I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Funnily enough I haven't had an apple since I found out. I remember from last time with them! Early bed I think, I'm just exhausted after that.

squeezed · 19/11/2015 22:46

Icant it sounds truly awful for you.
Reebok I do hope you've turned a corner.

A day resting had been really good but can't shake the dizziness. Not sure if I prefer more vomiting more to this feeling. I skipped a tablet today because I couldn't face being even more drowsy but I may regret it tomorrow.

Reebok · 20/11/2015 07:20

Morning all, I'm officially 18 weeks...can't believe I'm almost half way there after the year I've had. Counting down days until the scan...it's 16th next month. Thank god it's Friday! Had a mad morning. Took meds at 5am and went back to sleep but instead of waking at 6 so I could force some brekkie down me I woke at 6.40 and had to rush to get ready in 15 minutes while dd cried that she wanted to stay with me and not go nursery. Let's say I'm not off to the best stArt but here's hoping it improves.

Madrigal thinking of you today. Hope scan goes well.

Squeezed hope you have a better day today.

Icant thinking of you Hun.

Good luck to others battling into work!

Waves to everyone else. Here's to a vomit free day! (Ps I got a seat!)

MadrigalElectromotive · 20/11/2015 07:27

Thanks reebok and everyone else. Hope your day gets better from here.

Have been retching uncontrollably this morning, so I'm packing my sick kit to take to the hosp with me. Hope I don't upset all the others in the waiting room!

I am feeling weirdly calm at the moment - had a bit more spotting and cramping yesterday but nothing so far this morning so fingers are firmly crossed. I'll come back and update once I've had the scan.

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 20/11/2015 07:58

reebok can't believe your 18 weeks already! TGIF for you I bet!
madigral thinking of you I'll await update.

I've been up literally all night in agony, drugged up with absolutely everything. It's the worst I've been pain wise - I had Ds naturally and I've been a baby asking for all kinds of drugs and crying!
Awaiting another dose of pethidine and hopefully out for the count for a few hours.

Catch up with you all later Flowers

Reebok · 20/11/2015 08:01

What am I talking about 18!! I meant 17...as you can see my brain isn't working!

Madrigal sorry to hear about the retching. Fx for you x

Icant you're not being a baby. You are going through a really tough time at the moment and are being so strong.

MotherofPearl · 20/11/2015 08:18

Madrigal, thinking of you today and hope all goes well with the scan.
Reebok, I'm so thrilled that you had a vom-free day! You so deserve a break! And hurrah for 17 weeks! You've come such a long way.
Icant, as others have said, your strength and endurance are amazing. Don't know how you do it. Hope you can get some respite from the pain today.
I got home last night after the journey from hell. It was touch and go with being sick, especially when I started to feel hungry and had no food, but I managed to hold it in. They eventually changed us back onto a train and I was able to buy a mini packet of Ritz crackers which helped settle me.
Went straight to bed with my hot water bottle when I got in, but have woken up with a cold, on top of the nausea. Think I caught it from my DD who has had a cold this week. Going to stay in bed this morning I think.
Happy Friday everyone!

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 20/11/2015 08:35

Oh mop I was thinking of you and that journey - sounds like a bloody nightmare. I hate travelling never mind without HG. Hope you have a restful day.

Thank you for your kind words Mop & reebok
Had some IV anti sickness and painkillers so hopefully I'll sleep although Drs will wake me no doubt.

Catch up with you all later Flowers

spandau1980 · 20/11/2015 09:40

After my g b removal I cannot take pain killers except paracetamol. I v got S O D which causes such bad spasms I throw up faint have to have gas n air .
A complication of sod is pancreatis. .. iv never had it thank the Lord but wouldn't be able to have morphine ect to help so it scares the life outta me the thought of it . The spasms are also triggered by certain foods. .. so not being able to eat or drink I'm in pain on my right side most of the time. Most ppl have never heard of sod so I don't tend to mention it. I also have degenerating discs in my back which I can't regulate with pain killers only diazapam :( can't take it due to pregnancy.
Back really hurting and sciatica is torture.
Suppose what I'm saying is if you can take the pain relief take it lol !!!!!!
All these things I thought about this time round as I spent a lot of time in hospital with dd and was contemplating a termination. I'm glad iv not ... Bit I am scared how my body will manage as was on iron iv and I struggle to take any antibiotics too lol ... had spd which made it impossible to walk after 30 weeks last time... so basically shitting myself lol
Under consultant care as need anti depressants so will see them next week 26th . All this plus HG and it a miracle I'm still standing haha
Reebok my next scan is 15th of Dec ... fingers crossed all is well. I'm sure it is .. its the mothers that tend to be knackered

Madrigal - I have been thinking about you and I'm keeping everything crossed for a good scan and happy news xxx

Sorry for self pity post .

TwoDrifters · 20/11/2015 10:06

Hello to all on the new thread!

I've been reading the conversation about subsequent pregnancies with great interest as this baby will be my first yet I've always imagined having another. Obviously the HG has completely put me off that thought (!) so I have been pondering lots on only children and whether that's unfair or cruel to a child. I know my sibling brought a lot to my life and continues to do so.

I've also had one friend tell me their HG was FAR WORSE second time round and another tell me they didn't get it at all with their second pregnancy snd simply SAILED through. So how can you possibly know if you'll be alright or not?! Agh. Decisions, decisions. My DH says not to worry too much until we've at least had this one! I hate it when logic is so sensible Wink

Thinking of you today Madrigal hope all goes well. And Icant you are a superwoman. Flowers

MadrigalElectromotive · 20/11/2015 10:12

All went well at the scan. I've got some bruising on my placenta which is probably what caused the bleeding. They've moved me along as well so I'm now 12+4 and due on the 30th May. So relieved and happy. Did end up being sick in the waiting room and everyone was giving us a wide berth but never mind. Will catch up on everyone else later on but thank you all so much for getting me through the last few days. Thanks

CharlieHamer1985 · 20/11/2015 10:16

Madrigal - hope today goes well xoxo

Spandau - thats awful its sucks enough to be feelings so unwell at the best of times. You are one tough lady to be dealing with loads of pain from various problems and not being able to take anything. My aunt has a bad back from slipped discs and when it flairs up she usually on a strong cocktail of pain relief and even then shes in pain so can only imagen how uncomfy that is.

Icant - must be hard being away from your family. But make the most of the bed rest. I really hope they find something that works to make it more managable.

Mop - lots of germs going round im still trying to shake off the end of the viral infection i got from my LO.

Squeezed - i had dizziness last week and it was a killer anytime i had to get up from sitting or bend down to pick my son up from the floor. But it seems to have gone. Now just nausea.

Reebook - nice to have your scan date gives u something to look forward to. Are you going to find out if its a boy or girl?

Was a long night last nite. Took my LO back to doctors as was weezy. Doctor know long thinks its crupe but bronchitius. He was up 5 times in the night. Wasnt feeling to bad until i just ate a piece of toast and now stomach is swirling and debating wether to come back up

LucindaE · 20/11/2015 18:54

Madrigal What happy news! So pleased all is well. Never heard of a bruised placenta before.
Ican't One thing you are not is a baby about pain. I hope it eases soon, my goodness.
spandau Not sure what that condition is, but it sounds awful.
MotherofPearl Sympathies about Coach Trip From Hell, and now a cold.
Poor you.
Reebok Lol, I thought that extra week passed quiickly. Congratulations on your first non vom day.
Charlie Poor Lo and you must be really tired.
TwoDrifters It is so much the luck of the draw about getting it again worse or better or the same, but more exhausting, because you have an LO. Lots of women say with an emergency child care plan and pre-emptive meds, and knowing what to expect and what to do if it does hit, it isn't as bad as they thought. But waiting for those dread symptoms is no joke.
amysmum Hope you're not too exchausted. You were brave to face a school dinner!
Iam Sorry to hear about Chippy Chips horrors.
squeezed How do you feel today?
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.
Back soon.

MistressoftheYoniverse · 20/11/2015 19:08

Hi everyone just lending support my girls are now 13 and 12 but many years ago there was no 'Hyperemesis' and definitely no support.. I ended up in hospital with dehydration never stopped feeling nausea and being physically ill till my children were born take care lovelies x

spandau1980 · 20/11/2015 20:10

Thankyou mistress xx
I'm so tired from about 4 pm onwards I could cry. Any one else?
Also had some bad cramping about 6 pm and it's eased off no bleeding thank god.
Shit me right up :(
Worried cos I'm having cups of tea I'm having too much caffiene can't frigging win x

MotherofPearl · 20/11/2015 21:19

Great news about the scan Madrigal, you must be relieved.
Spandau, I'm the same with tiredness in the afternoon. Even if I sit back in my chair my eyes start closing! I can sleep all afternoon if left to my own devices. Sorry about the cramping, but glad it's eased off. Must have given you a scare.
Charlie, you're right about stuff going round. My DS now has the cold too. The only one in my family who never gets colds is my DP who is revoltingly healthy, is a runner and never seems to get ill. Pah.
I wonder how poor Icant is getting on in hospital?
Haven't heard from Shoop or Barmee in a while; hopefully it's a sign that they're doing better. And Bugista must be due back from her hols soon.
I broke a few vom free days today by being sick at 5pm, always my worst time. The mucus from the cold's not exactly helping things. I'm going to bed now, feeling pretty wretched.

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 20/11/2015 21:53

Excellent news about scan Madigral.
MoP I had an awful night, had an emergency scan which showed my right kidney (ironically my good one) isn't functioning, my liver and spleen dangerously enlarged so on a syringe driver for the pain. Not been
Sick for a couple hours which has helped.
Having biopsys taken on Monday/Tuesday but not allowed any anaesthetic I'm dreading it.

Spandau - I couldn't cope without caffeine, hope the crampings eased off. I've heard of SOD I hear it's agony :(

Mistress -
I think Kate Middleton definitely rasied awareness although it still doesn't seem to be widely known - God knows what you had to go through before :(

Charlie - how's LO?

Reebok- how's work? Bet your glad it's the weekend!

two - I'm in the club where HG is worse this time round.

waves to everyone. Sorry if I've missed anyone

amysmummy12345 · 20/11/2015 21:58

Hi all, another week done, I'm so exhausted!! Madrigal I'm so glad the scan went well!! Poor Icant!!! How much more can your poor body take??!!

Waves to everyone else xxx

spandau1980 · 21/11/2015 09:13

Bloody heck I can't what have docs Said about cont the pregnancy ?
Would they deliver earlier ect???
What's a syringe driver ?

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 21/11/2015 10:50

Not much more I don't think amysmummy !
The obs team done a scan and baby is fine, they offered me a medical termination again but I've got this far and couldn't do it all again - and id end up poorly whenever I have a child. 15 weeks so not giving up now as hard as it is.
Yeah they've said previously I'll deliver at 36 weeks but wyrt

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 21/11/2015 10:52

Sorry pressed to early replying spandau but with these problems may be earlier.
A syringe driver is a morphine pump where I've control of the button and press it every time the pain comes. It's been swapped to pethadine so it's safer for the baby. Just hate taking all of these.
How is everyone?

LucindaE · 21/11/2015 13:02

MistressofheYoniverse Thank you for coming on to encourage current sufferers. Certainly, but as awareness is now, even with the medically qualifed, let alone the general public, it was far worse years ago. You were brave in going for it twice, with daughters only a year apart.
Ican't I am in awe of your courage, quite frankly. How many weeks are you now? Ah, i've looked back, fifteen weeks. I am keeping all my fingers and toes crossed that things get better for you now.
spandau You are also very brave. Glad those cramps have eased. When I could face tea again I used to drink Rooibas that South African red bush tea as it doesn't have any caffeine in it, but is more like tea than herbal teas; but a lot of people can't stand the taste.
amysmummyReebok Charlie MotherofPearl and others somehow tottering into work - well done on surviving the week. And what weather!
Apologies if I've missed anyone.

OP posts:
spandau1980 · 21/11/2015 13:12

icant you've got to look at it this way
Taking the stuff and getting better means baby lives
Not taking stuff means u and baby dont live
You are giving baby every fighting chance YOU physically can
Do not feel bad for taking anything ... you have to come first - sorry if that's callous but you have to come first.
Baby will.fight. he or she seems to be sat tight battling on with you ... and tbh if it was that easy to damage or lose a.baby ppl wouldn't bother with abortion clinics !!
Even if you can only make it to say 28/30 weeks baby has I think 90% if not higher rate of survival....
Even at 24 weeks miracle babies live ...
You've come 15 weeks so another 9 and baby ll be able to survive outside the womb ... I'm praying the drugs work soon amd you feel a bit better .. even if it is hospital til delivery ... miserable as that may sound lots of ladies do it :)
Suppose to be a supportive post lol hope it comes across like that lol xxxxx

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 21/11/2015 13:29

It is really supportive thank you spandau I appreciate it.
I like to come and rant here as people in RL just don't unserstand.
It's nice to have a place to post and whinge and have understanding of the HG. Xxx
Hope your all having a good of a weekend as possible :)

squeezed · 21/11/2015 14:25

Icant keep on ranting, and anything else that helps.
