Hyperemesis Support

I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Thanks for asking after me Lucinda. No my line manager has been mercifully silent! I've had a busy few days with one thing and another, and struggling with tiredness, which seems to be getting worse. Otherwise I'm just keeping on keeping on.
Special, sorry to hear about your fall and hope you're OK. As Lucinda says, I think the baby will be well-cushioned by amniotic fluid. Can't believe you have to move house in the midst of HG. Try to take it easy.
Ruby, 'a diet of toast and sarcasm': that made my day!
Cola, glad to hear cyclizine is working for you, that's great.
Sorry not to reply to everyone. Feeling shattered and have to be up at 6am for work. Hope everyone is surviving.

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 18/01/2016 21:36

Special, I second what mother hen says :). My appointment tomorrow is with rheumotologist to sort a lupus pregnancy plan then seeing kidney dr (shouldof had appointment months ago) then weds is with obs/gynae consultant to feedback what happened in appointments. Also having weekly growth scans from 24 weeks.
Tried dr pepper ice cubes which are staying down so far.
Cola - good to hear about cyclyzine :)
MOP - glad manager has piped down
Two - hope your enjoying motherhood and sickness free?
waves to everyone

Hi everyone, this threads moved fast! Due date 10th August Lucinda Smile
Did everyone have an ok Monday? Hope you're ok special
I had a totally rubbish weekend, debilitatingly sick, but I was determined to go into work today and basically spent the whole day chomping on any starchy, beige food I could and trying not to move too much. It seems to have worked, it's been a good day. Still can't eat proper food but I can see from all your posts that I'm on the better end of the scale, it's dragged on since week 5 but medication is helping a lot. And a persistently amazing DH.
I'm actually a little in awe of all of you that have this all the way through Flowers although I could be jinxing myself.... Doh

SpecialStains · 18/01/2016 22:32

Icant - I'm exhausted reading about your appointments. Must be really tiring managing all those, and managing hyperemesis and any underlying conditions. You are a hero, and glad the Dr pepper ice cubes are working.
Spandau - thanks for the reassurance. Are the abs for the uti helping? It must be exciting and reassuring to feel baby wriggling. I'm looking forward to experiencing that (though will probably then immediately start complaining!).
Lucinda - thanks as always for the advice. You're a star.
Rachel - I feel your pain with the starchy beige foods, but don't worry baby will take what it needs. I've said it before, they're basically parasites.
MOP - hope you're not too exhausted by work.
I had to move my gp appointment to tomorrow, and the only one they had with the nice gp was early morning which is when the nausea/sickness is at its worst. Not looking forward to walking through town to get there. I gag at the food smells.

As always, nausea free vibes for you all!

amysmummy12345 · 19/01/2016 08:10

Does anyone know when your meant to get your MATB1 form in 2nd pregnancy? Obviously you don't get as many midwife appointments, but I'm sure I've read somewhere employer has to have it by week 25 and my next appointment was meant to be at 28 weeks 😌 any ideas?

MotherofPearl · 19/01/2016 08:40

Morning all. Amys, I have the same problem. I don't have my MAT B1 yet either and my HR dept have begun nagging me for it. I'm 24+2 now. Have a midwife appt on Friday so am going to ask for it then.
Spandau, sorry to hear that you're still feeling awful. I totally understand that you don't want to take the antibiotics and I don't want to be bossy (fighting my natural tendency to terrible bossiness!) but I think you need to complete the full 7 day course of antibiotics. Taking for 5 days you run the risk of creating antibiotic-resistant strains of whatever nasty bug has caused your UTI, and it would be awful for it to recur and then perhaps be untreatable. You've really been through hell this pregnancy, all sympathies.
Special, hope you make it to the GP today without any public voms! Being sick in the street is one of my big fears, although it's never actually happened. In my hypersalivation phase I did plenty of spitting in the street though! Blush
On the train and nearly at work. Not feeling too bad yet. Hope everyone has a reasonable day. Big waves to Lucinda, Meerka, Reebok, Shoop, Madrigal, Icant and everyone else.

amysmummy12345 · 19/01/2016 09:24

mop I managed to change my appointment begrudgingly with the gp receptionist to exactly 25 weeks, but I'm employed by an umbrella company hundreds of miles away so unless I get a magic carpet as well as the form they've got no chance of getting it on time 😒

LucindaE · 19/01/2016 11:16

RubyReins Is always wonderfully amusing. the image of the cat and the lego structure balanced on her belly is a vivid one, too! That cat is probably in healing mode (I believe that if you are ill or sad, they feel compelled to come and purr at you).

racheljayne Added you. Sorry about bad weekend. Hopefully, as it seems more controllable, The Scourge won't stay with you throughout. With most people, it slinks off, though often, one has residual fatigue and an acid stomach enough to vomit now and then.

SpecialStains I hope feeling less anxious today? I knew a woman who did some decorating, balancing on a chair, when eight months pregnant, who toppled, and fell on it. All was fine...Good luck with the move.
spandau Thinking of your first twin pregnancy, and three jobs, and heavy lifting, makes me feel exhausted. You certainly couldn't have done that with Hyperemesis, and your boss shouldn't have let you in pregnancy, anyway.
You are certainly a veteran.
Ican't How are things? I so agree you are heroic; I hope those Dr Pepper cubes have worked. I found ice cubes made of flat coke good, too.
amysmummy and MotherofPearl What a pest these forms are, on top of everything else.
Apologies if I've missed anybody. I know I had another list, with the expected twins on it. Why do I keep mislaying them? Answers on a postcard; because I'm daft and disorganised, and my New Year's resolution should have been to be less so.

Had good gp appointment today, and thankfully there was no public sickness on my walk in. I'm on 5mg folic acid and upped my ondansetron and the gp even took bloods himself, instead of making me wait for the nurse (he's a very nice gp)! Sadly signed off for another fortnight. But hopefully as I'm a week further ahead from my scan, only a fortnight until symptoms subside.

Also, I can spend next week feeling sick in my new house! There's even three toilets in the new house, so I will pick one to be my special vomming toilet that other people can't use and may set up a nest of some description for myself (pillows, blankets, bottled water etc). Will be a big improvement on the current one shared bathroom we have, when people bang on the door to ask me to place the sickness on hiatus so they can use the loo (looking at you fil).

Hopefully you all had sickness free days today! I do feel very lucky, that asides from one really bad nurse practitioner (think anti medication, suggesting Ginger and travel bands), all the healthcare professionals I've seen (gps, hospital doctors, nurses, pharmacists) have been really sympathetic, supportive and well informed about hyperemesis. For example, it was the pharmacist that mentioned to me about the higher folic acid when picking up an anti-emetic prescription. I really couldn't have asked for better treatment from the NHS so far.

LucindaE · 19/01/2016 18:02

SpecialStains Glad the move went well. That's a lot of loos to choose from. Not sure how many weeks you are now if due after mid August (My head isn't working today). I do hope it subsides for you early, but don't be too dismayed if it lasts until week fourteen or so, even ordinary MS seems to last that long very often.
I'm so glad you've had a great service. I don't understand why this seems t vary so much, and wish it was uniform, and in accordance with the official guidelines...

OP posts:
spandau1980 · 19/01/2016 19:25

Special if it subsides by week 12 ULL be a very lucky lady !!!!

Most HG don't go til week 16 but doesn't mean it won't ease down alot between now and week 16 !

If it does enjoy every non sick moment :)

My results from uti sample was negative

So can stop tablets ... great just got rid off thrush now have it back along with a b induced stomach pains x

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 19/01/2016 21:24

Back in hospital meh :( so fed up.
Special, glad the appt went well, they all sound good and on the ball.

amysmummy12345 · 19/01/2016 21:35

Thinking of you icant xxx

RubyReins · 19/01/2016 22:02

Oh blimey icant. That's utterly rubbish. Hope you are getting some effective treatment and start to feel better soon x

SpecialStains · 19/01/2016 22:16

I can't - Flowers

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 19/01/2016 22:25

Thank you ladies sorry for ranting x

SpecialStains · 19/01/2016 23:49

You've hardly ranted icant. How you getting on? X

shoopshoopsong · 19/01/2016 23:58

Icant - does that mean you won't be able to attend the other appts if they're in different hospital? So frustrating. Thinking of you

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 20/01/2016 00:20

Special, not too bad but was given oral cyclizine (only works iv for me) so still vomiting, had iv omdansatron which has lessened it a bit. Ketones 4+ and kidney function impaired but I've issues anywau.
Shoop, yeah I cant attened appt tomorrow now which really fustrates me. I was sent from outpwtients to local a&e for them to get a bed overnight so I could attend tomorrow but bed manager would not allow it so ambulance transfer here. The dr really did try her best for me to stay there.

Had 4 days home so cant complain, youd think id be used to it but its getting harder now :( sure ill be back happier tomorrow :) x

eallison88 · 20/01/2016 08:36

spandau just wanted to echo what others have said; please take full course of antibiotics. I know you'll feel like a walking pill cupboard, but you need the full course. Thrush is horrid; I've had mastitis 3 times now, currently on a course of antibiotics to get rid again, and the last two times I've ended up with thrush in my nipple and baby getting it. Delightful. Worth speaking to doctor now and telling him you've got thrush and then if you do,you've got a prescription ready to go?

icant back in hospital, you poor thing. How many of the apts are easily transferable? I assume you've told the docs you're seeing whilst in hospital about them, what've they said?

ruby good to hear from you with your humour again! What a shame you're still feeling so rough. You're so veru close now :) keep fighting th good fight!

special new home goodness! Love the idea of a little nest for you to spew in, a little set up of the emergency essentials. Maybe an extension lead and charger in there for your phone? Mini fridge for your water? Maybe that's too much...

LucindaE · 20/01/2016 11:45

eallison What everyone needs is a custom built loo built for them as an extension on the NHS, with all those facilities, nest, mini fridge and all! That would just make up a trifle for all the suffering...
Ican't Everyone deserves this badge, but you deserve an Extra Special One! So sorry to hear you're back in. Much sympathy, but that's not much use.
Waves to Ruby SpecialStains shoop amysmummy squeezed spandau (really sympathize over thrush and UTI; very, very horrible) and

Just had a quick catch up, hello to everyone. Sorry you're back in hospital icant :(

Sun and Mon where good days for me but unfortunately I've gone backwards. Yest and today I've spent in bed throwing up. Feel so drained and tired too.

At least I now have my booking in appointment for next Monday.

LucindaE · 20/01/2016 12:28

Colabottle It's discouraging to have bad days after a couple of good ones, but those good days are so often a sign of an eventual turnaround.
All luck for booking appointment.

OP posts:
SpecialStains · 20/01/2016 15:01

Cola - we have our booking in appointment on the same day! Sorry about your bad days. Hope your blood results are OK.
I can't - hope they've sorted your appointments for you. You really do deserve a medal, or for your baby to be particularly cute!
[Flowers] for everyone.
