I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Personally ginger I'd go to the hospital. Have you got any ketostix to test your urine?

Gingerlady123 · 07/10/2015 16:57

I don't have any know. Will go hospital but will they admit me if I am dehydrated?

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 07/10/2015 17:44

They probably will ginger but you will feel so much better!
I've had 2x hospital admissions, the last one I had no keatones and by the time the Dr seen me in A&E 3 hrs later I had ++ so can change quickly. Also I had a few days rest from vomiting as IV anti sickness is amazing . Hope you feel better soon!
Hello to everyone else :)

Gingerlady123 · 07/10/2015 18:31

I'm going to wait it until tomorrow.
My urine is clear and I'm holding down everything today.
I feel to exhausted for hospital. I have the start of a cold. Runny nose and sore throat and I just can't bring my self to sit in a hospital. I'm of to bed at 6:30pm
I don't think I'll be so bad it affects the baby. But tomorrow midwife and doctors.

Reebok · 07/10/2015 18:39

Yep will definitely pack bags Lucinda.

Spandau yes it's my booking in appointment. Glad it's at 10 weeks this time rather than 8 like last time as that's my worst time.

Ginger good that the urine is clear. If you feel bad get checked out tomorrow. Midwife should be able to check your ketones.

Oh is annoying me. He's cooking and keeps asking me where things are...expecting me to come into the kitchen and show/help him. Told him to piss off! The smell of cooking is making me sick. Idiot.

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 07/10/2015 18:49

Agh they just don't understand do they reebok?! If only they had to go through this...
Personal question - I was just wondering how long your off work for?
My sicknote ends Tuesday and headteacher has said she wants me back then Hmm

Melleebacca · 07/10/2015 18:57

Ginger - don't worry too much, it sounds like you're only mildly dehydrated. Still good to be checked out tomorrow. With HG, you tend to worry a lot more, fortunately where I am, they will hook you up to a liter of fluids at the hospital even with no ketones. I did at 12w have anxiety over how sick I was, went to the hospital and it was all in my head, my test results were all normal. Nice to get checked out though.
Me - I had a growth scan yesterday (I'm carrying really small), and at 37w baby is already guesstimated at 7.8lbs (give or take half a pound). Hyperemesis babies are the best parasites!
Hope everyone has a good night, hopefully the cooler weather helps!

spandau1980 · 07/10/2015 19:35

Got docs again in am ... had a tiny amount of water 1/4 glass and ice all day plus plain baguette (1/2)
Just had toast after a sleep and threw it straight up .
I'm so ill. I don't think I can do any more of this. Iv 4 kids needing me. House is going to pot. A dog and 2 cats and a 8 week old kitten who poops for England. Everything is a shambles.. OH is in tatters. Parents now kkow but mum worried about my general health if I have another. Feel like world against me

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 07/10/2015 19:38

Oh no spandau that's awful :( I really do sympathise , hope Drs are some help?
Melle loving the cold weather now! And totally agree with babies being parasites! DS born at 37wks and was 7lb 12.5oz - I'm amazed how that happened!

spandau1980 · 07/10/2015 19:42

I can't
Get another note .. yiu can't do physical impossibilities

Reebok · 07/10/2015 19:44

No they definitely don't understand Icant. I've been off since 8th September and sick note runs out 23rd just before half term so I will have been off for 6 and a half weeks by then. Your head sounds as terrible as mine. In my first hg pregnancy she pushed me back to work at 15 weeks. Get yourself signed off by gp. She cannot sack you if you've been signed off for pregnancy sickness.

Not long to go Mellee. Definitely agree hg babies are parasites. I was generally very small with dd but she was born at 7.15lbs. They take everything they need from us and leave us with nothing.

Sickness hasn't been awful today. Mainly nausea, indigestion and reflux. Hope everyone else is ok.

Reebok · 07/10/2015 19:46

Spandau pls get to the hospital! You sound like you need fluids ASAP!

Reebok · 07/10/2015 20:30

Spoke too soon. Horrendous chuck up twice in a row. Throat and chest burn. Thought I was doing so well but now laying in bed with my bowl. Sorry...feeling very sorry for myself.

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 07/10/2015 20:35

My contract runs out Nov and can just tell it won't be renewed because of this abcenses :(
Agree that hospital sounds like it's needed spandau
Yuck reebok hope it wasn't too acidic with the reflux? They are just horrid.

LucindaE · 07/10/2015 20:40

spandau I so agree with others. Do get to A and E.
Ginger Oh dear, sorry if I sounded alarmist. It isn't a good idea to let yourself get too dehydrated for too long, but by the sound of things with clear urine, you can last till tomorrow. A cold is nasty, the last thing you need.
Reebok Very insensitive of him.
I so agree about Hyperemesis babies being good parasites. That is one of the reasons the mother feels so terrible, they're taking everything.
eallison Melleebacca and others, great advice as ever.
What do people think about removing the smell of bedclothes, clothing etc by hanging it out to air? I loved it, but it may not suit everyone.
Meerka Always lovely to hear from you, even a lightning visit.
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.

Corabell · 07/10/2015 20:52

Hi,

Can I join in? My first pregnancy was horrendous in terms of sickness. My GP prescribed me cyclizine around week 6/7 which rediced my vomiting from about 100 spews to about 2-3. I realise now that he should have checked my urine for ketones and I would probably have benefitted from hospital rehydration. My sickness came back in the third trimester.

I have just this evening peed on a stick and I am pregnant! Does anyone have any advice about preemptive treatment? I definitely know I tried to ride it out too long last time.

I actually remember feeling sick and nauseous before my period was even due last time which isn't the case at the moment and while I am delighted to be pregnant I am terrified that I go through what I did last time, especially when I have a toddler.

eallison88 · 07/10/2015 21:21

corabell congratulations on the pregnancy! You're right to be thinking about preemptive. I'm no expert as have only just finished the marathon of my first pregnancy, so hadn't heard of HG til horribly ill. meerka has loads of info, but from memory, cyclizine is available from the chemist (don't tell them you're pregnant). I would get yourself to gp ASAP, ask for the form for your mat exemption card so you don't end up spending a fortune. Also, be forceful with the gp about preemptive action -were you with the same gp last pregnancy, and is the HG clearly on your medical notes? Research seems to suggest that if you get meds early it can make a real difference to the HG.

Who was it who's sick note expires soon? Was it icant? Get yourself back to the gp and get a new note. Yes, your employer can expect you back if you have no sick note, but if you have a new one then they can't. There is no point forcing yourself back before you're ready, it will only make you worse and you'll end up being off longer! Rest rest and more rest is one of the beSt things for HG.

mellee nearly there! Try to stay patient,I know how horribly frustrating the last few weeks are. Just think. Every extra day of torture, frustration and sickness for you is a other day of nourishing and growing your baby, ready to arrive into the world strong and healthy.
Everyone else, remember another day nearly done!

Corabell · 07/10/2015 21:32

Thank you eallison88. I am at a different practice now but have had regular contact with one gp who as I had PND and I've been trying to get well as I was diagnosed with hashimoto's disease/ hypothyroidism in my post natal period. I've had to fight very hard to get appropriate treatment for those conditions so I'm used to it plus I have talked to my GP about my hyperemesis fears so I hope she will agree to treat me.

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 07/10/2015 21:43

That's true eallison - I never realised cyclzine could be bought OTC! I'll send Oh out to get some.
Welcome cora these lovely ladies have fountains of knowledge!

eallison88 · 07/10/2015 22:43

I hope I'm right in saying you can buy it over the counter!

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 07/10/2015 23:06

I hope so :)

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 08/10/2015 07:19

DS woke at 12am after a night terror. Brought him in bed with me as felt poorly (never do this) 4:50 he finally got back to sleep then was up bright eyed and bushy tailed 6:30. How is this possible?
Me on the other hand constant vomiting from the exhaustion and back ache :(
Hope you've all had a better night than me

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 08/10/2015 07:20

Eugh can't even type properly was meant to be ( never do this )

Reebok · 08/10/2015 07:58

Welcome Corabell. I agree with Eali...get on medication ASAP. I'm on my second hg pregnancy and started on cyclizine the moment I poas. Unfortunately for me it wasn't strong enough and I had to be put on ondansetron after a spell on the hospital.

Icant I know how you feel. Dd kept crying last night. Not sure if it was night terrors or teething. I just kept her in my bed. I have no energy to get up at night. Feeling rubbish this morning...head is pounding, so nauseous. Dreading leaving the house today for the midwife. Just feel like curling up into a ball at the moment.

Gingerlady123 · 08/10/2015 08:21

Welcome corabell.

Reebok- I have my 16 week appointment today as well. Dreading it. Dreading the urine check and dreading that if she tries Doppler she won't find heartbeat as I have an anterior placenta.
I know i would probably feel really poorly if I had dehdryation enough to affect baby but I'm still scared :(
I hope your app goes well for you.
I can't - fingers crossed theirs betters days to Come soon for you
