I never thought I'd reach this stage.
I'm absolutely shitting myself re: labour so thought I'd be happy that it seems to be taking as long as possible. But NOOOOOOO.

I am 40+6 today and I have had enough. Have tried raspberry leaf, OJ, spicy food, walking, bouncing/sitting on ball, nipple stimulation Blush and everything else that's been recommended, and I've not even had a single Braxton Hick. No twinges, nothing. Junior is still squirming up high against my rib cage, despite being 3/5 engaged and in a 'good position' (according to the midwife). It's like he's too comfy in there and doesn't want to come out!

I'm booked for a sweep on Tues- which I was hoping to avoid- and then induction on Friday if that doesn't work (it won't). I can just visualise myself having to spend the whole of next weekend in hospital on a fucking drip before having to have a C-section because the little (not!) bugger still won't come out of his own accord.

I was expecting to have felt something by now! Has anyone else gone into labour with absolutely no prior indication/symptoms? Please give me some hope!!

Ooh pate, it's been so long I had forgotten! Hope you saw some action overnight Flossycat.

I lost a bit of show after my last sweep (Monday) but nothing since. Have my third sweep at 10.30. Have had a v mild period type pain since 5am though - am really hoping that it could be the start!

justabigdisco · 20/08/2015 12:57

I went for my sweep and MW said that I'm 3cm! So definite progress since the last one. Having some discomfort now, but nothing more than that. Hoping that the sweep really gets things going.

Packergator · 20/08/2015 13:12

Afternoon! This is Skeppers but I've had to start a new account thanks to the great hacker scandal...

Still absolutely nothing here. Will be getting a call from the hospital between 9-12 tomorrow for induction. Still no cramps/pain/contractions. Since my sweep on Tues I've had a show but it's been almost 48 hours since the sweep so can say conclusively that it's not worked. I have a dull ache and a weighty feeling low down in my pelvis but nothing that feels like the start of labour.

justabigdisco that's great news! Very jealous of that 2cm.

InTheory · 20/08/2015 15:34

Fantastic news justabigdisco I hope things are happening for you now.

Afternoon skeppers/packergator fingers crossed something happens for you this afternoon.

I am just back from the midwife and she gave me a good sweep. She said either i was about 4cm dialated or my cervix was paper thin. She could feel babies head and my membranes bulging. She booked me in for induction on tues but reckons I will have had baby long before then.

She told me to walk up a big hill when I got home so I'm just back from that and getting a few cramps I think....

justabigdisco · 20/08/2015 15:42

Skeppers - don't despair - that full ache and weighty feeling is all I've had, and it's got me from 1-3cm! You might find when you go in for induction that things have started without you realising.

Theory - 4cm is brilliant! Is this your first? I've been out walking after my sweep today but could only manage 20 mins on the flat.

justabigdisco · 20/08/2015 15:42

dull ache, not full ache

justabigdisco · 20/08/2015 15:42

dull ache, not full ache

InTheory · 20/08/2015 15:47

Yup this is my first. I think it's more likely to be that my cervix was just really thin rather that dialated.

Disco I'm sure any walking at all will help. We shouldn't really be tiring ourselves out anyway, we will need all our energy soon!

Bouncing on my ball now.

justabigdisco · 20/08/2015 15:51

Well either way that's great. It took me several hours of huffing and puffing through full on labour to get to that stage last time (this is my second).

Looking forward to some induction moral support / live birth posting! I'm 40+12 today... Good luck everyone

lindsay982 · 20/08/2015 15:56

Ooh some progress all round then! My second sweep has cleared more show and apparently my cervix is soft and 2cm dilated so progress from Tuesday's sweep. No regular contractions yet but getting tightenings across bump and pelvic floor so fingers crossed that they develop into something more.

Done some baking to keep the visitors happy. Having a quick cuppa then going to go up and down the stairs a few times! Wink x

justabigdisco · 20/08/2015 22:48

How is everyone doing? After a promising start to the day I've had a quiet evening with fewer tightenings than usual! Only one more day before I have to go in for induction..

lindsay982 · 21/08/2015 01:25

I think we have action up here in Scotland! Contractions getting stronger and closer together - now about 6mins apart. Feeling a bit anxious about the drive to hospital - we're about 40mins away and I'm walking my way through the pain right now. But yes! I'm having a baby! Yippee!

Packergator · 21/08/2015 07:27

Well, I'm up bright and breezy to await the call from the hospital. Made the mistake of reading about induced labour last night as I've really no idea what to expect...let's just say that 'ask for an epidural' is going to be my mantra once things kick off. I want NOTHING to do with whatever disaster zone is going on 'down there'...!

And if ONE more person tells me 'don't worry, your body will know what to do', I'll VOMIT. It hasn't known so far, HAS IT!? That's why I'm in this situation! Hmm

(Sorry, feeling a bit anxious and grumpy, can you tell...?)

justabigdisco · 21/08/2015 07:29

Ooh great news Lindsay - sending good luck vibes - let us know how you get on?

Anything for anyone else?

What time are you going in today skeppers?

justabigdisco · 21/08/2015 07:30

X post skeppers/packer!

Iwishicouldflyfarfaraway · 21/08/2015 08:34

Skeppers/packer sorry your sweep didn't work, I was induced with my last baby after my waters broke .

I was given a pessary first after monitoring and told to go and walk to try to help things start moving , I think after 6 hours it hadn't done anything so I was put on the drip ( wasn't allowed another pessary due to infection risk) the drip wasn't too bad but you are hooked up to the monitor so pack a good book- I hadn't expected it to take so long , I think I read the paper 3 times Grin I personally didn't find it too painful , but did quiz the midwife who said some needed stronger pain relief when being on the drip than if they had spontaneously gone into labour.

Hope this helps you feel a little less anxious and fingers crossed it goes quickly and smoothly and tomorrow morning your updating us about your gorgeous new born . Smile

Rosenwyn1985 · 21/08/2015 09:59

Mind if I join? 40+1 today which doesn't sound too bad expect I was early with my first and the stretch I had Wednesday has done nothing! She couldn't reach to do a sweep as my cervix is short. Boo. Looks like induction next week (medical reasons not to leave it too late). Any of you guys had an induction following a spontaneous labour?

Sounds like things are moving Lindsay! Fingers crossed for you!

Best of luck skeppers!

Packergator · 21/08/2015 10:40

Hospital have called: they want me to go in between 12.30 and 1pm. I'm assuming they'll do the pessary and then send me home until it kicks in, but going to take all my stuff in just in case!

justabigdisco · 21/08/2015 11:36

Let us know what they say skeppers. I've had a couple of painful tightenings this morning and plenty of Braxton hicks so hoping this might be it.

Packergator · 21/08/2015 11:55

Well, I think I may have literally just had my first contraction, 1 hour before I'm due to go in for induction! Shock

I've never had one before so I'm not 100% sure, but it was an intense, crampy pain in the right side of my back and around to my bump on the RH side. I immediately felt compelled to stand up and bend over to try and relieve the pain! It made me feel a bit queasy and lasted a couple of minutes but has gone now. Was pretty intense! If that WAS a contraction I'm not looking forward to them getting stronger!! Shock

Still going into hospital to see what they say.

blowinahoolie · 21/08/2015 12:00

Good luck Packergator!! Sounds very reassuring that you're going into labour :)

I think I'll be in limbo for a while yet, see midwife next week. Baby back to back so not as easy to engage in this position. I seem to bake complicated wee things!

blowinahoolie · 21/08/2015 12:01

Hope you're in full blown labour now skeppers since you've not been back on this thread!

Packergator · 21/08/2015 12:04

blowinahoolie it's me, Skeppers! I had to change my name after 'Hackergate' cos the site wouldn't let me log back in! Blush

Spitoon · 21/08/2015 13:30

waves I'm 40 +1 weeks today. Head fully engaged, lots of braxton hicks all week. Had a sweep yesterday morning because I want a home birth (and my midwife is keen to attend so is trying to get me going in the hope it happens when she is on call!) My cervix was soft, effaced and short (apparently good) but only 1cm dilated on external and closed on internal. It hurt to high buggery! Nothing but period-like cramps and light bleeding since...which I was told to expect.
Booked in for another on Monday if nowt happens over the weekend.

Bored as fuck of being pregnant now!!! Going to walk into town now...in the hope that all the hills bounce the little monkey into submission!

justabigdisco · 21/08/2015 13:33
