Hyperemesis Support

I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

So sorry to hear you're back in Icant but hopefully they can help you feel better soon.

Best of luck for today twodrifters will be thinking of you! Exciting!!!

Strength to everyone suffering xx

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 13/01/2016 15:52

Oh twodrifters will be thinking of you all evening :) all the best!

special but any movement makes me feel sick It might be an idea to ask for prochlorperazine along with cyclizine. for some reason HG affects movement perception too and it can be awful. Prochlorperazine is often used for a travel sickness remedy and it seems to help a lot of HG people.

Also, what lucinda says ... this thread -is- for tips, sharing the misery - and complaining. really really do not worry about complaining. The situation with the Syrians is appalling but being as sick as you are is also a very bad patch ... HG is serious because not only is it hard to endure (very!) but it can also seriously impact on health.

motherhen we learned that about the vommiting thanks to this thread I think! :)

TwoDrifters · 13/01/2016 16:08

Just had the Propess "inserted" ouch and am being monitored for a bit. Then we can go out for dinner, hopefully. It's going to be at least a 24-hour wait I think…

They will be giving me ondansetron soon!

LucindaE · 13/01/2016 16:57

TwoDrifters If the first doesn't work, which hopefully it will, and they do another towards nightful, don't do as I did and accept it when they offer you 'sleeping medication' , as it notoriously does kick in suddenly, and you don't want to go through labour half out of it. All luck!
Bugista Your own date steadily approaches. How are you now?
OnceaMeer I have learnt a lot on here, that's for sure; you already had a lot of pharmaceutical knowledge!

Thinking of you Two.
Have had a very long tough day at work, which included a meeting where my line manager went on about what an expense I am because of covering my maternity leave: this in front of about 30 colleagues. Great. She's normally pretty supportive so am trying not to take it personally. On the train home now, nearly there, feeling like I've been 'holding on' the vom for the last hour. Can't wait to get home and to bed.
Sorry for 'me' post, especially when newbies like Cola, Special and Rachel are suffering far worse than I am. HG is utter crap from start to finish.

amysmummy12345 · 13/01/2016 18:05

Good luck two will be thinking of you!

Hope Cola, Special and Rachel have better days tomorrow, just think one more day nearly over ladies...

Waves to everyone else, got to go into a "challenging" year five class tomorrow 😌

LucindaE · 13/01/2016 18:45

amysmummy Best of luck. I hope you feel a lot better. I remember you said you felt you had turned a corner. Your know how to control classes, of course; I don't believe i could control a classroom of angelic five-year-olds.
MotherofPearl Even if she is normally supportive, that strikes me as unprofessional. Yes, maternity leave is expensive; yes, fulfilling the legal requirements of employment legislation is inconvenient for employers and managers; and if we didn't have it, we'd be back to five-year olds working in cotton mills! Rant over. I will be happy to hear when you can rest on said maternity leave.

Thanks lucinda I thought I had but since the "bug" struck on Monday I've felt so nauseous. I feel really bloated, full... Like everything I eat or drink is just sitting on top of my stomach waiting to be evicted... 19 weeks tomorrow and my bump looks enormous!!

racheljayne777 · 13/01/2016 19:33

Motherofpearl I work in finance and from budgeting for colleagues maternity leave, it actually doesn't cost a lot to employee someone to cover the work, on top of the mat pay, it's because the employers contributions are much reduced. Your boss sounds a bit unreasonable.
I hope everyone else is ok today, my medication has meant I feel so sick but I haven't been sick, it's huge progress.
I can't remember who said they almost wished away their pregnancy, I know exactly how you feel, I did exactly the same thing at about 10 weeks with DD. it doesn't feel like a pregnancy, it feels like a condition. It is so worth it though. Good luck Two Flowers

spandau1980 · 13/01/2016 21:48

Good luck two... the dynamite has been inserted ;)
It's gonna probably hurt more ... But I tell you one thing ...
After giving birth four time s (once twins 8 mins apart!!!) Anything beats HG
And that baby in your arms will take away any feelimg /memory of sickness /pain ect

Roll on may when I get to go through labour...the best feeling in the world...feeling well again and with a mini person YOU made !!

Good luck xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

TwoDrifters · 13/01/2016 23:05

Thank you spandau that was encouraging to read. Nothing is happening as yet and we've just been told we have to move from our nice quiet private room to the antenatal ward one floor up Sad

I'm fed up at the moment so I needed your nice post! xx

BarmeeMarmee · 13/01/2016 23:15

TwoDrifters thinking of you and hoping things get moving soon, but in the meantime you can get some rest.

I've been on a monitor again today-reduced movements again-but been scanned and all is fine. 32 weeks tomorrow. Have anaemia and a UTI so now got the joys of iron tablets and antibiotics on top of cyclizine and ondansetron. Been told to monitor the tightenings I'm having a ring if it feels like they're turning into contractions. Lol, it's so glamourous this pregnancy lark!

How are the rest of you doing? Hope today has been an ok (daren't say good!) day.

shoopshoopsong · 14/01/2016 00:57

What a lovely encouraging post spandau it made me feel a bit better too. You do forget why you're doing this.

Thinking of you two this is the exciting bit!

Barmee sorry baby has had you worrying with reduced movements, but glad scan shows all is well. Do keep hospital updated. Hope the wriggler does a fabulous gymnastic display for you shortly

SpecialStains · 14/01/2016 08:49

Hey all, thanks for the advice and sorry for the self centred rantings of an underfed lunatic yesterday!
Twodrifters - any news yet? Soon you'll have your baby and, almost just as exciting, won't have any more hg! :-P
I've got gp appointment today. Going to ask to change medication as I was up at two hourly intervals in the night vomiting. That's just not normal, is it? I think it's just ondansetron and metochloparmide left to try.

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 14/01/2016 08:57

hope things are on the move for you two.
Barmee hope bubs is back wriggling.
reebok how are you doing?
Eallison hope the mastitis is easing.
cola, special,Rachel, spandau,Amy's,barmee,Mop,glitter hope things improve and you have a better day.
Poppie how are things?

waves to mother hen, snoop, bugista, meer

really hope I've not missed anyone out - apologies if so.
a few have disappeared too so hope that means they are feeling a bit better?

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 14/01/2016 08:59

sorry special I x posted. Hope GP goes well, can you check your ketones? after last night you may need fluids and iv anti emetics to get things back under control?
ondandstron works very well for me, meto not so much but everyone's different.
good luck :)

eallison88 · 14/01/2016 09:16

special I don't think there is or has been a woman on here that hasn't had a few self centred ravings in her time -it's the nature of the HG beast! Best of luck at gp with new meds.

icant mastitis gone, thanks for asking. Had it twice now, hoping that I don't get it again!!

Colabottle10 · 14/01/2016 09:24

Morning all. I actually feel 80% normal. It's the first morning with almost no nausea so of course now I'm panicking. Started the cyclizine yesterday so wonder if it's that?

Good luck to everyone today X

MadrigalElectromotive · 14/01/2016 09:26

Hi everyone, starting to have some better days again so I'm hoping that my relapse last week was my last one and that I'll improve steadily now. Thinking of Two and the newbies in particular today - hope you are all ok. I found weeks 7-14 were the worst for me.

MadrigalElectromotive · 14/01/2016 09:28

X post cola. Try not to worry - hopefully it's just that the cyclizine is doing its job for you!

Colabottle10 · 14/01/2016 09:48

Fingers crossed Madrigal!

A quick Google shows that lots of people have had their sickness stop at weeks 8-9 so fingers crossed this is what is happening for me!

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 14/01/2016 09:53

Hopefully it's the cyclizine cola. Also the hormones rollercoaster wildly during the pregnancy ride, so sometimes people will get a pile of good days then one bad, or the other way around. Happens all the time!

barmee good to hear from you and very good to hear the tinybarmee is moving alright =)

twodrifter thinking of you!!!

cant how are you today?

special ... all of us have had our times of moaning, that's what the thread is for! please don't be sorry =)

madrigal hoping today is another better day.

wishing everyone a peaceful morning

LucindaE · 14/01/2016 10:27

Madrigal Great news.
cola It's probably the meds, or a good day, which can happen even this early on, as I'm afraid Hyperemesis doesn't go away for good so early, week fourteen on would be more like it. I did encounter a woman on another thread who had awful Hyperemesis and it became managable at week ten, though.
I do hope TwoDrifters saw my post below and didn't allow them to talk her into taking any sleeping meds and then have the pangs get really strong in the middle of the night,as happened to me (clucks anxiously).
spandau That is indeed, an encouraging thought for all.
*Ican't I think you are being kind to ondansetron to say it works very well for you! If it did, you wouldn't have to be in hospital most of the time on a drip. You'd be leading a halfway normal life, and eating, too...
BarmeeMarmee That's nasty and I'm glad they're taking care. Rather worrying.
Apologies if I've overlooked anybody.
Waves to all...

OP posts:
SpecialStains · 14/01/2016 10:38

Saw gp, given ondansetron, but was also referred to hospital. No beds on maternity unit, so I'm sat in a and e.

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 14/01/2016 10:44

hope you get sorted soon special.
that's true Lucinda, when I can tolerate oral it's normally ondansatron.

ketones down to 2+ had a few glucose drips now, hopefully home tomorrow if I can keep something down :)
