had had enough. I'm 16 weeks and it has got unimaginably better. I can work for one thing which haven't done for over 6 weeks and whilst I am still sick and have good/bad days it is manageable. Keep talking to us here and make sure you keep checking your ketones. Have you got a good gp who can work with you to make sure they do all they can? Flowers because tea and cake isn't fair at this time!

Well my dad came up last night and was very excited about taking ds out morning and afternoon so lets hope he behaves! (Ds ntu dad!)

eallison88 · 17/03/2016 10:14

ickle I hope your dad behaves! I'm fairly sure when babyealli is toddlerealli it'll be my dad's behaviour I worry more about! He's such a big kid and this is his first (and likely only) grandchild.

1moretime · 17/03/2016 12:06

Hi everyone. So sorry to hear about your friend sleepy so sad. Big hugs.
hope everyone else is managing ok!
I'm back in work today after having 3 days off. Just wanted to mention - I was at docs yesterday with my stomach pain she thinks I have bruised or torn my stomach tissue with being so sick.
She also mentioned to me about the promethazine tablets that I'm on & that they are not 100% safe in pregnancy she suggested just trying the gaviscon after food without the medication.
its scared me a little thinking I may be causing harm to my baby's development by taking these, but it's the only thing that has managed to make me feel slightly human again.
What are your views? What do I do?

SleepymrsE · 17/03/2016 12:40

Thanks for the hug 1more. All I can say is that having spoken to the hcp's at the hospital, I am happier taking medication than not. I still worry, yes, but also know I'd be in a terrible state without it. GPs know a lot less than the specialists and I was told at the hospital most GPs are reluctant to prescribe as medication but that obstetricians are confident in prescribing and wouldn't if they thought it was dangerous. Also I took promethezine from 7wks to 39wks with DS and he was perfect!

mangocoveredlamb · 17/03/2016 13:17

1moretime I think your GP is being uber-cautious here is the PSS info, which seem pretty clear that there are no increased risk recorded. I am confident that they keep their information up to date. www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/help/women-suffering/treatments/prochlorperazine/

rebok irritable uterus sounds horrific, and I'm sorry to hear that you are having a horrible time!

amysmummy lovely picture!

mrsamerican it's just so miserable isn't it.

I am feeling really hideous. So bad that I haven't really been even able to look on here. It's only been a week. DH helpfully told me that I'm no where near as bad as I was with DD, which is true, as I was admitted to hospital by 6 weeks with DD. It's just not that helpful, and I feel he expects me to carry on with chores etc.

I'm sure that the stemil I have been prescribed is working a bit, as although I feel so bad, I haven't been sick since Monday morning and I can actually drink a bit. I also haven't had to miss any work yet, which is a major achievement I think!

mangocoveredlamb · 17/03/2016 13:19

Oops sorry 1more this is the right link, but still no risks found www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/help/women-suffering/treatments/antihistamines/

MotherofPearl · 17/03/2016 14:27

Spandau, I had my whooping cough vaccination this morning. The NHS website says no increased risk of still birth or anything else from it. I'd rather have had it than not.

squeezed · 17/03/2016 15:59

reebok Hope that you are doing OK.
sleepy Sorry to hear about your friend's loss.
mrsamerican Oh I do remember those awful days. Like others have said, it does get easier but just feels so relentless when you are in the middle of it.
mrsmonkey I'd try not to worry about people hearing you retching/vomiting. I've done some major monster sounding voms with senior managers in the next toilet stall. As long as you don't vom in someone's face, they get off lightly I think.
1more I've had four gps and three consultants reassure me that promethazine is safe for the baby. From being on this thread there does seem to be a lack of understanding about anti-emetics for pregnancy, I recall some hcp saying no meds in the first 12 weeks for example.
mango Hope you are resting. Don't worry if you need to stay off work though, looking after you is a priority.
spandau I've had the whooping cough vaccine this week. I'd rather have it than not. dm works in a nursery and knows of cases happening at the moment so I don't want to risk it.

Scan today showed the baby is on the larger side (somehow!), but not at the point they're worried. I'm paranoid about gestational diabetes given the shocking diet, but all seems to be OK. Now I get to focus on making sure my employers don't try to screw me out of money which they will try to do.
I think that the enforced rest is helping with the sickness. Fewer vomits and feeling less sick is good news.

amysmummy12345 · 17/03/2016 16:26

hi all!
mrsmonkey I hated the smell of my dining room and kitchen from about week 6 till week 20 :S I literally had to run past them!
Spandau I had whooping cough vaccine but strangely nothing has been mentioned about it this time round... I'll look into having it again though.
reebok my friend suggested raspberry leaf tea as she said it makes your contractions really "effective"... too bloody right! from start to finish with DD1 I was in labour for 8 hours, contractions and waters broke right from the off.
Ickle hope you've had some rest while DS was out and about!
1more I'm sure lots of the ladies on here can tell you how safe the meds are that are prescribed. I'm sure GPs are sometimes reluctant because they haven't actually been tested on pregnant women in the UK.
mango keep up the good work, sounds like you are managing the sickness really well!
squeezed make sure work don't fleece you and you get everything you're owed!!
Waves to eallison MoP and Lucinda and everyone else!!

p.s hope you're impressed with all my shout outs, I actually had to make notes to remember everybody haha :D

mangocoveredlamb · 17/03/2016 16:30

squeezed my DD was 8lb6oz and two weeks early!
I'm glad the rest is helping, and you're right I do need to rest more. I have my booking in on Monday and then I'm going to talk to both my managers and work out how I can get our end of term jobs done but also facilitate more rest next week.

SleepymrsE · 17/03/2016 18:16

So, still running a temp today. Took some paracetamol earlier (2.30) and temp back up again now. It's been on the higher side for a few days. Scared myself silly now by reading Dr Google about effects of high temp in first trimester. Think it'll be another trip to the docs tomorrow. Haven't felt too sick today but rather rubbish all the same.

Summerblaze100 · 17/03/2016 18:22

Hi.

I'm not really sure if I count as having HG and haven't been diagnosed with it but God I feel awful.

Only 7 weeks and for the last week and a half I have had MS. It was manageable for a few days and then I got a horrible cold/fluey symptoms thing and felt shocking. That has now lifted and I am left with feeling sick all the time and yesterday and today have been sick too. Yesterday around 10 times and about 6 times today.

I can eat hardly anything and drinking isn't much better. Once I do it comes straight back.

Been to docs today who prescribed Cyclizine. He said to take 1 and then wait. 8 hours and take the other and if I don't stop being sick, go to the hospital.

I haven't been sick since my first tablet but still feel so sick that I still can't eat and keep hovering over the toilet feeling as if I'm going to be sick. Any thoughts. Does Cyclizine take a while to work. Will I ever feel any better. I've done nothing but cry, I feel so low. Xx
