I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Hi all. Had a quick scan through and a few thoughts...

icant you are super woman! Hoping medication works. As spandau said, by keeping yourself as healthy as you can you are caring for your baby. Keep fighting!

spandau it sounds like you also have a cocktail of conditions that make pregnancy even harder than it already is with HG ; you, too, are a super woman!

To all who've worked this week; well done, that's another week over. I hope you're having a restful weekends.

I may continue to be quiet for the next few days; my Nana died last week and the funeral is on Tuesday. Hubby and baby and I have come up to my dad and grandad to support in meantime.

Waves to all, you're doing wonderfully. Keep going!

spandau1980 · 21/11/2015 16:46

Having a really bad day today. Stomach keeps hurting my backs hurting ... tried to eat a banana earlier ( used to make me chuck) and yep felt so sick after it and finally threw up as my mum and dad arrived ... talk about a welcome. I feel so rough.. don't wanna contemplate food. Also as only drink I'm drinking is tea I'm now stressed it's no good but I can't drink anything else it won't stay down :( do I limit tea and drink loads less fluids inevitably or just drink the god dam tea ??
Got midwife 16 weeks appt Monday. I said oh hopefully I'll be well for that one (I was 12 weeks) but no... I still feel and I am being sick ... what's gone wrong :(

MotherofPearl · 21/11/2015 17:10

Ealli, so sorry to hear about your Nana. I'm sure it's a sad time for you and your family. x Thanks
Spandau, banana reappearance sounds really bad. Sorry you're having such a bad time. I think it's probably better to drink tea than get dehydrated. Is decaf tea any good? Like Lucinda did, I manage the odd cup of Rooibos tea.
I'm lying on the sofa feeling useless. Waves of nausea, nose streaming, sore throat, blocked ears, arghhhh. Self-pity central.

amysmummy12345 · 21/11/2015 17:17

Sorry to hear about your nanna eallison

Must be the day for sickness, my HG has been awful today, lots of vom, heaving and nausea... Confused

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 21/11/2015 17:30

So sorry to hear that eallison :(
spandau if tea is all you can tolerate I would say definately continue drinking it, if your worried about caffeine could have some caffeine free? Hope Monday goes ok - my 16 week appt is on tues :) it feels like we've been pregnant forever?!
MoP that sounds rotten :( I find phlegm etc makes the sickness horrible too.
amysmummy that sounds awful too, sorry to hear your all having bad days :(
If only there was a magic cure for HG....!

MotherofPearl · 21/11/2015 18:01

Meant to say that my 16 week midwife appt is also on Monday, same as Spandau! You're right Icant, it does feel like we've been pregnant forever! Forgotten what it feels like to be normal.

MadrigalElectromotive · 21/11/2015 18:12

Sorry to hear about your Nana eallison. Thanks

Thinking of you spandau and Icant.

Having a middling day here today - a couple if voms but nothing too bad.

Hello to everyone else.

ISeeIt · 21/11/2015 18:34

Hello

Can I join? 10 weeks with 3rd baby (4th preg), had HG with my first and this one. I'm freaking out a bit because while I still feel crap I feel more like I did at 20 weeks with my first, able to keep some food down and have had the odd day this week of no vom. Slightly concerned something is up because it seems v early days for things to be improving. I am on metro whatsit (stematol) which I didn't take with my first preg, could it just be that which has stabilised me?

Any reassurance would be great! Worried somehing might be wrong with the bean

Reebok · 21/11/2015 18:39

Hi all, having a tough nausea day. Barely slept last night so think it's making it worse. Only one Vom luckily. Stayed indoors all day. Can't seem to do anything at weekends after working all week. Feel bad for dd as she's stuck indoors with me and playing up because she's bored.

Icant you're doing so well. Fx they find a way to help you soon.

Spandau I agree...keep having tea if it helps. For a while I lived on coke until it aggravated my reflux.

Ealli I'm so sorry for your loss. Sending you much love.

Madrigal congrats on the scan. Relieved for you.

Mop and Amy sorry you're both having a rough day.

More movement today. Making me feel a little more pregnant (the bump too) and a little less poisoned. I also agree...feels like I've been pregnant forever...I kind of have though....pregnant June to end of July....then nothing for 4 weeks and then pregnant again end of August to now. I cannot wait to hold my baby in my arms and then I am honestly done. Going to ask oh to get the snip! Least he can do!

spandau1980 · 21/11/2015 18:41

Thanks all... and sorry to hear of.so much vomiting :(
Eallison I'm. So sorry to hear your sad news . Hope the funeral goes as well as can be expected xxx
iseeit I never took anything my other pregnancies bit have this time. At first about 8 weeks ish I had a few moments of normal.and thought.omg.somats wrong but.it was the meds.. lol sadly that didn't last I was horribly sick n ill til 15 weeks were things are now less.miserable ...
Did 3 rd preg end in similar way ? If this is new for you I'd not worry too badly ... maybe meds are gonna be your god send ... :)

Reebok · 21/11/2015 18:42

Welcome iseeit. Sorry to hear you have hg again. The medication you're on could be controlling the vomiting better. I'm on ondansetron and find although I'm still being sick at 17 weeks that it's controlled better than it was in my hg pregnancy with dd. Also you could be having the odd good day. I think I had the odd okish day where I vomited less at 11 weeks but then at 12 weeks it got bad again. Fx all is ok for you. If you're concerned you could talk to your midwife or gp and maybe they could send you for an earlier scan?

ISeeIt · 21/11/2015 18:44

Thanks for your reply, Spandau. I had sickness with my 2nd preg, which stopped dead at ten weeks and turned out I'd had a MMC. Sickness with my third was bad but not HG. This has been dreadful, maybe worst yet, but already feeling things might be easing and it's worrying me because of the previous mmc

spandau1980 · 21/11/2015 18:45

Oh and pregnant forever thing... I don't remember normal days now ...
Why are we all barely 4 months fellow warriors (I can't reebok mop ) lol
6 more months of this crap lol.
May seems a lifetime away !!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can't ...ignore last sentence hehe

Rest of you behind us u have my sympathies and those in front my envy hehe xx

spandau1980 · 21/11/2015 18:52

iseeit
As you have previous mmc if you see midwife and fib a bit ie. Say you've had a bleed then they ll get you in for a scan. If you say it's eased of she ll.just say
Oh good meds are working then!
You know your body. If you feel you need that scan get it !! HG Doesn't tend to respond overly well to meds tbh are you still nautious? As meds.control the.vom.but not.the sick feeling ...
As you said you didn't have HG Previously maybe that the meds have really kicked in and helped xx

ISeeIt · 21/11/2015 18:59

Thanks Reebok and Spandau. Still nauseous but with moments of relief which I wouldn't expect yet. Maybe I'll discuss getting a scan, or maybe I should just be grateful for what will probably end up a momentary good patch!

Hope everyone else is finding some respite somehow. It's such a tough journey Flowers

Ems10000 · 21/11/2015 20:14

iseeit if you have started meds early then you may have HG under control. I found a lot of meds worked for me for a week or so and then I needed something stronger. If you feel you are going backwards then as gp for different meds. I ended up on ondasetron but worked my way through all the others before I got that - it is notoriously expensive and some gps won't prescribe it. The best thing I found apart from meds was plenty of rest

Reebok · 21/11/2015 20:20

Iseeit I can completely sympathize with your fears. Also had a mmc and natural mc and suffered hg. In all honesty I didn't notice a decline in symptoms with either. Only found out I was mc as with first one they sent me for an earlier scan to rule out twins as I was so sick. The wait to 12 weeks is horrible but keeping my fx that all will be well for you this time. Placenta kicks in around now so it could be that the meds are helping and you will have a few good days.

On a separate note, I'm so happy! I've found something to drink that I can stomach! Fruit cocktail juice so it has some water in it as its concentrated....still struggle to drink water and can tell I'm not getting enough as my pee is pretty dark.

Ems10000 · 21/11/2015 20:22

Oops wasn't finished! icant you are a trooper, I hope things improve for you soon. spandau sod sounds awful, I know how bad gb pain is so feel for you that you continue to suffer after gb surgery.

eallison88 · 21/11/2015 20:27

iseeit it's very likely that the early meds are helping the sickness. Try not to worry too much.

Reebok · 21/11/2015 20:43

Here's a little something that will hopefully make you smile...cheered me up! (Fx the pic attaches!)

Just rushing on to welcome Iseeit. Welcome. I can't improve on the advice you've had from others. I hope it is just an unexpected good day or two. A great idea that, to exaggerate a bit to get a scan.
eallison I am sorry about your grandmother.
Reebok Ha, ha! A geat ditty.
I hope things are not quite so bad for Ican't ande everybody is coping OK.

Hello,

I'm glad I've found this thread, thank you all, you sound awesome! I'm not sure I "qualify" as hg warrior but there you go anyway...

6+3 pg with D?2 here (DS1 is 10mo).

Last time, I vomited once but couldn't eat anything without heaving until 18weeks. Constant nausea. Lost 1,5st. One day I woke up and it was gone. Forgot all about it.

This time, I'm vomiting everything I eat except if I eat a plain rice cake every 2hours. I'm managing water ok, massive bonus point. It's worst at night for some reason.
Doxylamine worked-ish last time but it makes me sleep like a dead cow 10 hours straight... Which I can't do this time with a BF baby who doesn't sleep through.
I'm on Metocloptamide but not sure about the dose, it does seem to make me awfully dizzy even if I take half a tablet...

So 3 questions please:

  • someone mentioned a sick kit, what do you put in it?
  • I read you shouldn't take Metocloptamide more than 5 days, anybody has more info?
  • at what point should your doctor do something more than pills? (I'm overweight so a few pounds lost won't send me to the hospital but I'm absolutely exhausted)

Thank you very much and Flowers to all.

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 21/11/2015 21:17

Hey hello I'm sure what you've said means you can be on this thread. The other ladies will have plenty of advice, I'm useless at it!
Regards to losing weight I've a high bmi and the Drs aren't pleased I am because it's through vomiting so I'm on a daily weigh chart (in hospital) as still not gaining weight with steroids. So I think they take it just as seriously no matter what size you are if that makes sense?
Welcome iseeit
Hope everyone's ok

MotherofPearl · 21/11/2015 21:18

That made me chuckle Reebok! Happy days about the fruit cocktail juice. I'm still on my sparkling elderflower and still can't do plain water.
ISeeIt, as others have said, you may just be lucky that the medication is working well for you. I hope you are able to have a scan soon to put your mind at rest.
I'm sorry but I have a TMI post, so those of a delicate disposition look away now. The Ondansetron constipation is killing me! It seems to be getting worse, even though I'm eating and drinking more normally than I was a few weeks ago. Today I spent ages trying to go, and when I finally did it was so painful, I really think I've done myself an injury. Do you think my evening addiction to Rennies, which I have to have to control the acid, is making the constipation worse?
