I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Hi all.
Poppa and spandau - hope you're doing better today.
Doing really well on the ondanstron. Still feel nauseous and gagging, but no vomiting.
I had my private early scan today, it was amazing! Worth every penny. Puts me a couple of weeks ahead than I thought (approx. 10). I was amazed at how clearly we could see everything! All arms, legs and head were clearly visible, good heartbeat and it was very wiggly! I didn't realise they moved when they're so little!
Need to go back to gp tomorrow to have bloods taken again, as my liver function tests were a bit off last week. Hopefully that was due to dehydration and will have resolved now. I'm also going to ask for a prescription of 5mg folic acid, as I think with hyperemesis I'm meant to be taking a higher dose than the standard 400ug - has anyone else been prescribed the higher dose?
Wishing everyone nausea free days!

amysmummy12345 · 17/01/2016 17:33

@peppa I certainly did hold on to the pregnancy, Amy is now 2 years 4 months and thriving 😁 xxx

squeezed · 17/01/2016 18:04

LucindaE It was a bit worrying, especially as the first pregnancy was comparatively straightforward. I'm also on promethazine and they said I could take them together. I do seem to be susceptible to the dizziness side effect though and don't want that to return.

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 17/01/2016 18:41

Hope things improve soon squeezed.
Hows the ketones peppa?
Special, im on higher dose folic acid due to being deficent. Vomiting plays havoc with liver function.
Im ok thanks mother hen, having another lupus flare so in pain but only sick twice today, ketones steady between 1+/2+ which is good for me.
Hospital appointments every day this week until thursday all early morning and have to bring ds (only in nursery 12-2:30) as cant miss the appointments as some are important and long awaited. But it will be worth itas post preg plan needs sorting.

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 17/01/2016 18:59

Yikes the thread's moved fast!

reebok take it easy, post when you want to ... i truly do not know how you are keeping going. I hope your daughter is feeling a little better? Wishing you strength x

special glad to hear you have had a couple good days and the scan sounds amazing! good luck with the liver check. They never fussed about the folic acid with me, which I think they should have :/

Hi peppa, I hope you got some help from A and E. 4+++ does need attention.

squeezed sorry to hear you've had a bit of a relapse :(

shoop glad you got to 30 weeks but the midwives sound a complete mess. It shouldn't be this hard to contact them!

spandau Oh dear, I see why you are on trimethropin .. that is difficult. I hope it works quickly. UTIs arent nice in preg

icant very glad to hear things are steady for a couple of days at least. The week sound pretty demanding with those hospital appointments, wishing you strength

PoppieD · 17/01/2016 20:33

Hi all, hope everyones doing as well as they can! Not a biggie this issue but I have a constant taste of stale water in my mouth- just won't go away- tried swilling mouthwash but not helping- mint makes me vom so can't do teeth or mint sweets!!

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 18/01/2016 08:04

HI poppie ... mother Hen suggested barley sugars to me and they worked a treat. Got a giant bag from amazon. Might they or soemthing else help with the taste? (jelly babies?)

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 18/01/2016 09:41

feeling really disheartened today - feel absolutely awful and Dont think it's possible to have any bile left in me. Really need to try and last at home as my appointments are really important especially tomorrow and weds.
here's hoping some of us have a better week than last

SpecialStains · 18/01/2016 09:44

Hi I can't, sorry you're having a bad day. Are you keeping anything down?

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 18/01/2016 09:51

nothing yet special :( trying ice cubes atm

LucindaE · 18/01/2016 10:07

ICan't Oh dear, you poor thing; those wretched ketones must be building up. Ice lollies, jelly? flat coke no use?
Peppa How are things now?squeezed?
amysmummy I always love to hear that!
special Great news about scan, and news that you're further one than thought before. If you're at ten weeks, then that is the worst time for many, so it's good you're coping well with the meds helping.
OnceaMeer and SpecialStains I did find that barley sugar good for the foul taste; but I got it through an old fashioned sweet shop. I think Meerka got them online. I've heard parma violets help some people; I don't know if they are still available in chemists, I used to see them on the counter a few years ago?
spandau and Reebok How are things?
Well, I assume that TwoDrifters' baby has to be born by now - my goodness,I hope so - and no doubt she's been too busy to post; I'll put up the due dates list when I've scrolled back.

ever exuberant Grin Ha ha! That's made my day!

Doing ok. Day 6 of being vom free remains elusive. I should have been conducting a four day case 120 miles from home this week (would have needed to stay the week there - DH flipped out at that and did a Gandalf to my Balrog...) but gave that particular hospital pass to a colleague and I am lying on my sofa watching terrible telly and playing "bump buckaroo" (a box of rennies, a cat and whatever lego thing DS made and put on me before he went to school hours ago are balancing on the vast expanse of belly). DS's parting shot was "you know mummy, you aren't really fat". Superb.

Now full term and feeling very twingey. Diabetes has somehow been tentatively diagnosed even though I have been told by the consultant that I don't have it - my sugar levels are very good but they are very risk averse round these parts. Had it last time so that's that. Hoping the rascal makes an appearance before I get the induction guilt trips...

Really sorry to hear that peppa and icant are having such a dreadful time of it. It's bloody brutal. Wish I could recommend something but I seem to have existed on a diet of toast and sarcasm. Didn't work.

Really hope you are all faring as well as possible x

LucindaE · 18/01/2016 11:55

Lol, RbuyReins Sorry that that prized next vomit free day remains out of reach, but you sum up a comic vision, as ever. Grin about DS's compliment; men strive from an early age to beguile with the odd compliment, but early, as later, as often as not they get it wrong.

spandau1980 · 18/01/2016 12:36

Links between HG and diabetes ... thoughts ,?

RubyReins · 18/01/2016 12:56

Hi spandau - I had GD last time but no HG and HG (obvs!) this time but target sugars (e.g. have to be below 5.5 in the morning and I am averaging 4.2. My daytime levels have to be below 6 and they average out at 3.8...) The docs are saying that I am "clearly managing the GD through diet" but that isn't true at all. I ate a leftover chocolate orange the other day to test it and sugars were ok. Spewed it up later but that was after I had tested my blood.

The reason I was referred was that I couldn't take the GTT (410 ml of Lucozade in 10 mins - barf). I drank the stuff and then did an Exorcist inadvertently hitting a passing sonographer... The hospital said I would have to retake it but my midwife told them that I had failed it Hmm so that I could avoid taking the test again.

Having GD once seems to mean that you will get it again so I have been diagnosed despite meeting none of the criteria. This pregnancy couldn't be more different from the last one though. Like many on here I have needed to eat and drink the nutritiously null food like white bread and flat Coke to manage the spewing.

So, in summary, I haven't got a scooby! Grin

SpecialStains · 18/01/2016 16:52

Ooh Lucinda, can I add my due date to the list? 18th August. :-)

Icant Flowers - I really wish I could make the sickness go away for you. what appointments have you got tomorrow/wed?

If food and ice isn't working for you, have you tried wailing and crying on the floor of the bathroom? I'm not sure it's ever made the sickness go away, but I seem to regularly give it a go. {Helpful} Recent foods/liquids I can tolerate - water with ice cubes and lemon, coco pops, salad with salad dressing. Any of those appeal?

I really hate the smell of my house. It has been persistently making me feel sick for weeks now. DH can't smell anything, and it is clean, but I can constantly smell it. I'm looking forward to moving into our new house on Friday, just so I can get away from the smell of this one (not the reason we're moving, just a bonus!).

I'm not vomiting as much on ondansetron, but I've also accepted that I can't really do anything right now and resigned myself to lying very still in bed or the sofa as movement really triggers it.

Poppy - if you find a cure can you let me know. I'm ok with mint and mouthwash, so have been chewing gum and using mouthwash which helps a little. Could you get fruity-flavoured alternatives to gum and mouthwash?

Hoping everyone can eat and drink a little.

amysmummy12345 · 18/01/2016 16:58

Haha special could you imagine if you were moving because of the smell?! The most extreme, high need case of HG ever!!! Grin hope the move goes well and you have very little to do (although I know that's probably not the case as we were 8 months pregnant with dd1 when we moved, the week before I had her I was putting together my kitchen cupboards ready for the carpenter to fit them)!

Colabottle10 · 18/01/2016 17:27

Hi everyone - sorry to hear folk are still battling. I've been on Cyclizine for nearly a week now and although I'm gagging more, the background nausea has abated so that I can actually function. I even have moments of feeling almost normal.

Long may it continue!

I've had a blood test done as sister has Factor V Leiden Thrombophillia and my mum died of a PE from a DVT, so looking to see if I have it. Midwives said they wouldn't do booking in until they know the state of my blood! I'm 9 weeks tomorrow...

SpecialStains · 18/01/2016 18:00

I think even my amazingly patient and tolerant DH would draw the line at a house move for the smell! He has, however, conceded we can take our bed (and the cat) over on the Friday, before doing the main move on Sat, so we can sleep there and not in the bad-smelling house. Fortunately, DH's dad has banned me from any lifting and he reckons that he and DH and my mum can do it all in a day without my help! I am being very well looked after at the moment. Grin

LucindaE · 18/01/2016 18:31

Here we are. That sense of smell is awful.
I hope MotherofPearl hasn't had any more unprofessional complaints from her manager about the expenses of maternity leave...

Can anyone reassure me about a small slip down the stairs I had earlier. I slipped on the bottom few stairs, landed on my bum and elbows and was a bit shocked at the time. DH came home in lunchtime, did a quick abdo exam, nothing hurts and no bleeding so no point in going to epu (I can go directly there instead of via gp now I've had a hospital admission), and to be honest even if the worst happened, there's not much they can do this early on.

I am very gassy aim due to ondansetron and constipation (sorry if tmi), but I've suddenly become aware of every twinge in my lower abdomen. Has anyone else done anything so clumsy and been fine? I think I'm more nervous today because of seeing baby on the scan. It's all a bit more real now.

LucindaE · 18/01/2016 19:04

SpecialStains Great to have a doctor on hand! From all I've heard, you have to be hurt quite badly for the baby to be affected, even in later pregnancy, let alone at this stage. The baby is very well cushioned in all that fluid, so I'm sure you have no need to worry.
