BFP after IVF / ICSI - Chat/ support?

Verkey81 · 19/02/2015 02:17

Hi, I've just got my BFP following an ICSI cycle and was (still am) on some threads over on infertility. I'm feeling a bit lost for support and chat as I read someone write that it is depressing to see those with BFP chatting and I don't want to put other people off using the threads if you know what I mean! Whilst it's still early days for me so don't want to count my chickens by being on the 'pregnancy' threads, but I found the others invaluable for support!

Anyone else been through IVF /ICSI and in the early ish stages of pregnancy want to come on the journey with me! Anyone who got their BFP and was chatting on the other threads? It's my first pregnancy so no idea if I would be this scared if I hadn't had to endure all this, but I feel going through IVF has made me much more paranoid and scared than I ever thought I would be! Not to mention the thought that if I lose this baby, that might be our last chance as no idea how we would afford another cycle! Are these fears rational!?

I'm coming up for 5 weeks pregnant as first test was last Friday (13th!) and have the next test to do this Friday for the clinic to confirm its still positive, then I guess onto the scan.

Hi all, how we doing? LittleTalks - I haven't been brave enough to test again just in case I didn't like the outcome.

Well I can recommend going away for a few days, this week has flown by, can't believe I'll be 7 weeks tomorrow! And some of the anxiety has gone (well, maybe a little) and I might actually be looking forward to my scan. New symptoms this week are overwhelming tiredness and having to wee all the time.
Hope you're all doing ok x

minibmw2010 · 02/03/2015 09:16

Hello all. Even though I have a scan with the EPU for tomorrow and I think I'd be considered 5.5/6 weeks I stupidly did a clearblue this morning and it still says Pregnant 2-3 so hasn't moved on at all since last week? Any thoughts?

ToesAndFingersCrossed · 02/03/2015 14:36

mini I have stupidly done this too. I have been stuck on 2-3 weeks for the last, 2 weeks (7 week scan is on Friday so I am 6w2d) and from talking to a bunch of people this is completely normal. While the clearblue is apparently very good at telling you if you're pregnant, the accuracy for the week numbers is terrible and most midwives wish they didn't exist because they just cause people to worry!

I'm still terrified about the little embie and I think I will be till Friday (which is AGES away). Inlaws are coming to stay on Thursday so at least I'll be kept super busy this week tidying the house for them staying.

minibmw2010 · 02/03/2015 15:56

Thank you toesandfingerscrossed, that has helped put me at ease a little. It came up with Pregnant really quickly, but seemed to take ages with the 2-3. I guess I'll know more tomorrow. My 7 week scan is on the 10th March so I'm guessing that'd put me at 6 weeks tomorrow.

minibmw2010 · 02/03/2015 15:57

PS: Good luck for Friday.

LittleTalks · 02/03/2015 16:02

Oh my goodness, I'm so pleased I'm not the only one this had happened to mini and toes. I spent the morning sobbing because my CB digi this morning still said 2-3 (and today I'm 6+3). I had a bit more spotting over the weekend and combined with this mornings test was convinced it was all over.

mini let us know how you get on tomorrow. I'll be thinking of you.

And welcome jellie and huge congrats. I've been lurking on some other threads and had read your story - you had 2 transferred right? Exciting times ahead.

Verkey and ruffio do you have scans coming up too?

ToesAndFingersCrossed · 02/03/2015 16:18

Clearly we need to set up some sort of national campaign to reassure IVF grads that clearblue digi tests are our to get us and the dates on them should be ignored at all costs!

rufio96 · 02/03/2015 22:49

Oh my, clearblue best avoided!
Good luck tomorrow mini. And good luck toes for Friday.
My scan is Monday, a whole week away. Planning a meal out with close friends afterwards as either a celebration of another milestone or a large vodka for me!
Currently catching up on call the midwife and sobbing my eyes out!

Jelliebabe2 · 03/03/2015 05:07

Little and mini - ui read a warning thread about cb tests recently. Apparently they are only accurate until your hcg goes over a certain level (5-6weeks). Then the number can go down which would be scary!

Little - yes I had 2 put back! Can't wait until 1st scan but that's not till the 13th which is a lifetime away....

Mini - good luck for today!

ToesAndFingersCrossed · 03/03/2015 10:04

I did another digi test today (because I had bought a pack of two and it was the only one I had) and it still said 2-3 weeks, but came up as pregnant in few seconds (which is the only thing I promised myself I'd look at!). I did it because I had some really weird pains in my abdomen last night and needed something between now and Friday to keep me going. So yay for still being pregnant, and ignoring that it only says 2-3 weeks.

Hopefully I will remain confident for at least 24 hours, and I've invited a friend over for dinner on Wednesday so the time should fly by!

minibmw2010 · 03/03/2015 10:28

Had scan. Still uncertain really. She said the sac has doubled in size (which is v positive), thinks she can see the start of the foetal pole but no heartbeat yet. Said it may just be on the cusp of too early, but I have another scan with them next Tuesday. I did a Digi test this morning which had moved on to 3+ so that's good, but still unknown for now ?? This is really getting me down (sorry for bringing the mood down) x

minibmw2010 · 03/03/2015 10:29

Toesandfingers, concentrate on the fact the pregnant came up so quickly and ignore the numbers x

LittleTalks · 03/03/2015 13:04

Oh mini that's really tough. I'm so sorry they haven't been able to give you any solid answers. The uncertainty is so stressful. Try and keep hold of the positives and remeber that 6w can be too early to see a HB. Have you got anything to take your mind off things until next Tues?

ToesAndFingersCrossed · 03/03/2015 14:19

Hey mini that all seems really positive. Our clinic said they didn't do scans until 7 weeks because of the uncertainty of seeing a heartbeat any earlier, so I think Tuesday will be the reassuring day for you :)

Especially since everything else looks so good, doubled in size and a foetal pole is very encouraging!

Verkey81 · 03/03/2015 16:25

Sorry I've not been about, just not had the energy to sit down and type, been soo shattered it's unbelievable! Welcome Jellie and congratulations! Do you know your due date yet? mini have you worked yours out yet? Did you try that due date calculator I put the link on for?

I did not know all this about the clearblue ladies! That's craziness and I'm sure they do it just to scare us :(

AFM, I'm coming up for 7 weeks on Thursday and have my first scan this Friday afternoon, actually cannot wait! Same day as you again Toes :) I saw you have your scan the following Monday 9th Rufio, Mini the Tuesday 10th and Jellie Friday 13th? (my initial test day was Friday 13th of Feb - so a lucky date :) ) anyone else got theirs booked? How exciting - does anyone know what happens? Will we get photos? I'm so scared though as my clinic said my scan is "to see if the pregnancy is viable"... how positive! As I was typing this, I'm reading back through and just saw you had a scan already Mini, how come you had one so early? Don't worry about those digi's - ignore them, the scan showed a sac, I'm sure it would be too early to see a heartbeat which is why we normally have to wait until around 7 weeks, like toes said, that's what I was told anyway :) I think it looks good from what they said :)

Keeping everything crossed for you mini x

minibmw2010 · 03/03/2015 19:06

Thank you all. Realistically from everything I've read it's a little early to see (even by a few days) but when the lady went all quiet and said 'ideally I'd like to see more by now however' my tummy sank. Online calculators put me at 6+1 so it's a bit early I guess. Will try and keep positive ??

Verkey81 · 04/03/2015 09:52

Ignore those people who say silly things like that! Why on earth would she say that when the chances of seeing a heartbeat at your stage are so slim!!! Makes me sooo angry, even if that was right, she shouldn't have said that but that's just ridiculous when its too early to see a heartbeat - as an example, I just found this online when I goggled it (just to check what I had been told and what my apps are telling me is right!) "You may be able to hear and see your baby's heart beat for the first time when you're about 8 weeks pregnant if you have an early ultrasound exam. (The baby's heart starts to beat at around 6 weeks.) "

That says 8 weeks and says your baby's heart only started beating yesterday!

Sorry I've just ranted but I'm so sorry that someone has made you so upset for no reason. As if we don't panic enough!

minibmw2010 · 04/03/2015 11:23

I know, I think she felt bad afterwards as she's been great so far and is a lovely lady but I guess at times they feel they can't give false hope? Anyway I've decided I will wait until next week and as far as I'm concerned until I know better then I'm pregnant ???? xx

rufio96 · 04/03/2015 17:15

Anyone had any midwife contact or appointment? I've had a couple of voicemails, apparently I've been assigned a midwife who should be contacting me the weekend for an appointment. All a bit exciting, almost feel like a pregnant women!!

Verkey81 · 04/03/2015 23:21

How exciting! Not yet for me, think u need my scan first which is on Friday!
