there are some other conditions (apart from ectopic) which they are probably wanting to rule out. Maybe you will be scanned by a consultant tomorrow, do you know?

PeckaRolloverAgain · 27/12/2006 20:53

cyril are you thinking molar? wouldnt they see masses in my womb if it was that?

I don't know much about it but I think they would definately be seeing more than a sac. They would see a fast growing placenta which doesn't seem to be the case for you, thankfully. I don't know how the HCG levels rise with molar either, I will try and find out.

cyrilthefestivesquirrel · 27/12/2006 21:08

just had a quick look and it seems that very high HCG levels are associated with a molar

ShouldKnowByFriday · 27/12/2006 21:36

Only a fetus produces hcg levels nothing else. So that means there is a fetus so good luck with scan tomorrow.

cyrilthefestivesquirrel · 27/12/2006 21:37

the placenta produces the HCG levels, doesn't it?

lulumama · 27/12/2006 21:41

molar pregnancy would produce rising HCG levels, possibly massively rising levels, IIRC..but would be more than visible on a scan.....have your tubes been checked and rechecked? pecka.. , this is so horrible for you xx

SpaceCadet · 27/12/2006 21:47

pecca, do you mind if i ask over how many days those readings were taken? only hcg levels double around every 2-3 days in early pregnancy and erractically rising hcg levels are more significant of an ectopic pregnancy, however, when i was pregnant with dd2 i was admitted at what i thought was 7 weeks pregnant with bleeding, a scan revealed nothing exzcept an empty pregnancy sac, but my hcg levels were consistent with a 7 week pregnancy, they checked my levels over the course of a week and after 2 days they had not doubled and i was told i had a molar preganancy, 10 days later i went back for a repeat scan and was told that my hcg levels had not been dobling as they should and they expected the scan to show a mole..however, the scan showed a healthy 6 week and 6 day pfregnancy..id merely been too early on for the heart beat to show and later discovered that hcg levels can take up to 3 days to double..so dont loose hope yet.

PeckaRolloverAgain · 27/12/2006 21:58

spacecadet I have become really hopeful with stories just like yours over the last few days/weeks but i think its definitely out of the question now.

The sac hasnt grown, there is no yolk sac etc

the most recent check was 1900 on friday and 2600 today so nowhere near doubling even over 4 days.

OP posts:
lulumama · 27/12/2006 22:07

pecka..have they given ANY indication of why HCG levels there and rising, if no foetus is visible...either foetus is in the tube, or something else going on, that i have no idea about...

PeckaRolloverAgain · 27/12/2006 22:08

the only hint they have given is that if levels continue to rise it points to ectopic........

or a straightforward miscarriage that my body is taking a while to recognise

OP posts:
gingernut · 27/12/2006 23:05

With a blighted ovum, the placenta develops even though a foetus does not develop in the sac. The placenta makes the hcg and levels rise as the placenta develops. The body can take several weeks to finally miscarry.

Will check for news tomorrow pecka xxx

VeniVidiVickiQV · 27/12/2006 23:11

Oh pecka, Im so sorry this is still going on for you

I hope you get some definitive answers tomorrow.

PeckaRolloverAgain · 27/12/2006 23:13

would a developing placenta be seen inside the sac?

OP posts:
gingernut · 27/12/2006 23:20

I don't know pecka, it says here that the placenta and vasculature are not formed normally. That may mean that it grows slowly or stops after a while I suppose...so may be difficult to see? I am just guessing BTW.

I have to go now, hope you get some answers tomorrow.

SpaceCadet · 27/12/2006 23:23

pecka if its a blighted ovum a developing placenta would not be seen at this stage.
i can see that your levels arent doubling, even after a few days and i must admit that it doesnt look good..however i will keep everything crossed for you., fwiw, as i said before, my levels did not double, either and i was told withoput a doubt i was not carrying a viable pregnancy, i was even prepared to be admitted to charing cross, however my "mole" is now 2.5.

popsycal · 28/12/2006 09:58

watching this and thinking of you.

PeckaRolloverAgain · 28/12/2006 14:12

Hi everyone

Popsy, I have got no credit so im not being ignorant. hope you see this - i will get some credit on and text you when i can.

Been in this morning and they are now thinking its almost definitely ectopic.

Im being admitted at 5pm tonight and having the procedure to remove it tomorrow.

They say they doubt that I will be out tomorrow so should be back on saturday.

Thanks for all of your support during this horrible situation - Im now glad its nearly over

Is DH still back on track ??

moljam · 28/12/2006 14:14

ive not posted on this thread but ha been reading.really sorry, its awful.

PeckaRolloverAgain · 28/12/2006 14:15

what is ridiculous is that whilst i thought it was just empty sac i was ok thinking there had never been a baby, just the hopes of one.

Now i know there is an "active pregnancy" as they put it somewhere in my body its sad to think that the little foetus is probably fine, with maybe a heartbeat just in the wrong place.

poor little bean
