I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Spandau I don't have an answer, but I wouldn't think that you could cause preterm labour. Can you call the maternity ward just for some reassurance? It can be so difficult to get the worry out of your head, even if you are feeling ok, but even harder to do when you feel rotten.
Barrmee I hope that you've had a better day. This Christmas period with all the stresses does take its toll.
rest up everyone, the festive period is nearly over then some well deserved relaxation!

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 28/12/2015 18:57

spandau I think you need to get it checked out too. Thinking of you andhoping you get a break

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 28/12/2015 20:13

Spandau - didn't want to comment but after bad constipation I did have some bleeding, had an appointment the same afternoon and had a scan and internal and no cause was found, baby was ok. Didn't want to comment and worry you - consultant said could have just been one of those things and wouldnt say it was the constipation/straining that caused it so could have been a coincidence I dont know.
hope the cramps have eased?xx

spandau1980 · 28/12/2015 21:03

Thanks all.. rang maternity said not to strain ... its so difficult though not too isn't it??

Also to try this n that but as we all know HG is not kind and if we eat something we shouldn't we vomit which will cause more dehydration hnece more constipation it's an endless battle.

Forced a fibro gel down and some apricots but been feeling v sick since sigh.. trouble is this stuff needs to be done /eaten daily .. Grrr

spandau1980 · 28/12/2015 22:12

Oh they said sennakot was.ok !?

MotherofPearl · 28/12/2015 22:41

Spandau, I really do feel for you on the constipation front. It's been an ongoing battle for me because of the Ondansetron. For a time I relied on those glycerol suppositories, and I was also helped by the advice of sitting on the loo with your feet on a low stool. Ealli's advice about breathing also helped a lot. I think it was Ealli. Hope you're OK now after the scare about the straining.
Barmee, so sorry you're still feeling so bad at 29 weeks. It's so unfair. I guess at least you're nearly into the final quarter.
Iam, how are you now? Hope that relapse was very short-lived.
I too feel like I've relapsed today. Had an awful vomiting session this afternoon (following the eating of crisps and a satsuma, a truly revolting combination on the return journey). Don't think I should bother trying to eat fruit, unless it's tinned. It always seems to reappear. Trying not to be too negative - am now 21+1 - but still feels like May is an eternity away.
Waves to Meer, Ealli, Icant, Reebok and of course everyone else. Another day done, thank heavens.

Poppyred85 · 28/12/2015 23:13

Hope I'm not derailing pp but not sure whether to add on here or start new discussion. My ds is 3 on Sunday...dh and I starting to think about ttc. I have a complicated story in that the worst part of my pregnancy for nausea and vomiting was from weeks 20-30. It was assumed to be HG as I had had it earlier in the pregnancy but not as badly and it had gone away. I had 7 admissions and all treatments including steroids no help. Ds was then born at 30 weeks (probably unrelated complication). After ds was born I had similar ongoing symptoms that were diagnosed as migraine and am now on effective treatment for that. I am going to see new GP to talk through things but assuming the worst- 9 months of HG and hospital admissions am looking for advice about how people coped with one or more dc at home, work, finances etc. for those of you going through it my thoughts are with you.

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 29/12/2015 00:21

hello poppy, off to sleep now but will reply tomorrow with a detailed reply. (20+6 weeks and spent 95% of this pregnancy in hospital with a DS).

MotherofPearl · 29/12/2015 06:59

Poppy, you're not derailing anything; it sounds like you suffered really badly. You're very brave to be contemplating ttc, but I do understand, especially if you want your DS to have sibling/s. Normally I'd recommend trying pre-emptive meds (usually cyclizine and B6), but if even steroids didn't help you before then it sounds like you need specialist advice beforehand. As for going through HG with other DC, I think preparation is key. Is your DS in childcare at all, or could this be arranged? As you know from before, you'll need to spend a lot of time resting in bed, even if you're not hospitalised. Icant has had a very tough time and has been heroic through it all, I'm sure she'll have excellent advice for you. Keep us posted.

iamdivergent · 29/12/2015 08:30

Started the cyclizine again yesterday and so far so good.

Hope all are coping as well as can be xx

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 29/12/2015 14:18

hi poppy sorry for the slow reply been re admitted. 20+6 and only home a few days between admissions. I had HG last pregnancy but oral medication worked until around 16 weeks when I had a few admissions and steroids etc.
This time around its been mainly in hospital since 5 weeks, I was naive and thought it was a bug at first as I was told couldnt have HG more than once! my DS is nearly 3 and during the week Is in nursery then my partner has him evenings and my parents on weekend. I lost my job so couldnt get tax credits but partner applied and with medical evidence that I was in hospital we could still claim so he could have full time childcare whilst I'm poorly . also hv did get a social worker to help in case we couldn't sort finances and at one stage we really struggled with evenings and weekends (partner works shifts and we need his income) so there was an option of a local foster family which would be the same one each time and they would bring DS to see me regularly - touch wood its not come to it yet.

medication wise definitely take it from the beginning regulary, If you need steriods also you can have them IV which works a lot better.
I've been in so much I had a picc line inserted so I could have IV treatment at home but had to fight for it I was just very unlucky and developed a dvt and sepsis from it, so had another one and the same happened.
I've lupus so a lot of those complications haven't helped.
Any more questions or if I've missed anything feel free to ask. good luck.

Mop thank you for your kind words Flowers

I am I really hope its a sign cyclyzine will work now :) keeping my fingers crossed.

amysmummy12345 · 30/12/2015 00:10

Hi all! Sorry I've been absent, Christmas has been such a whirlwind Confused thankfully the sickness has died down for now, nausea is still there and now I've got the dreaded heartburn Sad looks like I'll be buying shares in Rennie again for this pregnancy!! Hope everyone is surviving? I've got a16 week scan tomorrow to check baby is ok from the cvs tests we had done, I've been feeling the odd movement here and there though so I reckon my little fighter is cooking nicely Smile just hoping that the heart continues to look healthy and no further abnormalities are spotted. It's driving me crazy that I'm 17 weeks on Thursday and we still haven't really told that many people, in my family only my parents and two of my sisters know... Dh is adamant no one should know until heart scan is complete, I'll be almost 21 weeks by then and I'll be gutted as people will just guess rather than being able to announce it Sad

MotherofPearl · 30/12/2015 14:29

How did your scan go Amys? I totally share your addiction to Rennies. I practically eat them like sweets. Apart from helping with the heartburn I find their chalkiness oddly soothing. I know that's a bit weird.
Icant, how are you getting on? Still in hospital? Or maybe home now for a bit?
Quiet on here at the moment: hopefully a good sign. Thankfully 2015 is almost behind us ladies! Smile

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 30/12/2015 16:23

Still in hospital Mop I've had yet another shocking experience which I will write about later when a bit better . hope your doing ok Mop and everyone else Flowers

TwoDrifters · 30/12/2015 17:56

Oh no ICant that sounds ominous!

Well I had my pre-C section discussion with the midwives today and was given my pre-meds to take Sunday night and my surgical stockings to wear Monday morning so it looks like this is happening unless I go into labour before then!

They refused to scan me to let me know if he's still in breech position Angry but promised they'll scan me Monday pre-surgery and I can always choose to go home if his head is engaged.

To be honest, if I'm there and all prepped, I may just go ahead with the section! It's my due date so it's not like he'd be premature and at least it will all be over and hopefully I will stop being sick! (Only twice today so far, but still!)

How is everyone else doing?!

Hope your mum is ok Lucinda and that it was just a routine visit?

amysmummy12345 · 30/12/2015 18:35

I understand what you're saying about the chalky goodness MoP !!

icant hope you're doing ok in hospital, hope your news isn't too bad?

two I hope you have a safe delivery, whichever way little one decides to pop out!

Had my 16 week scan today (have been informed we will have one at 28 weeks too so that growth can be monitored, I'm feeling very looked after!!) all seemed well with the little nugget, heart beat strong and measuring just two days behind where I should be Smile just happy that the cvs test had had no impact on our bean... Hope everyone is having a good day? Lucinda hope granny hen is ok xx

elizabethsmum · 30/12/2015 21:46

Hi to all! So sorry to have been away form the thread for such a long time!! Will try and be a more regular contributor again now! Happy New Year onwards and upwards waves to MOP and Everyone xxx

MadrigalElectromotive · 30/12/2015 22:07

Hi everyone, hope you all got some much needed and deserved rest over Christmas. It was a mixed experience for me - the day itself was one of my good days, and I even managed some roast turkey and roast potato but the days since have been bad. I found having family round really exhausting and I think it has pushed me into a bit of a relapse. Hoping that 2016 will bring improvements for all of us!

Sorry for lack of personals - must get to sleep! Smile

MotherofPearl · 30/12/2015 22:51

Oh gosh Icant, I do hope you're OK. You've had more than enough shocking experiences thus pregnancy to last you a lifetime. Thinking of you.
Two, how annoying they wouldn't scan you to determine if baby is still breech. I thought midwifes could work it out just by feeling your bump? Hoping for the best outcome for you, whatever happens.
Amys, so glad to hear your scan went well today, and no sign of any damage from the CVS. That's really reassuring. You're sounding much more upbeat now than a few weeks ago, which is great.
Madrigal, it's an exhausting time of the year, and while it's nice to see family and friends, it's also very draining. I've really felt this over the last week too, and having the DC home from school/nursery adds to the tiredness. Hope you get some rest soon.
It's lovely to hear from you, ElizabethsMum! I'm pretty sure it was you who, months ago, recommended sparkling elderflower: it's really been a big help to me, and I've got Shoop onto it too. Hope all is well with you and that you've had a good Christmas. X

elizabethsmum · 30/12/2015 22:59

yes the elderflower presse would have been me! DH's work colleague is in early stages of pg after several rounds of IVF and whilst absolutely thrilled about the pregnancy is really suffering (which reminded me that I have been absent from the thread for far too long). She was off to drs today (have reminded DH that she may be signed off, possibly for a few weeks), have also whacked him round the head for suggesting ginger to her as a remedy (and told him he was lucky she didn't puke on him/punch him herself)- he obviously learnt nothing from my hg horrors!! So far have sent him in with peppermint teabags but maybe will send the elderflower tomorrow. Hope you are now on the better side of HG MOP.

eallison88 · 31/12/2015 09:55

Hello all, busy busy at ealli HQ! Quiet on here at the moment which I hope means generally people are coping. Welcome to newbies, sorry you need us but congratulations on impending motherhood!

icant I so hope you're alright.

twodrifters if when they scan you baby's the right way, could you consider asking for induction, or even a sweep? I understand the wanting to end the vomiting, but the recovery time from a c section is longer, so you might prefer to labour. Just an idea!

shoopshoopsong · 31/12/2015 12:47

Hello all, assume we're all out partying tonight? Wink I tried to go out for a couple of hours last night for a friends birthday and have been paying for it with a relapse today. Will be lucky to see 8pm let alone midnight tonight!

Sorry to hear you're still having a wretched time in hospital, icant

Reebok · 31/12/2015 13:04

Hello all, sorry not been on much lately. Having bad days and some okish days. Struggling at moment with dd being home. Just finding her so exhausting. Back to work on Tuesday and dreading it but there's only 10 and a half working weeks before I finish as I'm leaving at 35 weeks this time. I've had enough. Feeling huge at almost 23 weeks and the size of my bump is making my reflux worse. Everyone else tells me I'm small but I feel like I'm showing much quicker this time.

Hope everyone else is managing ok. X

MadrigalElectromotive · 31/12/2015 18:11

Just wanted to wish all of you party animals a happy new year! I very much doubt I will stay awake long enough to see in the new year but never mind. Hoping for better days for all of you.

MotherofPearl · 31/12/2015 19:06

Lol, yes Shoop, I imagine we'll all be donning heels and heading out for big nights out & taxi queues at 3am Grin-actually, pregnancy is a great excuse to avoid all that, I think! Can't imagine anything worse, HG or not!
Wishing everyone a happy New Year!! I'm pretty sure we'll all be glad to see the back of 2016, and look forward to meeting our babies in 2016.
