I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Thanks all, I've seen the NICE guidelines before, so i'll make an appointment for next week and see what the GP says.

I've already tried promethazine / buccastem, metoclopramide and domperidone. I have suffered with migraines and sickness all my life and the only drug that will touch it is domperidone and initially it worked. We'll see what this next drug is when I pick it up this afternoon.

Thanks all xx

amysmummy12345 · 11/01/2016 16:15

No urine infection according to dip stick , gp thinks I've caught a tummy bug from school, bloody kids eh, they'll find a way to make me sick one way or another Confused can't understand why my back is aching so much around kidney area, was convinced it must be infection... GP reckons its muscle strain. Thanks all for asking, another day nearly done Blush

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 11/01/2016 17:03

we called our babies ' the parasites' becuase they drain everything from you. they have the vampire effect!

Colabottle10 · 11/01/2016 17:10

No joy here. Called at GPs to pick up meds and only given the prescription as they didn't have any in stock (promethazine). So went to chemist and they didn't have any either. Could scream. So now have no drugs for the next 48 hrs.

SpecialStains · 11/01/2016 17:13

Once - I'm glad I'm not the only one referring to the baby as my parasite. I've had some odd reactions to that! :-)

eallison88 · 11/01/2016 17:48

specialmaybe its a good thing you saw a trainee (sounds like you did, my sis in law is a doc and trainee gps do double apts): you can educate her/him whilst they're training on what HG is - hopefully they'll be better when they see women with it in future. I also missed the pregnancy glow, tho ppl began to say I was looking good towards the end. I'm not sure it was a pregnancy glow so much as not the deathly pallor I'd been sporting for the previous months!

onceameer interestingly, my sisters in law had 5 children between them before I was pregnant, and his family used to affectionately call them parasites, even tho they had lovely, complication free pregnancies!

cola that's really poor. Is there another pharmacy you or your hubby (or family member/friend) could get to sooner?

TwoDrifters · 11/01/2016 18:06

MoP Still no news. Saw the midwife today and there was protein in my urine plus I had high blood pressure so they strapped me to a monitor for half an hour to check the baby is ok. He is! Smile They attempted a sweep but apparently my cervix is only partially open so they couldn't (!) but they did what they could and if that doesn't kick things off I'm to go back Wednesday to be induced Shock So that's where we are…

amys glad it's not an infection and ealli glad you're feeling a bit better too!

Hugs and high fives to everyone else Flowers

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 11/01/2016 18:31

48 hours max to go til you meet no3drifter then, two. Hang on in there =)

TwoDrifters · 11/01/2016 19:36

OnceAMeer That's what I'm hoping! Feeling very sore and bruised from the attempted sweep so goodness knows what a successful one would have felt like Shock

LucindaE · 11/01/2016 20:21

TwoDrifters Sorry about bruising and concerns. All good luck for induction date; I hope it kicks of naturally before then; with luck it will.
Colabottle That's awful; couldn't they ring through to get some sent over from another branch? I think that's outrageous.
amysmummySorry to hear of a virus. Lol about malevolent, infectious kids...
shoop Lol about witchcarft! It feels as if someone has cast an evil spell on you, you're right...
Immortalwife I'm glad you're sleeping a lot, anyway. The best thing.
eallison Their parasites left them symptom free...
Meerka It seems to be comprehensive advice, but for some reason, I can't get to the medicines to prescribe bit...
I hope Reebok Madrigal MotherofPearl and others are OK. Englishgarden Are you out of hospital?

MadrigalElectromotive · 11/01/2016 20:39

I'm feeling very nervous today because I have my 20-week scan tomorrow and I think it is making the hg worse. Have had a day of redecorating the bathroom. Hmm Hopefully all will be well tomorrow and the symptoms will ease off after that as well. Hope everyone else is ok.

spandau1980 · 11/01/2016 20:40

This baby no 5 is taking its toll.
I've reflux from he'll. . Causing sickness to return
Iv spd that is returning so feel.like a.horse has kicked me down there constantly now..
Not sleeping and generally fed up..
Dunno how.I'm going to cope with 4 children and feeling like this (getting worse) til.may !?

Sorry to hear all those suffering ..
Waiting to hear some good news ppl ;)

MotherofPearl · 12/01/2016 10:00

Spandau, sorry things are still so rubbish. I know that May seems ages away, but we're well past half way now, and I'm hoping the second half goes faster! Hang in there.
Tomorrow is going to be a big day then, what with Madrigal's 20 week scan and Two being induced. Madrigal, try not to fret too much, although it's hard not too. I'm sure all will be well. Are you going to find out the sex? My DP talked me into not finding out, which I found quite hard at the time! So tempting!
Hope everyone having a reasonable morning. I had a nasty vom yesterday afternoon but for once it helped the nausea to lift for a while, so that was a bonus.

shoopshoopsong · 12/01/2016 10:31

Hooray to those relief voms MoP still grim but better than when then nausea stays!

Thinking of Two on her big day today! & madrigals scan.. Thinking of you all actually!

LucindaE · 12/01/2016 11:26

TwoDrifters Thinking of you too...
Madrigal And of you and your scan. But I'm sure all is fine.
spandau It is so dismal. I am so sorry that nothing lifts the reflux slightly at least.
MotherofPearl I hope it was a nicely long lasting relief. Does anyone else have that? What is perhaps worse of all is staggering about retching constantly all day, even worse than bile runs.
I hope everyone is managing today.
It is STILL raining here in Wales. Never seen anything like this amount of rain.

Hi everyone, can I join? So glad to have found this thread! I'm 10 weeks, finding it hard to keep anything down apart from cereal and toast (and nothing, including water after about 4pm) and I'm shaking, got headaches and dizzy pretty much all the time now! I've tried cyclazine but it didn't have an effect, going up for an injection later at the health centre. Has anyone had an injection before?

LucindaE · 12/01/2016 11:56

racheljayne77 Welcome. Sorry you are suffering. I'm Mother Hen here, I suffered years ago. Cyclizine (I can never spell that, it's daft) injections are really good, but they only last a few hours. If you can't retain water after four pm, I wonder if these headaches are dehydration ones? It can be difficult to distinguish them from hormonal migraine type ones. Have they checked your urine and found ketones? You may need fluids, too. If cyclizine doesn't work, there are a number of meds you can try.

OP posts:
racheljayne777 · 12/01/2016 12:38

Hi lucinda, thanks I'll ask them to check when I'm up there. Hopefully it's just hormones! I've been through this before with my previous pregnancy so I'm trying to keep drinking anything I can stomach!

MadrigalElectromotive · 12/01/2016 12:54

All went well at my scan so I'm very relieved. They confirmed that I'm expecting a girl so it'll be a big shock if they're wrong.

Going to hit the shops and buy a couple of little outfits to celebrate!

MotherofPearl · 12/01/2016 13:50

Madrigal, congratulations on successful scan! Sorry I got in a muddle and thought your scan was tomorrow. Enjoy the shopping! I've got a few gender-neutral outfits already, and looking at them always lifts my spirits.
Welcome Rachel. As Lucinda says, those headaches sound like dehydration. After 4pm could you try drinks that aren't water? Many of us seem to find water very hard to stomach, but many have success with less healthy options like Coke, Fanta etc. I've found ice cold sparkling elderflower a godsend. At my worst I couldn't have any actual liquids, but got through with ice lollies, esp Dr White's Lemonade ice lollies. Good luck at the health centre later.

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 12/01/2016 15:22

congrats mardigral :)
welcome Rachel I hope the cyclyzine injection works, you can get IM injections on prescriptions if they do - I was offered them before but I had reactions from them - which is strange as I don't IV! I second the suggestions from MoP.
Spandau if only we could hibernate until May?!

off to drs again at 4pm. vomiting and coughing a lot. finished antibiotics for the strep throat and now have a sore chest! hoping it's just muscular from being sick :)

New tablet got a virus already so back to my mobile until Dp sorts it!

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 12/01/2016 15:22

hugs and waves to everyone also!

eallison88 · 12/01/2016 15:50

rachel welcome. Congratulations on your pregnancy and commiserations on ot being hg affected. Have you had a previous hg pregnancy? If cyclizine doesn't work for you, please do push for further meds, there are plenty of options.

madrigal glad scan went well, isn't it lovely seeing baby have a good wriggle! Happy shopping :)

MoP those lemonade lollies worked for me too! Also try calypo lollies (orange but particularly lemon and lime - you could only buy a mixed box, so we ended up with a freezer full of orange calypos!).

icant glad you're feeling quite positive today despite suffering so. I do hope it is vomiting related rather than any more infections.

Wishing nausea free vibes to all.

SpecialStains · 12/01/2016 15:55

Congratulations on your little girl, madrigal! And hi Rachel, sorry to hear you're suffering.
I'm starting to think this pregnancy thing is a conspiracy, and I'm actually dying. I may have wailed this, sitting on the bathroom floor at 5am. I'm just so fed up of not being able to move/eat/drink without feeling sick.
Hope the rest of you are holding up OK. I'm just going to continue to wallow in self pity...

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 12/01/2016 15:58

madrigal lovely news :)

rachel welcome. Would ice chips help? or very hot or very cold liquids. maybe through a straw.

Some people find water melon and cucumber endurable. Both have lots of water.

MoP lovely when the nausea lifts even for a few moments isnt it!

icant how are you doing? and shoopshoop and spandau and specialstains (yeah, not everyone has that sort of sense of humour! but my rather brilliant gyne used to call the Pipsqueak my parasite =) )

cola have you got the med yet?

mother Hen wales is not known for its dryness ... you must be building an ark!
