I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Thanks Lucinda and Rachel. I did think it was rather unprofessional of her. Anyway, working at home today and tomorrow which is nice.
Special, hope you get seen quickly. Awful waiting around in A&E. Good news about the Ondansetron though. Hope you have success with it.
Madrigal, glad to hear you're getting back to normal after relapse horror.
Barmee, sorry to hear about concerns about baby's movements. 32 weeks though, that's progress!
Hope everyone is having a tolerable day.

SpecialStains · 14/01/2016 10:54

I'm currently about to burst into tears because dh is uncontactable (though i know hes working somewhere in the same bloody hospital today) and I know its very unreasonable to ask my mum to drive 250miles to hold my hand.
I know I don't need either of them and I'm a grown up who will be fine, but irrationally i'm about to cry.

TwoDrifters · 14/01/2016 10:56

Hi all! Not much to report, sadly.

Contractions became stronger in the night but seem to have tailed off again now. Sad Baby's heart rate dipped alarmingly so they brought us back to the labour ward where I'm being monitored but he seems fine now! At least we are again in a private room and this one has a water pool (hurrah!)

Next stage is at 16:00 when they remove the Propess and try Prostin gel instead. Hopefully the insertion isn't as painful as yesterday though I don't hold out much hope for that and then we wait for another 6 hours to see what that does. This kid really doesn't want to budge!

In better news, I've not yet been sick today!

Special I hope you got seen and sorted?

Lucinda No nighttime meds for me, but thanks for the advice - I'll keep it in mind for later on!

LucindaE · 14/01/2016 13:43

TwoDrfiters I do hope it kicks off; glad you got my message.
Best of luck.
SpecialStains Poor you. Gentle cyber pats on offer. You'll feel a lot better for the fluids. All will be well. What were your ketones?
Ican't Much sympathy that oral meds work only now and again for you.
Was there a medical reason why they decided against steroids, I'm guessing there was? It seems so awful that this can be so uncontrollable in the worst cases. It is no fun for you to win the record as 'the worst case of Hyperemesis on this thread (Kalidasa had that unenviable title before).
Apologies if I have ignored anyone. Must rush out!

OP posts:
ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 14/01/2016 14:10

on steroids already for the lupus, quite a high dose lucinda had them iv the last few days to get them in my system as vomiting hasn't helped.
it's pretty rotten I'm just glad the weeks are going by (23+1)

eallison88 · 14/01/2016 15:54

special I'm hoping that by now you are no longer waiting in A&E. And completely understandable about wanting your husband, hope he has now been foind for you.

two this baby of yours is clearly very comfortable where it is! Fingers crossed he starts to wiggle his way (or her, can't remember!) out soon!

icant wow, 23 weeks already. I'm sure it doesn't feel like it for you, but that has gone really fast. Has anyone spoken to you about an elective c section a bit early? You are doing so well, fingers crossed it turn a corner soon.

shoopshoopsong · 14/01/2016 16:48

special i remember that feeling. on one hospital stay DH came to visit briefly before heading home to DS and I was only half joking when I asked him to cut off his hand so I could hold it overnight. Hope things start to look up and you have a bed by now

SpecialStains · 14/01/2016 16:50

All is well, and I'm free from the early medical unit. Had some iv fluids and ondansetron and feeling OK. My ketones weren't particularly high, but my pulse was 130 at the GPS, which is what made him send me in. I felt very silly in a and e next to some very ill people, and when they found a bed on the EPU was mortified to have to be pushed in a wheelchair! A and e staff were fantastic, all really lovely. Dealing with the gynae on call doctor has confirmed the fact that we're not using our local hospital for the delivery, however (which is sad as its less than a mile from home, but the maternity department is notoriously bad, been in national news a lot).
Two drifters, any baby news?!

TwoDrifters · 14/01/2016 17:08

He is not budging! His heart rate keeps dipping, only momentarily, but they can't work out why so I've been on a monitor all day with restricted movement.

They have removed the Propess and we're going to try Prostin next but the registrar has said to hold off and the phrase "emergency c section" has been uttered more than once Sad

They are currently working their way through a queue of 4 women awaiting sections, (I can hear the first baby crying now!), and then they will come see me and decide.

This is all very disconcerting and up in the air! I feel really nauseous but am keeping up my cyclizine regularly so hopefully that'll help.

This is also frustrating as I was all prepped and ready for an elective section 10 days ago and they sent me home as he was no longer breech Confused

eallison88 · 14/01/2016 17:22

two I can't imagine gie frustrated you must feel. You've clearly managed to create such a lovely warm welcoming home for baby that is reluctant to leave!

SpecialStains · 14/01/2016 17:43

He'll be here soon, twodrifters! Have you picked a name yet?
I'm feeling much better for the iv fluids. Happily drinking some coke and had a few bites of veggie burger. I had intended to be a super healthy mum-to-be but sadly my parasite seems to have other ideas!

LucindaE · 14/01/2016 18:28

SpecialStains So glad you feel better for the fluids. Your posts yesterday were entirely natural, not an excess of self pity. I think most people have 'dark thoughts' with this; though the baby may be wanted and planned, and the woman may have had to wait some time to conceive,it's still a shock to be so ill.

TwoDrifters How provoking, this last minute delay; and I have no idea myself how long c sections take. Fingers crossed for you.
shoop How are you, now?
Ican't I didn't realise they already had you on steroids. It is grim that they have exhausted all meds. I am so hoping for a natural improvement for you.
Waves to eallison OnceaMeer* and others.
We haven't heard from Reebok for a while, and various others. I hope they are all OK.

OP posts:
shoopshoopsong · 14/01/2016 18:47

Thanks Livonia am much better HG wise, but v.bad depression wise. Can't get hold of my midwife unfortunately. Kicking myself for not trying sooner.

shoopshoopsong · 14/01/2016 18:49

Livonia?? Not sure how my phone came out with that instead of Lucinda, sorry!

TwoDrifters · 14/01/2016 19:08

eallison special and Lucinda thank you all. His heart rate seems to have calmed somewhat so we are continuing to monitor and see what happens… in the meantime I'm not allowed to eat - just in case I still need a section at some point I suppose - and for once I am starving! I had porridge at 9am but nothing since… this may be why I am feeling so nauseous.

Reebok · 14/01/2016 19:21

Sorry all...back to full time hours so feel absolutely rotten. Feel silly to whine as I'm nowhere near as sick as I was but think the exhaustion is taking its toll on my nausea. Have managed to cut down to two ondansetron a day. Still sick daily but it's become life now.

Two thinking of you lovey! Hopefully baby will be hear soon. With dd her heart rate kept dropping too...escaped a cs but was a vontouse delivery...fx baby will arrive soon!

Hope the rest of you are ok. I'm already in bed as dd is asleep. Will catch up properly this weekend! X

SpecialStains · 14/01/2016 19:25

No, don't tell me you're still sick on ondansetron, Rebook! I have my hopes pinned on it being a wonderful cure!

Sorry you're feeling so tired. How's work going?

Hope you have a restful sleep.

MotherofPearl · 14/01/2016 19:40

Reebok, always nice to hear from you, although sorry to hear that work is grinding you down. My nausea is also very much worse when I'm tired. I guess it's probably the same for everyone. Glad you're in bed already. DP is out tonight so I plan to be in bed with my hot water bottle for 8pm!
Special, Ondanestron works better for some people than others, so you may yet be one of the lucky ones. It's made a big difference for me. In my last HG pregnancy I soldiered on with cyclizine, which wasn't nearly as good. Ondan doesn't take away all the nausea, or even all the voms, but dramatically reduced the vomiting to the point where I could keep down a lot more food and drinks. It makes life just about tolerable! I think that even I know Reebok has had a dismal time that Onsan has helped her, and got her through those earlier weeks especially. Do watch out for the constipation though, it can be horrendous. I spent a couple of months relying on glycerol suppositories I'm afraid to say.

MotherofPearl · 14/01/2016 19:41

Meant to say, Shoop, so sorry to hear you're still battling with the depression, that's very hard. Glad you're making contact with the midwife, and hope she can refer you. How many weeks are you now?

PeppaPigStinks · 14/01/2016 21:13

Hi - tentatively popping my head in. Now 7.5 weeks and had a previous HG pregnancy. I feel sick all the time. All day. And have lost count how much I have dry retched. I think not eating is stopping me being sick.
But the most annoying thing is I am freezing. Constantly absolutely freezing- is this common or just me?

Sorry to see lots of other people suffering.

SpecialStains · 14/01/2016 21:18

Hi Peppa, you sound like one of the crazy mother fuckers that's done this more than once! I have nothing but respect and admiration and awe for you!
Sorry to hear you're having a rough time, have you spoken to your gp yet?

PeppaPigStinks · 14/01/2016 21:21

I tried. Was met with very little. I asked to try vit b12 and b6.

I will need to go back I think. But I have two children. I think I am still in denial (but that is a whole other thread!)

SpecialStains · 14/01/2016 21:47

I just don't know how all the women on this thread a) go through it a second time and b) do this a second time with the offspring from the first time round. My cat is too needy on some days I've been feeling bad, but I can ignore him until DH comes home. I'm led to believe that's just not possible with small children!
Sorry your gp appointment wasn't very successful. What I would advise (and what my gp dh told me to do) was to go on the gp practice website, look at the gp qualifications, and book an appointment with anyone who has a special interest in women's health.

With regards to vit b6, I think its also known as pyroxidine, and is specifically not recommended by nice guidelines for hyperemesis (I've got quite knowledgable about these guidelines as of late!) so I can understand why they may be unwilling to prescribe it. It's in the link below, near the bottom of the page.

cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

There are obviously other treatment options, but sadly you may need to push for them.

SpecialStains · 14/01/2016 22:03

However, b6 is recommended on the NHS website. Interesting!

www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/pages/severe-vomiting-in-pregnancy-hyperemesis-gravidarum.aspx

PeppaPigStinks · 15/01/2016 06:57

Thank you.
I wasn't sure I could go through it again. But after DH and I got carried away we decided it would be lovely to have another and not to get the morning after pill. It then took almost two weeks to show on a pregnancy test. Hence why I am in denial. Even the sickness so far isn't as bad as it was before. But this time I have been taking things a lot easier- I am in bed earlier and have done no housework for weeks. Last time round I was 'fighting' things. This time round I have a 'meh' approach as housework is always there.
I was ok with my first. I had terrible sickness but with my second I was admitted to hospital.
I just think the end result (baby) makes it all totally worth it
