I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Wow ruby did you lose your temper? unbelievable that they did nothing and you raised it every time ... and now you're asked why you didn't!

squeezed Im so sorry ... the last thing you need is someone like that being foul. I hope your husband and daughter are home now and giving you loving hugs. This meeting was a one-off I hope?

Oh poor tinyealli Injections can be so miserable. Hope he gets over it quickly.

Wishing everyone as peaceful an evening as possible

Colabottle10 · 21/01/2016 21:00

Since a particularly grim vom yesterday I now feel like there I something stuck in the back of my throat and that makes me gag even more.

Feeling thoroughly miserable. Heartburn has ramped up tonight too. Early bed for me.

Another day done.

LucindaE · 21/01/2016 21:03

squeezed Cyber hugs on offer for such a horrible meeting and that woman being awful.
RubyReins That is too annoying. I have heard that at some point the high ketones come to reflect long term starvation, and there was a teacher on here who had them at 4+ and the doctor didn't seem perturbed for days.
eallison It's worrying when they run a fever after jabs. Much sympathy.
Waves to Meerka. Apologies if I've rudely ignored anyone.

Cola Cross posted: that sounds awful; I expect you've made it really sore retching; would sucking ice cubes help, d'you think? Or gargling in salt water (a bit puke making itself, unfortuantely)?

Just had my 25 week midwife appointment and was so lovely to listen to the baby's heartbeat! Has really cheered me up. But I've realised I forgot to ask for my MAT B1 and I'm not back for another check until 19 Feb! HR are going to have kittens.
Cola, sorry to hear you're suffering. I think I remember Spandau complaining of that feeling of something at the back of her throat. Maybe she can advise?
Squeezed, sounds like a horrible day, sorry. The last thing you need when you already feel ground down by sickness and tiredness is people being rude to you.
Wishing everyone a tolerable day ahead.

Colabottle10 · 22/01/2016 09:26

Woken up this after 12 hrs sleep and (touch wood) think I feel ok. Just as well as I'm at the Drs at 10 to have more bloods taken as the previous nurse buggered up the last lot by not filling the form in correctly.

One more day ladies.

LucindaE · 22/01/2016 10:12

MotherofPearl I am so glad you had a boost with that heartbeat. It is the best encouragement. All this suffering is for a reason...I donn't see why they can't send that form by post fo ryou?
Cola glad you feel a bit better this morning.
Hope everyone is coping, and First Thing Bile Runs Avoided?

OP posts:
MotherofPearl · 22/01/2016 10:42

Oooo, Cola, jealous of your 12 hours of sleep. I struggled to get comfortable so kept waking up.
I decided to go back for my MAT B1. Had to wait a while but at least I have it now.
Lucinda, luckily I'm avoiding the early morning bile run at the moment, but yesterday I had a mid-afternoon bile run. How is that even possible?!

MadrigalElectromotive · 22/01/2016 11:01

Lucinda I'm on ondansetron and stemetil, so I think this is as good as it gets for the time being. Work have agreed that I can't work ft at the moment, which is a relief, but I'm still exhausted with pt!

Unfortunately I started the day with a bile run - yuck!

LucindaE · 22/01/2016 13:27

Oh dear, sorry to hear that, Madrigal and MotherofPearl, bile is vile, if you'll forgive the unintentional doggerel.

OP posts:
eallison88 · 22/01/2016 16:53

cola sounds good; hopefully this us the start of a corner being turned!

mop mid afternoon bile run; lucky old you! Hope you've managed without either today!

madrigal perhaps a different combination? Different meds with the ondansetron? What dosage of ondansetron are you on?

A year ago today I found out I was pregnant. After 18 months of trying we were overjoyed. Little did we know what was ahead... Luckily im sat here now feeding my beautiful baby boy. It was worth it. And it will be worth it for you ladies too, I promise! Maybe have a little think back to finding out you were pregnant and the excitement you felt!

spandau1980 · 22/01/2016 18:28

Don't know if I'll give mine men b vaccine ... seems another guinea pig test to me sigh
I refused flu jabs
I refused whooping one last time when preg and toddler flu jab... winds me up when you ask about it and the hcp look blank
So I'm like no thankyou !!!
MOP who s asking about feeling back of throat ??
It's all the sick and acid irritating the lining.. nothing is there but pain from the throwing up and acid :(
It eases off once you stop throwing so much and you can take some zantac ect reliably ...

Had such bad constipation again iv huge piles and hurt all under my stomach from the straining ...
So fed up of being preg
Me and oh are like strangers now everything he does pissed me off amd I feel so exhausted by everything I just get so angry all the time.

Can't remember normal.any more

MotherofPearl · 22/01/2016 19:15

I know what you mean about forgetting what normal feels like Spandau. For me it feels like a cloud is always hanging over everything, robbing me of energy and joy (sorry to sound melodramatic). Anyway, I'm sorry things are so tough for you. It was Cola who says she feels like something is stuck at the back of her throat even though nothing is there. Sounds deeply unpleasant.
Thanks for your encouraging message Ealli, it's good to be reminded of the prize at the end. I was excited back in September when I found out I was pregnant, but it's awful how quickly HG replaces that excitement with misery. Still, I've only got 15 weeks to go, which really isn't all that long.
Waves to Lucinda, Meer and everyone else.

LucindaE · 22/01/2016 19:20

spandau Wish I could advise you about vaccines - I didn't know when I went ahead that they could have the measles one separately, but that's the nastiest illness and if I'd known, I'd probably have gone for that.
About stresses with OH's - this scourge puts such a strain on relationships of all sorts, especially with OH's. You always see the funny side of things, from what I can see, and that must be a huge help (it's difficult to see the funny side of things when looking at life through a sick bucket, so to speak). Sad,. That sufferers get spd and migraines and uti's is so unfair...

OP posts:
LucindaE · 22/01/2016 19:22

spandau misread your message - it wasn't about the MMR! I thought they must have a new one, sorry.
MotherofPearl You always come across as reasonably cheerful, anyway...

OP posts:
spandau1980 · 22/01/2016 20:04

I try to laugh things off ... just some days it's worse than others...
I'm sure everything ll fall back into place once baby's here and HG fades into a distant memory
It's funny how quickly it does when u don't feel it any more...
Think being sick feeling sick has got to be the worst thing ever ...
I'm not sick any more but I feel sick all the time... I can't bare certain food smells ect as I really come close to sickie again ...
So even though technically I'm better than first 21 weeks I feel so sea sick on and off that I'm not better ... make sense .. less sympathy off ppl though grrr.. nautia is just as bad as the being sick .. infact is it worse !!!!?????????

Hugs to all xx

WaitingforaRainbow07 · 22/01/2016 22:28

Hello! Thought I might introduce myself here although I doubt I will be staying sadly. I'm approx 7 weeks but having a complicated pregnancy. Currently experiencing 24/7 nausea but only retching/vomiting a couple of times a day at the moment. I have had hyperemisis with my daughter and it was the worst experience of my life! This time I can feel it building up to hyperemisis so trying to get on top of it before it gets worse. I have had 6 miscarriages in the past and no sickness with any of them. This time we had early scans at 5 and 6 weeks and they have only been able to see an empty sac so have told me it's not a viable pregnancy. I have to go back next week to confirm as they said it wasn't big enough yet. My sickness has continued to get worse and my hcg is rising nicely (currently 90,000). Just so fed up of feeling like this when apparently there's not even a baby in there!!

Anyway I was hoping for some help as my GP has prescribed Phenergan for the sickness but it's not worked at all. She has asked me what I would like to try next and she will prescribe it so wondered what you would recommend? I know it's different for everyone but it's been 9 years since I had hyperemisis so I am not clued up on what's most likely to be effective! Thank you so much xx

MotherofPearl · 22/01/2016 22:45

Welcome, Waiting. That sounds like a really difficult situation; apart from the sickness you must be finding the uncertainty and anxiety very hard. In terms of medication, a good option to start with is cyclizine. It's very widely used, very safe, and many women find it makes a big difference. If that doesn't help there are lots of other options to try. Probably the most effective is Ondansetron, but some GPs are reluctant to prescribe it because apparently it's very expensive. Meerka is our resident drugs expert; she will know other things to suggest. Really good luck, I really hope it all works out for you.

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 22/01/2016 22:58

Welcome & hugs waiting wish I had more I could offer.
Waves to everyone.

You still in hospital icant ? Welcome waiting xxx

eallison88 · 23/01/2016 09:09

waiting welcome. Really hope you get to stick around (not something I've said on here before!). Cyclizine is a good starting point, ask for that. Ultimately you might find that ondansetron is the only drug to touch it, but some docs are very reluctant to prescribe it all, and most will have wanted to try others first. It has some not nice side affects (constipation and headaches) so it's worth trying others and seeing if they work first. onceameerhas a list that I'm sure she'll post when she arrives - no doubt she'll be along soon!

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 23/01/2016 09:59

I am indeed amys.

PeppaPigStinks · 23/01/2016 10:51

Morning all. I am just popping in for your recommendations on something I can attempt to eat?
Narrowly missed admission yesterday thanks to half a can of Coke which increased my sugar levels.
Help - I just cannot face anything.

RubyReins · 23/01/2016 11:00

Hi everyone.

Sorry to hear you are still in hospital icant. And hello to waiting - sounds like you are having a rotten time of it.

Waves to everyone else.

The hospital appointment wasn't bad at all - I was just very businesslike with them and they have agreed that there is no concern with waiting until 41 weeks if necessary. The whole ketone thing was a bit irritating as I have consistently raised it. I could point to all my results in my notes. They seemed annoyed with the midwife really as they said that a lot more could have been done. She hasn't really been that interested in the HG, just does that sodding head tilt and says "not long now!" or some other meaningless bollocks. She is of the lentil weaving variety though and has suggested chewing on roots of some sort or some weirdness to alleviate the nausea. Aye right. No judgement but it's not really for me.

The midwife at the scan told me that she needed to "check babba's swimming pool". Made my teeth itch and DH winced as I really don't do cute. I asked her if by that she meant that she was assessing the volume of liquor... I expect she says "good girl!" to labouring women as though they are golden bloody retrievers.

I am beyond fed up now - can you tell?! necks gallon of raspberry leaf tea scalds self

Have lovely Saturdays all.

MotherofPearl · 23/01/2016 11:34

Sorry to hear you're still in hospital Icant. That's rubbish for you.
Peppa, are there any foods that you're craving? Could you manage tinned peaches and their juice, Ealli's 'go to' food that works for a lot of people and isn't too bad if it reappears. I went through a phase of eating chips but they had to be from McDonald's and have extra salt added. I literally never normally eat McDonald's. Scotch pancakes are plain and doughy. Lemonade ice lollies?
Ruby, sounds like you've encountered more than your share of annoying midwives, that's for sure. The head tilt is the worst. I had one who made the novel and profound suggestion of 'eating little and often'. This after 3 hospital admissions and being prescribed Ondanestron. Idiotic. Hang in there for the final haul. It's hell, but it is nearly over.
