I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Hey all, hope you're all doing OK. I LOVE CYCLIZINE! Just eating my first leafy green vegetable in 3 weeks (some raw spinich in a wrap) and happily gorging on veggie percy pigs! I've only thrown up twice today and the nausea feeling is so much better! Even didn't gag walking through town to the gp! Anyone else felt this much immense relief from any anti-emetics? I hope it lasts.

Going to eat lots of Cake while I feel able! Got to counteract my recent weight loss!

squeezed · 04/01/2016 17:30

Twodrifters What great news. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Special Really pleased the medication is working for you. I haven't had a consistent improvement from the medication but some days I feel more 'normal'.

eallison88 · 04/01/2016 17:47

special I'm so glad the meds have made such a dramatic difference for you. I had a similar dramatic improvement, but with a different drug. Don't be too disappointed if the impact lessens over a few weeks, hg tend's to get worse before it gets better. The good news is that you are on entry level meds so there is somewhere to progress to if you need.

immortalwife · 04/01/2016 18:15

Well I've lost 4kilos in 3weeks. Due on 1st August. So tired had what felt like a lite of blood drained and vision went black when she did BP (how exciting...) and lots of questions. On the up side I have my scan sooooon! Next week or so. I'm going to video it. Finally feeling good about it!

LucindaE · 04/01/2016 18:19

ImmortalWife Welcome. I'm glad you've had great advice already. I hope you got both reassurance about the bleeding and some meds at the appointment. I do sympathize about hormonal migraines in pregnancy, I had them too and they are truly hellish. Mine went off at sixteen weeks, I hope yours do too. As others say, that really does sound like nonsense about hormones mean drugs won't work. Great advice from OnceaMeer about avoiding meto. with your joint condition. I have heard, too, on this thread, that Ondansetron can make migraines worse. How lovely to have such a nice MIL.
SpecialStains That is happy news. I hope it continues that way; as others say, if you have a relapse, don't hesitate to go back and ask for stronger meds or a combination.

Reebok You poor thing, that back pain sounds awful.
MotherofPearl Sorry, I didn't delete that first date; absurdly I had you down for two dates on that list. Feel for you, feeling so weary and nauseated. It's a long, hard haul.
TwoDrifters Hey, those' S and M Made Simple' positions with the ironing board worked after all. It's both great news, and a bit of an anti climax for you. Hoping it all kicks off for you very soon, as others say.
OnceaMeer and everyone: Thanks for kind enquiries about my mother. I'm afraid she is quite old (I'm no spring chicken, and I'm the youngest from her second marriage) and it sadly won't improve. At least she has a stair lift put in at last.
Madrigal I'm glad it's a bit better, and hope it was one of those nasty hormonal surges.

madrigal about acid reflux, only thing that worked for me was omeprazole (prescription med). Before that I was chewing Rennies all day and Ranatidine didn't help much either. I remember a distinct shift in HG, up to about 25weeks it was mainly a seasick feeling with constant dry-retching and dizziness, then later was more reflux, inability to keep liquids down, vomiting acid etc. Wish I'd started omeprazole earlier!

Lucinda sorry I didn't mean to alarm anyone when I said my symptoms persisted for a while. They did get much, much better straight after the birth, I remember eating toast in delivery suite and being amazed it stayed down! And the joy at drinking a full cup of tea!
The nausea after birth was mainly when I was very tired and not every day like HG.
After 9months of hibernating at home I couldn't stand being indoors and exhausted myself with baby groups, long walks, cooking, visiting friends in other cities etc. I should have taken it a bit easier and let myself recover! Also I was scared to eat so wasn't taking in enough calories and got very weak. I found it hard to eat 'real' food at first! It helped to eat bland food in tiny amounts the first couple of months. I guess after vomiting all pregnancy your body's still in starvation mode and takes a while to re-set.

Once a Meer thanks, he's sleeping better now, usually sleeps 11pm-4am then 4:30-6 Smile He's nearly 4months and colic much better, he's off Coleif and Infacol now. He smiles and babbles all day and I love being a mum!

Hang in there ladies... all the suffering is worth it in the end!

LilacRain · 04/01/2016 18:39

immortal about hormonal migraines, mine were only in the 2nd trimester between 12-20weeks, they were horrendous and I feel for you. I used to wake with a throbbing pain behind 1 eye and spend all day dry-retching, every retch brought on a fresh wave of nausea as it jarred head. I found lying still with a cold wet flannel over 1eye helped, so did codeine when it was really bad and regular paracetamol.

LucindaE · 04/01/2016 19:54

LilacRain Don't worry, you were quite right to state the truth about how your symptoms persisted to warn people that it can happen, though it's unlikely! No, I think my emphasizing mine might worry people,as I had it quite violently, couldn't retain water for a while. While one doesn't want to worry current sufferers (only a small minority suffer after birth as well as before and everyone recovers) it is a bad idea not to mention it, as I didn't at first, and Slippers on the first thread had it linger after birth, totally unprepared for the possibility, and scared it might never go. I only found out later.

My husband seemed quite relieved when I told him that migraine and sickness might go away for a while at 20wks.... I was like, why are YOU relieved, I know I am but really!! Ha!

spandau1980 · 04/01/2016 21:13

Still here...
Still feel sick
Still have reflux...
Still have back pain...
Still have bad pressure feeling...
Still surviving
Still alive ...

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 04/01/2016 21:38

oh ladies looks like we are all still suffering :(
two - hope your getting somewhere and Baba will be born soon!
seen GP as having awful dizzy spells and my bp is very low and the ketones kicking back in. He was very sympathetic and seeing me 11 tomorrow to see how I've gone overnight as want to avoid hospital. He done some accupunture there and then to see if it helped so will soon see... anyone else been told it helps HG?
Thinking of you all as always.

eallison88 · 04/01/2016 22:35

lucinda was it you that had success with acupuncture?

spandau keep going, you've done another day. Sounds like you've had a particularly difficult day -well done you for getting thru it. I hope you have a good night.

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 05/01/2016 07:45

spandau, wishing you stamina and a better day today, love.

icant yes it was lucinda who tried acupuncture, positive results. It varies from person to person though.

immortal you might want to warn your husband that the -worst- of the sickness will start to pass, but it does take a bit of time for it to really subside. But everyone does get some improvement!

Reebok · 05/01/2016 08:01

Back to work...wish me luck. Started work with a bile vomit! Just lovely! Already dying to pee and nowhere near close to work.

Reebok · 05/01/2016 08:01

Meant started the day*

eallison88 · 05/01/2016 08:59

Oh dear rebook not the most fun way to start the working day. What's on the cards today? A nice light day I hope!

MotherofPearl · 05/01/2016 11:46

Reebok, hope work goes alright today. Nasty to start off with the dreaded bile run. When I got back from work yesterday I had to race to the kitchen for one of my charming kitchen sick voms. Lovely.
Spandau, sorry to hear things are still rough but good that you keep your sense of humour! Hang in there. Time is passing, even though it doesn't always feel like that.
Icant, how is BP and ketones today? Sincerely hope you've not been readmitted.
Special, so glad to hear the cyclizine is working for you: long may it last.
Hope everyone else is coping today. I'm working at home for the rest of the week. Although I have several giant piles of marking to get through, at least I can do it in comfort at home and don't have to brave the train.
Waves to all.

LucindaE · 05/01/2016 11:52

Reebok My sympathies about bile run. What a nightmare work is when feeling ill, and as for teaching, that is beyond my imagination.
Ican't OnceaMeer and eallision I was very lucky. I do so hope it does a lot for you, ICan't.
spandauGentle cyber pats on offer. Feel for you, suffering still. I know you had a couple of good days, but it's so maddening they weren't a sign of the turn around.
Immortal A lot of people do get relief before that, say from 14 weeks on. I have even known a couple who got relief at 12 weeks(and from all I hear, that isn't as usual as dr's make out for normal MS)!
Apologies for anyone rudely ignored.

Hey all, sorry to see so many people struggling today. My day started much the same as Reeboks. I've been signed off for another week, but have a meeting at university I'm trying to go to (to tell my supervisor I'm pregnant). Dreading the bus and just thrown up some half digested collin the caterpillars - not a pretty sight! Still, I think cyclizine still helping though I'm so tired.
Flowers for everyone.

Reebok I hope the days improving for you.
Special good luck with the bus journey - I hope the cyclyzine helps.
Mop - good news about being able to work hope you get some respite so you can get it done.
Spandau - really wish I could offer comforting words :(.
Lucinda - sorry to hear your mum's unwell, love the slogans by the way!
Two - hope your in full Labour or holding a precious new born by now!
Immortal - think I've rudely not said hi yet so I'm sorry!
Madigral - how's things going?
Eallison - how quick have those months gone by?! good news though.

GO came out and although BP still low (82/56) my ketones have stayed the same at 2+ and I've only been sick about 3x so far today which is really good for me so he's agreed I can keep trying the ice cubes so I've more time at home so very pleased. Don't want to jinx myself in case its a coincidence but maybe the acupuncture has actually helped? he said he will try it weekly anyway.
I may even be brave and try some food! :D

ill update my hospital drama from last week whilst I'm not feeling too bad. Mid wife sent me to local hospital so I could be closer to home but its limited obs & gynae cover and doesn't accept admissions from 20 weeks but as it was just for fluids and anti sickness they said they would just this once accept me.
Anyway arrived at 2 and the junior Dr couldn't cannulate me before she finished at 5 so contacted her senior to try (they only work until 7) well the registrar couldn't do it and bleeped anethiastist (sp?) but because they didn't come before 7 I was sent home!
DP was on an overnight shift and DS was with family and the midwife heard what happened so came to check on me the next morning when I was found passed out so she rang 999 and I was sent to hospital far away. The only place they could get a drip in at that point was my neck as I was so dehydrated.
Needless to say it could have been prevented but its so last year now ;).
Things can only get better! Grin

NeedsAsockamnesty · 05/01/2016 15:37

Just thought I would pop in and say hi and share some good news.

After a year ago having a medically advised TOP due to HG I'm now pregnant again it's very early days I only found out a few days ago but I'm feeling really positive because I already have in place a care plan (per planned in case of pregnancy) my consultant has told my GP to start me on meds before anything other than that horrible sicky feeling happens (may be a tad late as already puking) but meds get collected tomorrow, and injectable anti emotics will be started as soon as I puke more than 5 times a day.

I'm really hoping I can stay a normal weight this time round and not drop to a 0 and risk hell again

MadrigalElectromotive · 05/01/2016 15:44

Congratulations Sock. I really hope that this pregnancy turns out very differently for you and that your hg is better controlled.

I am in the midst of the relapse from hell - can't stop vomiting and can't keep fluids down. I have 2+ ketones at the moment so not in hospital territory yet but I won't be surprised if I end up there by the end of the week unless something dramatically improves. Ffs. I'm 19+1 today I really should be over this by now. Sad

eallison88 · 05/01/2016 15:57

sock congratulations! I'm delighted that your sensible health care professionals have got such a comprehensive care plan. Fingers crossed it works for you. You're very brave and we'll all be here to offer listening ears and support where we can!

shoopshoopsong · 05/01/2016 16:48

congratulations sock and I hope you get excellent care this pregnancy you have a brilliant attitude

Oh my goodness icant that is terrible! I waited 5 hours for a cannula once... But to not get one at all and be sent home is so awful and with really dangerous consequences! So sorry that happened to you and relieved the midwife found you. I would hope this would shake the hospital up into giving you better care but I suppose we shalln't hold our breath!
