Anyone else 40wks plus & PISSED OFF?

I never thought I'd reach this stage.
I'm absolutely shitting myself re: labour so thought I'd be happy that it seems to be taking as long as possible. But NOOOOOOO.

I am 40+6 today and I have had enough. Have tried raspberry leaf, OJ, spicy food, walking, bouncing/sitting on ball, nipple stimulation Blush and everything else that's been recommended, and I've not even had a single Braxton Hick. No twinges, nothing. Junior is still squirming up high against my rib cage, despite being 3/5 engaged and in a 'good position' (according to the midwife). It's like he's too comfy in there and doesn't want to come out!

I'm booked for a sweep on Tues- which I was hoping to avoid- and then induction on Friday if that doesn't work (it won't). I can just visualise myself having to spend the whole of next weekend in hospital on a fucking drip before having to have a C-section because the little (not!) bugger still won't come out of his own accord.

I was expecting to have felt something by now! Has anyone else gone into labour with absolutely no prior indication/symptoms? Please give me some hope!!

I might join you on the walking. I've got my 3 year old today and have promised her ice cream so will find somewhere we can have a walk as well!

Skeppers · 18/08/2015 08:53

Today will be my first sweep, which is why I'm shitting it! It'll be the first MW appointment I'm dragging DH to for moral support; he won't be there for the main event but I may need consoling afterwards...MW said she'd also book my induction today for Friday. I'm starting to regret chickening out of the 40wk sweep she offered last week; I wimped out because a) the pain! and b) it was early in the am and I hadn't had a shower yet and didn't want her rummaging in my whiffy fanjo... Blush

Ice cream sounds like a great idea. I'm going out for brunch on the seafront and some very strong, very delicious (it's too late to make any difference now!) coffee...hopefully that might shake junior up a bit and GET HIM OUT!

You are all very lucky if you can manage long walks so heavily pregnant. My hips are killing me and I cannot walk for even at home...good luck! Hope baby makes an appearance!

blowinahoolie · 18/08/2015 09:01

*far

FlossyCat · 18/08/2015 09:07

Hope the sweeps work ladies. Personally find them no worse than a smear Skeppers.
So I am now in hospital for induction, had the pessary last night and nothing happening yet, lots of sitting around waiting. Depending on how well my cervix ripens today it will either be gel or having waters broken tonight.
There's still time for you ladies, and induction is not so bad (yet!), if it's as straightforward as last time I'm Ok with that.
Enjoy your walk, gorgeous sunny day here.

Skeppers · 18/08/2015 10:46

No, blowinahoolie, that's the problem!! I feel fine, like nothing at all is happening! I'm not even waddling! At least hip/back pain would mean that he's at least engaged or on the way to being so...trust me, would rather be where you are now! Grin

OP posts:
blowinahoolie · 18/08/2015 10:49

I have hip pain and baby is not engaged, I'm afraid! He or she is back to back and I've been over due twice in the past, looking that way this time also...I can't walk far to get things moving because of the pain. Glad you're all fit enough to move around though. Hope things happen for you all soon. :)

Skeppers · 18/08/2015 17:02

Ah, bugger blowinahoolie!

Well, I walked about 3 miles (interspersed with coffee/cake breaks) this morning, then had a check up and the dreaded sweep with the MW this afternoon. It was an...odd sensation! I think it was more the unusual, intense pressure rather than actual pain..it confused my brain and I was saying 'ow' even though it didn't really hurt massively, iyswim? The upshot is that my cervix was high and posterior and baby's head had sort of nestled in front of it, but MW had a good rummage and managed to grab it and pull it forward (sorry) so she could do the sweep; turns out baby's head is veeeery low and my cervix is 1cm dilated! So I've progressed further than I thought. She also dislodged my plug in the process.

Now we wait...! Induction booked for Friday am otherwise, although I'm taking solace in the fact that because I am 1cm dilated that should be quicker than I'd expected as I won't need the pessary (hopefully!)

Any news elsewhere?

Skeppers · 18/08/2015 19:49

It's all gone very quiet on here; hopefully there are babies flying out of chuffs all over the shop!

No news here since sweep, very slight show but that's it, if anything the dull, weighty ache I had in my groin/pelvis has gone! Hmm

InTheory · 18/08/2015 20:07

Fingers crossed your sweep begins to have some effect soon skeppers!

I thought I had a few contractions/b hicks last night but they have come to nothing today.

Looking like I will need a sweep too when I go to the midwife on thurs.

Hopefully at least one of us out there is having their baby?

lindsay982 · 18/08/2015 20:53

Unfortunately I've been distracted by visitors rather than labour! Had my first sweep this morning - cervix a wee bit posterior but accessible and mw could touch baby's head. She had a good rummage but I didn't really find it sore - no worse than a smear imo. Sadly nothing has happened since Sad

Skeppers I'm ridiculously envious of your 1cm! Wink no I'm pleased for you. My induction is booked for next Tuesday so I've got a wee bit more time to play with. Next sweep on Thursday.

Skeppers · 18/08/2015 21:54

Ha ha, midwife said she could touch baby's head...I asked if he had hair!? Hmm

Din.

justabigdisco · 19/08/2015 07:39

No news from me either. Sounds like my cervix is like yours skeppers - very posterior but baby's head is right down, I'm also 1cm (but that is less meaningful as it's my second baby).

My 3 year old is off to childminders today (hooray!) so I'm going to have another walk, do some weeding, bounce on my ball and drink the old raspberry tea. My 3rd and final sweep tomorrow then induction on Sat. We might need to be induction buddies! Will be glad of this thread when I'm waiting on the ward!

Whatever happens it's only a few days until we meet our lovely babies!

FlossyCat · 19/08/2015 10:53

No baby here either, induction started mon eve! But you probably don't need to hear that...

Skeppers · 19/08/2015 12:33

Oh, God flossycat, really!?

What will they do? How long can they leave it before forcibly evacuating via the sunroof...!?

OP posts:
InTheory · 19/08/2015 14:46

Flossy that sucks, must really be dragging for you now. I hope something works for you soon. We really need someone's baby to turn up!

Just back from a long walk, why won't this baby just get out? I don't think I can be any more organised. Sad

lindsay982 · 19/08/2015 15:55

Oh flossycat hopefully that bub is out now!

You're quite right blowinahoolie it is lucky to still be able to go walks at this stage. I reckon I've been lucky throughout TBH. I'm good at being pregnant...just not good at this next stage! Hmm

Today I've walked the dog and baked a cake...my excuse being that I will eventually need cake for visitors... Wink Now feeling guilty for sitting with my feet up.

Can't believe none of us have had a baby yet! It's almost comical! Grin

Skeppers · 19/08/2015 16:51

I genuinely think that it's something to do with hormones. I think that whatever is responsible for producing the birth hormones that trigger labour...whatever gland or whatnot, is dysfunctional in me. I never get PMT, mood swings...I've not felt at all hormonal for my entire pregnancy; no crying, nothing. I am generally quite 'male-brained' in my personality and interests and I've never felt clucky or broody. I wonder if women have different levels of hormone production and people like me just have less hormones (including the birth hormone) which could delay triggering birth, or mean that we need a helping hand when the time comes?

Interesting to think about! (Clutches at straws)

OP posts:
justabigdisco · 19/08/2015 17:27

Think you've got too much thinking time on your hands Skeppers!

Skeppers · 19/08/2015 17:33

I dunno, maybe I'll dedicate my life to medical research....? (strokes chin thoughtfully)

OP posts:
lindsay982 · 19/08/2015 21:15

You know skeppers I've been explaining to people that what we're waiting for is My body to release hormones rather than for baby to decide to come out. Don't know why I'm nit-picking, but I'm fed up of comments like 'you're just making this so comfy in there that baby doesn't want to come out' etc etc.

On a positive note, DP has just informed me that in France they calculate your due date as 41wks not 40...so maybe we're all having French babies! Wink

Skeppers · 19/08/2015 22:13

...and I've been continuing to eat (baked) Brie throughout my pregnancy, like they do in France...

Shock IT ALL MAKES SENSE!

Grin

FlossyCat · 19/08/2015 22:14

Still no baby, technically I have failed induction, if I hadn't previously had a successful induction they would be advising c-section. Going to reviewed tomorrow, hoping for another dose of gel. I just think they intervene too soon, really don't want a c-section which is starting to be mentioned :( I also think I have lower doses of hormones Skeppers, my body just takes longer to work out what to do.

lindsay982 · 20/08/2015 08:03

Morning all. Going for second sweep this morning but just been to the loo and passed my show. Icky! But progress right?

Oh Flossycat hopefully by now that bub is out and you are enjoying snuggles.

skeppers I've been on the baked camembert and brie but soooo looking forward to brie, castello blue, parma ham, rare steak, runny yolks!!! Wink

InTheory · 20/08/2015 08:26

Morning lindsay good luck for your sweep this morning, a show is definitely progress! I have my first sweep this afternoon.

I can't wait for pate and brie!

Fingers crossed all our hormones get themselves sorted today...
