16 weeks and started bleeding, what do I do?

I've just been to the toilet and noticed blood. I'm not sure what to do now. My last pregnancy ended in miscarriage at 9 weeks and I rang the early pregnancy unit at the hospital. Do I do the same now I'm 16 weeks?

you go to a&e for anything under 20 weeks

Newyearsunresolutions · 23/03/2015 20:02

Ok so should I ring them in the morning?

Phone the epu but if you're in any doubt go to A&E. Much love

Nomoocluck · 23/03/2015 20:03

Look in your handheld notes. Mine tells you where to ring at various stages of the pregnancy. There may be a maternity assessment unit for direct contact.

NickyEds · 23/03/2015 20:04

Yes. Or go to A&E if you are in any pain. I had a big bleed at 13 weeks with ds, completely freaked out and went to A&E (it was 11 at night). They were able to reassure me and arrange a scan for 9am the next day. Everything was fine. Lots of women have some bleeding but with your history I'd give the EPU a call-I have the numbers on the front of my notes so I'd start there. Hope you're ok.

MishMooshAndMogwai · 23/03/2015 20:04

Contact your midwife if you can and she'll tell you who to ring.
Here I think it would still be the EPU at 16 weeks but it may be the labour ward as early as that in some areas, it was where I had dd (in a different area, here it's 20 weeks for the labour ward)

Good luck, at this stage it may well be absolutely nothing but always best to check Flowers

YerTiz · 23/03/2015 20:04

On your notes did the midwife provide an ooh number?

Flowers are you feeling ok otherwise?

rocketeer · 23/03/2015 20:04

Are you in pain? Is it a lot of blood? I had a miscarriage at 15 weeks and left it until the morning to see anyone but it's entirely up to you and how you feel emotionally and physically

Flugdrachen · 23/03/2015 20:05

Our pregnancy assessment unit (on labour ward) sees women from 16 weeks, before that it's gynae/EPU or A&E out of ours. I would call the assessment unit & ask if they will see you.

HoppityVoosh · 23/03/2015 20:05

Our EPU deals with up to 16 weeks so I'd phone there or Maternity Assessment first. Hope everything is okay, OP.

Newyearsunresolutions · 23/03/2015 20:07

It wasn't much blood but about the same as when the last miscarriage started. I feel a bit crampy but I'm not in loads of pain.

I had a bleed at 19 weeks. I went to triage. It was a cervical polyp, so don't think the worst.

Newyearsunresolutions · 23/03/2015 20:13

I've found a number to call in the morning for the midwife, it says before 20 weeks midwife or Gp or a&e. I can't stop shaking.

I'm 17 weeks tomorrow.

This happened to me at 16 weeks. I went to the doctor first thing and they sent me to A&E. A&E sent me to the Early Pregnancy Unit. I was a nervous wreck like you as I'd also had a previous miscarriage. Ultimately, my little baby (who is now 4) was happily bobbing around when they did the scan. I hope that you will have the same outcome.

westcountrywoman · 23/03/2015 20:20

I know how frightening this is. I had quite big bleeds at 13ish and 16ish weeks, luckily baby was fine.
I called my midwife who sent me to the GP to listen to baby's heartbeat (not sure why she couldn't do it). Hospital wouldn't scan me as no pain and blood loss wasn't major (heavy spotting but not gushing).
The Dr said if you've had a good outcome of a 12 week scan (strong heartbeat, measurements expected as per dates) then there is a 95% chance that the baby will make it. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. X

YerTiz · 23/03/2015 20:21

Sad newyear - is someone with you?

Newyearsunresolutions · 23/03/2015 20:22

Yes my Dp is here. The cramping is getting worse, I'm scared to go to toilet again.

Flowers

I'd go to A&E just to get it dealt with for your own peace of mind. You'll be worrying all night and this might well be nothing. Thinking of you.

Newyearsunresolutions · 23/03/2015 20:54

Will A&E be able to do anything though? Just checked again, the bleeding is still the same.

S2b16 · 23/03/2015 20:57

Get yourself to a&e, hopefully it's nothing serious but I wouldn't take any risks. Probably won't scan you tonight but hopefully they'll scan you in morning, good luck Flowers

Patatas · 23/03/2015 20:59

I would go to a&e for reassurance, you won't be able to settle anyway. Thinking of you Flowers.

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 23/03/2015 21:05

new - I'd go to A&E if you can. Completely understand how panicky this must be. Hopefully all will be well. But, if not, quite understandably, there can be lots of adrenalin. When this happened to me, I basically became a bit tachycardiac and collapsed. I was absolutely fine myself but very glad I was at the hospital as they were able to give me something to stop me shaking and keep me in for observations

NickyEds · 23/03/2015 21:19

A&E might be able to put wheels in motion to get you scanned quicker, they did in my case. If I'd waited and spoken to the mw the next day it would've been longer to get the scan I think. If you're in pain I'd go to A&E.
