16 weeks and started bleeding, what do I do?

I've just been to the toilet and noticed blood. I'm not sure what to do now. My last pregnancy ended in miscarriage at 9 weeks and I rang the early pregnancy unit at the hospital. Do I do the same now I'm 16 weeks?

Yep, A & E or GP, depending on how much blood, how worried you are & how ur NHS trust works...I struggle to get MW appointments so sometimes have to see GP for check-ups but am currently 39 weeks with first baby. Miscarried first pregnancy last Jan 2014 though at 7 weeks and had to get early scan booked by GP due to little bit bleeding - was missed / delayed miscarriage.

Thanks for all your messages.

I'm still having a lot of pain and cramping despite the bleeding stopping.

Hi newyearsresolytion, glad to hear bleeding stopped. Had a big bleed 3 weeks ago myself (20+3), pretty much stopped next day but started again day after (much lighter though). Had spotting, light bleeding and cramps since. Doctors treating as low placenta but not 100% what's causing it. Baby seems to be fine though, and cervix still closed, they said some women are just bleeders! I do find it gets a little better when I rest so doing as little as possible, using holidays/overtime to cut hours at work etc - might be worth taking it easy for a while yourself x

Haven't been in work all week, the pain is still really bad. I went for my consultant appointment today but he didn't seem bothered about it. It hurts constantly and then I get the odd sharp stabbing pain. Is this normal? I've been resting as much as possible.

Hopefully yours will settle down soon too Tulip.

Did the consultant say what he thought was causing the pain?

I remember having ligament/stretching pains as my bump got bigger, and braxton hicks, but both were more uncomfortable than painful iyswim, and not constant.

New year the sharp stabbing pain sounds like ligament pain. It can knock you back sometimes! I am glad you are having time off and resting
