I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

icant so sorry you're still having such a tough time 😞 xxx

MotherofPearl · 12/01/2016 21:34

Icant, so sorry you're back in. Hope they can get a cannula sorted asap, and that you can get some rest tonight.
The bad taste has lingered for me too. Fortunately my spitting days are largely over. That was a terrible problem for ages.
Amys, glad it was a passing bug and not a full relapse.

MadrigalElectromotive · 12/01/2016 21:40

I hope you recover soon Icant.

MotherofPearl · 12/01/2016 21:46

Special, I think Lucinda used the bicarb of soda rinse trick. I also found some non-minty types of mouthwash quite helpful. I know Ealli swore by child's mouthwash, a fruity one. Also helpful if tooth brushing is a vom trigger.

LucindaE · 12/01/2016 21:48

Ican't Oh, no. You poor thing. I hope you don't have to stay in too long.
NeedaSock Just wanted to say I hope you've got that cream for cold sores - it does clear them up quickly, and really seems to reduce the pain.
Cola I've had domperidone too for migraines - it did seem to reduce frequency of vomiting, but at the expense of worse acidity. I hope it works better for you. interesting that if pregnant one can't take it for more than a week. The smells thing is so difficult. I used to go about with a lavender satchet held to my nose (I also held it to my nose at night, because OH smelt bad to me too!).
Sorry you and so many are suffering dismally.
Waves to OnceaMeer Great advice from you eallison MotherofPearl and everyone.
Have to dash off, but thinking of you all and hoping TwoDrifters has started labour naturally.

OP posts:
TwoDrifters · 12/01/2016 21:50

Hi all! Sadly no spontaneous labour as yet. So it looks like it is induction for me tomorrow. I am a little sad about it but also just so ready to not be pregnant anymore that I almost don't care! I've been quiet today as have just been trying to rest up and relax for one final day…

So sorry everyone is suffering so much. It must surely be worth it all in the end else no one would ever do it. Right? (She said, hopefully!)

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 12/01/2016 21:52

oh no, icant. so sorry to hear that. wish there was something we could do to help :( hoping you at least get the ketones down and can sleep

special I heard that too, I think some people have tried it. Others have tried children's toothpaste or even just swilling with mouthwash

eallison88 · 12/01/2016 21:58

MoP was just about to mention fruit wash. special it's likely that you'll need to go thru a few different mouthwash to find one that works for you. The one for me was aquafresh my big teeth. The smell of it would make me feel less sick even. I had bottles everywhere (next to both loos, in my bag, in the car, in desk at work, next to sofa, at in laws...everywhere!)

icant sorry your back in hospital. Sending positive healthy vibes your way.

MotherofPearl · 12/01/2016 22:07

Good luck for tomorrow Two, hope all goes smoothly and that you soon have baby in your arms. Will be thinking of you.

NeedsAsockamnesty · 12/01/2016 22:20

once I have the anti viruals for the cold sores but the cold sores are indirectly caused by the puking

amysmummy12345 · 12/01/2016 22:21

Good luck two

Just came across this on my news feed, it's like HG but without the baby Shock www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p03f8krw?ocid=socialflow_facebook&ns_mchannel=social&ns_campaign=bbcnews&ns_source=facebook

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 13/01/2016 07:00

good luck two so excited to hear of any news!!

thabk you all for the lovely messages I'm really touched and helps so much having a place to come and talk. everyone in RL is fed up of hearing it or doesn't understand.
had the cannula yay and if cycyzine which made me sleepy so had a few hours sleep. ketones still 4+ and my kidney function is really impaired by the dehydration apparently! so had 6 bags of fluid as they are doing it hourly until my bloods/wee are slightly better.

here's hoping a better day for us all, always thinking of you all. FlowersFlowers

MadrigalElectromotive · 13/01/2016 07:14

Yes, good luck TwoDrifters!

LucindaE · 13/01/2016 09:46

TwoDrifters The best of luck and YES!!!!!! IT WILL BE WORTH IT, AND THAT'S A PROMISE! Cheering you on for today. Very naughty of baby to delay by over a week, I think OnceaMeer's did too?
Ah, yes,on the bicarbonate of soda thing, I did that (you may not be meant to for all I know). I found it really cleaned the teeth when you couldn't stand brushing, particularly round the back, which is a danger area for setting of retching if you feel really bad.
Sock I'm glad you have meds for the cold sores. They do hurt.
Let me see, who is top of the list of due dates now?
Hope nobody is suffering really badly, but that is a vain hope...

Morning all.

I lay in bed this morning wishing to go back to sleep and not waking up for 7 months. I couldn't face getting out of bed and dealing with feeling sick all day again.

I had my cyclizine tablet, a sip of water and a ginger biscuit and got up. Had a wee, came down. Went into the kitchen and gagged and gagged and vommed in the sink. DH bleached the kitchen last night from top to bottom as I couldn't stand the smell and now its back again.

So fed up. I know the tablets take a while to build up in the system but I can't see a way forward for the next however months this will last :(

Because I'm not continuously vomming, no one seems to be taking me seriously and it's all just 'morning sickness' and 'it will pass'.

Sorry to moan :(

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 13/01/2016 10:39

Twice very very best of luck! thinking of you!

oh I see sockamnesty. fingers crossed they help.

amys how bloody awful to go through that all the time Shock

cola it might be an idea to make an appointment for friday if you can. from the sound of it cyclizine is not going to be powerful enough.

I believe that in hospital, they count each individual heave as a vomit (so the numbers can get pretty high, into the 80's or 100's!) in so many sessions. Maybe it's worth counting your upchucks that way ... Would it help to emphasise how incapacitated you are? Don't put a brave face on it ... Also, if your DH could go as an advocate that might help, he's objectively seen how bad it is, even if he can't ever really understand how you feel.

Colabottle10 · 13/01/2016 10:45

Trouble is, I've already seen various GPs and they don't seem too bothered. In fact the first one said 'Well what do you expect, you're pregnant!'...which didn't go down well.

I think I will take my DH with me next time. I'll look and see about a new appointment.

GP has already stated they will not prescribe ondanestron.

racheljayne777 · 13/01/2016 11:22

Cola that sounds really rubbish, it sounds like you have a good dh though to bleach the whole kitchen for you. I tried cyclazine last time and this time, it's not 'the one' for me either!
I feel like I've had a little more success this morning - although I'm literally sitting in bed watching greys anatomy. I've eaten cereal, a banana and had a tablet and I haven't been sick!! Feel sick, as per usual but that is a good amount of food. Fingers crossed I've found 'the one'
Onceameer, if that's true about the heaving, I've seriously down played this to the GP

SpecialStains · 13/01/2016 11:38

Sorry cola you're feeling bad, I've had a fucking awful two days too. I'm annoying myself with wailing that I feel sick, but I FEEL SO SICK! I'm very fortunate in that all my blood came back perfectly normal (even the iron levels, which I was impressed with for a small, vegetarian who has eaten nothing but small amounts of crap for a month). But I still feel awful.
Cola, if you go onto your practice website, does it give a list of the doctors? Sometimes it will give info such as 'interest in women's health' or will say they have qualifications in gynaecology. Preferably, book an appointment with a gp who has an interest in women's health. They should be much more up to date.
If you also went in clutching a copy of the NICE guidelines, drs hate that but would help you argue your point.
The absolute donkey of a nurse practitioner I saw was very much of the you're pregnant, get on with it variety. The gp with a special interest was much better.
Also, if they refuse to prescribe ondansetron, as for them to call the maternity department of the hospital for advice on it.
Best wishes. I'm also lying in bed, hoping to sleep through the next few months.

LucindaE · 13/01/2016 11:49

Cola Much sympathy at feeling so awful, and the lack of understanding. I only learnt recently myself, that the number of vomits is counted as every heave. I'm sure this one of the reasons this illness is under diagnosed, or whatever the term is. Great suggestion OnceaMeer. Do phone the Pregnancy Sickness Support number 924 7638 2020 if you need help in getting adequate medication. They'll have to phone back, but they will, with great advice.
racheljayne Congratulations on an impressive breakfast!
Thinking of TwoDrifters today.

SpecialStains Sorry, cross-posted (I'm good at that). Sympathies that you still feel so bad. Remind me what they upped your meds to?

OP posts:
SpecialStains · 13/01/2016 12:51

I'm on 50mg cyclizine 3 times a day. Debating whether to go back or not. I am doing well physically and I am keeping some food down, and as I said my bloods are all good, but I'm still feeling nauseous all the time, and threw up 4 times yesterday (still an improvement on no cyclizine). I just want to get out and do stuff, but any movement makes me feel sick.

I hate talking about it with family and friends because they are lovely and try to make suggestions 'to make me feel better' which annoys me because no one seems to get that I always feel sick. Always. It doesn't go away. Which is unreasonable of me, because they all love and care and just want to help. (Though I think I'm justified in thinking unspeakable things about anyone who suggests Ginger or travel bands).

Can anyone tell there's huge amounts of self pity at my end?! I feel bad complaining, as I'm doing loads better than a lot of women with this, and I'm lucky with lots of people who want to care for me and are excited about my future offspring. I had a horrible moment when I almost wished the baby would go away, so I could feel normal again. I obviously don't, and its a horrible thing to think and I'll be devastated if anything happens, and I know a few of dhs friends would love to be in my situation, so I feel so selfish and ungrateful. I was in floods of tears at the news seeing pictures of the Syrian children starving to death, when I'm being so bloody picky about food. I feel guilty at not dealing better with this and I hate being off work, hate that I'm not doing my fair share around the house and hate how bloody self obsessed I am.

Sorry for the rant. I'm going to consciously try to be in a better mood from now on.

LucindaE · 13/01/2016 13:31

SpecialStains Never feel guilty about expressing your sense of the unfairness of being landed with this condition - that's what this thread is for as much as anything; a good rant and a moan. As has been said, men would moan rather more, when they think it's the end of the world if they have a bad stomach bug for a day or so. As Meerka said below, about counting the number of heaves or number of vomits, is that three heaves or three separate vomiting sessions, because that makes such a difference between how doctors view the severity as they count heaves as vomits (all very confusing; I never did). They can try other meds which might be more successful, as you know, but its so grim that they can't do a lot about the nausea for most people. Things will get better. Most sufferers get an improvement somewhere between fourteen and twenty weeks.
Also, don't blame yourself for not working, or being able to do housework. Try and get all the rest you can; that's the only way to deal with this when it's at its worst.

TwoDrifters · 13/01/2016 13:41

En route to the hospital! I'll let you all know how it goes. Had to postpone the taxi as I was still being violently sick - I never thought I would have HG like this all the way to the end but hey ho c'est la vie.

Cola I really would phone the helpline, they were so helpful and lovely to me. Together with the wonderful ladies on this thread they helped me get through. Flowers

LucindaE · 13/01/2016 14:00

TwoDrifters Best of luck. You've survived this scourge all the way through; you'll cope with labour. Smile
