I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

spandau glad too. you can buy enemas from amazon, I think

icant .... so sorry to hear the situation. Medical staff don't think of the practicalities sometimes :/

Meerka · 09/10/2015 13:34

spandau the smell thing and the sickness -do- subside slowly, but the less-than-good news is that sometimes it takes longer. 14 weeks, you can hope to get some improvement. Occasionally it takes longer. There will be good days and bad, but slowly the good days will become more frequent

MotherofPearl · 09/10/2015 14:05

Hello All.
Icant, that's so frustrating. Why do they have to wait for more deterioration, why not give you the best chance to manage the sickness before you have another admission?!
Spandau, hospital is the best place for you I think. Meerka is right that you can buy enema kits from amazon. And I find the cheap glycerol suppositories from Boots work well for me. Get your OH to buy them for you. The relief is amazing!
Barmee, how are you feeling nowadays?
Reebok, sorry to hear you were feeling so bad last night. The time between 3 and 7pm is awful for me too. Nothing I eat or drink will stay down.
Ealli, vomit in the bra sounds bad! But nice to hear the breastfeeding is getting easier. I can't wait to get to that stage. Breastfed both my DC and loved it! Basically saw it as an excuse to eat all the nice food (and cake!) I missed out on in pregnancy!
Trying to get myself in gear to fetch DD from school. Haven't done it for a month but usual help has fallen through so am going to have to brave it. Going to wash out my spit cup in readiness. Grin

BarmeeMarmee · 09/10/2015 15:30

How did the school run go MoP?

I'm ok. Still getting good days and bad days, but I'm surviving... Glad it's the weekend tomorrow and I'm not working for once!

MotherofPearl · 09/10/2015 16:30

Survived it thanks Barmee. Set off early and armed myself with one of Shoop's Costa Coolers beforehand. It helps me not to spit if I have constant tiny sips of this, although now I'm home and I can feel it churning around, and doubtless it will reappear shortly. Still, it served its purpose. Glad to hear that you're surviving, and at least getting some good days.

BarmeeMarmee · 09/10/2015 16:55

I had to laugh today at the school gates, a couple of people said how well I was looking and how pregnancy suited me, lol! If only they knew! Glad you survived MoP.

Hope everyone else is ok.

Corabell · 09/10/2015 18:11

I went to see the doctor today and he gave me 10 days worth of cyclizine so if I need to start taking it I can request a prescription for more. He wasn't sure what pyridoxine (spelling!) but said he will look into it. I'm going to see how I feel in the morning and take it ( or not).

For the PP who was asking hypothyroidism is the opposite of hyperthyroidism. Fortunately the synthetic hormones I take don't interact badly with cyclizine but if I am unable to take my daily medication and hold it down I will become very ill with hypothyroidism and it can harm the baby if it can't get the thyroxine that it needs in the first trimester.

Meerka · 09/10/2015 18:33

It's vitamin B6, corabell. Very simple.

give it 3-4 days on cyclizine. if you don't find any improvment, there are other meds you can try too. also, any sleepiness side effect might wear off. Different people react differently.

LucindaE · 09/10/2015 19:51

MotherofPearl I missed that about the school run; I'm so glad those coffee things worked for you, like Reebok coffee doesn't agree with me in normal health, so I thought that very brave of you. The scent of aired sheets is so soothing. I could endure lavender too, which is supposed to be sleep inducing.
Barmee That is comforting, in a way; if one feels like s*e, it's nice to know you don't look like it.
Clarabell I'm glad you got the meds, and they won't interact badly with your normal ones.
I hope lemons and everyone is OK (comparatively).
Waves to Meerka.
I rather miss elizaabethsmum...

Hi all, hope you're managing to get through this evening.
Spandau, glad to hear you're finally in hospital...best place for you! Icant sorry you're having a tough time getting meds. Is it worth calling the pregnancy sickness support number for some help?
Corabell hope the meds help. Give it a few days to kick in.
Mop well done! I haven't dropped/picked up dd to nursery since I got sick. In fact she's so use to me not leaving the house/bed/a certain spot on sofa. Good on ya!
Ealli thanks for sharing the story. Made me smile.
Barmee glad you're having good days.

Today has been hard. Headache all day so spent the day laying in darkness and feeling nauseous. Projectile vomited including some food I age yesterday! How is that possible? Currently in bed with a lemon and lime ice lolly to sooth my stomach. Another day down.
Waves weakly to Lucinda, Meerka, Ems, Mellee, Ginger, Shoop and everyone else. Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.

LucindaE · 09/10/2015 20:51

Reebok Oh dear, poor you. I hope the flutters continue to cheer you.
spandau I meant to say, like Meerka unfortunately, for most sufferers, this does last a little longer than the supposed magic 12 weeks (though from what I have hard, even with ms 14 weeks is typical) but it does get so much better and most people get a lot better somewhere after fourteen weeks. As Meerka says, those good days are a sign of more to come.
Almost everyone gets a lot better; things seem to peak for people around ten weeks, from anecdotal evidence. Take it one day at a time or even one hour at a time.
Hope everyone is coping. spandau How are things now?
Hope eallisonjunior is better today...

Back home now. Back to horrid stomach pain and feeling very sick :(
As soon as iv came out I felt rough ...
I'm 10 1 d now
So so so hope things start to improve ..even improve so I take meds n they help more...
Why on iv did I keep food down
Sigh
False feeling of better Ness
Grumpy face

Xxx

MotherofPearl · 09/10/2015 22:04

Oooo, yes, I also like lavender Lucinda. But must be the proper stuff. Fake lavender reminds me of horrid air freshener.
Reebok, sorry to hear that you've had a bad day and a headache. Do you find you get a lot of headaches with the Ondanestron?
Spandau, sorry you're going backwards so quickly after being discharged. It's so frustrating that we can't have IV at home.
I've been trying to think about any positives from the last few weeks of HG. I remember Mellee saying HG gives you good abs from all the retching! To this I would add a slightly healthier bank balance: for me, no commuting, no meals out or drinks out, no temptations of shopping because of not leaving the house seem to mean less spending! I guess it's a small compensation. I'd rather be broke than this sick! Night all.

Reebok · 10/10/2015 00:59

Woke up from pain in stomach...constipation. Was awful! For a second it reminded me of beginning of labour. Had to use suppository. Now feel like throwing up. Yes to more headaches Mop but I need this medication as it controls vomiting.

eallison88 · 10/10/2015 06:34

So, infacol truly is the nectar of the gods... Once settled last night at midnight, only woke at 2.30 and 5.45 for feeds. This is after 3 very disturbed nights... This leads me to wonder... would infacol work for adults? I know I had horrid trapped wind at times! Or is there an adult version?

eallison88 · 10/10/2015 06:35

reebok how you doing? Feeling a little better this morning?

Reebok · 10/10/2015 08:14

I agree ealli. Used it loads for dd as she had reflux...still has reflux! It's wonderful stuff!

Feel rubbish. Barely slept from pain in stomach. I have lots of trapped wind causing pain. Doubt I will get rest. Oh has been complaining all morning that he can't rest on his day off...welcome to my world! Dd is really playing up lately! Think I will have to take over with her once I can pry myself out of bed.

spandau1980 · 10/10/2015 09:23

My little one is playing up to. This is only natural as too young to understand and crying out for attention. I feel so guilty I'm not as active with her.
Iv have horrid stomach cramps too . Joys of constipation or sickness or hey why not have both when it gets too bad :p

LucindaE · 10/10/2015 09:53

Oh dear, suffering all round. Things can only get better. Gentle cyber pats on offer to anyone who can stand them. spandau It is too bad you didn't even get a few days relief from the IV As you say, your LO playing up is a healthy reaction to the situation, but it doesn't make things any easier. This will all be a distant nightmare in time, but time goes on leaden wings at this stage. There was a woman on the thread, kalidasa who was in hospital for weeks at a time: I used to think 'My goodness, what can I say to encourage her?' But she came through twice, and has two boys now,and so will you. It must be so difficult with other LO's; I so agree with Reebok and others; why can't there be home rehydration its? There are under medicare in the US, I know from a US based thread I had to take over for a few months, so I suppose it is very expensive. I don't think people without private health insurance get effective treatment at all over there... But is a home kit more expensive than several admissions?
MotherofPearl I'm glad you can stand fresh lavender; it is so relaxing.
Did you go on foot or drive for the pick up? That was very brave.
How are gingerlemons Ican't and everyone.
Still tickled by Barmee being told she looks healthy...
eallison I don't think they had that when my daughter was a baby.
She had dreadful colic and tore clumps of my hair out in a frenzy Sad.

spandau Actually, that sounds tactless of me; after all, this is your fifth, even if the earlier ones were not quite so bad.

OP posts:
MotherofPearl · 10/10/2015 10:46

Reebok, sorry you had a rough night. I had insomnia so took ages to fall asleep. Tired today which will mean more sickness. I agree with you and Spandau about the DCs playing up - I've noticed this with mine and I do feel guilty about us relying too much on screens to get through this.
Lucinda, school is just a 5 min walk away so I shouldn't have complained really!
Looks like thread is nearly full already. Hope everyone is coping today.

LucindaE · 10/10/2015 11:33

MotherofPearlYou had every right to complain; five minutes' walk seems like a trip up Everest when you are really ill...Sorry to hear of insomnia.
Interestingly, lots of people are complaining about a cold which gives you fairly violent stomach cramps (men and non pregnant women, I mean). Does this mean there's a nasty bug going about which might well complicate Hyperemesis symptoms if people get it as several people on here complained of stomach pains and back pains and spandau of a cold. Yes, this thread has filled up petty fast. I'll do a new one sometime today or tomorrow am.

Meerka · 10/10/2015 11:55

I was told that during preg your food digestion can really slow down. you end up with lots of wind in your intestines. my gynecologist insisted I took someGavison after a certain point. She said that the wind inself and distended intestines can make you feel sicker.

Maybe some gavison would be worth trying, for people haunted by wind?

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 10/10/2015 12:00

Sorry I went quiet and I had loads to reply to and I've not forgotten who! :( I can't use the laptop anymore as it gives awful headaches not that using my phone doesn't but to sum up a reply about yesterday basically they said they will only admit ondanstaron on admission.
Re hospital being 30+ miles away I've had ambulance from local hospital the last few times as I refuse to go direct there.
Sorry to hear others having a bad day :(
I am too, DP Is working until 6pm and took all the cash and my card and no way of contacting him, my kidneys are pretty sore (lupus) and sickness bad so want to see OOH but will have to wait until he's home 6pm as me & DS have no way there and no one to bring us either so going to cope with it until he's home.
can't help but feel really annoyed with him
DS playing up too, he has some SN which doesn't help.
Sorry for the non personal replies I feel really bad Blush

Reebok · 10/10/2015 12:27

I've tried gaviscon and can't keep it down. Comes up instantly Meerka but thanks for the suggestion.

Had to resort to an enema once again. It seems to be the only way I can go. Suppose not really helping that I've been struggling with liquids.
