I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Ginger I think your working yourself into a lather.
I had horrendous anxiety in last pregnancy so know how you feel.
It feels like they ll miss something and it'll all go wrong.
It won't ! Baby ll be fine but get to GPS and get yourself some reassurance :)
Constant sickness makes us less able to cope with everything it's no wonder we all feel like a bunch of crazy s at time lol
Buccastem ain't stopping me vomit :( got docs at 10 30 but they re ripping up my main sewage pipes now
No.toilet ! May have to park up at docs and wait then I'm off to parents if she don't say hospital :/

Thank you Ginger. I know it's easier said than done but try not to worry. Having said that I worried until I felt dd kick. I'm sure everything will go well for you today.

Spandau sorry you feel so awful. I will repeat once again, that you need to go to the hospital.

Has anyone heard from Thisisnow? Hoping her silence means a hg recovery is in process.

Got to go to the clinic soon....arghhhh....hope breakfast stays down!

BarmeeMarmee · 08/10/2015 09:49

Morning all. Corabell I definitely think (with hindsight) that preemptive meds make a big difference. As bad as it's been I've managed to stay out of hospital this time. Although I'm sure that's because my lovely GP prescribed ondansetron early on top of cyclizine. She thankfully listened when I told her what I needed. Although this is HG pregnancy number three! (I must be mad).

Must be the day for appointments-I'm seeing the consultant midwife this afternoon. Let's see what delights she has in store! 18 weeks today and still struggling but I think better than I was, although now the SPD is keeping me awake and tiredness makes the nausea etc so much worse!

Gingerlady123 · 08/10/2015 10:16

well back from midwife appointment. urine is clear of infection but she didn't check for dehydration so no waiting on a call back from the doctors. sent dp out to buy some ketostix just now. will see what they say and take it from their. headache present today but ive always been prone to them. heard heartbeat on doppler which is nice. she said she may struggle to find it but the second she put it on me their it was straight away. blood work came back all clear as well and apparently i have very good iron levels all though not sure how.
surprisingly enough i have not vomited since Tuesday now and kept down a whopping 1.5 litres yesterday woo. never thought i would get excited over that.
spandau- i have suffered with anxiety for five years. I wasn't surprised that pregnancy has made me worry about everything. I find it so hard and just want my baby here safely. I hope you get some good treatment today. I know hospital can be horrible but it sounds like you need it :) best of luck today.

bugista · 08/10/2015 11:09

I've also got a midwife appointment today! My 16 week one. Good luck to everyone going in to see people today - hope everything goes well and no one voms although if you do then sod it!

Hugs all round xx

LucindaE · 08/10/2015 11:11

Carabell Welcome. Many congratulations on new pregnancy. I so agree with eallison and others about pre-emptive meds. My goodness, I hope that sickness was the way doctors count, and 100 retches as distinct from 100 separate pukings sessions Envy. Is 'hypothyrodism' the opposite of 'hyperthyrodism'? Not being medically qualified,I have no idea if it will preclude some meds, but here's Meerkas excellent summary of meds to which eallison makes reference. They are sometimes used together to make them more effective, and I have heard that GP's sometimes prescribe B6 with cyclizine as it makes it more effective: -

'Cyclizine (old fashioned anti-histamine; can make you sleepy). Good with vitamin B6.
Metoclopramide (empties the stomach faster, less to upchuck)
Domperidone (similar)
Prochlorperazine (stemetil/Avomine) (works on your sense of balance; also a travel remedy; can be good for some people).
Promethazine (called Phenergan)(stronger old fashioned anti-histamine, also sleepy-making)
Ondansetron (the strongest and the strongest and many people find the best, but causes constipation, but causes constipation).

so promethazine is similar to cyclizine but stronger.

I am NOT a doctor or pharmacist!!! Please bear that in mind.'

Ginger I do feel for you, as Reebok knows even better. I had an mmc with my first pregnancy, and it made me very nervous in the second. I am confident that all will be well for you today anyway, but statistics mean nothing when one is anxious about an expected baby.
Reeobok Oh no,not another bad night. What with the hormones, no wonder your head aches.
ICan't Sorry you have had a bad night too.
lemons How are things?
How is bugista twodrifters melleebacca and, as others say,
Thisisnow and everyone?
Must rush off now; back soon...Apologies if I've rudely ignored anyone, or cross posted.

Booking in is done and I'm home again laying in bed. It's taken it out of me. Midwife was lovely. Very friendly and personal. Sympathetic and whenever I needed to spit or get rid of phlegm she was fine. She went by the earlier dates even though I said the scan on Monday put me at 10 weeks...so I'm down as 11 weeks until scan says otherwise.

Well done re the water Ginger. I'm dying to be able to drink that much. I'm still on sips...

Waves to Mother Hen and everyone else.

Gingerlady123 · 08/10/2015 12:09

well done reebok on managing the appointment, my midwife was reluctant to change my due date until after my dating scan as well. its the 19.03.2016 now. when is yours?
back from doctors. urine clear, blood pressure etc all good. so just a prescription of 100 Cyclizine tablets.
hope everyone else is ok

LucindaE · 08/10/2015 13:37

Reebok Congratulations on that. I have obviously lost track of new procedures, the booking in appointment used to take place at the same time as the scan, at twelve weeks, but with your medical history is this earlier?
Ginger Congratulations on getting meds. I've heard they take a few days to work, and make you sleepy, but that gets better. What is the sick note situation or have I stupidly missed something?

OP posts:
Reebok · 08/10/2015 13:52

Thanks Ginger and Lucinda. No I have joined a study for ladies who have mc...so I get extra scans which is what I had on Monday. My dating scan is on 22nd October.
Ginger glad you are on meds. Hope they start to work quickly.

Reebok · 08/10/2015 14:16

Been feeling some flutters for a few days and today it's getting stronger. Definitely not gas...I remember feeling these with dd at 13/14 weeks. Hoping it really is the flutters. It's cheering me up.

MotherofPearl · 08/10/2015 16:08

Sorry for silence the last few days. Been feeling a lot better in the evenings, but still really struggling during the day. Also worked out that I have a sinus infection: headaches, phlegm, and terrible pain in my face especially above eye sockets. This has made me even more miserable.
Lucinda, in answer to your question, I do much prefer the smell of bed covers dried - or at least aired - outdoors, but not always possible.
Reebok, glad you got a nice midwife and that your appointment went OK.
Ginger, hope the cyclizine does you some good.
Hope everyone else's various appointments have gone well today.

shoopshoopsong · 08/10/2015 16:32

Hi all, hope everyone's appts went well.
reebok that's lovely about the flutters, I hope that gives you a much needed boost
MoP glad the evenings at least are getting easier.
I can't remember who asked about whether you can get Cyclizine over the counter but yes you can but they might not sell it to you if they know you're pregnant unless you cry lots and their colleague eventually sells it to you..(I say from bitter experience of my prescription not being ready once) also it's quite expensive - was almost £20 for a pack of 100, so do try and get a prescription if you can.

I am so so tired. My vomiting has reduced so much but I can barely manage getting out of bed and have had to do half an hours work at a time a couple of times a day. My big deadline is next week and my husbands taking Monday and Tuesday off before he starts his new job on Wednesday so he can help me with my work bless him.

MotherofPearl · 08/10/2015 16:45

Thanks Shoop. Your husband sounds lovely! HG is totally exhausting and draining. I have to rest after doing a small task like taking a shower! And I spend every afternoon from 2-5pm resting in bed.
I tried buying cyclizine OTC towards the beginning of this pregnancy but was refused and told it was prescription only.

Reebok · 08/10/2015 20:11

You poor things. Sorry that hear you're so poorly but glad evenings are better Mop.
Good to hear dh is helping you shoop. He sounds like a wonderful man. Wish my oh could be as supportive. He expected me to go to dds parents evening! Idiot! How on earth does he expect me to manage that when evenings are my worst. I spend my evenings throwing up! Feeling rubbish. By 3, the nausea gets really bad and anything eaten is guaranteed to come up by 7pm. Hoping the vomiting is done for today. In bed clutching my bowl again.

Meerka · 08/10/2015 21:38

corabell pre-emptive meds are a Good Thing. Have you got a helpful doctor? Cyclizine now is an excellent idea. You can buy it over the counter for sure, though ... send your other half to get it. Unfortunately pharmacists are getting wise to women taking cyclizine early on in preg. I got some last time I was in the UK but had to do some fast talking (have come to like it purely as an anti-histamine).

It is absolutely not Prescription Only but they may um ... lie. If they do, ask to see their copy of the British National Formulary. It might bluff them... though it is the right of any pharmacist to not sell you something.

ealli how is tinyealli*?

thinking of everyone. Hope your sinus infection is quick to heal MoP. it's the last thing you need now!

reebok do hope it was babyflutters you felt. It does help to feel the reality of the little one, after all the sickness in the first few weeks. Also it's about this time you can hope to expect some improvement, and you've had such a time of it.

Wishing everyone a quiet and reasonably okay evening.

eallison88 · 08/10/2015 22:27

Tinyealli is doing well, thanks meerka. Its taken us both some time, but breastfeeding doesn't hurt any more (most of the time!). He has a cold though (we think) so has snuffles, and projectile vomiting. Ladies, I had puddles of vomit in my bra yesterday. I never managed that whilst pregnant!

Meerka · 09/10/2015 09:22

you'd think all that vom would be ended when he pops out, wouldn't you!

spandau1980 · 09/10/2015 09:35

Dear all
After throwing at docs I was sent to hospital.
I just got there and threw again
Been on drip and anti emetics since 1pm yest. Last threw at 3pm yest.

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 09/10/2015 09:41

Hey good to hear from you spandau sorry to hear your in hosp but it's amazing how good you feel after IV things! I found I had a couple good days when home afterwards before it became bad again.
Had a scan this morning my little bean was doing a dance and I'm 8+6 instead of 8+2 but those extra 4 days have made my day haha! Waiting to see consultant for more anti sickness as GP won't prescribe still and my hospital Pescription has run out! Going to be brave and ask for ondanstaron too!
Glad to hear things going well eallison
Hi to everyone else :)

LucindaE · 09/10/2015 11:32

spandau You poor thing. I'm glad that experience at the doc's decided them to send you to emergency. Actions speak louder than words, after all. I hope you feel a lot better soon. Is OH taking care of others? It's so difficult for sufferers with a family. I hope the toast doesn't 'say hello again' (great expression by the way).
MotherofPearl
Glad you are better in the evenings.
Ican't Happy news about scan and wishing you all luck to get Ondansetron.
Reebok Happy news about flutters, too. I felt them about thirteen weeks myself. Silly OH, I hope he went when he saw you couldn't?
eallison Poor baby and lol re a bra full of baby vomit.
shoop I'm glad you've got those days of help.
Back soon. Apologies for overlooking anyone.

OP posts:
ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 09/10/2015 12:22

Thank you lucinda no ondanstaron only on admission again . Having a good day but Dr wanted wee sample - 2+ ketones, 1+ leucolytes and protein. How ironic when I'm well that keatones appear?! (By well I mean only 5 vomits so far today and held down a cuppa!)
They said if rough again then back to hospital tomorrow but it's just not possible to go 30+ miles away when I don't drive, I've a toddler, and dp (who also doesn't drive) works 12hr days.
But it's too much for them to prescribe ondansatron?!
Sorry rant over!

LucindaE · 09/10/2015 12:42

Ican't That is a disappointment. Did they say why no ondansetron, expense, or a medical reason? I believe it can give migraine headaches to those susceptible, and a couple of women on these threads have had to come off it because of that, but not invariably, You're a long way from that hospital. Did they send you by ambulance when you were admitted?

OP posts:
BarmeeMarmee · 09/10/2015 12:42

Sorry to hear it's such a battle Icant - you'd think they'd see the bigger picture wouldn't you?!

Spandau glad you're in the best place.

Ealli that made me giggle! Grin

Reebok, everyone else, how are you today?

spandau1980 · 09/10/2015 13:01

Icant
Call docs again
Demand it
Say ur I'll and u can't get to hospital
Say they are risking you and the baby
Be very very firm
Good luck
I said I'd terminate if no help. Soon got fingers out their arse!!!!

Lady's who are over 12 weeks or can remember (I sure a she heck cant)
Does the horrific sense of smell and sickness start to get better gradually after week 12 ish?
I can't do 6 more weeks of this shit
