I never thought I'd reach this stage.
I'm absolutely shitting myself re: labour so thought I'd be happy that it seems to be taking as long as possible. But NOOOOOOO.

I am 40+6 today and I have had enough. Have tried raspberry leaf, OJ, spicy food, walking, bouncing/sitting on ball, nipple stimulation Blush and everything else that's been recommended, and I've not even had a single Braxton Hick. No twinges, nothing. Junior is still squirming up high against my rib cage, despite being 3/5 engaged and in a 'good position' (according to the midwife). It's like he's too comfy in there and doesn't want to come out!

I'm booked for a sweep on Tues- which I was hoping to avoid- and then induction on Friday if that doesn't work (it won't). I can just visualise myself having to spend the whole of next weekend in hospital on a fucking drip before having to have a C-section because the little (not!) bugger still won't come out of his own accord.

I was expecting to have felt something by now! Has anyone else gone into labour with absolutely no prior indication/symptoms? Please give me some hope!!

Hi Lindsay. Nope, no action here but tonight may be the night - you never know!! No signs but ever hopeful. Wishing good luck to all (and if not tonight then sleep well instead!)

Skeppers · 16/08/2015 23:46

Nowt here either; yet ANOTHER woman from my NCT group who's due date was after mine has 'dropped' this morning, whilst I have nary a twinge. Grr!

lindsay982 · 16/08/2015 23:49

Oh no skeppers! I feel your pain!

Sleep well disco!

Skeppers · 17/08/2015 05:48

Well, got to sleep just after midnight and have been awake since 4am thanks to DH snoring like a concrete mixer! Kind of hoping things don't kick off today- already knackered. He's up for work in about an hour so hopefully I can get in a couple more hours kip then...

Again, couple of hopeful tummy twinges in the night have disappeared and come to nothing! Angry

justabigdisco · 17/08/2015 07:45

'hoping things don't kick off today' - that's a sure fire way to get things started!

I've also woken up to nothing again. Sweep today.

lindsay982 · 17/08/2015 08:05

Yup nothing here either! Seriously fed up with all the 'encouraging' comments from friends and family! Grrr! Angry

lindsay982 · 17/08/2015 08:05

Good luck for your sweep disco. X

Skeppers · 17/08/2015 08:27

Do you know what, lindsay, so am I! I know they mean well, but even distant relatives who I've not crossed paths with for several years are now taking a sudden interest in the most private machinations of my body! If one more person tells me to eat pineapple or curry or drink OJ or raspberry leaf tea or go for a walk...I swear, THERE SHALL BE BLOOD!

blowinahoolie · 17/08/2015 08:41

I have been where you are OP, twice.

I'm 39 weeks tomorrow and suspect I will be like that a third time....

Skeppers · 17/08/2015 08:48

On the plus side everyone, at least we'll have 'well cooked' babies when they emerge; I've seen pictures of friends and acquaintances of mine who've had babies either before or on their due date and the babies look (and God cast me into the deepest depths of hell for saying this Grin) kinda bony and scrawny, whereas one girl I know went 13 days overdue and had the most pudgy, scrummy, fat and cute baby I've seen- and I don't get particularly about newborns, but he was ADORABLE. Smile

InTheory · 17/08/2015 09:15

Morning all! Not even a twinge here either. Had a rant at my family last night and told them to stop bugging me. I think my brothers are expecting live labour updates - they will not be getting this. So far I have had peace all morning from their messages! Smile

I definitely like the idea of a well cooked chunky baby!

Skeppers · 17/08/2015 09:40

I'm putting myself on a strict 'do not disturb' today from family and friends, including all social media, texts, etc. The only person allowed to look at/talk to me is my husband! Grin

OP posts:
lindsay982 · 17/08/2015 10:04

I've been putting a quick post on FB each evening to try to limit the contacts - people seem to have gotten the hint!

Skeppers I love the idea of a cute pudgy newborn...just as long as its head doesn't get any bigger!! Wink And why is it that no-one thinks that we may have researched/tried/be doing all the things that are supposed to help? They just haven't bloody worked!!!!!

Intheory I can't believe even your brothers are on your case! My MIL seemed to be under the impression that she would be getting a blow by blow account of the labour...she will be disappointed! Wink

InTheory · 17/08/2015 12:45

I blame American TV programmes like Friends where their whole family and friend circle know the person is in labour or they are all at the hospital. My Dbros are a wee bit younger than me and just very over excited about becoming uncles. It's nice really Hmm

FlossyCat · 17/08/2015 13:05

I like the idea of 'well cooked' squidgy baby too, DS was 13 days late and he was only average weight. Actually wishing more friends would text/bug me to see how I am, feel like people are not so interested in DS no.2 as its only 19 months ago since I last gave birth...
Hope things get moving for you ladies soon. I have to go to the assessment unit this afternoon, then probably induction tomorrow. Have been told they may just have to break my waters this time to get things going. Just hope this well-cooked babes head will still fit!
Hope you've caught up on sleep Skeppers.

Skeppers · 17/08/2015 13:19

Ah, good old American TV! Master of all misconceptions. That may be why my mum thinks she's going to be able to just pop in and out of the room where I'm giving birth...she's not even a named birthing partner! Think she's got a bit of a shock coming. I want as few people as possible at the birth, basically just the medical staff and DH and that's it! She's been giving me grief about it, so I asked if her mum was present at any of her births...she went very quiet very quickly...Hmm

Hi ladies! 40+2 today and just reading in the garden. Had cramps last night which my dh got excited aboutbut I think they were engagement pains tbh. The fb messages began this morning with an old friend asking 'how are you'- I will let you know if anything occurs!! Feeling v fed up and just want this baby to be ok and in my arms!

lindsay982 · 17/08/2015 19:38

Intheory I totally agree! Why would you have all these people involved? You're getting your bits out for goodness sake! Your DBros will be doting uncles I'm sure but hopefully they've given you peace today.

Skeppers you get caught up on sleep? I feel like I should be banking it. Oh and I may slap the next person who tells me to enjoy it while it lasts coz when the baby comes...

Tomorrow I'll be 41 and have my first sweep at 10 :-(

Good luck tomorrow Flossycat! Thinking that might be me in 7days!

Hi magrat (love a bit of discworld!) the messages just keep on coming! 'How are you' is better than 'have you had the baby yet?!' actually yeah but I just couldn't be bothered telling you! Arg! ????

justabigdisco · 17/08/2015 21:05

Had sweep this afternoon - was pretty uncomfortable but bound to work (thought I). Nothing happening yet.. One more sweep on thurs then induction booked for Saturday, I'll be 14 days over.

holdmyhand123 · 17/08/2015 22:31

I had my third sweep this afternoon. Was a bit uncomfortable and now having period type pains but nothing to suggest labour. I can have another on Thursday then booked for induction Sunday. I am SO FED UP. I can't sleep very well and the children are on holiday so I'm exhausted and they are cross because it's no fun and I'm cross because they are cross.

Sweeps are a heap of crap and clearly don't work.

Skeppers · 17/08/2015 22:52

Well, my mum decided to drop the casual bombshell on the phone today that she had to be induced with ALL FOUR of her pregnancies, so she 'wasn't surprised' that I was so late. May have been useful to have this info before now!

On the plus side, she said she then went on to have very quick labour/deliveries, and we were all 9lb+ babies (as mine will be).

Sorry to hear that your sweep has been fruitless thus far. They can take 48hrs though, right? I'm feeling a bit tender 'down there' today and worried that my sweep tomorrow will be excruciating...does it really hurt? I know that 'uncomfortable' is often medical jargon for 'fucking painful'! For the record, I'm not phased at all by smear tests, etc. Do I really want to know!?? Blush

justabigdisco · 17/08/2015 23:26

Ok skeppers, you got me. It was pretty painful but mainly because my cervix is v v far back and so she struggled to reach. It was the trying to reach which was worse, the actual sweep took a brief moment. Had a bit of bleeding after, and have been having Braxton hicks all evening, but I bet I'll wake up with nothing again! Hope you all get either a baby or a decent nights sleep tonight!

Skeppers · 18/08/2015 07:16

STILL NOTHING. Sweep at 3.30. Going for a long wall this morning so there's still time! There's still time!

Sounds promising, disco!
Did they say what would happen if your sweep didn't work?

OP posts:
Skeppers · 18/08/2015 07:16

LONG WALK. D'oh.

OP posts:
justabigdisco · 18/08/2015 08:18

Nope - another morning of waking up to find that last nights tightenings/pressure have disappeared. Is this your first sweep then Skeppers? That was my second. They said it can take up to 48 hours to work. Got another one booked for Thursday and then induction Saturday.
