I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

OK, read through. Hearty congratulations again SkiptonLass Grin
Melleebacca and others, great advice as ever. I do hope you enter the Pink Castle too, soon.
lemonslemonslemons Welcome.I'm sorry you are suffering so soon.
I do so agree with others that you need meds asap, as unfortunately, I don't want to alarm you, but if you are suffering so early it can be a sign that you might have it fairly badly and a lot of doctors say 'pre emptive' meds can help the neurological vomiting responses from kicking in too much, or some such thing (not at all the same thing as saying 'it's all psychological'). I think you will need to be signed off too, particularly as the loos are so far away. How are liquids staying down, flat coke, ice lollies, jelly, ice cubes, soda water, fizzy water, the juice of tinned fruit? As a rule doctors treat it as a medical emergency if a pregnant woman hasn't been been able to keep down fluids for over twenty four hours.
Ginger Sorry, I remember you were on just before my pc was targeted.
Meleebacca's definition of dehydration seems very useful, if you only wee once in 24 hours; also, dark urine, dry skin and mouth, inelastic skin, blurry vision and headache are all signs to watch out for. There's some disagreement about the value of buying in kesostix from chemists to test your urine for ketones, as they only are reliable measures of dehydration for a short time, and later on measure starvation.

Reebok Congratulations on scan news and on new niece, sorry she's not well or her mother. Was it you who quoted this great quote:
'Soon when all is well, you're going to look back at this period in your life and be glad you never gave up.'
ICan't Glad you are out, but sorry you feel so ill. How are you now?
If you'll forgive the expression, I can't believe what that midwife advised.
Talk about insensitive. Yes, women with Hyperemesis just love lying in bed doing nothing.
bugista Oh dear. How are things now? Don't be too ambitious in your plans to return to work. Was it you or TwoDrifters who said she could work from home?
shoop Sorry, I messed things up there. It was you who were only given a weeks' supply of meds. How are things now?
spandau Oh no, I am like others amazed that the HA doesn't do more; they can surely attack the sewage problem while they try and rehouse you? Do they know how ill you are? How are liquids staying down? I would add suppositories to list of things to help, though chemists won't sell them to pregnant women, they use them in maternity wards.
MotherofPearl How are things?
eallison How are you and baby? Liking the Pink Castle at the end of the Hyperemesis wilderness trail?
Apologies to anyone rudely ignored.

Baby and I are getting to know each other, thanks lucinda! Struggling to Crack breastfeeding., but getting there. And the rounds and rounds of toast with Nutella are definitely helping!

Something to hopefully make you all smile...A number of times during pregnancy I had vomit in my hair due to not managing to hold it back in time...today I put baba up to my shoulder to wind him and ended up with projectile vomit in my hair... HG certainly helped my rather relaxed response of simply tying it back!!

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 06/10/2015 15:06

Thanks lucinda having a rough day even the coke and anti sickness isn't working so having an hours rest before collecting DS.
I know I was quite shocked! You'd think midwifes wouldn't understand?! Clearly not though!

Gingerlady123 · 06/10/2015 15:35

Eal- I am so looking forward to toast when this baby is out. So glad things are ok now.

I can't think- hope your ok, I hate when I can't even drink liquids without it coming up.
Still got my headache today, seeing midwife on Thursday for sixteen week app have to do a urine sample. Will their be much help/advice then can give me with my vomiting or do I need to see the doctor again?

Gingerlady123 · 06/10/2015 15:41

Also I've had this pain in my right thigh for weeks now. Everytime I move it's incredibly painful especially after sitting still for a long time and then eases up. I'm now convinced it's a blood clot forming as I can't drink much.

LucindaE · 06/10/2015 16:58

Ginger Oh dear, it might be worth ringing up to ask for advice, for the reassurance as much as anything. Did you say you were on meto?
eallsion That is a nice picture you sum up; baby puke is much less unpleasant,at least.
Ican't Unfortunately, I don't think midwives get adequate training about Hyperemesis, and how to treat sufferers, at all.
EMS I meant to say, about your swimsuit; is it very stretchy or a maternity one?
How do people find the smell of sheets which have been left outside to air? I found that much more bearable if it's possible to do that.

Managed to colour my hair myself this morning but have spent the rest of the day paying for it, feeling rotten. Took some recycling out to the bins and so had to cross the garden. Halfway back I realised I was going to be sick and wouldn't make it indoors. Cue vomit on the lawn. Blush Luckily it was mostly foam and bile.
Sorry so many others are also feeling bad. Waves weakly to all.

eallison88 · 06/10/2015 17:53

ginger as lovely as my midwife was, and she was really supportive and encouraging with the HG, there's Not a lot she could do by way of meds etc. Prob best to book an apt with a GP, especially with your concerns about your leg (which in sure is nothing, but definitely worth getting checked out!)

Gingerlady123 · 06/10/2015 18:03

I've decided. I'm taking the day off and going to the doctors tomorrow. I can't do this anymore. I need some time off to rest, I've come home headache, rib pain, bad nausea and just want to cry.
Mop- :( you have my sympathy.

Gingerlady123 · 06/10/2015 18:04

Yes i am on meto.
Can I take parcetomal with it?

Reebok · 06/10/2015 18:09

Where are the bloody good days??? I wish they would come along already. Feeling like shit. Never ending nausea today followed by horrendous vomiting. In tears...I don't feel like I can do this anymore. Sorry to hear others are unwell...not well enough to reply individually.

lemonslemonslemons · 06/10/2015 18:50

You lot really are lovely! Thanks LucindaE. I must call the dr tomorrow to book in. At the moment I'm only sick once a day (midday) but struggle again at 3 and after dinner (just ate). I forgot that 2 weeks ago I booked to go out for dessert tonight with my aunt and she is so excited, but I don't know how I'll eat anything! The JOYS. Just ice cream I think Sad Also, no way was I this tired with DD!

spandau1980 · 06/10/2015 19:16

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 06/10/2015 19:23

Sorry your having such a rubbish time reebok, spandau & ginger (sorry if I missed anyone out)
spandau I found buccastem a lifesaver in my last pg it worked quite well so I hope it does for you, if not hospital it is! Hopefully OH listened!
reebok not much advice to give as I'm in the moping club today. Animals aren't expected to live like this.
Sorry not in a good place today :/
waves to everyone else

spandau1980 · 06/10/2015 19:53

It takes a strong mind to cope with this on a daily basis
Normal sickness bugs ect are over with in 24/48 hrs so you go to bed and think I'll be better soon
With this its
Oh no I've gotta do this over n over n over

Also got a uti
Got antibiotics and massive tablets for constipation
Er hello
I vomit tablets grrrr xxx

Gingerlady123 · 06/10/2015 19:56

Lemons- good luck at the doctors tomorrow.
Spandau- I hope you feel better soon even if it means hospital.
A bit scared about my leg tonight even though I know a blood clot wouldn't just hurt when I move. But everytime I get up my thigh kills until I get moving a bit. I suffer with anxiety and it's really scaring me.
sOrry none of Us seem to of had a good day :(

bugista · 06/10/2015 22:22

Spandau I know what you mean about a sickness bug being over but this going on and on and on...it def sounds like you should go to the hospital!
Ginger it's my 16 week midwife appt on Thurs too. :) I would def go to the GP about meds and your thigh.
Reebok, MoP and Icant so sorry you're suffering badly also. Just keep on keeping on, every moment is a moment closer. We are all behind you. Loved that quote you put up reebok.
Ealli soo happy for you and your new addition, hilarious about the vom. We are all far too acquainted with vom now! Are you at the hospital or back home?
Lucinda I should be able to work from home so def gonna suggest that to my manager - hopefully she'll go for that!
I had a vom free day today which I'm feeling happy about, I'll be 16 weeks on Sat so praying it's improving from here. That said the nausea is still pretty bad...!

eallison88 · 06/10/2015 22:58

bugista, baba is a week old today, and we were home same day (born 1 am home 4pm). Settling into some kind of routine - well, not routine as such, more all getting used to each other!

lemons let us know how you get on at doctors. Beat to try to be as forceful as you can and try to get meds now before you get caught in a horrid vicious cycle.

Everyone, remember, you've battled through another day and won. Tick it off, get what sleep you can, cos tomorrow is another day. This too shall pass!

Reebok · 07/10/2015 09:03

Morning all, hope everyone has an ok day today. Woke up in pain. My entire body aches...barely managing to sleep from the pain. Toss and turn constantly. On top of it dd was unwell last night so cried for most of it and wanted to sleep with me. As a result I already feel like crap this morning and in tears. Got my booking in tomorrow morning and the letter says to expect to be at the clinic for 3 hours...I'm dreading it. I just know I will come home and feel awful just from being out the house.

Eali, glad baby is doing well and you're enjoying motherhood.

Lemons hope doc app hoes well today.

Waves weakly to everyone else.

Gingerlady123 · 07/10/2015 10:37

Reebok- sorry you had a crap night last night.
3 hours!. Hopefully it'll be shorter than that. Mine was one hour and a bit.
Hope you daughter is feeling better soon and you as well.

I keep reminding my self each day is one closer to meeting baby and the end of sickness. Decided this morning i am going to doctors tomorrow for definite. Dry skin on face today and very concerned I am dehydrated. Managed about 700ml fluid yesterday and 500ml of that was Dr pepper so not great but better than nothing I suppose.
I'm really scared dehydration will affect baby?

LucindaE · 07/10/2015 12:03

Gingerlady If you are dehydrated, dark scanty urine, as Mellebacca says, not peeing much in a day, headache, blurry vision, etc all common symtoms, and as you say, dry skin, it is a good idea to go to hospital to have it checked out because if dehydration goes on too long it does become bad for the baby, wheras not eating is far less of a problem. Don't want to worry you, but this does need to be taken seriously. Those magic kesostix from a chemists will measure dehydration if it hasn't been going on too long, but at some point they stop doing that, and I'm not at all sure which(not medically qualified). I haven't heard you can't take paracetomol with meto, but not sure.
Spandau I am glad you've got various meds, and made OH sit down and listen. What is it with so many males? Why are they incapable of listening so often? I remember reading a solemn suggestion that teenage boys generally don't listen because they suffer from some affliction of the hearing to do with hormones. if so, I'd say it lasted a lifetime with some of 'em...
At least, you retain your wit, if nothing else, lol about 'legs like Mr Soft'.
Reebok I do hope it isn't that long, my goodness. A veteran like you doesn't need me to say 'take a discreet bag, for those little accidents'...
Sorry for awful night, how exhausting. About coffee, you must be the only person I've heard of who finds it sickening, even without Hyperemesis. But for me, Brew one of the things worst about the affliction is not being ale to face tea. I think it is possible to face most of the things life throws at you with a cup of tea, but without one Sad.
lemons I hope you have seen a sympathetic dr and got some meds?
MotherofPearl Congratulations on hair. It will give you a boost.
eallison Waves. I hope that the hideous memories of Hyperemesis are gradually fading.

spandau1980 · 07/10/2015 12:03

Only severe dehydration will affect baby ginger.
Get to docs and see what they say.
Even though they can be pretty useless x

Reebok what booking in appointment? Just the first one with midwife?
If that's 3 hours she can shove it til you feel better lol
Sorry but I feel so ill that ppl have to work round me now ... I'm all outta sh*ts to give

Environmental health have served the HA and they are here digging up the sewage pipes as we speak .... hassle I could do without but needs desperately to be sorted :)
Dd off to nursery for 3 hours now
I used to hate her going now it's a relief
Miss her totally but feel useless with her sometimes :/
Reebok how old is your DD ??
Waves to everyone xx

Meerka · 07/10/2015 13:01

(sorry that i've been so quiet, things are super busy at home)

Gingerlady123 · 07/10/2015 13:12

Thanks, I'm prone to dry skin in the colder months as it is.
I will be seeing doctor tomorrow. Baby will be ok until then won't they? I can't leave work now as I have no way of getting home, nine mile walk and No public transport and no one to give me a lift. We get company transport but they won't take as home in the middle of the day.
I am actually keeping down liquid this morning.
My weeing is normal, if I pinch my skin it still bounces back. I have had headaches but I've been suffering with them since before I was pregnant.
Oh doesn't think I'm dehydrated.

Men at work pissing me off today, moaning about their snotty noses. One bloke even said "I vomited yesterday, first time this year" lucky for them they'll be better in a few days.

Gingerlady123 · 07/10/2015 15:24

Hospital after work or wait until midwife and doctor tomorrow ?
